Yes they can - If they fight fire with fire.

GEJ needs to put together a special team of 'suicide police' who will be tasked with infiltrating the 'terrorists' before detonating their own suicide bomb in the terrorists presence. shocked

otitokoro1:
I have looked critically into so many reasons why many government in Nigeria over the time failed,

There is a fundamental issue that I see as hindrance to any successful government in Nigeria,

Credible data Base,  On this issue it is better late than never.  The journey of one million years must start with a step.

With the advent of New Technology, Nigeria should start building a strong database that will take into account of our real population, reflecting, the numbers of Nigerian children, aged, working age, school leavers, unemployed and of course extending to tracking rural/urban Migration.

It is possible, within 3 years this could be achieved,

Borrowing a leave from the developed countries, We can use that to build a strong social security system for the Nigerian Citizen,

What is your view?
If this is what you came up with after 'critical thinking' then Na Wa for you.

If your into building database's and your just 'touting' for business from the federal govt then just say so. I'm sure they will see your idea as a novel one (like the national ID Card Scam Project)

So throughtout the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, etc our 'Governments' have been constantly failing because of no database on its people and not because of corruption?

And as for 'Social Security' in Nigeria - Pleassseeeeeee.

In Nigeria its every man for himself - The Fed Govt certainly doesn't give a damn about providing 'Social Security' to its people. And quite frankly most Nigerians would prefer steady electricity.
Politics › Re: What Is The Cause of The Mismanagement of Africa? by Sunofgod(m): 6:33pm On Jun 16, 2011
hackney:
Management is a trait or character that is synonymous with highly developed humans.

If your brain nerve wiring is less than other races then you may not have the ability to be truly organised like them.
its like asking someone with no hands to pick something up. the ability is not there. simple

Across the human race (using the color spectrum from white on one end to yellow\brown all the way to black), the darker your race is, the smaller your brain or at least the less nerve inter-connections. Have a good look at all the black nations and  then look at the black nations that have whites in them. they lead the others immidiately;
S.A is a typical example. its the largest economy in africa despite all they've been through; does anyone here for one second believe that its the blacks there?

The size of countries' economy , grade of infrastructures and facilities, technological advancement, behaviour and ability to make things, all follow this trend too.

One may doubt it despite the glaring trend observable in the world over. the reason for this doubt also goes back to the brain issue.

The truth is that as a people (not individuals) we may not be able to achieve social order or management simply because we cannot.

Haiti is still suffering from the earthquake of almost a year but japan that had a similar catastrophe is back.
all trends.
The extent of the ignorance sometimes found on NL astonishes me.

You forgot to mention the amount of 'Cocunuts' such as yourself the continent has produced.

The Darker the race, the Smaller the brain? You need to re-examine your views because they are flawed and offensive.

At school you should have learnt that humanity started in Africa - These other shades of people on this earth are less evolved as their race has been on the earth for a lesser amount of time.

Black Africans (pure) are the only race that do not contain 'Neandrathal' DNA. Neandrathal can never be classed as a human but more a sub human. This is a fact!!!

This same fact helps explain the nature of 'Non Black' people - they are a sub-human 'war loving' creature. They are a 'Mutation' from Black Africans. However, their 'species' are a cross breed with Neandrathals - Fact!!!

Africa is mis-managed by design - We were divided in order to be conquered. The mis management of Africa has been what has sustained the 'west' for thousands of years.

Historical records support this fact including how in recent times Africa was divided up (1885) for the benefit of 'Western' powers.

My friend, if that is your definition of cut spending, then that's on you and has absolutely nothing to do with me; please don't define that as what I meant. Besides, do you have any better idea? One way or another they will e affected.

Besides, no one is asking the govt to lay them off after all laying off isn't a crime, there are million ways for govt to cut spending. The govt can freeze pay raises, shrink and or defer salaries, drastically reduce spending on govt programmes, increase tax revenue to balance the budget, focus on income generating projects, and seek investment ideas to boost the economy which in turn will generate revenues to fill in the gaps.
If you have a 'Bucket' with holes in the bottom it will not hold water.

Likewise, most of these broke states have received significant amounts of money - that simply 'leaked' into the wrong area's and wrong hands.

Most of these states have to change their 'Philosophy' before anything - the incompetence and corruption has to go.

I'm bitterly against any suggestion of making the inhabitants of the state pay for the mistakes of the previous administration.

