CHAPTER 8

I became more obedient, caring and loving, I never wanted him to suspect I'm suspecting him. I was at work one afternoon when detective called me to meet with him at the Hospital I gave him the address. I left immediately, I saw him outside the hospital, the doctor denied vehemently ever seeing your name so I decided we should see him together. I entered first because I had told the detective to wait and eavesdrop our discussion before he enters.

"Doctor, I hope you still remember my face"

"very well madam, your husband was here when you were admitted because of your miscarriage" he said


"good, I'm glad you still do, what happened back then to my pregnancy"

"madam, you already know the answer because I mentioned something about miscarriage earlier, you miscarried the pregnancy"

"Maybe not doctor" I signaled on detective to come in by a knock on the table

"what's going on here" he asked with a look of terror.

"I have been to your office countless times and you've decided not to give me a pleasant reply so I think I'll have to do it the hard way.

"thanks detective" I said "what did you tell my husband that very day that you asked to see him in your office?"

"I summoned him to my office to explain things to him."

"Things like what" the detective asked

"how you miscarried your baby, the cause, the cure and the prevention when you are pregnant again"

"for your information Mr. I confronted my husband and he said you gave him a substance to add to my food on the note of Caring for the pregnancy and that he didn't know it will affect my pregnancy" I didn't know what pushed me to saying that, I never really confronted him. I'm just thirsty to know the truth about my situation. The detective himself was surprised at my outburst. "and at this rate if you still don't want to tell the truth your license is at risk"

"Madam please, I will explain how it all happened" he said.

"good we are all ears"

" your husband visited me some months ago with a deal that I couldn't refuse, the money involved was much and it was at a time when I was facing a monetary crisis. So I accepted the offer. He requested for an abortion pill that works slowly or that take about 4-5hrs before taking effect, I gave it to him and he gave me a cheque of 5million. He never told me he wanted to use it on his own wife. Part of the deal was that you should be brought here when it starts to take effect in your body system so that we can complete the process and my reason for calling him to my office that day was that I told him I didn't know the victim was his wife. He told me it was none of my business so I kept shut. Months after he came for another pill which I gave to him because money was also involved but I expected to see you again being rushed in but I didn't"


"they were right after all" I said to myself trying not to cry.

"don't you dare tell him of the new development because your hospital might be closed down for good" detective threatened

"no sir, I won't because I can bear to see my hospital closed down, but please keep my secret"

"we shall meet again soon" I said to him and walked out, detective followed suit.

"Omolola! Why are you doing this to me, have I ever wronged you in anyway?" Luisa asked her friend with tears in her eyes.

"you've done everything wrong dear, your life seems perfect and you'll be punished for that. Everything you want you get without stress, someone who love you that much. Soji had been in the hospital for 3days now because you've been missing for just 6weeks. You are liked by everybody around you and I envy that about you. Above all, fact remains that I'm jealous of you"

Luisa who was hearing incredible things about herself couldn't help but cry. Why was her life crumbling like that. Lola stopped giving her Lunch for a while as she was sobbing too.

Lola was already a graduate and has been sleeping in the same room with Luisa. Lola had lied to Becca that she needed to visit her Uncle who worked in Calabar before she traveled home but she moved in with the other abductors pending the time they'll be through with the operation. She doesn't want anybody suspecting her.

She baths her friend twice daily since she was already living with them.

Funke was in her room with the thoughts of what had happened the day she went to visit Soji. Soji suddenly was gasping for breath, she couldn't just stood and watch him, she hurriedly called the doctor and he's breath was supported.

" What is there about this girl, that's been making Soji this sick because he hasn't seen her in a while, well I can't just fold my hands and watch him die, I must do something"

Luisa was dressed like a ninja so that nobody will recognize her as she was taken to Soji's room.

"Soji please stay strong for me, you can't die Soji, I love you. You have to live" she said amidst sobbing.

She really needed to get out of that room, she was taken back to her abductors den. The incident that led to her visiting Soji replayed in her brain.

