Benin, - Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Sunday described President Goodluck Jonahan as a statesman and a man of honour.

Oshiomhole, who made the statement at a world press conference in Benin, attributed the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Edo on Saturday to Jonathan’s determination to enthrone credible democracy in Nigeria.

“ I want to appreciate Mr President with his resolve and public pronouncement that he would provide adequate security for the people and the INEC staff before, during and after the election.

“I am glad that Mr President kept to his words of assurance that there would be no thuggery, hooliganism and violence during the Edo Governorship Election.

He said that the president had led by example, which is the hall mark of a statesman.

“He is indeed a statesman, a man of honour because there was adequate and effective presence of security agents on ground.

“I am impressed because the army actually played a neutral role .in the election,’’ he said.

On his victory at the polls, he congratulated his six opponents, saying he was willing to collaborate with them with a view to moving the state to a higher and better level.

He thanked the traditional institution, especially the palace of the Oba of Benin.

The governor said that “his majesty has shown and demonstrated true leadership qualities’’ since his assumption of office during his first term.

He assured the people of the state of his continued development stride, saying that their massive turnout at the poll as a testimony that there was a need for the people to rise above ethnic politics.

“We are all Edo people and should live and think alike if we have to bring rapid development to our people rather than dissipate our energies over frivolities such as ethnic politics,’’ he said (NAN)

All is ready for Anambra State to join the league of oil-producing states in the country, as Orient Petroleum Resources Plc is to commence the production of crude any moment from now. Chairman, Board of Directors of the company and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, announced this while inspecting the company’s facilities at Aguleri Otu with Governor Peter Obi, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Managing Director of Orient Petroleum, Engr Emeka Nwoawka, Igwe Peter Anukwu of Mbaukwu and other stakeholders yesterday.

Anyaoku said the company was ready to start production of crude in a couple of weeks, which would mark the first time crude is produced in inland basin in the country. He disclosed that the company’s service contractor had made significant progress in the acquisition of high resolution 3D seismic data over 640 square kilometres of Orient’s oil blocks OPL 915 & 916 to delineate the full extent of the hydrocarbon discoveries and prospects.

The team also inspected the 20-kilometre access road to the oil wells and the 10-kilometre flow line for evacuating crude to a spot at Anambra River basin, from where evacuation of crude will be undertaken by barges to Brass in Bayelsa State.
The company, according to Anyaoku, had equally finalised the detailed engineering and sourced the modules of its 55,000 bpd refinery. It had also completed the geotechnical, geological and hydro-geological surveys and civil engineering works for installation of refinery equipment.

Orient Petroleum had also completed acquisition of seven hectares of land from Kogi State for establishment of depot for distribution of petroleum products from the refinery to the North and other parts of the country.
Conducting the delegation round the facilities, the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum gave assurance that Anambra would soon join the club of oil-producing states. He thanked Governor Obi for his interest in the project and appealed to him to continue to support it. He said the drilling environment conformed to international standards.
Responding, Obi commended the Board of Orient Petroleum for its resilience and determination to bring the project on stream. He said that when functional, the company would, among other things, create employment, fast-track overall development of the host community as well as contribute in strengthening the State and national economy. He assured of continued government support for the project.
Earlier, the Board of Orient Petroleum Plc had paid a courtesy visit to Governor Obi at the Government House before proceeding on the inspection.

Culture / Re: Who Foots The Bill Of Traditional Wedding In Igbo Culture. by SU2011: 1:55am On Aug 08, 2011
Igba nkwu is usually organised by the bride's family, this follows from the fact that the wedding is held at the bride's house. This does not preclude the guy from helping out. He is expected to bring yams and stuff like that, but also the guy may want to bring the wedding to his level as his in-laws may not be well off. If he allows his in-laws to do it according to their capacity, the guy will be embarrassed when his friends come for the wedding wink
The wedding in Igbo land is not as expensive as people make it out to be. When I hear people saying that it's expensive, I ask them whether carpenters and mechanics dont get married in Igbo land. Why it seems extravagant atimes is that people just compete with each other to have the biggest weddings. The basic requirements for marriage in Igbo land is not much.

