seunmsg: Wasted votes and void votes are the same. All these arguments are just semantics from partisan interest. Wasted/void votes are valid when determining the total vote cast in any election. Arguing otherwise is going against the constitution and the electoral act. If the PDP candidate failed to get 25% of total vote cast in at least 2/3 of the local governments in the state, INEC will have to conduct a run-off election between the candidates of PDP and the party that came third. Anything short of what I have explained will amount to illegality. No! Wasted votes are non-existence votes. Valid, invalid and voided votes these terms have been in legal parlance for a while and supreme Court judges are well acquainted with it, but explicitly used the term "wasted votes". No one counts wasted votes, this is the interpretation of Apex court judges. The required spread is a discussion of valid votes, which APC's non-existence votes don't in. Law doesn't deal with emotions but legality of matter at hand and often to serve as deterrent to others. Whether 1 million people are being disenfranchised is non issue in court of law. Don't forget in a hurry, that Rotimi Amaechi was in USA enjoying himself while Celestine Omeh whom campaiged and people voted for was later on denied by same Apex court based on the fact that people don't vote candidates but party Furthermore, voided vote is an invalid vote because it's not well thumb printed; the party voted for can't be ascertained, but wasted votes are thumb printed votes in favour of a particular party. This is the interpretation of supreme Court. No where in electoral law that says a vote well ascertained for a party is voided vote.

rafindo: Does the constitution recognize wasted vote.the supreme is actually compounding a serious debate. Wasted votes automatically disenfranchised the voter who had nothing to do with internal issue of a party. The best the supreme court should have done is other a new election with APC excluded. People votes must count not court vote. Supreme court erred in error. APC votes don't count in either way. Voting for a party which ought not to have been on ballot paper is wasted! The court explicitly said, the party with the second highest valid votes should be declared winner if it meets the required spread. By required spread, it means, among the parties with valid votes. So, wasted votes can't be taken into consideration since it neither valid nor invalid.

bkool7: Pdp did not win any local government in Zamfara. Whether APc's votes are void or not , that does not change the number of voters in Zamfara nor does it change the number of accredited voters
The law say you must have 25% in each LGA. The law didn't say 25% of valid votes. Maybe you will be able to comprehend it now. PDP didn't win any local government, it means you are still counting APC's wasted votes, which is neither valid nor invalid. Remove APC 580K votes and redo the calculation. APC votes is nonexistent! |
Politics › Re: Zamfara Supreme Court Judgement: Did PDP Meet The Constitutional Requirement? by Sufisunni: 10:22am On May 25, 2019 |
tesppidd: The courts did not exclude the APC from the ballot. If they did then anyone who went ahead to cast a vote for the APC are on their own and as such, such vote could be illegal, null and void.
But as long as the courts allowed APC to participate in that first ballot be ordering INEC to include their party APC, No Supreme Court anywhere in the world can disenfranchise those 580,000 Zamfara indigenes who cast their votes for APC.
They must all determine that 3/4 spread. Man, APC votes is neither invalid nor valid. It's wasted! As one voting on a paper not issued by INEC. |

Safyqueen: See the break down.
*IT IS NOT YET UHURU FOR PDP IN ZAMFARA STATE*
IBRAHIM ABDUL, Esq. P.hD. ANALYSED:
ZAMFARA: A NOVEL CONSTITUTIONAL PRECEDENCE From the Supreme Court judgement today and my analysis of the Zamfara State declared Guber results vis-a-vis the declaration of the Apex Court ''that the runner-up candidate be sworn in if he fulfills the constitutional requirement of getting one quarter of the total votes cast in at least two-third of the local government areas of the state''. The PDP may not benefit from the judgement as being speculated. Here is my analysis.
The PDP did not win any of the 14 Local Government Areas in the last Gubernatorial polls in Zamfara state, APC won all. However, PDP had one-quarter (25%) of the total votes cast in only 6 (Anka, Bukkuyum, Maradum, Buggundu, Kaura Namoda and Maru LGs) while it did not make the 25% requirement in the remaining 8 (Bakura, Gunmi, Zurmi, Birnin Mogaji, Gusau, Shinkafi and Tsafe). Mathematically, two-third of 14 (LGs) is 9. Thus, Zamfara may not have a substantive Governor come May 29, 2019. Even if the Chief Judge assumes the Acting Governor's role, there may still not be any elected members of the House of Assembly to be inaugurated. So the CJ will be a Sole Administrator. All votes allocated to APC is null. Neither valid nor invalid. So, remove APC votes and do the calculation yourself |

tesppidd: The truth is that everybody now wants to turn logic on it's head.
Logic!
The essence of the constitutional requirement of 25 percent in 3/4 is for a great spread of the state indigenes to have a say in electing their governor.
And for anybody to imagine that the Suprme Court would seek to punish the over 70 percent of Zamfara indigenes who voted for the APC not out of breaking the law but simply because the APC fumbled their own primaries is quite idiotic to say the least.
There is no way that the votes cast for the APC could be disregarded in determining this "spread", required by the law.
No way!!
That would amount to technically disenfranchising over 70 percent of Zamfara indigenes who did nothing wrong.
The Supreme Court wouldn't contemplate that. Always know that, there is difference between moral thinking and law. As far as the Zamfara case is concerned, all votes allocated to APC does not count in anyway either as valid or invalid, it's wasted voted; null! So count the remaining parties valid votes and consider the invalid too. |

Udantu: Wasted votes are dead votes
Zamfara at a glance. Crunching the figures: PRE-SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT: 1) total votes cast: 810, 782 2) total cancelled votes: 17,844 3) total valid votes: 792,938 4) APC votes: 534,541 5) PDP votes: 189, 452 6) NRM votes: 15, 177
POST-SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT:
1) Total valid votes 792, 938 - APC wasted votes 534, 541 = 258, 541
2) total valid votes at play = 258, 541 3) cancelled votes 17, 844
RESULTS AS THEY STAND POST-SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT:
1) PDP 189, 452 2) NRM 15, 177
a) Difference between PDP & NRM votes: 174, 272
b) Cancelled votes 17,844
i) Total votes cast: 258, 397 ii) PDP votes 189, 452 Difference = 68, 945
Pdp has won it very good analysis |

Recently, the Nigerian Senate rejected the Electric Car Bill proposed by Senator Ben-Murray Bruce.
The bill with the objective of phasing out the use of petroleum/diesel vehicles by 2035 and have them replaced by electric cars.
The bill was first read on April 10th. However, it was never approved for a second reading because the Senate considered it irrelevant.
According to Senator Ben-Murray, the introduction of electric cars in the country will help Nigeria actualize a clean energy policy, encourage the use of modern technology, de-emphasize on oil consumption, and also reduce air pollution.
Earlier today, Senator Ben Bruce took to Twitter to lament the rejection of the bill in a tweet he captioned:
“This is the reality in the world today. Electric cars are outselling regular cars. Yet, Nigeria refuses to plan for this inevitability on the pretext that we are an oil-producing nation. Norway is an oil producing country. But she is also a sensible nation”.
See photos of the tweet below.
https://autojosh.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Ben-Bruce-Electric-Car-4-1.jpg mumu. He doesn't think about the economic implication of his bill. He's only after name, as the person who sponsors such bill. For your information, Norway, Canada Saudi Arabia and recently USA r not part of Paris Climate deal for the single reason they are producing oil, partaking in such deal, will be detrimental to their economies. So this fool wants Nigeria, who has only oil as it main source of revenue to pass electric car bill |