Taxing the people will indeed generate revenue - that will again simply 'leak' away with nothing to show for it (apart from flambouyant ex politicians - cheesy)

Why is the size of governments in Nigeria so bloated? If the revenue of a state is less than the cost of paying salaries, common sense dictates that the state RIGHTSIZE its workforce. A situation where governments borrow to pay salaries is unsustainable. Where will money for capital projects come from?

The same issue is happening at the Federal level. Nigerians don''t realize the recurrent expenditure of the FG alone is 114% of annual national revenue. Why do you think our national debt has been ballooning? A situation where FG offers bonds (thereby saddling our kids with massive debt) and thereafter fritter that money away in subsidizing petroleum products is madness ($4.5 billion in 2010 alone).

There has to be drastic downsizing in governments across the board! otherwise what is happening in Greece will be like child's play when our day of reckoning comes.
In the private sector all workers are expected to contribute to the profitability of the business. I've worked for companies that can even break down for you how much each person is contributing to the bottom line.

The 'Civil Servants' employed throughout Nigeria dont add any value to whatever it is they are doing.

If they were employed in a productive capacity then the state government would actually profit from their services.

I know of many local governments in many western countries who are charged with generating revenues through the efficient provision of public services. They are even motivated to do this through the payment of bonuses linked to how much you or your department bring in.

Such a thing doesn't happen in Nigeria.

How much is paid to 'Raodside Policemen' on a yearly basis?
Is this money accounted for on a state or federal level?
Or does the corrupt police officer just pocket the money?

The word deficit and Nigeria really should not be used in the same sentence. How can we be running at a deficit with the huge amounts made from crude oil? Its disgraceful.

The debts that are being accrued will not grow linearly - It will grow exponentially as we will start to pay the equivalent of interest on interest on all these borrowings.
Before long we will be unable to even meet the minimum repayments on these debts.

The subsidies being paid on fuel products actually helps curb inflation - without the subsidies the price of all fuels will be higher which in turn will result in higher prices acrross the board.

The IMF must be waiting very enthusiatically for Nigeria to start defaulting so they can move in to carry out their eveil deeds on this once great nation. But we shouldn't blame the IMF - We should blame ourselves.

Seems like most states in Nigeria have trouble generating revenues? Whatever happened to taxes to generate revenues.

The gov is adding more debt to himself by further borrowing ; if I were him, cut expenditures to a drastic limit obviously, then revisit the debt. After that, how does he state live within its means and how does it generate revenues. I have always said it, the word "FREE" isn't in my book, and all this politicians need to cut the crap, nothing is free but can be affordable. Taxes will go along way(sales, income, auto or motorcycle taxes, mortgage/homes/rental property taxes, alcohol taxes, corporate earning taxes, utilities taxes like cell phones et al. Trust and believe, every penny counts one way or another. I mean if the state has restricted sales taxes on food and other fundamental items, but not on other items, a 1% tax rate will generate revenues and solve a lot of problems
Tax the people and cut public spending by sacking civil servants - Excellent Idea Not

Afterall its their fault that the states funds have been squandered and mis managed.

African leaders slammed over vaccine coverage

Microsoft founder Bill Gates says some African countries are failing to deliver life-saving vaccines to children, hampering billiondollar efforts to save millions of lives and stamp out deadly diseases.

The magnate, who these days spends more time talking about the "miracle of vaccines" than software, spoke to AFP in a telephone interview ahead of an address to the World Health Assembly in Geneva Tuesday.

Gates's message: Technology is only as effective as the leaders delivering it.

Once you have vaccines invented and manufactured at low cost, and rich donors paying for them, "you have to have developing countries act to take the vaccines and get them out to all the kids."

"It is tragic when the last delivery piece holds it back," he said.

"You have some countries, northern Nigeria, or Chad or the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) where less than half the kids right now are getting the vaccines," he said, referring to polio immunization in those countries.

"They are just not putting good people on it, not tracking their results, not even getting out to parts of the country. The message has to be clear. They have to see this as their top priority. It hasn't been."

The world is 99 per cent toward making polio the second disease to be wiped out, after smallpox. The paralyzing disease, which once terrorized the developed world, exists now only in a few countries.

Nigeria, the world's most troublesome polio spot, saw a 95 per cent cut in cases last year due to revitalized immunization but is facing a lack of support from government leaders, which Gates attributed to the "distraction of the elections" in the country.

A spread to Chad and the DRC poses great risks for eradication efforts. The two countries carry 58 per cent of the total cases of polio this year.

"The key point is to help them get it right; many very, very poor countries do have 90 per cent coverage rates," Gates said.

