CHAPTER 5

Not that I was awake when I heard those words, I was Still very much unconscious. Sooner I drifted away in sleep and didn't hear anything more. I traveled into dreamland where I saw myself holding a pitcher filled with water, suddenly a man appeared from no where and snatched the pitcher from my hand, he emptied the water and laughed wickedly. I don't know who the man was neither did I knew where he came from. I saw a baby flew outside my body, far away to where I know not. I shouted and called upon the baby to come back. The man was about breaking the pitcher when I started shouting "my pitcher, my baby" then I woke up, my vision was blur but I new somebody ran out of the room and came in with a man in white.
"where am I? What am I doing here? Where is my husband?" these were my questions. My mom was in tears, she was holding my hand.

"calm down Ade, you were rushed here yesterday afternoon and you've been unconscious since then, we here are all grateful to God for giving you another chance to live" I could recognize Dr. Komolafe's voice but could not see his face.

"my daughter, your husband hasn't visited since you were admitted, I called his line several times but he wasn't responding, please just get well soon, I've informed your brothers about your condition, Jolayemi said she's on her way here. We all care for you and love you"

I could remember I heard them talking about abortion, but who is the murderer who committed abortion when there are lots of people in need of it. I decided to ask my mother

"Mama Ade, who was doctor Komolafe discussing an abortion issue with earlier" I could see the Shock in her face. "were you?"


"don't mind the girl jare Oko mi, she came here for abortion not knowing this hospital doesn't do such" I knew it whenever my mom was lying and it was obvious she lied to about what she just said.

"get well soon for me Ade, you can't just leave me alone in this cruel world" she started crying

"what is wrong with me, why am I here"

"you passed out my dear" wiping her tears with hankie. "you screamed from your sleep, what did you see in your dream" she asked me.

CHAPTER 4

After mama Adeola had left that day, I started replaying all that Jolayemi had told me some days before my admission at the hospital and wondering could she be saying the truth.

Jolayemi said things about my husband trying to cover his tracks and though it was an insult on my personality I urged her to continue. She told me someone contacted her from Benue state and said they needed to talk and she gave the person a listening hear. When she realized its not something that can be said on phone she paid her transport fare to come meet her in Lagos where she resides. The person said she knew Chuks though not by that name, he had a different name then and he is dead. He died in an accident 3years back. The name he had was John Adewale, a yoruba name and that made him a yoruba. Jolayemi further told me that she told the person she will be contacted later and that was how she discharged her back to Benue. I got upset at some point, I was angry at her that she could go on gossiping with people behind my back, I felt like she betrayed me, we stopped talking but when I was on the hospital bed she called to apologize to me and I apologized too.
I didn't bother to tell Chuks about my mom's visit.


Months after my miscarriage, I wanted to get pregnant again and I vowed to guard the pregnancy with all my strength. I told my husband but he was against it, even during coitus, he preferred not pouring inside of me saying its for my safety. After much pleas, he agreed to my mothering his kids and at the 13th month of our marriage God blessed me with the fruit of the womb again, I tried to avoid many things especially stress and my loving husband didn't forsake me, he helped with my office works.

I took a nap one afternoon and I felt what I had felt during my first pregnancy, Chuks wasn't home so I didn't bother calling him, I called my mother and Dr. Komolafe, the pain wasn't severe yet. My mom got to my house in no time and saw blood dripping down from my thighs. "Maami it has happened again" was all I could mutter.

I was rushed to the hospital and this time My family doctor's hospital.

"she took abortion pills" I heard voices, they were like arguing but the voices were faint.

CHAPTER 8

2days after her disappearance, the police interrogated Lola since she was a witness but her contributions was of no use. Soji became worried he couldn't sleep, he was trying all his best and Sammy didn't leave him be, they were both into the search. His message tune beeped, he clicked the message and got the shock of his life, it was Luisa's nude, she was blindfolded in the 5 pictures that was sent to him, pictures' background was blur so he couldn't guess where it could be. His heart shattered his heart was bleeding for his girlfriends condition. Shortly after, another message came in and it read thus "IS THIS NOT YOUR GIRLFRIEND? tsk tsk, she isn't the saint you think she is. You can go pick her up at the address I will send to you" Soji dialed the number but it was switched off. Later that night he got another message from a different number but he was sure it was from the first sender. It was the address and the time he will meet his girlfriend.

