EducationRe: Nigeria National Anthem (Old In Use: 1960-1978) by sweeriie(f): 6:23am On Apr 06, 2009
oh wow, i LOVE this anthem! i didnt exist wen it was still being sung- its wayyyy older than me- but i made my dad teach me a few years back,  i even find myself singin it atimes sef, hehe.

Nigeria, we hail thee. . .  smiley smiley smiley

the composer doesnt matter. . . its all about the lyrics. from the first lines alone,  Nigeria we hail thee gives a sense of patriotism. . . makes you swell with pride that you're Nigerian. Arise, o compatriots sounds like a call for battle. perhaps, corruption was relatively low during that era because the anthem taught them to put their beloved country before themselves (Nigeria was the very first word!). . . leaders ruled out of love for their country, not for personal gain.  Arise, o compatriots puts the citizen first. . . perhaps this accounts for the selfishness reflected all around us today.

CultureRe: What Do You Hate About Your Culture? by sweeriie(f): 9:39pm On Apr 02, 2009
hehe. . . i've learnt quite a bit from this thread.
all this talk about male superiority; i thot ibo men loved having daughters cuz its automatic wealth for them- bride price!  wink
n all those things widows go thru- drinkin the corpse' bath water, being passed on and bullied by relatives, getting no share of the inheritance- are they really practiced? cuz i've only seen it in nollywood movies/read about it in jr.sec.skool literature- n those r not exactly accurate sources.

i cant say i hate anythin about my culture cuz i have not experienced anythin negative: not the tribal marks (my father spent his childhood in the village n doesnt have either), not the polygamy (my grandfather was a polygamist, but only cuz he was muslim. my dad definitely isnt.), definitely not the kneeling down or prostrating- there's no surer sign of respect. i overheard one man sayin he wouldnt teach his son to prostrate to him or evn call him sir; he'd rather hear "hi, dad" as the first thing from his son's mouth early in the morning. . . u might as well permit him to shut you up or call you stupid- afterall, we're aping the white ones now, arent we?

from wat i saw around me while growin up, yoruba women are not considered inferior or looked down upon- they work hand in hand with the males, and are schooled- at least my grandmother was, and we're talkin early 1900s. their husbands respect and sometimes ask for their opinions, and they are generally valued.

like i said, it's what i saw around me. . . may not necessarily be true for all yoruba tribes.

besides, y are all these naturalists saying that hair extensions r made from dead people's hair? i dunno how they make it back home (probably horse tail), but here, living women either donate or sell their hair to the extension makers. manufactured under the sea by mammy-waters makes a better story. . lol
FashionRe: Wigs, Weaves And Perms Symbolize Self Hate by sweeriie(f): 7:30am On Nov 26, 2008
Where does it say so in your bible?

The number 6 and 9 are like the ying and yang cosmic forces, positive and negative. 9 is positive/yang while 6 is negative/ying. Intuitively you can see that 6 is an inverted 9 signifing a flip of energy and essence and when they are brought together you get 69 which is the snake eating its tail or the cycle of eternal rebirth.
i hear you. forget Christian numerology. . . lets concentrate on astrology. that many nubians dont meddle with astrology doesnt mean u shld twist information to suit ur point of view. first you mixed astrology with Christianity, now u're mixing astrology with taoism? i dunno where u got that "9 is positive/yang while 6 is negative/ying". cld u please send the link? lol, u probably just looked at the symbol n decided that it was a circle with 6 and 9 in it grin but even if u do that, 9 is the dark part, and not 6. plus, its more like 6 and 9 flipped horizontally.

from the little i kno, yin (ying is a common error) is associated with darkness, birth, feminity. yang, of course is the opposite. i have never read anywhere that 6 is yin, or that yin is negative. if u say so, u'd be saying all females are agents of darkness (wont be surprised if that's at the tip of ur tongue already). please do ur research well. . . i'm afraid that point holds no water.

now, back to astrology (undiluted). look up that link i sent u. it has the explanations of astrological numerology. n u'd see that 6 is indeed perfect.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Numerology-and-the-Meaning-of-Numbers&id=403311
need more??
(gawd, i cant believe i'm actually educating u in ur art!)

as an aside, u reject the "white man's God" yet u meddle in astrology, a predominantly eastern tradition? n please dont start that ur ancestors too knew about all the heavens and blah, i'm pretty sure they never meddled with "energies" or "essence" or "cosmic forces". theirs was pure witchcraft- how to use the heavens to ruin people's destinies. even astrologers acknowledge the "white man's God". so y r u deceiving urself??