When vaccines save lives it is "not because of hospitals or doctors or any of the expensive stuff. It doesn't require fancy equipment. Simply keeping the vaccination cold and getting them out to all the kids."

In Africa, millions of children die from diarrheal diseases and pneumonia - the vaccines are too expensive. At the same time, other deadly diseases such as malaria need new, low-cost vaccines.

Gates has been rallying hard for donors to keep funding up as the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization seeks to fill a $3.7-billion funding gap at its June 13 pledging conference.

All these 'Broke States'

I wonder what will be the first state to default on their loans?

That's the point where we will see total anarchy. The moment the state can no longer pay its workers.

And why would any 'Bank' loan money to a 'Broke state' with little or no prospects of revenue generation?

Like Rochas he better go see Fashola to find out how 'Bonds' work. Then like Fashola he can delay the downfall of his state for just a little longer until the bonds mature.

I fear for the future of Nigeria.

'Yam eating responsible for multiple births in Ekiti'

Agency Reporter

The wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, on Thursday said the state was one of the states with the highest incidence of multiple births across the world.

http://odili.net/news/source/2011/jun/10/828.html

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Fayemi made the disclosure in Ado-Ekiti at the inauguration of the Multiple Birth Trust Fund.

She attributed the increases in multiple births in the state to the high consumption of yam by the inhabitants.

The governor's wife also expressed concern that Nigeria still recorded the second highest maternal mortality rate in the world, describing it as "unfortunate and pathetic".

She revealed that Governor Fayemi had set aside a certain amount of money to cater for those with multiple births in the 2011 budgetary allocation.

Fayemi, who is the President, African Women Development Fund, said AWDF had helped over 800 women in 42 countries. She added that she set up the scheme to ensure that whoever fell into the category did not suffer.

She said all resources must be deployed to give support to mothers of triplets and quadruplets in the state.

According to her, multiple births mostly occur among the poor and all efforts must be on deck to give them support.

She said, "I don't think it is good for us to fold our arms and allow these poor people to suffer because of God's blessings. I know that children are a blessing from God which we have to fight hard to safeguard.

"We are not going to take care of these children alone from infancy, but we are going to make investment for them so that by the time they are prepared to go to school, the parents will not be sweating."

She decried the lack of proper records on expectant mothers.
, and yet she produced all these statistics.

And how exactly is 'Yam' responsible for it?

From the start of the 1980's, if all our corrupt politicians and other officials had invested their loot in Nigeria:

- It would have resulted in Billions and Billions circulating within the economy.

- It would have led to thousands and thousands of jobs being created.

- It would have led to Nigeria being a modern industrialised state today.

But it would have definetely pissed of the white man as the embezzled loot would not have found its way into their corrupt banks and false economies.

Even though the money was diverted from the public sector, it would have at least been spent in the private sector within Nigeria.

'Toxic Chemicals In US Drone Strikes

Experts revealed that those Pakistani civilians who have come under the unauthorized drone airstrike in Pakistan's troubled northwest have been afflicted with complicated skin, eye and respiratory diseases due to the deadly chemical materials used in the missiles, the Press TV correspondent in Peshawar reported on Thursday.

According to journalists and experts from Waziristan that is a mountainous region of northwest Pakistan which has often been the focal point of US drone attacks, they have received numerous reports from several people and local doctors pointing at the hazardous effects of the ongoing drone attacks on the entire population.

"Since these drone strikes have been carried out, we have witnessed several peculiar disease cases, and our press club have been frequently visited by those complainants, who have developed skin and bronchial diseases in the aftermath of drone airstrikes. I'd like to add further that the agriculture and the livestock are also showing pitiable condition," journalist Safdar Dawar told Press TV.

An expert from Waziristan says his daughter died of blood cancer soon after she had developed a skin disease, which was no more than the toxic effect of chemical substances used in the non-UN-sanctioned drone strikes.

"I myself lost my daughter, who was just 28 months old, she developed a skin disease and later on she was diagnosed, within a month, with blood cancer. At that time people were talking about the chemical bombings being carried out. The same is the case now that wherever the drone attacks are carried out, people in that area are complaining about skin diseases, lung infections, throat infections and various kinds of other diseases," Pakistani political expert Safiullah Gul said.

The report strikes at the heart of growing tension between the United States and Pakistan over the US aerial attacks on Pakistani soil.

Washington claims the airstrikes target militants. However, the attacks have killed hundreds of civilians in Pakistan since 2008, local reports say.