I've spent time going through most of the posts here. Many posts show very wishful thinking. The reality is that when it comes to sexuality, men are much more polygamous than women. This is not to say that women are not polygamous, they are, but to a very less degree.

Men and women cheat for very different reasons. Men's primary reason for cheating is for intimate gratification. They usually dont have any affection for the woman they cheat with. Therefore even if the home front is in a perfect shape, many men will cheat. For most women that cheat, it is usually not for intimate gratification. Most of them start due to the woman feeling neglected by her man and then getting attention from an outside guy. It is more like a relationship. A lot of times the sex occurs because the outside man starts demanding for sex and the woman doesnt want to lose the attention she's getting. This doesnt mean you dont have women that go out just for sex, but they are in the minority. This is why each time a man is caught cheating, the same scenario plays out. The guy tries to convince his woman that he loves her, that what happened was just sex. The woman is busy screaming that the man cant be cheating on her if he loves her. This is clearly people seeing a case from different angles. The average woman cant separate love from sex, but to the average guy, they are totally different. Most men can actually be monogamous when it comes to love, but in the arena of sex, its a different ball game.

When women say that if the woman can keep herself faithful, the man should do the same, its a ridiculous argument because men and women are not the same. Let me prove it to you. If you tell the average woman that you will give her a new cool guy every weekend to Be Intimate with, most women will not be interested in the offer. But try that with the average guy, thats like his dream come true. This is so, irrespective of race. Music video producers know this and that is why they surround themselves with many sexy women in their videos to show that they have made it, because thats the dream of most men.

The number of men that do not cheat is very low. This number includes some that are actually man-lover, some that have very low libido, some that dont have the opportunity, some that the consequences of doing so is too heavy etc. If you remove all these categories of people, you find out that the actual number of men that are faithful out of their own volition is extremely small.

Polygamy was being practiced in virtually every culture on earth prior to christianity. This is clear evidence that it is the natural tendency of humans. The west embraced christianity and because christianity allows only one wife, monogamy became popular. The monogamy forced on humans is still not working. What you see in most parts of the west is what is referred to as 'serial monogamy'. Since the society is not allowing men to marry more than one wife they end up marrying and divorcing and moving to the next woman. For people that point to the west to show where monogamy works, I laugh in chinese. The number of marriages that end because of unfaithfulness in the west is incredible. The number of american presidents that we have no evidence of their having multiple affairs can be counted on your fingers. Most of them from George Washington to Abraham Lincoln to Bill Clinton had multiple affairs. Cases like Schwarzzeneger's and Weiner's cases will continue to surface. Many people did not know that Newt Gingrich was having an affair while presiding over congress and pushing for Clinton to be impeached. Who is deceiving who.

Even David and Solomon in the Bible know that monogamy is unrealistic. Monogamy is an unnatural state, no matter how much you try to force humans to adopt it. Monogamy is the only area of our lives where we sign a dotted line, that we shall stick to a particular product for life even if a newer, better model comes out tomorrow. That is unnatural and goes against our human nature. The failure rate of monogamous relationships in societies where people are allowed to go their separate ways if it doesnt work out is like 50%. Anything with 50% failure rate is not working. People should stop deceiving themselves. The only other thing that has that level of failure and humans still engage in it is gambling. If you knew an airplane has 50% chance of crashing, would you climb unto it?

The reality is that the average guy is wired to get tired of the same woman. Its pure and simple. Most pornogrephy produced are consumed by men. The society is just forcing monogamy on people. One other very important thing to point out is that monogamy favours women. Thats why every single woman champions it. It allows the woman to have immense control over the man. Once a man has another outlet for his intimate desires like pornogrephy or other women, his woman feels the loss of power and control over the man and she is terrified.

