PoliticsRe: Jonathan To Remain In Charge While Yar'adua Recovers by sweet9ja: 8:59pm On Feb 24, 2010
US Dumps Yar'Adua

Signs that America has moved beyond the era of President Umaru Yar’Adua unfolded in Washington yesterday as its top African diplomat called for full international support for Acting President Jonathan Goodluck. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Affairs, Jonnie Carson told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on relations with Nigeria that while the administration hopes for a speedy recovery for President Yar’Adua, it was time to move on.

He said the administration supports the action of the lawmakers to resolve the country’s constitutional crisis by elevating the former Vice President. “Mr. Yar’Adua’s absence has generated political uncertainty and has challenged Nigeria’s young democratic institutions.

The National Assembly’s resolution that officially designated Vice President Goodluck Jonathan acting president demonstrated Nigeria’s resolve to find a peaceful solution to the country’s leadership vacum,” he said.
Mr. Carson who just returned from a trip to Abuja said Mr. Jonathan has done remarkably well in the saddle and assured that the administration would continue to provide assistance to the country.

He, however, warned that the future of the country remains in doubt until the government can hold free and fair elections.
“In my meetings with a broad range of political, religious and civil society across Nigeria, I discussed the important role that elections play in democracy. I stressed that Nigeria’s next presidential and national assembly elections scheduled for April 11, (2011), must be credible,” he stated. Carson said despite adding the country on the list of sponsors of terror, the administration remained committed to the progress of Nigeria as a critical ally in a host of international issues.

“We seek to enhance Nigeria’s role as a US partner on regional security but we also seek to bolster its ability to combat violent extremism within its own borders. He says Nigeria has a role to play in dismantling terror groups and that the government should do more to discourage such groups from operating in its territory.
“Nigeria is a partner in counter-terrorism efforts and it is in this context that Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction with their inclusion in the Transportation and Security Administration’s countries of interest list,” he stated. The White House said the administration would only review Nigeria’s listing as a terror nation after the installation of airport screeners and an audit of the nation’s main airports in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

The Americans are said to have reaffirm their support for Jonathan today.

This is very significant, cos' these guys have all sorts of security reports.

It means that they know something Jonathan, OBJ and Turai Know already;

Umar is definately incapacitated.

The meeting between Turai and Jonathan this evening may be an attempt

on her part to wriggle concessions of some sorts from him.

The next few days will be crucial.

Stay tune!

By bringing a terminally ill Umaru that cannot show his face or speak publicly to Nigerians, show that there is disarray in the Yar'Adua camp. Jonathan's postponement of the weekly fec meeting is a masterstroke, he knows how sick the man is and I think he is just showing some respect. Watch out in the comming days if Jonathan will scale down on his shedule and where he sits in comming fec meeting. I strongly agree that Turai is been overated, she is probably very nervous right now not knowing where the wind is blowing. Whatever happen the momentum is with Jonathan and you must never underestimate a quite man. cool
Foreign AffairsRe: Mugabe Cracks Down On Nigerians by sweet9ja: 2:14pm On Feb 21, 2010
Migration is not new, it's as old as human history itself. The very first people migrated from Africa and spread all over the world. Americans, European, Asians can be found in all corners of the world. The British government called Brits who migrate to greener pastaurs enterprising. That Nigerians are also in all corners of the world does not necessarily mean they've given up on Nigeria or that Nigeria is a bad place to live in.

Those who see migrants as threat to their economy are myopic.
It was reliably reported that Nigerians in the diaspora remitted more than US$10b back home in 2009. However, this is minuscule compered to taxes, rent/morgage, and what they spent on general upkeep in their host countries. Infact, much of what they earned goes back into the local economy.

That zim girls are going for naija guys is not a surprise, naija man know how to care for him woman. Generally speaking, women don't like a man sitting around the house the whole day complaining, they like go getters.

