If you are buying a new car, then you may want to know that most 4 cylinder engines of today, with the help of high presure turbo, deliver thesame (if not more) power as their 6 cylinder counterpart. Whatmore, performance is high, better fuel economy and very importantly, emission is by far lower. |
Let's face it, USD 350m/month on fuel subsidy is unsustainable in the long run. Here in Europe, a liter of petrol cost as much as EUR 1.74, about 60% of that sum is tax. Meanwhile, car owners still have to pay road tax, which goes from a couple of hundred to thousands euro, depending on the country. Moreover, the public transportation is not any cheaper, a bus ride of less than km cost as much as EUR 2.00 in sum countries. However, most people in Europe still earn less than EUR1500.00/month. If Nigerians are really serious about, developing infrastructure, they have to be ready to pay for it, good things don't come cheap. |
@ all, who are these "men of God" anyway. Who made them "men of God". Nigerians should better go back to their roots, back to our ancestorial believes. Stop these nonsense; this Christian/muslim thing. We are Africans and not Arabs or Europeans. We are brothers and sisters, we are one. Religion will only continue to divide us. |
Sagamite:Nigerians often complain about bad and corrupt leadership, yet when it come to holding these looters responsible for their actions while in power, they end up making excuses for them. Sometimes even willing to kill or be killed for them. These looter are worse than the common thief and armed robbers we so hate. To me a man who used his office to shield criminals from prosecution, knowingly disobey the law of the land which he, by theway, swore on the Holy Quran to uphold, nearly plunged Nigeria into another round of needless political and, therefore, economic crisis, To me such a man does not deserve any "rest". Use your heads folks and you'll see how quickly we'll be out of the woods and start climbing the ladder of development. |
@ Kabikala, thanks for saying the truth. @ Sagamite, according to them, progress is unAfrican. Any the late president found himself in a situation way beyond his control. I hope we learn from this lesson. |
Another Rwanda/Afghanistan in the making. |
With this piece of info, Buhari and his fellow terrorist must now be held responsible for the terror unleached on fellow Nigerians. Buhari from the onset was not out to win, cos' he knew GEJ was unbeatable, all he wanted was to create enough confusion to make the country ungovernable for GEJ. Well, he has failed woefully and guess what, no Hausa/Fulani will govern Nigeria in forseeable future. |
@poster, your post is very insulting and insensitve, you need to urgently withdraw it and apologise to nairalanders. One thing though, is that no Hausa/Fulani politician will be elected president in the near future, you've just succeeded in making yourselves politically irrelevant. |
The real loser in this whole unfortunate saga is probably Sambo. This guy lost his home and more importantly, the MB, SE, SS and SW may NOT want to vote for a Fulani/Hausa politician in the near future. |
@Sweetnecta, these people have no idea what Islam or being a muslim is about, infact they are not muslims but an uneducated bunch of anarchists wanting to pull the whole country back to the dark ages where they belong. |
FYI, THISDAY declares GEJ winner of the presidential election. Nigerians must now come together to help him move the country forward. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria! |
Kobojunkie: |
It reminds of the 80's and 90's when Hausa became the lingua franca of Nigeria. Can that be a hint of what he intend to do when he gets to Aso Rock? |
Forget AU, who are they anyway? Gadaffi has overstayed, he and his fellow clowns should go and leave the Libyan people in peace. |
Forget AU, who are they anyway? |
MeGaStReEt:At least they are trying to do something about rigging. You can be a part the change too, don't just sit there and complain. |
What wrong about importing used cars? In the true sence of it there should be no age limit on car imported into the country, what government should do is to set up technical inspection stations where, cars imported are inspected for road worthiness before there are allowed onto public roads. In western Europe where I live, most people don't buy new cars, simply because they cannot afford them. Like someone said earlier, even if they completely banned, they will still find their way into the country and Nigeria will be loosing billions of naira in tax revenue. Mr. Jonathan knows this and it's a smart move on his part. I say; Let the policy stay. |
Happy Birthday, baba. |

