Lagos, as a former capital, was built to create such opportunities. With the sole functional sea port located there, it is only natural that more businesses would be located or operate a branch in Lagos especially in a country that is heavily dependent on importation.
People will move to anywhere they can make a living regardless of whether the host community is accommodating or not and the SW is not the most accommodating region.
I'm not one of those who believes Igbos own Lagos, Lagos's economy was built by all Nigerians from all regions.
Lagos was built by the world and not even all Nigerians. It is multicultural city with Koreans, japanese, Americans, Lebanese, Europeans, and of course Arabs are present and pumping billions into it.

None is garrulous and rude enough, apart from the landlocked people from East of the Niger that claims what they are not and what they do not have to offer.

I repeat, give it to the yorubas for the enabling environment created for Lagos to be the melting point of the world for Africa, If it was volatile with religious crisis or militancy no one will dare invest there. Apart from that, you need to salute their administrative skill.

Tell me a region that is more accommodating than SW in this country. Just 1.

Point of correction, Lagos ports are not the only functional ports. Onne in PH s functional and it is closer to SE. Warri is functional and it is closer to SE.

People import through Lagos because that axis provides a sales opportunity that is not obtainable anywhere else. Simple. You are talking of almost 50million people in that axis alone and with a sizable number having the capacity to buy anything up for sales.

Your reasoning would have been spot on if other SW states had similar revenue figures to that of Lagos state. If this report is true, it only supports the argument that Lagos state revenue is generated by the collective effort of all Nigerians.
It takes yoruba's acumen to create an enabling environment and administrative skill to facilitate it. Is it the people that 70% of Lagos that are at the helms of affairs of the state?

Better put, instead of telling us some cock and bull story of how Igbos made it possible.

We cane never deny the fact that other Nigerians contributed, but telling us Igbos are responsible is irresponsible and provocative.

Another fact that can not be denied is that the peaceful nature of the SW environment made it possible for others to always migrate there. Is Kano not populated and cosmopolitan? People have the choice of living in Enugu, Dutse, Warri, but they chose to migrate to Lagos based on the opportunities it offers and those opportunities are premised on security of lives and property that is obtainable.

Taa park one side abeg, the white people discovered Lagos when only Egun, Aworis and ijaws was living in it, the white colonist sand filled it and make it what it was today, later the Bini king send expedition to Lagos and captured it and later hand it over to the white colonizers, then later migrant Yorubas started pouring in from the hinterland followed by the igbos and others, in the old western Nigeria, Lagos is not part of South Western Nigeria and that is what Nigeria constitution recognized, geopolitical zones is not recognized by Nigeria constitution, don't go and read books written by Yorubas to soot their interest, the same way they coined a fake story about Oduduwa, where as Oduduwa is one of the runaway banished Benin prince as well documented in Benin ancient archives. Google it
Revisionists. You are liar.

Even Oba of Benin can nver tell you Oduduwa is the son of runaway prince, when the crown he is wearing is one of our forfathers. Why is the seat bearing ''Oba''? Why do they bury all their Kings in Ife? What is the root word of Benin? It is from which language?

SO when the Benin war expedition got to Eko, they did not meet people there abi? Ijaws do not have any stake in Lagos. They are migrants. It is Aworis territory. What is the meaning of Awori. What is the history of the aworis?

Let us even agree that they conquer an Island which is Lagos Island. By virtue of being the owners of the crown of their king, we are by extension the owners of anything and everything they own.

Abeg park well. We are well tutored and brought up in our history. For people that do not know history r do not have any, you cannot be a revisionist.

Ode! Move the ports from Lagos and see if one igbo man remains in your heaven. Mind you for political purposes the NPA in PH is "arguably" moribund. This is the the Atikus play with Intel to divert major port activities to Lagos.

Perhaps you have forgotten so soon that Lagos received inhabitants after its naming as the Federal capital coupled with the advantages of it being a port, so I expect the Bwaris and other Abuja locals to rant to your yoruba brothers in times to come.

Lazy ass
Another of the numerous lies of the y1bos.

There are ports in warri and onne. Calabar has a port. We have been hearing of the Onitsha port for the past donkey years. Are they not closer to Alaigbo? Bunch of liars.

Lagos was before Federal Government came, it was when FG was here and it is after FG departure and will forever be.
Politics › Unending List Of No Man's Land by superstar1(op): 9:19am On Oct 26, 2015
It seems the list of no man's land of some funny people keeps swelling everyday. They are very magnanimous enough to develop the land of others, while theirs is allowed to remain desolate and in ruins.

