NASS ELECTION: More revelation are coming out regarding the un scheduled meeting that was supposedly called by President Buhari.

Report reaching News Talent arena Africa states that the President was not the initiator of that meeting. The meeting was called by Bola Tinubu and party chairman Chief Oyegun was instructed to send text messages intimating members.

Bola Tinubu came up with idea of the meeting hoping to convince President Buhari to attend. Members in the Sarakiand Dagoro camp disregarded the text as they saw right through the mischief of the senders.

Our source further went on to say any meeting initiated by the President will be at the Villa and not International Conference Centre. Tinubu’s objective was to have the President use his influence to instruct the waring faction to join the Lawan’s camp and present one candidate for election. 

The President however kept to his promise of not interfering and he has promised to work with any leader NASS members elect.  When Tinubu and his cabal waited for 2 hours with President Buhari not showing up and saw the breaking news on their phones that election that taken place and Saraki won, they rushed out to the National Assembly; however, it was too late. The deed has been done. The country had a new Senate President. Tinubu and APC have been beaten in their game of imposition.

A  Kano High Court sitting in Gezawa on Tuedsay  set free Wasila Tasiu, 14, accused of killing her husband

and three others in April last year. In a landmark judgment, according to THISDAY,  Justice Mohammed Yahaya ruled that the court had no option than to comply with the application that originated from the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice that sought to terminate the case. “I have no alternative than to pronounce according to the law that the application for nolle proseque is hereby granted,” the presiding judge said. Consequently, Justice Yahaya declared that Wasila was discharged. 

The verdict threw the courtroom into wild jubilation, as hordes of human rights activists were present. Earlier, the prosecution’s lawyer, Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, tendered an application dated May 20th that was signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, urging the court to discontinue with the high profile murder case which has attracted global attention. Dinki said: “In the nolle proseque is a delegation of power by the Commissioner for Justice to me and I hereby submit the notification and the instrument to the court.” The Kano State Government had asked that the case be dismissed because she was a minor who had been forcibly married. 

The girl is to be freed from detention following the ruling, reported the BBC. When the case was reported in 2014, it threw a spotlight on the issue of child brides and forced marriages in Nigeria. The girl admitted to killing her husband by concealing rat poison in his food, the police in Kano said at the time. The girl’s father had forced her to marry the 35-year-old man, police said. The Islamic police in Kano and many other parts of northern Nigeria are trying to stop parents from forcing children into marriages. The region has a majority Muslim, and a mixture of a secular and lslamic system of government.

Interesting times in Nigerian politics as  Saraki was elected unopposed in a tactical move- Coup. The candidate for the Senate Presidency was one the APC wanted to impose on the Senators. This was resisted  till the last minute by Saraki and his LIKE MIND Group of APC Senators. 

The situation become serious as APC saw the writing on the wall that with PDP’S support Saraki will win the race. In view of this President Buhari was asked  the to intercede and stamp the imposition of Senator Ahmed Lawal. A meeting of APC Senators was called at 9.00 am today 9th of June by President Buhari to that effect. 

THE COUP:
While 51 Senators including Senator Ahmed Lawal were having the meeting with Buhari. The Saraki Group with the PDP Senators 57 of them were in the chambers electing Saraki since they have the majority to win.

This is a victory for the PDP as the Saraki the party help Senator Abubakar Saraki in his victory of fighting APC imposition.

The wait for President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet appears to be throwing up a lot of intrigues and suspense among party stakeholders Chibuzo Ukaibe writes.

President Muhammadu Buhari bears a burden of change. For an experienced administrator who understands that the buck stops at his desk, picking a team would be tasking as it would require a detailed introspection.

As it stands, he has made it clear that he intends to make a total departure from the status-quo in selecting his cabinet- he wants to pick his team by himself.

He, perhaps, is mindful of the notion that the character of his cabinet will signpost how his government will be regarded.

What’s more? Having ran a far-reaching campaign, raising public expectations to an all-time high in run for the presidential office, it is quite instructive that his ministers are not just the best the country can offer, but must be answerable to him alone as their boss.

Beside his plans to have a smaller cabinet in line with constitutional provisions on the selection process, Buhari had questioned the logic behind why governors or anybody would tend to determine his cabinet, which naturally should be answerable to him.

In a recent interview, Buhari, when asked if he had outlined his cabinet and identified those he wants to work with said, “I am not just speaking about it, I have not put anything on paper, so nobody has seen it and I haven’t discussed it with anybody. I am just keeping it close to my chest”.