Please, these thing about western conspiracy or propaganda against Africa is now out of fashion. Most of the problems we have today are self inflicted. Just look at, Kenya, Zim, Niger and even our own naija, na oyimbo say make we cos wahala for oursef?

Zim like RSA are jealous of the little success we've recorded over there hence all the ranting. Abeg make una commot there for dem, boooo!

@sayso, Yar Adua/Jonathan have a joint agenda. It's not a bad one at all, so, he should implement it.

The decision to declare Jonathan act. prez is political. It may be unconstitutional, but I'm afraid challenging it in the courts by aondoaakaa or anyone else is not without risk; activating the impeachment clause (there is enough ground to impeach and I understand that the pro impeachment senators are up to 80 in number). My best bet is they'll opt to leave things the way they are. Trust me, these guys know what they are doing, they've already made some deals.

Jonathan has already address the nation in his new capacity as act. prez. He needs the support of us all to steady the nation and posibly lead us in the right direction. We all owe it to Nigeria to give him our support, his job is not an easy one. Afterall, the Nigerian presidency has been discribed as one of the most difficult job on earth. I wish him the best of luck. wink
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Senate Votes To Empower Vice President by sweet9ja: 9:33pm On Feb 09, 2010
a military coup d'etat is not in anyones best interest, the north included, because it may hasting the disintegration of nigeria, which means the flow oil money will dry out.
rather jonathan need to move quickly to rid the fec of the likes of the agf and reach out to all section of the country. the current crisis is one too much and mr act. prez will need all the skills and help he can summon to pull the nation back together. wink

Well, they'll fail woefully, cos' even the ever carefull VP knows is only matter of time now.

Those who have case (of corruption) to answer will have no one to protect them anymore.

, I hope they bring Mallam Ribadu back.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Can't Be Acting President - High Court by sweet9ja: 8:08pm On Jan 19, 2010
@harakiri, guess what, some south-southern politician are reported to be working against the handing over to Jonathan.

A "fifth column" I suppose,  so, seems there's there is more to it.
PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Protest In Abuja 12-01-2010(more pictures) by sweet9ja: 4:48pm On Jan 15, 2010
Yar'Adua must not be alowed back to Aso Rock. Nigerians of all walk of life should joing the protest and  continue with it until we see his back. We must take back our country from these thieves and fraudsters that call themselves leaders.
PDP can make whatever (power) arrangementsit like, but PDP is not 9ja. Yar'Adua (and his PDP) has clearly lost the support and goodwill of Nigerians. And hope that men like Anakonda and his cohorts will be call to account for their role one day.
Anambra take note.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Can't Be Acting President - High Court by sweet9ja: 7:13pm On Jan 14, 2010
The situation in 9ja is both absurd and potentially dangerous. If Mr Yar'Adua is a man of integrity and "rule of law" he should quickly resign and save the nation from an impending catastrophe. Moreover,  the constitution must not only be amended, but South-southerners must agitate more aggressively for resource control and confederation. , yes, confederation! We just can't continue like this, this is not the Sprite of ONE Nigeria!
PoliticsRe: The Real Warri (with Pictures) by sweet9ja: 4:52pm On Jan 12, 2010
I grew up in Orerokpe and Warri, but left 9ja more than nearly 3 decades ago. I've been to some of those glamorous places that often wow us, however, all these cities have their downsides too. We should remember that, when going out, one present his/her good face not the ugly one. Also remember that in this (internet) age whatever you post is seen, not only by Nigerians alone, but by people as far away and as far apart as Argentina and Malaysia. I also regularly view other towns and cities around the world on Youtube, but I don't see slums only "shine, shine" like a friend of mine often says. You see, nobody like to hear about your poverty or your problems (infact there's a more fashionable word for "problem" this days: challenge). It all about PR, it about selling ourselves, it's about telling the world that Warri is beautiful and rising, it about wooing investors to Warri. A VERY BIG THANK TO PAPABROWN. We should all be telling the rest of the world positive stories about Warri. wink