Lola who had bruises on some part of her body, was in her room when she got a message from her strange friend "Sorry for the Bruises, it was one of my strategy to confuse the Police from investigating you". She didn't know where exactly Luisa was taken to but she hoped she's okay. Becca hasn't left her side ever since she knew one of her friends had been kidnapped, she didn't know who was next.

Luisa's phone had been with Soji since the day of the incident. He went through the phone to know if she was being threatened before the kidnap occurred but there was nothing like that. He was driving towards the address given to him by the kidnappers, he didn't inform the police this time because he feared his girlfriend's private body maybe viewed by them. As he approached the address he saw a figure lying lifeless by the road side, he pulled over immediately. It was Luisa, she was in her undergarments only. He took off his shirt to cover her as he drove straight to the hospital for treatment...

Soji didn't mention a thing about the message he got from the kidnappers because he knew she will feel bad and worst. He sent a message to Becca that she had been found but can't see anybody yet. After her full recovery, she knew she had nothing left to do in school and that she'll gladly go use the 2months break at home with her family. Soji understood her plight and didn't counter her opinion.

When the doctor knew I was stable enough, he came to tell me the evil that had befell my unborn baby. I was told I miscarried the pregnancy, I felt devastated and couldn't believe that was happening to me. He further told me I would have to stay at the hospital for some weeks, I became scared. "I'm fine now, I can go home" I told him but he objected and told me my husband insisted I get well before being discharged. My husband had gone out to get me something to eat because I only took tea in the morning before I left for work.
Several unanswered questions were running in my head. Questions like why did my husband have to bring me to a strange hospital where I'm not used to, why did the miscarriage occur etc. Questions that nobody was around to give me answers. I thought of calling my mother but I know she wouldn't like such news so I gave up and stared at the ceiling as I was lying helplessly in the ward. Then my company and businesses came to mind, "perhaps he will oversee things there for me till I get back to my feet after all he's my husband" I thought.

My husband didn't come back not until late in the night, I was hungry there was nothing I could eat. I became upset and demanded for an explanation, he flared up too and all I could do was apologize to the person who has been by my side. I lost my appetite and wasn't able to eat more than 3spoons. He fed me another 3spoons and that makes it 6spoons. I decided to direct my questions to him.

"sweetheart why this strange hospital, why didn't you drive me to Dr. Komolafe's hospital"

"it was an emergency and this place was nearer"

"what happened to our baby?" I asked on the verge of tears

"don't cry my love, the Lord who did that will do another one for us"

"so its true" I was sobbing, I started crying afresh... "will I be able to conceive again?" I asked no one in particular.

I shared my opinion of him working on my behalf at my office pending the time I'll get well, he was reluctant but after so many persuasion he gave in. I invited my Manager and Secretary to the hospital so that they would know of my new decision and cooperate with him.

I was fit to go back to my place of work a month after the incidence. I couldn't face Maami because I knew she will question me and I don't wish to talk about it. I haven't gotten the chance to see Jolayemi ever since she told me we had something urgent to talk about so I created time for us out of my tight schedule. We chose somewhere secluded for our discussion.

Maami visited me on a Saturday, my husband was not around so she took her time to feed her curious mind. She noticed I'm back to my normal self(when I wasn't pregnant) she knew something was wrong somewhere.

"my dear come closer"she said almost in a whisper. "where is it, where did it go, how did you do it, why did you not tell me, what really happened...."

I didn't let her finished her questions before I replied though it sounded rude but the questions were too much for me. Her face became so mean and I knew at that moment I must spill everything so I explained to her how everything happened.

"Adeola ti pa mi o(Adeola has killed me) what have I done to deserve this, you mean you and your husband kept such a big secret from me? Am I not your mother again" with that she picked her bag and angrily left our house, I pleaded but she refused to listen to any other thing from me.

Instead of telling him to drop her at her apartment Luisa felt she needed to sort things out with him before going to her place so that she will have a rest of mind.


"Soji, don't bother going to my place I will stay at your house for tonight"
He still didn't say anything.

"I've apologized severally so you still want to punish me this way? I get it, if this is how the relationship will continue to be then I may not be able to continue"

He looked at her face on hearing that statement. Soji was about opening the door to the house when Luisa held his hand. He looked back at her and he could see he had gone to far with the anger.

"I'm sorry Jewel, I was just disturbed seeing you having trust issues with me" he said giving her a hug. "I don't want you to leave me because of such a trivial issue.