If men were actually given a choice, very few men will take the oath that they will be with only their wife for the rest of their life. The term 'cheat' comes from the assumption that the man promised to be faithful, but in actual sense, he made that promise under duress. Many women feel strongly negative about this idea of the man cheating because our generation have been sold the idea of monogamy from birth. But the fact that you were sold monogamy doesnt mean the genetic nature of men will change to accommodate it. Most women in the past accepted the polygamous nature of men and didnt feel strongly violated when the man had affairs.

Monogamy favours women, pure and simple. You have a guy guaranteed for life to Be Intimate with you, show you love and take care of your offspring irrespective of how you look. Think about it. As men and women age, the man appreciates in value because he's rising in his work place or business but the woman depreciates in value, which is primarily looks. Monogamy guarantees that the man will not leave the woman even though she reduces in value. I know some people esp feminists will attack me for saying women lose value because their looks degenerate with time, but its just arguing with facts.

I'm sure my position will elicit a lot of attacks but i stand by it because its the truth. This issue has been argued by so many generations before us and will continue to be argued even after we leave earth.

If you feel Bankole has done anything wrong and you have evidence, please sue him all the way to supreme court. The president has his work cut out for him. I feel some people will even call GEJ to come and change the light bulb in their house.

Politics / Re: Jonathan Helping Ohakim To Cling On Desperately In Imo ! by SU2011: 1:08pm On Apr 30, 2011
Its like some people's brain is made of ice cream. How can they accuse GEJ of aiding Ohakim to cling onto power. The annoyance or frustration should be directed to INEC and not to GEJ. GEJ is doing nothing to influence the outcome of the election. He is presently in Obudu for a retreat. He supported Ohakim just like every politician would do. Fashola supports every ACN candidate anywhere in Nigeria even though some may be rogues. Also note that GEJ cannot direct INEC to declare anyone winner as some of you are demanding. INEC is doing its best considering the situation it finds itself. They cancelled elections in some areas where ohakim rigged massively. That is what created the stalemate. If they declare Rochas winner with the already collated result, Ohakim will easily upturn the election even in a magistrate court. People should make sure they go out and vote and protect their votes on May 6th. Hopefully there will be more security forces to check Ohakim and his group from rigging. The elections are usually better when its focused on a small area as INEC is able to concentrate its resources in that small area. Please GO AND VOTE ON MAY 6TH.

I have observed keenly the happenings of the last 48hrs. I must confess that the Northern muslims have done an almost disastrous damage to themsleves. Even if JEGA wakes up tomorrow and says there should be a run-off, Buhari will NOT win. Let me give you my reasons. First the SS & SE will come out en mass to vote against Buahri. What we saw in the last election was about 70% turnout and 98% Jonathan votes. What we will see now is almost 100% turnout, 100% Jonathan votes. Second, the yorubas in SW will have a more impressive turnout this time around. They are about 50% muslim and 50% Christians. Jonathan will get almost 100% of the christaian votes. Many of the muslims will probably not vote due to disenchantment will the whole northern uprising and a good number that vote will vote for Jonathan.
Third, the North Central that is predominantly christian will come out en mass to vote Jonathan. Buhari will be left with only NW & NE. Even in those places, the christians and Igbos present will still vote Jonathan. My advise to Buhari is just to concede the election in good faith. Acknowledge there were irregularities but that they are not enough to change the result drastically.
Conducting another round of elections is just wasting the country's resources as Jonathan WILL still win. The northern muslims will do themselves some good and end this uprising because they are just succeeding in making the rest of the country wary of voting for a northern muslim. Sir Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa understood that no single tribe or religion can go it alone. You must be able to build consensus and play down religion. A word is enough for the wise.

No need to scream. Go and recalculate your figures. no one is having 90% as you are saying. A state like Enugu has 1.3million voters but only about 800,000 voted. That gives a turnout of 60% which is not different from what you have in other states. Lets be truthful with figures please.
