Hello all. Arrived Calgary last weekend and settling in well! Will find time to give landing gist soon.
Landed seniors, please I need your thoughts and information on buying a car. My budget is CAD 4 - 5k for all expenses to be incurred.
1. Someone recommended buying from Regal Auctions, who conduct auctions every Saturday and Wednesdays. Are there any experiences using them? pros and cons? I have also checked out kijiji. Will be glad for thoughts on this.
2. Please can you provide a breakdown of all expenses to be incurred when purchasing a car? E.g. sales tax, registrations, and car parts (e.g. winter tires - how much and when it should be done)
Thanks in advance. |

If you are in Abuja or know someone there, take your application / request letter to FRSC HQ in Wuse Zone 3. A friend submitted for me and he was able to collect within a week. Its free. Saintp: Oh! My PM is not working, I can't remember the email and password for this account. However, @koonlay5 gave it to me. I contacted him and he wants 20k, is it what it is? |

Hey guys, Looking to move to Calgary with my family this August. Have a few questions
(1) Do I need to obtain the International Drivers Permit from Nigeria before travelling? Someone advised me it should help. Or is the FRSC letter adequate for processing the Canadian license - Alberta.
(2) I read about a rule / law that a child(ren) of opposite sex older than 5 years should not share rooms...or something like that. My kids are 5.5 and 2.5 years old. What is the rule / law and implications for us? Can the kids share rooms? Do we need to rent a 3 bedroom to cater for these rule / law?
(3) Whats with the ranking of elementary and secondary school rankings. Do we have to look for those ranked like 7 and above? Or it does not really matter much in terms of e.g. quality of teaching, background of children as per neighborhood, etc?
Thanks in advance! |

Hello guys,
In the general LOE for eAPR, do we have to provide details such as self introduction, motivation for immigration, what we want to do there, plans to settle, who we know, etc?
This was recommended by someone I spoke to recently, who is based in Canada and does immigration consulting. I've not read about this here or elsewhere so thought I should ask. |

Hey guys,
I'm filling the Statutory Questions section of the eAPR. When I select yes for previous visa refusal, I get a drop down form to provide details.
1. With this, my understanding is that I do not have to explain again in my general LOE and attach Schedule A upfront. Is this in order?
2. Question to those who have completed this section in the past and answered yes: Was there such a drop down to provide details, or is this new from CIC?
..just wondering why I read that may be good to submit schedule A upfront, if you can provide the details for previous visa refusal in the eAPR form already. |

Good you have sorted it out. I have found the google search approach below quite helpful too. TYPE ON GOOGLE SEARCH BAR: site: www.nairaland.com/3999848/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled [word, phrase or search query]It lists out all pages containing the query. You can then open each as required. einsteino: please how do we query the thread ? the search bar queries the entire nairaland, and i would love to query this thread only. |

Thanks for clarifying. yimiton: It was in the general LOE placeholder. My POF gist was a lot with lots of attached documebts. I believe its OK to add it to the POF placeholder if it's just a page or 2. |

yimiton: I simply went to my pension administrators (IBTC) with a letter requesting that they should prepare a letter addressed to CIC to the effect that I will have access to 25% of my pension within 4 months of resignation. I also asked for 6 months statement of account, which I scanned and added to my other proof of funds. I did an LOE in a tabular form at the end to show the different amounts. Was the LOE for your funds in the Proof of Funds placeholder or general LOE placeholder? |

mzjennypher: @deebay is it compulsory to add parent statement of account? can just receipt showing transfer suffice? (giftdeed) It is not compulsory. transfer receipt / evidence should suffice. I intend to include only evidence of transfer (teller, cheque, transfer note, etc) and include the transfer details it in the deed. |

Lol. Thanks Abby, MummyJayGirls and Sugaro. Abby2017: Your registry date is your wedding date as far as CIC is concerned. "Legally acceptable in your home country" is a key requirement unless your nikkah certificate is in conformity with form E.
I believe you would be more relaxed to make a choice if you had like 5 types of wedding like some people/tribe or you "closed road" from tuesday to sunday and registry happened in one of those days (Biko na joke I dey o).
I don't think you need LOE though but it all depends on you. |