Lola invited Luisa and Becca to a party of someone she knew, at first they were against the opinion but later concurred to make their friend happy. She told them the party was fixed for Friday. Luisa who was already contemplating on going home or spending half of her holiday in school changed her mind instantly. Since their break will be 2months, she will be in school for a month and the other 1month will be used at home. Her staying in school wouldn't be boring became Soji will be there and also her two friends.


Luisa who had been sitting at the beginning of the party felt pressed and needed to go to the toilet so she excused herself while Becca watched her phone and drink. Lola was no where to be found the last time they saw her was when they had arrived the party. Luisa was about to enter the rest room when she felt two hefty man seized her from behind. Lola appeared from no where and started shouting and calling out her name, she was coming towards the two hefty guys with a big metallic rod in her hand. The party was so noisy that nobody noticed what was going on. One of them forcefully collected the stick from her hand and hit her with it 3times she fell and couldn't move. Luisa herself was trying to escape so that she could help her friend but it was too late for her as her nose and mouth were covered with a drugged handkerchief.


Becca who was becoming worried from waiting for Luisa who went to the rest room 20minutes ago went to check if she was still there but she met Lola lying on the floor with bloodstain on her face, she went to her and asked what happened.

"Luisa has been kidnapped" she said faintly

"kidnapped? By who?? When?? Where?? What do they want from her?"

" I was trying to rescue her when they attacked me"

Becca picked her phone, put a call across to Soji to tell him what has happened, he came with the police but the party had ended some minutes after the call. "Lola needs to be taken to the hospital, let's do that first" Soji suggested

"she may have something to tell us about the kidnappers"one of the police men added.

"you are pregnant Ade" doctor Komolafe said with happiness written all over his face.

I already guessed so, so it didn't really come as a surprise but I was indeed happy. I dialed my husband's number but dropped it before the call got to his phone because I wanted it to be a surprise to him. I called my mother to break the news she had be eagerly waiting for to her. I was so happy that I didn't go to office that day I only requested that the report for the day's work should be sent to my email.

My husband came earlier than I thought and I handed the result to him. The happiness I saw all over him was far from fake. He increased his care towards me that I counted myself the luckiest to have such an amazing man.

One Saturday, Jolayemi called to tell me there's an important issue we needed to discuss I didn't take it serious but said I will find chance to see her the following week.

I was in the office one morning when I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, it became so severe that I couldn't bear the pain. I told my secretary to call my husband and that it was emergency, I didn't want to go the hospital not until he is there with me. I had already lost consciousness before he came around, blood was everywhere. I opened my eyes but couldn't see clearly, my vision was blur, Chuks was by my side. "what am I doing here" I asked my husband with the little strength I have.

"honey, you don't have to say anything"

The doctor came in and his look was not pleasant at all. I managed to ask him how long did I pass out. He told me 6hours. That was when I remembered how it all happened, sharp pain in my stomach, I saw blood but didn't know why before I passed out. perhaps the secretary called my husband as I instructed her.

"Mr chuks let me see you in my office" doctor told my husband.

CHAPTER 3

I gave my innocence to him. 3months after my wedding, everything was going perfectly well, my business was booming. Initially Chuks told me he is into importation business and we both work for the betterment of our new home.
One day mom called me to come see her so I closed early from office that day and went to my father's house, she looked at me from head to toe and I was wondering what my mother could be staring at in my body. She finally told me to sit.


"Oko mi(my dear) I haven't seen any sign of pregnancy yet, what is your husband saying about it"

"maami, our marriage is just four months old, God will soon do it for us"

"I pray so my daughter, I asked you to see me because I had a strange dream last night and I must let you know about it"

"Mommy mi, I'm getting scared right now. Tell me, what is the dream about"

"in that dream, you were in a dark room and nobody was there to help you, the only person that came was a man who has a snake as pet. You were so anxious to get out of the dark room so you accepted his help"

"Hmmmm mama, that's just a dream and nothing more"
"I also want to believe is a dream o Oko mi (my dear) mi o ni fi oju sukun e(I won't cry over you)" my mother said with a teary eye.

I went to her, consoled her I hate seeing her sad and her health is important. Its been long I cooked for her so I went into the kitchen to prepare Amala, gbegiri, ewedu and assorted meats for her. I left when it was evening so that I can go cook for my husband, he doesn't come back until 6pm so I still have about 2hours to go home and prepare dinner.

I noticed some changes in my body, my breast size increased, morning sickness and nausea. Its been like that for the past 3weeks so I called my Dr. on phone to book an appointment with him that day.

