Bluezy13:
The Elders are the wise counsel who advise god and deliberate on heavenly and earthly matters of utmost importance.
You know, just like the elders in movies who surround the king/emperor.

If they do not advise god, God will make a mistake and his rulership will be messed up.

Hehehe...look at how I am able to concoct a story that fits into the picture. I should start a church... undecided or better still, my own religion.
After all, everything is a fairytale.

You're extremely stupid. More stupid than you've ever been. More idiotic and moronic than you're actually funny, lmao!

Look! Just look at your miserable self in a mirror. What do you see? A clown? Don't you see a clown? A clown, right? No actually. You are not a clown. You are a NOT!

I am die hard Bendel insurance fan and I started watching Bendel insurance at Ogbe stadium whe I was like 6 years old with my uncle.
I still watch them till now and do video some scenes of the matches and post on my telegram page on match days.
Despite the free gate fee, attendance is still very low .
Attendance was high when Bendel insurance played continental matches and it was due to massive mobilisation by the state Government.

Oh, wow.

Thanks for the reply.

Seen your post on BI, not once or even twice. You seem to be a die-hard Bendel Insurance fan.

I used to ask though, who still goes to the stadium to watch the Nigerian Football League. Do people go out in record numbers to watch NPFL teams play?

Permit me to ask, do you watch them as they play live in the stadium on a Saturday or on a Sunday (this is likely a football club based in Benin city)? Can you give a rough estimate of stadium attendance. How much would you say is the gate fee for each BI match.

For now, its the sch that pays them(my sis and co) per course they lecture. I know about sch administration more than u. My Dad was a Principal staff in a federal poly back in the days. I grew up in sch area. So no be mouth talk. I know what I'm saying

@ bolded: grin grin grin grin grin grin grin cheesy cheesy wink

You don't sound like someone who knows administration of schools more than I do because you just said - put in a different context - a man can vote on election day and then when he's done voting, all the details that shows that he is an eligible voter can now be taken into consideration during accreditation. Accreditation is what gives you the license to teach. If you have scaled that stage, then you might as well hire two lecturers for a hundred man's work or hire none at all. Would hiring lecturers be necessary if you have already been accredited? Would accreditation carry any weight if the caliber of your teachers are not involved? Does it make sense?

Now, I beg your pardon because I didn't bother to ask you about the type of school your sister teaches, but big federal universities might hire contract staff because they have means of generating additional revenue, and mind you, they often do, because the government would not give a go-ahead to hire. If she was hired by my university, OAU, for instance, then as a federal university, they would be able to pay her salaries, but they are not giving her conditions of employment - wait first one of our dept is not accredited; when it is, we would hire you.

Totally different scenarios.

Even if it is not a big uni or Poly, they might still be able to hire and pay your salary independent of the government's intervention, but smaller institutions rarely do. Even government secondary schools can, but despite having a biting shortage of teachers, do they?

In fact, the default assumption one makes when they try to work with any government institutions is that the government is responsible for salaries until those at the management position say otherwise. So I am very on point.

Though, your concerns are very valid, your dad wants what is best for you. If it is one of the new Fedpoly they are indeed in need of Academic staff. However, unlike before federal tertiary institutions nowadays don't have the sole autonomy to employ their manpower, they have to apply through the federal ministry of education, Office of the Head of service of the federation, office of the accountant general of the federation, national board for technical education i.e. in the case of polytechnic, while National University commission in the case of Universities. Employment in Nigeria this days is all about taking risk especially if you don't have direct political connection or some body working in strategic establishment like NUC, TETFUND, Federal Ministry of Education etc. If the money is not that much, you can take the risk, but put it behind your mind that whether you get the job or not, it is the will of God.

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate Shehu.

Now let me talk about what you said.

I don't think there was every a time federal institutions enjoy such autonomy. You only hire manpower for your business. Even the registrar, the VC and lecturers are employees like any other person. It's just that some are in a position to overseer the place. They have to apply. Always.