You are being very reasonable here. The catch is that a man of his standing is doing such a thing. It is just like a Rev. father in his cassock defacing Buhari's campaign posters.I agree with you, taking to Abuja may be too much but, there may be more to it. |
U de vex?:Exactly. |
Guys, let be serious. My question is why should an iman, a pastor, a reverend or a babalawo go out to deface a campaign posters, given the frequent reports of bombing in the country? I believe the police have every right to arrest and investigate his motives. GEJ or not this man may be involved in more than just defacing campaign posters. |
3 March 2011 Last updated at 16:13 GMT Share this pageFacebookTwitter ShareEmail Print Nigeria: Deadly explosion at rally near Abuja There has been an explosion at a political meeting near the Nigerian capital Abuja, killing several people, police say. The blast happened during a rally in Suleja, about 40km (24 miles) from Abuja, officials say. The cause of the blast is not yet known and police are investigating. National elections are due in April. Central Nigeria has seen a recent upsurge in violence between rival ethnic, religious and political groups. Reports on the death toll from Thursday's blast vary, with some saying three people died and others up to six. At least 21 people were wounded, AFP news agency reported, citing police. Civil defence official Emmanuel Ekeh told AP news agency that the blast was caused by a bomb at a political rally for Nigeria's governing party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP). However, this could not be confirmed. The PDP - led by President Goodluck Jonathan - has won every presidential election since Nigeria returned to civilian rule in 1999 and is favourite to win April's poll. |
rasputinn:I wonder, but, I have the feeling that these guys know that their prefared candidates/party are not doing well and that GEJ will win big, hence the negetive campaign. I'm not a PDP supporter, but I must admit that it's the only party that has the organisation necessary to fight a national election. ACN/CPC blew the opportunity to give PDP a real fight when they fail to merge. However, these negetive campaigning will further erode their popularity, Nigerians are no fools. |
ping pong:I see, why don't you produce them anymore? since you're "hardworkers". It's time you bloodsuckers leave others alone. |
darne:I'm not implying that GEJ is any beter but, no (Nigerian) politician is worth fighting for, Fash included. No need for the name calling, the president stated the obvious. And your Buhari is no saint. ![]() |
Guk:Go create your own wealth. Did you share your cocoa, palmoil, groundnut and cotton money with the long suffering people of the Niger delta? ![]() |
Take a good look at the pitiful state of Nigeria then tell me if our "rascal" leaders are worth the debate. If you're satisfy with your life then you can go on, castigate GEJ. Go on heap insult mr. Prez but, the fact remains that most Nigerian political leaders, SW included, are rascals that have condemned us to life of suffering. Bloody hypocrites. ![]() |
I don't trust these "men of god". Period. |
Ok, GEJ has outlined what he intends to do with his mandate if elected president of the FRN come april, which, viewed objectively, is not bad at all. But, what a minute, what is the opposition offering? Let's see their's so that we can compare. |
If we put halve of the effort we put into trying to survive in the so called "greener pasture" into developping our country, Nigeria would also become a " greener pasture" too. I believe we can do it. |
Killing an innocent man because of sexual orientation, and some nairalanders are applauding it? well, how disgusting. I bet some of you are "religious" and democracy craving, but you are not tolerant. The holy scriptures teaches us to be tolerant and one very important aspect of democracy is it's inclusiveness. He was every inch a human like the rest of us and didn't deserve to be killed. May the soul of this man, David Kato, Rest in Peace. |
@monkeyleg, you are just pretending to be objective, but from your post I can see that you're bitter dat GEJ won the ticket. Furthermore, you're also pretending to live in the UK and claiming to know the working of the whiteman's democracy. We know our system is full of flaws, but the conduct of the last PDP prez primaries was surely a step in the right direction. Don't always believe what those western press tell you, these guys are not always fair in their reporting of Africa. Sarah Jubril is a brave lady by any standard, because running for president of Nigeria is not for the fainthearted, but she should do her homework very well next time. |