CHAPTER 11

"Could this be real" she asked herself "Omolola wanting my downfall, what could have been my offence that may have warranted such" Luisa couldn't think straight, the thought of Omolola being the enemy of her existence was difficult for her to imagine. She realized she could have a hand in her first kidnap too since the abductors were similar and she invited her to the party where she was kidnapped


The news of Luisa's kidnap spread like wild fire on campus, many pitied her while some wished she never appeared again. She wasn't even allowed to write her final exams.

It was on the day of her last paper some of her coursemates really believed she was kidnapped, she didn't write a single exam.

Before and during the time when exams were on, Lola visited her friend with food and clothes, she bath for her everyday and treated any bruises she may have had from the beatings that were given to her in her absence. Perhaps she still had a little bit of kindness for Luisa.

Nobody could suspect Lola had anything to do with Luisa's kidnap, she was helpful to them and at a time, people felt she was Luisa's real friend. Rebecca wrote her exams though not to the best of her ability, her concentration has been divided ever since her friend's disappearance.

Funke visited Soji
At the hospital, only God knew what the nature of his sickness was. Lola had told her the previous day that Soji was in the hospital, that was part of her role in the operation. She was to be an inside man, it was part of her strategy to seduce Soji. She wanted to make him hers at all cost.

" According to what my friend told me, John Adewale said he is a nigerian that lives abroad. They both met at the bank and their friendship started, no dating before he proposed to her. She was head over heels in love with him although the guy was good looking. Sooner than expected they were ready to get married, it was against her parents wish but she didn't care, even me I never supported the union but I couldn't just break her heart"

"this is getting more interesting" I said to her as I gesture at her to continue.

"my friend had several miscarriages that only God knew the cause. She entrusted her wealth into his hands but unfortunately he showed his true colour. One day we heard he had an accident and nothing was remained of him. She had no idea the damages he had caused not until after his death. She later realized her pregnancies wasn't really miscarried they were aborted by an unknown human being"


I saw some similarities in what I was facing and what that person had faced.

"what prompted you to discuss it with my friend?" I curiously asked her


"I saw bought roasted corn on my way from work one afternoon, I suddenly became interested in the paper that was used in wrapping the corn then I saw your wedding picture and the caption on it, your chief bridesmaid was in the picture too. I recognized John so well. My curiosity led me to showing the newspaper page to a colleague of mine at work, Luckily for me Mrs Jolayemi was his Coursemate back in the university and I got her number from the man"

"so you felt I needed to know? That's thoughtful of you, how do I meet that of friend of yours please?" I said with a smile.

"she isn't aware of this new development, I chose not to tell her because it could worsen her condition because ever since the worst happened she hasn't remain the same"

I thanked her and request to lodge her in an hotel that is if she wouldn't mind, there was more to this issue

Days passed and there was no news about Luisa, Mrs Williams couldn't believe her daughter is missing without a clue on how she could be found. At that stage prayer was the only help they could offer her.

Soji became the shadow of his real self, Sammy had to move in with him so that he wouldn't try to do something nasty out of frustration.

It was certain Luisa would have an extra year because 2nd semester exams was to start in a week time and she was still no where to be found. The thought of that was so disheartening to Rebecca.

Lola was assigned the role of Luisa's caretaker, "since she would be there for some time she can't be left alone to do somethings for herself as she may try to do anything stupid" so Lola was given enough money to shop for Luisa, things she could wear around there.

It was time for Luisa to find out who her friend really was. Lola was brought in to her as her personal care provider, she couldn't show her face to her friend that she had sold because of selfishness.

Luisa couldn't hide her bewilderment at the sight of someone whom she thinks was her best friend.
" Lola!!! Why are you here"she was shocked

"as you can see" a female voice interrupted. " your bestie doesn't even like you, anyways she will be the one to take care of you while you are here with me, she'ld be the responsible for your well being here and for your information, you better don't act funny because you will be amazed with the severity of your punishment"

Lola was speechless with her head dropped downwards, she just bleeped up big time.

"Lola! so it was you all this while"

She bravely looked straight into Luisa's eyes and told her all she just heard was true. "maybe I wasn't your real friend" she smiled wickedly

CHAPTER 7

"Maami!!! Aaaaaah!! There's fire on the mountain o" this as I said after greeting her

"stop talking in parables and tell me what is happening" my mom anxiously told me.