On further questioning on the outline, he noted, “I have been around long enough to know people that I can approach for things like that”.

For the better part of the 16 years, of the democracy, albeit under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it was for the governors of the party and some other influential members of the party that make recommendations or nominate persons they deem fit for ministerial positions.

This practice, in Nigeria’s presidential system, which could be explained as an act towards inclusiveness was, however, usually indicative of political patronage or deferment to strong political actors for their roles in securing victory for the party at the elections.

In turn, the governors or political leaders would nominate party members or cronies as sign of compensation for loyalty or to firm up their political base.

Often, political considerations tended to take prominence over competence in the selection of ministers, it would seem.

To this much, Buhari said, “Well, I am an ardent listener of the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from 6 to 7am every day. I am going to quote myself because I heard in one of the interviews where I said the type of people I am supposed to appoint in the cabinet, the secretary to the government of the federation and service chiefs will be different from how the PDP appointed its own. Definitely, the system is going to be different from what we had under the PDP, where governors nominated ministers”.

Last week, he forwarded names of his advisers to the National Assembly to be cleared. Also, he has appointed his media team. It is yet to be known how much political influence came to bear in the selection of his aides.

However, while the times are different and casting away this practice may be daring, whether or not it is politically correct is another matter.

Already, analysts are wondering whether this move will go down well with the governors and other stakeholders of the party, who would feel shut out or slighted by the president’s decision.

Buhari shocks APC, consults Jonathan on choice of ministers; asks ex-president to nominate-

Indications emerged on Friday that President Muhammadu Buhari holds regular discussions with the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan

and other former presidents, including Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo, Yakubu Gowon and Shehu Sagari on who becomes members of the next Federal Executive Council (FEC). The move came against the backdrop of unrealistic demands of national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and some other chieftains of the party. 

This also informed the recent decisions of the Presidency to keep away from them major and crucial decisions of government. President Buhari, having learnt lessons from the overbearing influence of some godfathers of the immediate past government of the now opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which affected the fortunes of the party in the last general elections, may have begun secret consultations with former President Goodluck Jonathan on the choice of new ministers, special advisers and other appointments at the federal level. 

The president, who confided in some friends of Mr Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, who visited him at Defence House, Abuja on Friday, disclosed that he had specifically consulted Jonathan and asked him to forward names of those he considers competent and fit for appointment as ministers. Sundiata Post reports that friends of Mr Femi Adesina, immediate past Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, comprising members of Nigerian Guild of Editors and his friends from defunct Concord Newspapers, whom had worked with Adesina in the days of Concord, paid a ‘Thank-You’ visit to Buhari at his Defence House residence in Abuja on Friday. 

A source from Defence House told our correspondent that Buhari told the friends of Mr Adesina who came to thank him for the choice of Adesina as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, that he would run an all-inclusive government against the thoughts of Bola Tinubu and some APC caucuses, saying: “I will run all-inclusive government here.” He described Nigeria as an aircraft and Tinubu and the APC as pilots. 

The president said they might know and consider what happens to passengers after the long journey but would forget that governance goes beyond one or two terms, adding that he would not allow selfish and parochial interest of anybody, no matter how highly placed, to override good and corruption-free governance. The source said, “Nigerians will be shocked when President Buhari completes the list of who becomes ministers, advisers and all other key positions in a few weeks. By the time the National Assembly receives the list, even Tinubu will be shocked because like the man said during the inauguration he is ready to work for everybody and nobody.” 

The source told Sundiata Post further that President Buhari “is ready and willing to work with anybody in any part of the country in as much as the person abides by the philosophy of his government and is ready to live a corruption-free life”. It added that “those that are perceived corrupt by Nigerians can also work with him if they have decided to turn a new leaf.” Sundiata Post recalls that this is not the first time President Buhari would work secretly with the former President Jonathan since they had once worked together for the emergence of the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina as the newly- elected President of African Development Bank (AfDB).

NEWS NUGGET- Am Not Afraid Of Buahri, Ngozi Replies Oshiomhole, says attack “useless”.

The outgoing Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Thursday described as baseless comments by the Edo State governor, Adam Oshiomhole, that she mismanaged the excess crude revenue account in the last four years. Following a publication by the Federal Ministry of Finance, highlighting a total of N2.92 trillion as share of the 36 state governments’ allocation from the excess crude account between 2011 and 2014, Mr. Oshiomhole lambasted Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, accusing her of gross mismanagement of the Nigerian economy. 