Calculated risk always pay off, not this one. Do you think accreditation comes first before hiring? Would you get a license to start, say, a secondary school if you don't have somethings put in place like teachers, lab, etc?
Education / Re: Lecturing Connections: Nairalanders, Am I About To Be Scammed by Stupidanimal: 8:30pm On Jan 29

Yeah its true. If the Department is a new one , they will have to accredit first b4 taking lecturers on permanent employment. U will start as a adhoc staff first. My sis is presently working in a new dept in a university as an adhoc staff. Permanency comes much later after accreditation

"New" as you put it doesn't mean not accredited. Would the government give a go-ahead for federal institutions owned by them to hire members of staff in an unaccredited department? I think that is the state of your response. If your response is no, then your appointment as a make-shift lecturer or adhoc as you call it carries no weight since it didn't come from them? Who is your sister working for, the school or the government? By working for, I mean who bankrolls her? If the school pays her salary, then that is very unfeasible especially in federal schools - the Polytechnic in question is a federal Poly.

I still have to ask you though: accredit first, before taking lecturers? Are you sure of what you're saying? That's quite strange.

What then do they require during the accreditation process?

I think one of them is the crop of your lecturers, their qualifications and experience. Can you successfully pass the accreditation exercise without providing these (proving that you are up to the task)?

Suppose they hire you as an adhoc staff and then you begin working, who would pay you? The government?

I posted this in the education thread but visibility has been poor, please let me hear your input.

A man asked my dad to bring an undisclosed amount of money for a lecturing connections in one of the Federal Polytechnics in the South - I would not disclose the school.

For context, I went with my father to the Polytechnic that day and the man is, as perceived, one of the big shots in the school. Maybe the Dean or something - I don't know the hierarchy strata of Polytechnics

But the problem is, the man made it clear to us that certain courses would have to be accredited first. and then when the courses have been successfully accredited, they would push my name for final screening and final employment. He made it clear though that the final decision is not his.

I didn't object there, but later having thought about it, I saw all shades of wrong in the man's statement and would appreciate your input. I used to think that you first get your teachers ready, on ground, in addition to the other demands you might be required to meet in the accreditation process. I don't think it is accreditation first then lecturers, it should be lecturers and other things in the accreditation process. After all, what is an accreditation? Is it not an exercise to verify that you are up to the task and can deliver academically? Or am I wrong?

I have not told my father that I think he's getting scammed and should count me out. I made it clear to him several times that employees in government institutions do not hire or even have the ability, but he has rebuffed me several times claiming that a university registrar (or an equivalent in a Polytechnic) does, or at least forwards the names for final employment. You don't get job connecting with people at employee level especially in government institutions. If they have the connect or are able to do it themselves, then they themselves wouldn't be working there, or am I wrong? I would appreciate your input.

Nigerian politicians are probably the dumbest creatures. The actions of the Rivers state assembly men had no strategic value. 27 is greater than 4. More importantly, it's a veto proof majority. This means they could impose their collective agenda regardless of the governor's opinion.

Defecting is simply a symbolic gesture that accomplishes nothing that they couldn't do in their current party. If they did want to defect, it could wait until the next election. The only reason for the theatrical mass defection is to say APC controls one more houses of assembly.

You are quite intelligent and I have to honestly admit too that it was an unforced error. These politicians probably do not understand the significance of numbers especially in a democratic settings. I am going to ask you two quick questions.

Is defection punishable by the constitution or the new electoral act because I don't understand why their seats can be declared vacant because they defected? Please educate me because I am not privvy to this.

Also, if the speaker loyal to the governor was removed or whatever they call it before they defected, could the courts validly reinstate him? Can it be said that the Assembly satisfied quorum with just four members?

I don't know if u are in the medical field or not, it's very easy to get a job in Nigeria if u have a PhD in any of the pre clinical courses, as I said before I got a good job after 13years post graduation, just because I did not rest as I was looking for a job I was doing business on the side, and going to school, though I had a sponsor so I was augmenting. Now my salary is almost 10 times a normal BSc. Salary. I have 2 adjunct lecturer position with 2 different schools and a full time supervisor role for a company,

from no job to 3 jobs. My 1 year salary wiped out the tears of the last 13 years. I say it again if u have a sponsor continue schooling, sorry to say your Dad will not be around forever grab what u can grab now or later you may regret it. This is what I always tell my self to give me motivation, when God's favour comes and I get a job wouldn't it be better I get a PhD job than a BSc. Job.

Thank you. You talk of a PhD job as though there are jobs that require a PhD for a start, or jobs that would only take PhD holders.