I explained to her what the doctor told me and how the enemy of my life was out there moving freely around, "I don't even know the person"

"first pregnancy lost, second pregnancy lost in the same mysterious way then someone is behind it" my mother mumbled

"my dear, when last did you eat outside your home?" mother asked

The question was a little funny but I managed to answer "ever since I got married mom, I haven't eaten anything outside my home. I cook what I eat myself"

"mama I think I should get a private investigator, I'm confused about a lot of things.

I was hooked down with many sleepless nights. Chuks became a strange man to me, like I never knew him before marriage. He couldn't account for the money that gone out of my company account. Getting a detective was indeed the best option.

I got a detective, I had wanted to tell chuks about it but I changed my mind and kept it secret from him, I gave no room for suspicion about me having followed. My mom was aware of my intentions and she supported all I did.

I gave Jolayemi a call and asked her about how authentic what she told me about Chuks was and that I needed the contact of the lady from Benue.

The dream I had while on the hospital bed, the dream my mom told me about started having similar meaning to me, I've been fooled. I got a call from the detective asking me of the name of the hospital I was taken to when I had my first miscarriage, I could remember the name of the hospital vividly so I gave him the name and the address.

I was able to get in touch with the Benue lady, I needed to meet her, so I did and got the most interesting and heartbreaking story ever.

My husband was giving me attitude. Ever since he came back from where ever he had gone to with the bruises he had on his face, he has chosen not to speak to me. So I decided to go ask him whatever he sees wrong that warrants his change in attitude towards me.

"honey you've been hostile towards me lately, if I've done anything to upset why can't you just tell me and I will apologize, we are one for goodness sake" I said holding unto his arms as I knelt before him.

He didn't even look at my side as he was whistling. I proceeded to telling him about my ordeal, how I lost my second pregnancy and was admitted to the hospital for 3weeks, how my mom and I called him without response that was when he showed a remorseful face and talked about how he got the bruises that got his arm and head bandaged, I felt sorry for him.

I noticed expenditures were higher than income in my company, I called on the manager to give me account of how things went in my absence but to my utmost surprise my husband was the one behind it according to my manager but I decided to let sleeping dogs lie.


I needed to know why Dr. Komolafe said I had an abortion, so I went to see him at his office. After so many pleasantries I decided to make him know the reason behind my visit to his office.

"I've been trying to process what you told me while I was on the hospital bed, but its been difficult for me to accept that I committed such a crime"

"actually Adeola, I knew it wasn't you, someone is behind all these and finding out who the person is the most important thing to do now"

I sighed "that means there is an enemy somewhere which I need to conquer" I bade him goodbye and went to my father's house, "I need to inform my mother" I thought.

CHAPTER 10


"please let me go, if its money please I will play, just spare my life and let me go back home" Luisa said to no one in particular, she has been blindfolded since the night she was brought there. She knew quite well that she's the only one in that room but she hoped someone would just here her plea.


Lola was contacted that her friend was missing she already knew who was behind it but she had to play along. They searched everywhere and police were even informed, they had no idea where she was taken to, no calls no messages from the kidnappers. Soji contacted her parents and his parents in the bid to find the love of his life.

"I need nothing from you my dear, I just need to get you off his brain and for that to happen you will need to stay a bit long here with your beauty being a thing of the past" a female voice said to her but she didn't recognize the voice. She could perceive the odor of cigarettes in the room where she was kept. If praying is the only thing to do she had no choice than to do so.

She wondered how hopeless her boyfriend and friends would have become, they would be tired of searching, its been 5days already. She thought of her parents, they would think she's in school not knowing she's in a lions' den. Whenever they Lola wanted to visit her they blindfold her so that she doesn't see her friend being her greatest enemy.

Sammy on his part didn't rest, everyone tried their best but their best seems little compared to their loved one's predicament.

