Following the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election, leader of the militia group, Niger Delta People Salvation Front, Asari Dokubo, has declared that his group is ready to commence its armed struggle against the Nigerian state. Mr. Dokubo on several occasion in the recent past promised to make Nigeria ungovernable if Mr Jonathan, an Ijaw from the Niger Delta, was not-re-elected. Speaking on Sunday at the Annual Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s Memorial Public Event, the militant said whatever restraining order the Jonathan’s administration had on the armed struggle for the self determination of the Niger Delta people has now been voided with the emergence of the in-coming Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He said a new phase in the struggle will soon be unveiled, but that militants will wait for the new government to “draw the first blood.” “Yes, a new government begins in Nigeria and a next phase of our struggle shall begin also,” he said. “Jonathan Goodluck Presidency was like a restraining order now that restraint is lifted. However, we will watch and wait, let them draw the first blood and we shall determine our best way forward. Truly Nigeria will never be the same again the future is pregnant.” He said the posturing of the incoming Buhari-led administration suggests that it will extinguish whatever is left of the Niger Delta struggle. He added he is ready to die in war or in prison if the in-coming government attempts to trifle with the struggle for self-determination of the oil-producing region or treat it as a conquered region. “Should Buhari whom like pharaoh has determined in his heart to turn desolate the Niger Delta region, draw the first blood by undermining certain interest of the region then begin the systemic arrest, maiming and murder our comrades, continue the confiscation of our rights to self-determination and treat the region as a conquered region, then it may be honourable for some of us to die in prison or in the field of war as nobody is afraid of him,” Mr. Dokubo said. Mr. Dokubo took a swipe at other Niger Delta militants that have declared their readiness to work with in-coming government describing them as “petty penny merchants” and “field slaves” who have fled the battlefield before the first good is fired. He further called on Niger Delta youth to resist any attempt to treat the region as a defeated region. “Let it be known that we were not defeated,” Mr. Dokubo said. “It was Jonathan and his party that lost an election. We as a people, indeed the Niger Delta region alongside the Igbos were never defeated. BREAKING NEWS: Mohammed Morsi: Egypt’s ex-leader sentenced to death. An Egyptian court has sentenced ousted president Mohammed Morsi to death over a mass prison break in 2011. The former leader has already been sentenced to 20 years in jail for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters during his time in power. Morsi was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule. Since then, the authorities have banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters. All death sentences must first be sent to the Grand Mufti, Egypt’s highest religious authority, for his opinion on whether they should stand. Convictions are still open to appeal, even if the Grand Mufti gives his approval. Morsi’s supporters have said that the cases against him are politically motivated and attempts to give legal cover to a coup, while Morsi has rejected the authority of the courts. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, has appealed to party members and stakeholders to rest all misunderstandings and work toward the party’s stability and survival. He made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja. <!--more--> Mu’ azu urged the members across the country to put the disappointment its defeat at the just-concluded elections may have caused them and the party behind. He said that though the party’s defeat was painful, ‘’members should key into the intervention by President Goodluck Jonathan and not allow the situation to further divide it’’. “I very much appreciate the reactions of some of our members like Gov. Ayo Fayose, whose victory in Ekiti in June 2014, helped to strengthen our party, particularly in the South-West region. “Nevertheless, in the larger interest of our party, we all must resolve to bury the hatchet and pick our pieces to rebuild the party and return it to its winning ways,’’ M’azu said. He said that in the wisdom of the party`s leadership, a Post-Election Assessment Committee headed by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, had been set up. He said that it was, therefore, necessary for all to support the committee with meaningful report that would provide answers to the challenges and roadmap for the party`s future. I was watching the news some days back when an advert came up about security numbers to call and report crimes ( asking for bail is a crime ). And I was just sad to the point of it became funny because the numbers were more than 20 different 11 digit phone numbers. I was like; with all the billions pumped into Nigeria’s security sector, Nigeria’s security sector still go around buying N100 sim cards for us to call? How in Heavens name is anyone going to remember those numbers in times of emergency? In America they have the famous 911. In Nigeria the easiest to remember 3 digit combination is 419. That number has meant Negative things for far too long. Its about time we put it to good use and turn its meaning to positive.
