Politics › Fashola Under Pressure To Resign by Sunofgod(op): 7:26pm On Jul 14, 2011
PDP demands Fashola resignation

The Lagos state chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded for the "immediate resignation" of the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola over the flooding of most parts of the state on Sunday.

The party also demanded an unreserved apology from the governor and the payment of adequate compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and property in the flood.

The party's publicity secretary in Lagos State, Taofik Gani, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, where it sympathised with residents affected by the two-days heavy downpour.

PDP described the disaster as "an avoidable trauma," insisting that the state government could have done more to prevent the flooding.

"Contrary to the claim by the state government that Lagosians dump refuse and build on the drainage, the actual cause of the flooding is lack of proper drainage. It is uncomplimentary for the state government to accuse Lagos residents for its own negligence, dereliction of duty and maladministration," the statement read.

According to the party, the state government had over the years failed to clear primary drainage in the state which resulted in last Sunday's floods. It also alleged that the blocking of waterways by construction companies also contributed to the flooding.

More blame

Blaming the government for the ongoing Eko Atlantic project, the PDP claimed that the unnecessary sand filling of lagoons, seas and the ocean by the state government also raised the water level of the ocean.

The statement further lamented the frequent collapse of buildings and loss of lives in Lagos State as it blamed the continued collapse of buildings in the state on the inability of the state to punish government officials involved in the monitoring of building construction.

The PDP then called on the state government to provide affordable housing for the people as a way of making substandard buildings unattractive.

Politics › Re: Sanusi Double Speak? Warns Fg Not To Remove Fuel Subsidy by Sunofgod(m): 7:17pm On Jul 13, 2011
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam. Lamido Sanusi,]has warned on the impending dangers of total removal of petrol subsidy by the Federal Government.

{Impending? Seems like the decision to remove fuel subsidies has already been made}

Sanusi said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan should subsidise production instead of consumption.

{This will benefit 'Petroleum Product Prroducers' and not consumers - More profits for 'Companies', More hardship for everyday Nigerians}

Delivering the first Prof. William Okefie Uzoaga Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, Sanusi enjoined the Federal Government to use the money currently spent to subsidise consumption for subsidising production so as to create employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the country.

(But we only really produce crude oil - the refined products are from foreign companies. Therefore such a move may create jobs - Abroad}

The CBN governor noted that government spent enormous money daily to subsidise petroleum products, when such money could have been channeled towards building new refineries as well as reactivating existing moribund ones in the nation.

{That may be the case - so why not cut government overheads - Sanusi himself has stated that the cost of governance in Nigeria is excessive. So isn't it logical to trim the salaries of govt officials rather than create hardships for everyday Nigerians?}

Money used to subsidise importation and consumption, Sanusi stated, “improves the economy of other countries and also create jobs for youths of such countries, to the detriment of our own economy and creating more unemployment in Nigeria.

{I would expect such a statement from a drunkard and not from the CBN Governor. Fuel subsidies benefit everybody in Nigeria. The increase in inflation without these subsidies will be detrimental to the economy}

The CBN boss, had in the lecture on ‘Growing Nigeria’s Real Sector For Employment And Economic Development’ expressed worry over the alarming rate of unemployment in the country.

{Well then assist in making Nigeria an environment where businesses can grow and prosper - The removal of fuel subsidies will lead to increased costs, reduced demand and increased employment}

Goodluck Jonathan cannot solve this problem, because he is not a Northerner. The only reason why Boko Haram was defeated before, is because we had a Northern president at the time, who could use a Northern dominated army to suppress a Northern group.

Do people think that a Northern dominated military will listen to a Christian leader from a minority tribe to defeat their Northern brothers?
Pschological Warfare?

So if a 'Northerner is not President we wont have peace?

Then let there be chaos!!!

That's the future!
The era of government running every company is over. We need to privatize these companies, so that goverment can focus on the real business of governing. Not setting up bakeries, poultries and piggeries, transportation companies, and all worth not.
But wont this lead to the 'Privatisation' of the countries infrastructure and natural resources?

Would this be a good thing for Nigeria?

Olusegun Aganga, Nigeria’s former finance minister, took up a new position today as trade and investment minister in President Goodluck Jonathan’s Cabinet, the ministry said in an e-mailed statement.
Aganga’s job at the new ministry is to attract private investment to help grow the economy of Africa’s most populous country of more than 150 million people, according to the statement.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-11/nigerian-president-jonathan-makes-aganga-trade-and-investment-minister.html

I'm betting on him to flop again. I have no faith in this fellow, he made some schoolboy errors on his last appointment. Well, you would not expect much more from someone with a degree in Biological Sciences and Theology.
Sounds like he's now charged with Privatising Nigeria.

Aganga - Okonjo-Iweala - Sanusi = The 'Deadly' trio.

The economy is firmly in their hands.