CHAPTER 6


A week after my being at the hospital Chuks still didn't visit, I tried reaching him on phone all was to no avail, I had called my security guard on phone to ask if my Husband was home and that when last did he come home, he told me He hasn't been home since that very day I was rushed to the hospital. I became so worried, "what could have happened to my beloved husband" I took the anger of he not visiting me off my mind.


Dr Komolafe came to my ward one morning. He couldn't hide what he saw to himself again so he questioned me.

"Deola why did you do it?" he had a puzzled look.

"do what?"I asked because I had no idea what he was talking about.

"what happened to your first pregnancy?"

I was becoming more petrified, "I miscarried it" I told him with tears in my eyes.

"have you noticed anything in your body since you regained your consciousness, a lot is happening to you, frankly speaking my conscience
Doesn't take me hiding this things from you."

"I'm carrying a child in my womb" she said to him massaging her stomach.

"Luisa why did you abort your baby?"

I felt like the earth should just swallow me, "abortion is the last thing I will ever do in my life" sooner it dawned on me that the abortion arguments the previous week was really about her.

"Dr you know I can't do it, I need to give birth to my children so abortion is never an option, even if I had gotten pregnant outside wedlock I would not have abort it not to talk of when I have an husband....

"a husband who hasn't cared to come
See you here" he interrupted me.

"when will I be fit to go home?" she asked

"you are still under observation for now"

"when the right time comes you will be able to understand what you're going through but for your information you lost your second pregnancy" he told me as he left my ward.

I was back home 3 weeks after I had lost my second pregnancy though it was against my mother's wish, she wanted me to be around her. I still didn't meet chuks, I've stopped bothering about him but deep down I miss him.
He came back the next day with bandage on his head, on his harm, there were plasters on some part of his face too. I didn't even know what to do, I couldn't ask him questions because his face wasn't inviting. I resumed back to work immediately but I didn't meet something pleasant .

"could all the pointing fingers be right?"

CHAPTER 9


Things was smooth again for Luisa after the kidnap incident. The bond between her and her boyfriend grew so strong that nobody could come between them. He was done with NYSC and was back to that same school for his 2nd degree program while Luisa was in her final year. They had planned to get married when Luisa graduates. The friendship between Mrs Daniels (Soji's mom) and Mrs Williams (Luisa's mom) was rekindled and grew stronger by the love their children had for themselves.

The friendship of the three friends became more stronger, Lola stopped reacting to every little issue, the rate at which she gets upset reduced and nobody ever had the thought of Lola been chameleon among them.

Soji deleted everything pertaining to Luisa's first kidnap on his phone, the messages, the pictures and the phone numbers. He never for once made the mistake of letting it slip from his mouth all that happened in her absence and he had vowed not to ever mention it to her.

Luisa's tailoring business was growing, she had lots of customers. She goes to her shop everyday from school and comes back late in the evening. This didn't affect the way she performed in school. She had started the business when she resumed for her 300level, that was after her kidnap ordeal.

Luisa was coming from her shop one evening, she noticed a golf car was following her. She didn't know they were after her not until she go after her as she took a turning to a lone road that leads to her house. She tried accelerating her speed but it was too late as they crossed her. They got out of their car with pistols in their hands each, she was told to alight from her car and go into theirs. She dare not resist because they could put an end to her life right there without anybody coming to her rescue.

Soji had been calling her number for the past 2hours, "could she be busy" he thought. So he decided to let her be and to call her the following day.
He woke early to call her in the morning but it was still the same, no response. He dressed up and went to her house but to his surprise it was locked.

He dialed Becca's number, perhaps she slept there
but Becca said she hasn't seen her since the
previous day. " we have no class today I wonder
where is she right now" she told him.
"let's go check her shop" she suggested.
"okay I'll come pick you up so we'll go together"
Soji canceled all appointment for that. He went to
pick Becca and they headed to her shop.
Unfortunately they didn't meet her there. Their
fear was staring at them in the face. Soji drove
back home. Instead of him going through the route
to his house Becca suggested they went through
the other route. They met the shock of their life.
Becca noticed first that it was Luisa's car that was
parked by the roadside. They both alighted from
the vehicle and moved towards the car, Luisa's
phone was in there but she was no where to be
found, that was when they realized the worst had
happened.