CHAPTER 7

We took off on Sunday morning, going back to school, she really did wish the weekend was longer because she enjoyed every bit of her stay with Soji's family. They were so homely to her and at some point in time she saw her mother in Mrs Daniels. Soji was not around all through but the three beauties in the house didn't make her stay boring. Mrs Daniels, Toluwanimi Daniels and Tomilola Daniels are the three beauties in that household, they are beauty personified.
She asked for her name, her background and every important things a parent in-law should know about their daughter-in-law, through that they got talking and Mrs Daniels realized that Luisa's Mother was her classmate in secondary school. "This world in which we live in is such a small one" she exclaimed. She even went ahead to tell her the reasons why she and her husband insisted that Soji bring home whoever he is dating. Luisa couldn't stop admiring the beauty of the Mansion Soji's parents live in. Mrs Daniel on the other hand was happy to meet her long lost friend's daughter again especially the part that she will be her daughter-in-law soon. She requested for her friend's number but Luisa feared giving it to her because she didn't inform them she was traveling to her boyfriend's home, the elderly woman understood and told her not to worry about what she would tell her and that she's wise enough to understand her plight. Luisa then gave the number to her.

Soji couldn't believe her Mom and girlfriend could bond so much without him introducing them to eachother, he knew deep within him that he had made the best choice ever. He hasn't stayed home that much since they reached Abuja, he had to face whatsoever Senator had invited him home for.

Toluwanimi and Tomilola 22years, 19years respectively were so much overwhelmed with joy on seeing the beauty their big brother had brought home. They were not home were Luisa arrived, they came 2days after but made the most of the little time they were able to spend together, they went on shopping, sight seeing, they visited interesting places together and the ladies couldn't stop introducing luisa as their brother's fiancé.


Soji realized Luisa's silence since they left Abuja and broke it.

"any problem? You've been silent for the past 2hours" he said tapping her thigh as he focused on the road.
That was when Luisa realized she had being in thoughts since they took off. She managed to mutter "I'm fine"

"don't you like them? My parents"

"I love them so much and even your sisters, I didn't feel I was new among them, just that I didn't get to see much of Senator, I only saw and greeted him once before he travelled on Friday night"

"I already told you he would be traveling and that was the more reason he insisted we come on Thursday"

All of a sudden, Soji's smiling face turned to a frowning face and Luisa was wondering what suddenly went wrong.

"Luisa do you know me at all?" the question came as a shock to her
"yes I do"

"do you have an atom of trust for me?"
Now she's becoming worried

"soji why this strange behavior, of course I trust you, if not I wouldn't be with you on this journey in the first place"

"no you don't"he said "because if you do you wouldn't have been restless sleeping by my side on Wednesday night, I saw everything, you didn't slept until past midnight which I knew that wasn't the time you sleep"

She didn't know he saw her and could even read her thoughts. "I'm sorry Soji I was just scared of temptation"

"and that is why I know you don't trust me, I would never touch you without your wish and having sex with you while we are dating is the least of what I have in mind for you, can't you just trust me for once?" there was hurt in his eyes.

Luisa couldn't utter a word, she was happy and sad at the same time. Happy because her boyfriend wasn't after her body and sad because she could see hurt in his eyes.

"Soji, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way but I am sorry"


The rest of their journey was in silence not even a word from any of them, Soji was speaking to her neither did he look at her side. Luisa was ashamed because her thoughts were wild.

Lola reached for her phone to read the message that had scared her off her friends' presence. "THANKS FOR THE INFO, I'LL BEGiN MY PLANNING FOR THE OPERATION" she already knew who the message was from and the information she was talking about. She couldn't stop blaming herself for telling her Luisa's plan of going to meet Soji's parents. "now I can't back out" she said. She knew she had to continue dancing to her tune because she could see how desperate she was and what she can do to anyone who may want come in way of her operation.

Luisa who was sure of her traveling with Soji chose to use that Wednesday to make some new dresses for herself since its part of the skills she had acquired before gaining admission into her school.

Mrs Folorunsho Williams (Luisa's mother) though a business woman is a trained fashion designer with her own fashion school. She had taken her time to make sure Luisa and her siblings became a professional fashion designer. The reason being that she wants them to be independent in future or any situation they may find themselves. Luisa on the other hand had decided to take her handiwork to another level when she resumes for her 3rd year.