Mr. Oshiomhole said the Minister fed Nigerians with half-truths about the true state of the economy in the last four years. He added that she has herself to blame for running the Excess Crude Account as a “one-man show”. However, the embattled minister, through her spokesperson, Paul Nwabuikwu, described the governor’s reaction as “baseless” and “full of gaping holes, both in facts and logic”. She said it was no surprise that these statements were coming few days after the publication. 

Excess Crude Account-:

Ngozi- The Minister said she was being targeted, particularly by those governors whose states could not pay salaries, for daring to publish how the ECA was shared. Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said releasing the ECA details had shown that allegations about missing oil money in the excess crude account under her watch were wild and lacking any substance. The motive behind Mr. Oshiomhole’s attack, like other governors, the Minister said, was “to divert public attention away from the manner in which they have run the finances of their states and to make Okonjo-Iweala the scapegoat”. “How can Governor Oshiomhole claim that state governors were not properly briefed on the status of the ECA when their Commissioner of Finance attended all the FAAC meetings where decisions are taken and communicated to the nation?” she asked.

Oshiomole's demand for Subsidie details:

Ngozi- On the governor’s demand for the disclosure of full details of subsidy payments to oil marketers in the last four years, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala expressed surprise, in view of the fact that every such payments had always been published in the media. The minister dismissed Mr. Oshiomhole’s allegation that she has not been transparent in the management of the country’s revenues as “ridiculous and totally lacking in merit”, as details of monthly allocations to the federal, state and local governments have always been made public. Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said she had no apologies for insisting that a claim of N159 billion by the marketers out of a total of N200 billion for foreign exchange (FOREX) differentials should go through an additional verification process. 

Fear Of Buhari:

Ngozi- The minister, who described as ridiculous and laughable Mr. Oshiomhole’s claim that she was speaking out lately for “fear of Buhari”, said she has no reason to fear. “Those who cannot adequately explain what they did with the resources of their states and are begging for bailout are those who should to be scared,” she said.

A Muslim televangelist, Mücahid Cihad Han has set Turkish social media aflame by claiming that a man would meet his masturbating hand ‘pregnant in the afterlife’ and is ‘asking for its rights.

Self-styled televangelist Mücahid Cihad Han dived into some delicate matters on May 24 when he answered his viewers’ questions on private television station 2000 TV, Turkish media has reported. Han initially looked puzzled when a viewer said he ‘kept masturbating, although he was married, and even during the Umrah,” a pilgrimage to Mecca performed by Muslims which can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Hajj.

After repeating the question a few times, Han claimed that Islam strictly prohibits masturbation as a “haram” (forbidden) act. “Moreover, one hadith states that those who have sexual intercourse with their hands will find their hands pregnant in the afterlife, complaining against them to God over its rights,” he said, referring to what he claimed to be a saying of Prophet Muhammad.

“If our viewer was single, I could recommend he marry, but what can I say now?” the televangelist added, advising the viewer to “resist Satan’s temptations.”

Han, who has more than 12,000 followers on Twitter, was mocked on Turkish social media on May 25, after newspapers published his latest television “fatwa.”

Abortion as generally known is the medical process of ending a pregnancy so it does not result in the birth of a baby. Research has shed more light on the disadvantages of having an abortion.


According to The Foundation for Africa Cultural Heritage, cancer is now one of the risks associated with undergoing an abortion.
According to FACH president, Dr. Nkechi Asogwa, many cases of bosom cancer have been linked to the aftermath of an abortion.

Asogwa further said that contraceptives and other birth control pills that have been banned in the United States due to their side effects were being shipped to Nigeria, adding that Nigerians deserve to be told the medical risks involved in taking birth control pills, to enable them to make informed choice.

According to her:

“When you terminate a pregnancy you end many ongoing processes in the body such as the preparation of bosom for the secretion of milk. So the tissues that were cut off suddenly would become fragile and they can trigger the formation of cancerous cells in the bosom. There are about five health implications attached to most of these drugs and that was why they were banned in the West. But here, no one is asking questions”

Bomedical scientist, Obianuju Ekeocha speaking at the forum also warned that abortion might damage the womb and lead to future infertility.

She called on the Federal Government to resist any pressure from international partners to legalise abortion.