Sure, there are not many PhD holders because it takes a lot of time to be one, but I can tell you for free that a PhD holder is not much better off in the Nigerian labour market than a B.Sc holder. Of course, save in the field of academia which is not up for dispute.

Would I want to spend another 5 years of my life fighting it off to obtain this PhD certification that is only useful in higher institutions? NO! Thank God for your life.Thank God! God has been merciful to you, but I am very sure you didn't get the supervisor role because you had a PhD or even an Msc.

If I had that supervisor role and I was getting paid let's say 120k, maybe I wouldn't be here discussing with you.

Oga, them dey apply dey get am, in federal Uni government long leg is for non academic positions. For lecturing long leg is like 30percent of employment, especially now that people have japa finish there are lots of vacancies.

The scope to get lecturing job is 1. Get masters look for private uni to be gaining experience while doing PhD with publications, once u can finish your PhD. You can apply to federal uni.

Look for a PhD. Supervisor that is a real authority like an old prof. their recommendation hold water and most times when any uni need staff in a particular area, they do notify these profs to send/ recommend candidate for them, you can be lucky.

Don't wait for vacancies, go to the department you wish to apply in any Uni, drop Cv. That is if u have a good result, speak to the HOD very important, if u do well, if there is any vacancies you will be notified.

Lastly not to be under estimated, do research for your tribes person that is a prof, if you have a good result beg am with your dialect, before you do like 5, one will recommend u.

Note don't be too desperate all else u no go know when you join cult, God's time is the best, I stayed home doing small business b4 I got a good job after 13years post graduation but when God's time came it came big.

There are two ways to get a government job -- which is, man-know-man and by merit.

I have reiterated my position based on merit, not man-know-man or connections. Now, if I get you correctly, you are talking based on long leg or man-know-man. Not necessarily that you have worked as a lecturer but do you have acquaintances who are working as lecturers?

I had a 2:2 though, but I want to ask you, did mortal man come to this life only to spend a very large part of it pursuing western education? Pursuing a PhD would take you another 5 or 6 years.

The number of years spent in school is as follows:
6--3--3--4--1.5(18 months)--5

If you take 23 years from a man's life, you know how far gone that would be?

First, a Master’s isn’t to the end that you get a lecturing job. It just helps tailor your academic interest, which may in turn be very helpful in a professional evironment. But of course, you need a Master’s degree to get a lecturing job.

The most I’ve seen of becoming an academic staff is through man-know-man and/or finishing top of the class. Albeit the department’s interest in bringing you on bird base on either or both of those two factors, a formal application will be required.

My opinion (subject to correction based on others’ experiences).

Do people apply for lecturing jobs?

Some years ago while I was still serving in Taraba state, I went to the state teaching board to plead with them for employment into any of their secondary schools. They told me their hands are tied, that there is nothing they could do to help, and that I would have to wait for an opening by the state government for teachers. It seems to me that the same is applicable in all federal and state government jobs. Jobs are not gotten by application.

The institution (whether a secondary sch, a polytechnic or a university) first notifies the federal or state government of a shortage in available manpower, then the government gives them a go-ahead to hire (which is usually published in newspapers under the guise of transparency) and it doesn't happen often. That is how it is done, or is it done differently?

My father has been disturbing me to enroll for masters degree, even promising me heaven and earth that, he would without fail, get me a lecturing job. We have been on it since 2017. This is not a thread for that and I don't want response to that end.

My question is, how do people get a lecturing job. Say I want a Federal University, then how would I go about it? The approach is going to be a bit different for state instituions but I guess that both of these would require a job Opening by the institution in one or more newspapers and a qualifying exam.

Would it be easier in Kebbi state university if my father is friends with let's say kebbi state governor?

Another question is, do you think it is worth the stress and haggle pursing a masters degree in hope of a lecturing job? Because, obviously, a masters is only useful to that end. Put differently, how hard is getting the job with or without connections. Do you think if one has the money then getting a federal job isn't going to be difficult

Reset the router and use 0000 or 1234, if that doesn't work. You need to connect the router to a computer it will automatically install the software with that you can reset everything necessary. Default user name and password is normally admin for both

The problem is, there is no reset button. Only the WPS button and a little hole I used to poke with a broom if I need to connect.

The router is connected to the computer as I type, but it doesn't reset - nothing. What I have is the upgraded interface with some weird russian interface.