After an hectic day of sewing, Soji's call gave her a break from her sewing machine. He called to announce to her that his being the latest graduate calls for celebration and that he wants to silently celebrate the day with her. He sensed the reluctancy in her response and so he told her to come with the things she would need to take along for the weekend. She suggested he picked her when he's going home.

Soji came as he had promised her to pick her up, it was late in the evening before he arrived so he helped Luisa carried the bag she had put the few things she needed for the weekend. The drive to Soji's house was awesome because he was happy and couldn't hide it. A new graduate of his favorite course.

It was already dark when they got home and they were famished.

"you have not cared to congratulate me" he said
"but I said that on phone earlier"

"it was acceptable because I haven't see you then, so now do the needful" he instructed.

She stood to hug him and whisper congratulations to his ears. He chuckled as he reminded her of the part that they were both hungry. Dinner was ready in 30minutes, it was spaghetti, chicken and a bottle of wine.
After the meal, Luisa headed to the guest room soji who couldn't accept that went to the guest room to collect her things and took the things to his own room upstairs. He carried her upstairs and made it clear to her that she should not be scared to be in that room and he if she wants her privacy, he won't disturb.

Luisa couldn't bring herself to sleep together in the same room with Soji because she feared temptation but in other to not make her restlessness obvious to Him, she lied down on her side backing Soji who had noticed she's scared. She didn't sleep until later in the night when she was later carried away by sleep.

I needed water, I started sweating profusely inside a full AC restaurant, I gulped down the cup of champagne before me, I still needed the water. The waiter who was still standing there watching left and came back with a bottled water and cup, I didn't use the cup I drank till my stomach made sounds. Was I dreaming? Chuks was observing, he knew I was not myself so he allowed me to cool down and repeated himself

"YES, YES, YES I will" I screamed for joy not minding I was attracting attentions

He swept me off my feet and gave me a kiss that I couldn't resist."If I'm dreaming please just wake me" I said. He kissed my lips and told me its real.

I was so overwhelmed that my dream had finally came true. my mother was to come back that weekend and I finally had the nerves to tell her her prayers had been answered, I didn't bother to call her. I had wanted to call Jolayemi, my childhood friend to tell her about my new status but I know she wouldn't be impressed because I have suffered a lot in the hands of men but I finally summoned the courage to the call her because I couldn't bare to hide things from her. Contrary to my thoughts she was happier than I was and wished me so well. She had been out of the country with her family on a vacation and was to come back in a week time.

I became the latest talk on Magazines and newspaper. My brothers called to congratulate me. What more could I ask for. I proposed to meet his family, they were nice set of people loving and caring, all I felt was that I was in the right place.

Mama Adeola's joy knew no bound, my introduction and Engagement came up the same day, a month after the proposal and my white wedding came up a month after the Engagement. I had pleaded with my mother and my fiancé to make the wedding a private affair. My mother and Brothers were present, my eldest brother didn't let me feel the absence of dad. Jolayemi was my Chief bridesmaid at the registry.
Everything happened so fast and I had a feeling that my Joy is complete until reality dawned on me.

CHAPTER 2

I sat down at my mini-bar sipping wine from a cup and thinking about Chuks. To me, everything seemed perfect about him, I started developing feelings for him ever since he told me about himself. Chuks was indeed down to earth, he seem to have everything I crave for in a guy, handsome, fair, modest, caring and respects me and infact he is man enough because he doesn't allow my wealth to intimidate him. He visited my house 4 times in those 5months of our friendship. So I sat down imagining what a future with him will be like, having my kids for him. I haven't felt this way in a long time but I can't bring myself to tell him about my feelings(trynna protect my ego).
Chuks decided to mark 6months of our friendship. I chose one of my restaurants for the event. The day came real faster than I had anticipated. I went for a simple a yellow sleeveless long dinner gown, a black ankle strap shoe and a small black channel purse, checked myself out in the mirror and I was satisfied with what I saw. The yellow gown really complemented my chocolate skin colour. Even though my dress was simple I made sure he would not resist me.
What I met made me speechless. A cake was delivered to our table, and our orders were taken unknown to me that he had got everything covered. After so much chitchat we both cut the cake, he gave me a portion and I was about using my cutlery when I felt something metallic is in the cake. With anger I called on the waiter who brought the cake and started ranting, chuks was just looking at me. I wanted to flare up but I calmed down when I felt his touch on my hands.

"Adeola, will you make me the happiest man by becoming my wife and the mother of my kids?"
