Politics › With Biafra It Is Finished, Says Gowon by superstar1(op): 10:49am On Oct 27, 2015
Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has dismissed threat of Nigeria’s unity as he also said that with Biafra it is finished.

General Yakubu Gowon made this statement recently in reaction to the resent protests by some youths.
He said that Nigerians have put behind them the bad memories of the 1967 civil war, and that those behind these protests on Biafra don’t have an inkling what the Biafra war cost Nigerians.

The elder statesman speaking in Lafia, the Nasarwa State capital shortly after a malaria eradication campaign questioned that ‘do they want us to go to another war? but hoped and I prayed to God that such should not happen.’

He went further to say that those involved in this campaign were being driven by just a few people and that majority of the Igbo people do not share the same view.

‘It is only them, the few, that are there but the majority of the Igbo people that I know are not with them’.

Acceding to the fact that the protesters have the right to express their feelings he stated “with Biafra it is finished”.

He said these people ‘let them say their views, yes it democracy but let s make sure they can express their wishes and desires but let them remember with Biafra it is finished. it is not a threat’

He further said that keeping Nigeria one was behind all that he did and not for hatred for the Igbo as that was what Odumegwu Ojukwu also stood for.

All I did is not a result of hatred against the Igbos but on the principle of keeping Nigeria one and this is all we are trying to do and that was why at the end of the war in other to see that there is no heard feeling we used the term no victor no vanquished

I have said if there is anything of this sort anywhere in any part of the country just like the problem of Boko Haram we should deal with it, Nigeria should deal with it in matured way .

where were you when we were locking down your country during June 12 struggle. Nigeria was on a total locked down for 1993 to 1998.

investments into the country was on a sub-zero level, Nigeria was banned right, left and centre. We chased one president away and another died on the seat.

That is shaking the country.

Guess what, we achieved all that without losing 3million souls and we still got the presidency at the end of the day, at the expense of your kinsman.

Liberation of Ilorin? Impossible. Soon there will be an Emir of Oshogbo you dey talk of Ilorin. Stop am o.
We will like to see the liberation of Oyigbo by renaming it back to Obigbo. Rename back all the RUmus to Umus and reclaim back your hijacked father; properties in PH.

That will actually be the 8thwonder of the world.

Achieve that and you will then have the right to use the word liberation in your sentences.

what is the name of the king? and what village? something tells me you have just told a desperate lie in order to make your people not look so bad lol. Be honest, this is a slap to the Yorubas that a whole Olu Falae will be kidnapped and when your elders speak up.. they are told ... right in Yoruba land... and I am sure if the Senator knew how to speak Yoruba, he would have said it in Yoruba language too ... "shut up!"
Why do you igbos like denying the obvious. A visit to http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/fulani-herdsmen-kill-village-chief-in-enugu/ will confirm my story.

He never used the word shut up. Read and read over his speech 100ce. By the way, he has been duly answered. Has your elders ever made any attempt to even issue any of your numerous lame ultmatum to them? Naaaa. They are too lilly-livered to dare that.

Olu Falae was kidnapped in a village because he chose to relocate back to his village, to use his wealth of experience to assist his people. Where do your elders stay? SW I am sure. Your towns are even gully eroded, how much more the villages.

Lest I forget, call a press conference for your elders, for them to lambast fulanis for he sustained and continuous molestation of your women and killing of your village chiefs.

I believe there was a deeper reason why Ibadan warriors never bothered to liberate them when they got to Ilorin. And all the Yorubas who fought alongside the Fulanis were publicly executed in Ibadan for a reason. So why bother to liberate them now?

Also, I think Yorubas of that era would have liberated them if they wanted to (they had about three chances to do that)- but they left them in servitude for a reason. There is also a legend in an academic source that they were cursed by the Alaafin. So for them to be liberated, they might have to buy 200 cows, 100 chickens, and 50 birds to appease the gods and go see the current Alaafin looool.
They were actually left as punishment for the treason.

There is every likelihood that they were cursed. You know the curses of then are something else, that you can never joke with.

Good a thing you already know.
It has to be because your people live, breathe, eat and drink yorubas. If you do not have light - it must be yorubas, if you cannot do your manly duties to your wives - it must be yorubas, if you quarrel with your neighbour -- it must be yorubas; if you tell someone they are igbos and they refused -- it must be the fault of the yorubas too.

Yorubas must be next to God.

I totally agree with you that liberating ilorin would have proved futile for the Ibadan led legion at the time coz the ilorins themselves didn't exhibit any enthusiasm for their own liberation. They possibly would have fought on the side of the Fulas against the Yoruba army. But all that is now history.
they actually fought alongside the fulanis. The yorubas that were caught during the jalumi war were sent to Ibadan and beheaded in the public square for treason against the Empire.

Funny enough, the fulani Generals/War commandants were released, after massacring all their men.

1)ilorin comprises of 5 local govt (asa, moro, ilorin south, East and west) of all those local government you'll only see larger population of fulani in ilorin west, and what majority don't understand is that these people have been yorubanized, u can stay a whole year in ilorin west and you'll hardly see anyone speaking fulani, these people will call themselves fulani but cannot speak their language anymore, they eat amala like mad and even give themselves yoruba name(the emir included) u can ask anyone schooling in ilorin
2)aside from larger population of fulani from d west, the remaining 4 local govt are yoruba even majority of fulani in west can't speak their language

3)issue of emir of ilorin is not a shame ilorin people alone should face, it's a slap on yoruba race, afonja invited the fulani to fight for him after betraying Aladin and they almost finished oyo empire, from oyo Ile (no present on) ogbomoso etc but the Yoruba fought back and when the get to ilorin they stopped, tell my why, ilorin was very important to oyo empire back then(maybe you should get a copy of Rev Samuels history of yoruba)
Afonja house in ilorin till date don't see eye to eye, they hate each other like mad, late govn Lawal tried to install a yoruba king in ilorin but he failed because d emir had people backing him from feds
3)if Nigeria divided today, do you think ogbomoso will be d boundary between west and North? I think the boundary will be in kogi state
Yorubas fought back and decimated the fulani army. They never recovered from it. They were pursued from Ikirun down to gate of Ilorin.

History had it that, the Oluyole warriors did not enter into Ilorin because they believe most people in ilorin as at then have been islamised and it will be a futile effort fighting for them.

Ilorin people should make more effort to draw themselves into the mainstream yoruba agenda. Of course other yoruba speaking areas of Kawara eg Offa, Moro, etc are non-negotiable.

I believe the first step is for the yorubas in ilorin to demand for an Oba and subsequently install one, that will immediately pledge his allegiance to Alaafin. The politicking and propaganda will complete the rest of the full integration. They need wane themselves from the subtle programming those fulanis have successfully implanted into the minds of the ilorin people over the decades.
