Kanye West Hits Koko Concert in London Right After Performing With Jay-Z at VMAs

So D'Banj and Don Jazzy are currently the most blessed Nigerians alive (for tonight at least) as Kanye West showed up at the Koko Concert in London tonight. Kanye West was on stage performing Otis with Jay-Z at the MTV Video Music Awards last night and he magically showed up in the same attire across the pond at the Hammersmith Apollo to show his Nigerian signings some love.

Motunrayo Ogbara – 26 Yr Old Former Access Bank Employee Commits Suicide

Na wa o. This Naija sef so many absurd things have been going on lately.

Pretty 26yr old Motunrayo Ogbara’s corpse was discovered hanging from the ceiling of her sister’s residence on Allen Avenue on Monday July 18, 2011.

They say she committed suicide because her lover jilted her, but her family members have disputed this.

Late Motunrayo had an operation last year that affected her uterus (Cyst), her womb was removed, so that contributed to her depression, which she complained a lot about and even attempted to kill herself last year but was rescued. Guess she succeeded this time around. So sad!

She finished from Queens College in 2001, was a graduate of Economics, University of Lagos and an ex-employee of Access Bank. She was buried yesterday Tuesday 19th of July atVaults and Garden Cemetery, Ikoyi. May her soul rest in peace…amen.

Another Nigerian, Tinie Tempah Wins BET Best International Act: UK Award

Tinie Tempah aka Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu has also won the BET Award for Best International Act in the UK alongside his Nigerian brothers Tuface & D’Banj. He was nominated alongside VV Brown, Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and some more Nigerians Laura Izibor &  Skepta (aka Joseph Junior Adenuga). Tinchy Stryder is also of Ghanaian descent. I guess Africa is really taking over the world huh?

Tuface Idibia & D'Banj win BET Best International Act: Africa Award

Tuface Idibia & D’Banj have both jointly won the BET Best International Act in Africa Award. Both of these artists are the only ones who have been featured in the BET Welcome to America series so far and I could sense a sort of setup. I guess BET will keep teasing Africa to increase our interest till they plunge into the continent. I’ve never heard of two nominees winning a BET award and it was the only occurence of its type at this years show. It seems there’s more to this story and I’d wanna find out what really went down.

Now this video should put aaall doubts about the Mohits/G.O.O.D Music deal to rest. We have Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Don Jazzy & D’Banj in one room making history, and Kanye is definitely feeling the songs playing towards the end.

After two listens I pretty much didn’t disagree with myself too much on the quality of each of the 16 tracks on this masterpiece. The album starts out with the perfect tone and ends off the right way. Wizkid should be applauded for this debut as he makes it look so easy. His vocal maneuvers are like breathing for him and its easy to tell this dude is truly talented.

ITS OFFICIAL! D’Banj & Don Jazzy (Mohits) sign to Kanye’s GOOD Music label!

So it’s finally official. Nigeria’s D’Banj and Don Jazzy are signed to Kanye West’s record label GOOD Music. D’Banj made the announcement today on Twitter. It’s also his birthday, so we say a BIG “Happy Birthday” and “Congratulations” on this historic feat for Nigeria. LOL Why is it historic? Becaaauusse…no major Nigerian artist has been signed to a major US record label yet, but we know this is the beginning and more of this will start happening. Is this an entire label signing for Mohits? Well it doesn’t look like it is but we know the other artists will definitely benefit from this. Afterall Kanye was on Rocafella for a few years even after he started GOOD Music with Common and John Legend. So I assume Mohits will continue to operate in Nigeria, and the duo will rep GOOD Music in America.