"I have evolved passed the phase of institutionalized superstition disguised as religion". indeed.
plus u shld kno, Christianity isnt a religion, but a way of life.

fayahsoul:
Hey there Mrs. thing, your bible says: "Ye are Gods", see john 10:34.

-The negus(pharoahs) were considered gods in flesh.

-Oduduwa was considered a god in flesh.

-Eri (founder of Nri) was considered god in flesh who descended from deep space.

-gods do reincanate in flesh.

Don't you know that hue-mans are more powerful than many spirit beings.

-Did your bible not say that angels are our servants?
first off, the name is sweeriie, not Mrs thing. n i'm not married.

yes. ur ancestors made their rulers gods. they did not claim they were all gods and goddesses. only a select few were elevated to god status.

fayahsoul:
9 does symbolize completion that's why when you add any single digit to 9 and reduce the result to a single digit you will get that same digit:

e.g  9 + 7 = 16,    1  +  6 =  7.

what is complete does not cause disturbance or imbalance.

8 symbolizes the retribution or karma that must be served before completion can be attained.

And the planetary and celestial bodies does have a significant effect on terra/earth and its inhabitants in every way; be it spiritually, emotinally and physically, whether you like it or not and regardless of what your bible says.

So deal with it.  Mrs. thing.
i didnt dispute that 9 signifies completeness in occult/astrology. i am pointing out, however, that in the same astrology (which u seem to be very versed in), 6 symbolises perfection. which, last time i checked, is a good thing. look it up yourself, king nubia http://numerology-astrology.com/spirit/num_meanings.html. in Christian numerology however, 6 and 9 are negative numbers.

according to you, we shldnt mess up the 9s of our hair and turn em to 6s (implying 6 is negative, right?) isnt that like mixing ur astrological beliefs with Christian numerology??

if u are goin 2 mess up our heads with cosmic blah, at least be a little accurate.

p.s: "my" Bible is the real thing. funny how that chart refers to Christianity. n its meant to be occultic o. tongue

besides, dont u think that's "unnatural"? considering how ur forefathers had their numerous gods to worship, n never elevated themselves to "god" status. if u're goin to be traditionally african oops, sorry! nubian, please be thorough.
FashionRe: Wigs, Weaves And Perms Symbolize Self Hate by sweeriie(f): 3:13pm On Nov 25, 2008
fayahsoul:
-Your hair is your natural divine crown,

-It is unique,

-It is the one true way that can be used to discern a full blooded nubian king and queen from other groups,

-It is curly because it follows the rhythm of natural divine motion which spirals or cycles,

-Everything in nature moves in cycles and spirals; from planetary and galactic orbits to seasons to electronic orbitals,

-The nubian is naturally in tune with the cosmic rhythm thats why our hair has a 9 ether structure. It spirals out of its roots and coils like a 9,

-Those familiar with numerology know that 9 is the number of completion, wholeness.

-Straight hair on the other hand, is a 6 ether(?), given that it comes out of its root straight as a result of disturbance, an inherent rythm that is not nsync with divine order, The antithesis of blackness.

-When you sistas alter your divine crown, the 9 ether structure of your hair, you automatically get demoted from your royal status of goddesshood due to lack of oneness with, and disconnection from, the natural cosmic rhythm.

-Your perms/weaves/wigs are also a brand of ownership by your colonial master just like a rancher brands his cows.

-You need to overstand that your hair are not just cylindrical keratinous filaments growing out of your skin/scalp that can be handle any how. Your hair serves a deep spiritual purpose and it is required for transcendental spiritual evolution. It is a thing of honour and dignity.

-They(as well as your beautiful melanited skin) serve as antennas that pick up divine cosmic messages from the great central sun, sirius B. These cosmic messages, or life force, guides the reciever towards a more comprehensive overstanding of the purpose of life and the matrix.

My sistas free yourselves from the shackles of ignorance and vanity and take a bold step into goddesshood which is your rigthful place.
in Christianity, 8 and not 9 symbolizes completeness and wholeness, and 9 (as well as 6) is rather satanic. but since u've chosen the astrologic path, u shld kno that 6 is considered the perfect number (which kills ur argument. . .  surely we would want to be perfect?) however, all this is against what i believe in. all these cosmic blahs are just plain occultic.