Hello everyone. I have a marriage date issue which I am trying not to complicate but also ensure no ambiguity, so will be glad for your input.
Did religious marriage (nikah) and reception in May, few years back. There was a local newspaper notification on this (me sef tire as I see am!). I also had a Facebook events notification for friends. We were given a marriage certificate issued by an islamic organisation.
Then did marriage registry wedding in June same year. Issued Wedding Registry certificate. Spouse submitted this to IQAS for change of name proof.
1. Which date should I use in my application? 2. I am thinking of writing a LOE to explain the date chosen, is it necessary?
Thanks in advance |

Hey guys. I am booked for medicals tomorrow morning. However, I am developing fever symptoms (too much stress this past week) and should take medication. Will this affect the results? Should I still go ahead or should I postpone? Tight schedules mean I may not be available for another 2 weeks. Thanks in advance. |

ltee: Hello to my seniors and everyone on the group.
I am currently awaiting Copr and I need advise on landing especially getting a job.
I am a quantity surveyor usually known as construction estimator in Canada, about 8years work experience on various projects and PMP certified.
Please what are my chances of getting a job? Where do you propose I can get good construction jobs? I would also like to network with people in this field and perhaps join a whatsapp group for people landing.
Secondly, my wife is a dentist she also needs a mentor in her field too.
Thank you as you drop in you precious advise. Trust your relocation plans are going well. I found this 'construction cost consultant' vacancy on the job bank and thought of you. For the role, the employer seems to want Indigenous peoples, Newcomers to Canada, Persons with disabilities, Veterans. https: //www.jobbank.gc.ca/jobsearch/jobposting/24081905 It may be of interest to you. |

Aig84: Good morning fam, I encountered a little challenge during certificate evaluation with IQAS, a rep mailed me to state that my certificate wasn't clear (a part of it which shows the grade and date seems to be fading because of the material used for that part). I was asked to scan and send a clearer copy to the rep which I did, I tried to make it clearer by dimming the lights while scanning, I'm yet to get a response from them and the 30 business days has since elapsed. Any advice on what next to do? I've started the process of requesting for a new certificate from my alma mater tho. Seniors please help out here Give them a call ASAP to confirm status of your application. I am sure the scan was OK. If it wasn't, they probably would have requested for another. Had to fax that of my spouse thrice. |

Hi all,
In reviewing your PR application, is it expected that if your have up to 10 years working experience, you should have reasonable level of savings to migrate and not rely on gift deed for POF for family of 4. Can you be rejected because of this?
I am asking because myself and spouse have personal and business assets above the required funds which we are trying to sell. I particularly have a land I have been trying to sell for the past 4 months as settlement funds, but it will still take time to dispose of.
However, I can be gifted the required funds by my family. Can I go ahead with the gift.
Thanks in advance |

bigfido: Thank you very much. I understand this very well that you can only use up 25% of your RSA. I only became worried when she expressly said "no, you can't use it for pof".. As at when they switched from FSWP to express entry, a lot of Nigerians have been writing them telling them we can use 25% even thou no one asked them.. (Busy body). Now they are fully aware of the 25% ish. I just checked oanda this morning and I had a sudden heart attack. I have a family of 4 , I needed 5.7m as at yesterday, today, it is 6.7m. I don't even know what to say.. O boy, same here. This exchange rate thing no funny. Checking on XE.com makes matters worse! |

yimiton: Guys, I just checked my EE profile and saw a notification of maintenance on the site scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, 2nd August and while looking around to ensure that everything is intact in my profile, I noticed that my status was on 'updated'. and not submitted
I viewed my submitted application just to ensure that I don't have anything not transmitted and re-signed my online signature. However, the status is still on 'updated' and more worrisome, I also saw a notification that says 'Continue my profile / application, not yet submitted' Is this normal? I'm getting really worried, being that there might be a draw tomorrow. What is your CRS? |
