I think all International Ooil Companies's (IOC's) should learn from Total E & P Nigeria (TEPNG) the operators of OML-58 amongst others. Recently the symbiotic relationship between Total and a host community came to the fore. On Friday, June 22, 2012 a new Memoranda od Understanding (MoUs)that will last for 5 years was signed between Total and Egi Oil & Gas Families/Communities and Total and Egi Clan.
The new agreements deals with the following issues:
Infrastructure development
Skills development
Scholarships
Employment
Agriculture

Total has worked with its host communities such that the communities eg Egi clan is on the path of sustainable development (SD).
Total is worthy of emulation by other IOC's

Enough of high handedness and the divide and rule tactics of some of these IOC's in the Delta, learn from Total

Parklane A: You guys are amazing!

There are some protocols that the security agents that are tasked with protection of elected officials insist on to do their job. I remember reading a story just a day ago about him getting out of his convoy to personally intervene at the scene of a car accident. Of course that didn't make the front page!

Animals are souls
(Genesis 2:18, 19) . . .And Jehovah God went on to say: “It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.” 19 Now Jehovah God was forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one; and whatever the man would call it, each living soul, that was its name.

(Joshua 11:10, 11) 10 More than that, Joshua turned about at that time and captured Ha′zor; and its king he struck down with the sword, because Ha′zor was before that the head of all these kingdoms. 11 And they went striking every soul that was in it with the edge of the sword, devoting [them] to destruction. No breathing thing at all was left over, and he burned Ha′zor in the fire.

Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Bakare Attacks Patience Jonathan by TalkingBird:
What would Jesus say and do if he were to be on earth today?

Consider these examples:
John 6:15: “Jesus, knowing they [the Jews] were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain all alone.” Later, he told the Roman governor: “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.”—John 18:36.

John 17:16: “They are no part of the world, just as I [Jesus] am no part of the world.”

Luke 6:27, 28: “I [Jesus Christ] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you.”

Matt. 26:52: “Jesus said to him: ‘Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.’” (Could there have been any higher cause for which to fight than to safeguard the Son of God? Yet, Jesus here indicated that those disciples were not to resort to weapons of physical warfare.)

and his followers had a similar mentality as seen below
Jas. 4:4: “Adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.” (Why is the matter so serious? Because, as

1 John 5:19 says, “the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” At John 14:30, Jesus referred to Satan as being “the ruler of the world.” So, no matter what worldly faction a person might support, under whose control would he really come?)

He obviously has a different view of world events (John 12:31, Daniel 2:44).

Luke 6:27, 28: “I [Jesus Christ] say to you who are listening, Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you.”

2 Cor. 10:3, 4: “Though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage warfare according to what we are in the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but powerful by God for overturning strongly entrenched things.” (Paul here states that he never resorted to fleshly weapons, such as trickery, high-sounding language, or carnal weapons, to protect the congregation against false teachings.)

John 17:16: “They are no part of the world, just as I [Jesus] am no part of the world.”

John 6:15: “Jesus, knowing they [the Jews] were about to come and seize him to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain all alone.” Later, he told the Roman governor: “My kingdom is no part of this world. I think Jesus was familiar with this prophesy:
Isa. 2:2-4: “It must occur in the final part of the days that the mountain of the house of Jehovah will become firmly established above the top of the mountains . . . And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.” (Individuals out of all nations must personally decide what course they will pursue. Those who have heeded Jehovah’s judgment give evidence that he is their God.)

He obviously has a different view on world issues.

aribisala0: I am not sure what "decent" means as no relationship is fun without INDECENCY grin grin grin
kidding
If you mean a marriage or relationship with a realistic chance of marriage then it is simple
There are different social classes in Nigeria and so it depends;not every Nigerian uses public transport even when flying so there are levels and levels
A woman with a job and income who expects reimbursement for visiting is not wife material but may fulfil other requirements
However the reality in Nigeria is the economy is largely controlled by men and some cultures discourage women from working/earning thus reinforcing dependency and slavery. What is painful is women do not see it as slavery.[/b]If the women has no money you should pay if you can and if you can't well ; cow wey no get tail nagod dey help am drive fly.Reality is there are many Nigerian girls who spend money on men hoping for marriage and end up disappointed by some bastards so it is not only women who are mercenary
There are however large numbers of women from social classes where even their grandmothers are Professors, doctors etc e.g the likes of Achebe Okonjo-Iweala etc' children/grandchildren and I would be surprised if people from such backgrounds expect transport fare.
[b]Women like to be pampered and a man paying her fare is an admirable act of chivalry that some well-off women would appreciate occasionally
.I think it is a different thing when there is a need to "balance the books" and this is considered obligatory for every visit..In that sort of situation the relationship is not "decent" as you call it but business which is actually perfect for me and a lot of men because everyone knows the score
I really would not have liked to quote you, but I think it is instructive.
As for the italized- I no dey oh!

queensmith: I don't know why anybody has to pay for anybodies transport. But its cultural courtsey [/b]in a way, if someone pays you a visit the least you can do is reimburse them for their troubles. I'm guessin if your girl has better use of her money then sure.
That's a voice of reason.
[b]African cultural courtesy

I think the best I saw in Europe was a their giving their visitor a ride back home. They reject monetary assistance or your paying for them.
May be Africans have a better way of showing loving kindness. Which most times is exploited by the ladies.

aribisala0: Guys pay up please stop arguing and pay up.If you can't pay do not keep Naija "girlfriends" just focus on improving your life . Although maybe we should change the thread title to Should Men pay for reasonable expenses associated with services rendered.

There is no point deceiving ourselves. These relationships are generally transactional and should be paid for by those deriving benefits.

Having said that there are a smaller number of relationships where the man (usually young and virile) is servicing the woman(usually married and sex-starved) and getting paid for his endeavours. This is life. In fact if you settle these girls well they can arrange others for you so you have the best of both world.
What I do not accept though is the use of phrases such as "I love you" that is absolutely Forbidden.
Unless I misunderstood this thread.
I am talking of very decent relationships

jay bee: Why is it interesting Sir/Ma?
Look at this scenario.
You own a car and seriously tied up to the extent that you are unable to go pick your date for one reason or the other. [b]You [/b]ask her to get a cab instead of waiting for you to come pick her so as to save time. Would you expect her to pay considering the fact that you asked her to come see you, she is having to change her usual mode of transportation because of your busy schedule so as to please you.
Good logic. It follows an age long principle-
(Matthew 7:12) 12 “All things, therefore, that YOU want men to do to YOU, YOU also must likewise do to them; this, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean.

However, it shouldn't be an excuse for commonizing it as found in every day relationships around us.