Before it was Lagos that was declared a no man's land by these clowns. They failed woefully in their attempt.

Suddenly Abuja joined the picture. They failed.

They tried same in Kano and Akure. Once again they failed.

PH, Opobo and Bonny are the new No Man's Land.

They are gradually re-christening PH, in their attempt to indoctrinate their children on how they are the owners of PH and how they developed PH And how the indigenes of PH are lazy and laid back.

When will they call the next no man's land? Your guess is as good as mine. Probably sambisa forest.

I see the foot prints of the igbo merchants in Lagos, Kano and Kaduna. Let's even look at Ondo which is heated with south-western nepotism at the moment and fiery hate for the igbos.

I would kindly suggest we have a rethink if we must survive this union called Nigeria. Someone rightly noted the poor spate of the Northern contribution to our purse and yet they yearn for a centralised government even with the endowment of solid minerals. Is the case to deplete the south and enrich the North?

I swear Gowon knew exactly what would become of the contraption, Nigeria if they had let go, his current statement "With Biafra, it is finished!" would not have revealed any better why he exerted extreme efforts to destroy the Biafran struggle.

I think at this point the Nigerian agenda should be pacifying the igbos to remain in Nigeria through whatever means.
What is the foot print of the y1bos on the places you mentioned?

If their figures are die to y1bos, are the y1bos in SE aliens? Logically, every state in SE should have been realising 500bn per annum.

Y1bos and their penchant for taking glory for what they did not contribute zilch to.

Y1bos and their mouthful boast of helping others to develop something, while theirs lies underdeveloped.

Sanmi,
Ileke's thought is a solid one. Your response is valid as well. Every so often we face challenges that awaken us to the limitations impeding our progress and then we share and contribute ideas...and the conclusion is always the same, let's form a movement to counter the opposing challenge.

If we didn't have this internet and forum how would we meet to deliberate on our issues? There are grassroot organizations that advance the cause already. They are looking for members and inputs and implementers. We should not waste time, effort and idea creating new organizatuons. The more organizatiins we create themore disorganized is our cause and focus. We need less and people need to join so our voice can congregate to one purpose for the single commonwealth.
If you have a list of such organisation, kindly make it available.

It is high time we start driving our leaders to achieve more than these mundane things we are celebrating.

Had Awolowo operated at this level, sincerely we will not be too far away with other regions. Hour was visionary, a good planner and perfect executioner.

Where are our mega agricultural settlements on a Local Government basis?

What stops DAWN or Odua Group from building just 1 world class hospital in a serene environment, kitted to the teeth with the latest technology, for us to drive medical tourism for the region?

What stops us from drawing an entrepreneurial/vocational skill scheme for our graduating and potentially jobless youths?

What stops the region from constructing a supersonic highway that will connect the 6states capital?

Why can't we designate the airport in Ibadan or any of the other proposed airports to be a maintenance airports for airlines in sub-saharan africa?

Why can't our government drive a massive, well planned city re-building process with housing projects that are affordable?

Why can't we have a state, most especially Osun, have a major tourist attraction to complement the Osun Festival, by having a world class amusement park, mall, zoo and water park -- all in one? What stops us from making the blacks in South America and even America to see our place as their own Jerusalem or Mecca or Medina they will always have to visit in their lifetime, for them to connect with their roots and have peace with their ancestors and all other nonsense that could be said to drive tourist traffic to us?

We need to ban okada in all our states. It is making youths to be lazy mentally. It gives daily income without acquiring any major skills, which is not the philosophy our forefathers handed down to us.

Let me stop here sha.

But by then, Igbos were more in number of officers in Nigerian Armed forces, and as to be expected, were more in number among the coupists.

But take note that the slaughtering of people of former southeast region in the north of Nigeria predated the 1966 military coup.

And note also that since the 1966 coup, other military coup d'etats with predominantly Tivs have been carried out with killings of none Tivs. Did Nigeria carry out pogrom against the Tivs, as north of Nigeria carried out pogrom against the Igbo over the 1966 coup?

But tribalism and hatred are the foundation stones of Nigeria.

Tribalism and hatred are the reasons why Nigeria was politically restructured by northern soldiers to having once one northern Nigeria region now get a whooping number of twenty federating units - 19 states and Abuja - at the expense of two southern Nigeria regions given a meagre 17 states. Through foul use of land mass as criterion for creating new federating units, the north of Nigeria now lords it politically over the south. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Tribalism is when some people gather to kill the leaders of other regions, leaving theirs, in their bid to hijack power and lord it over others.
