I’m a Nigerian, and you too. The greatest users of the Internet and this Nairaland are youths and we mostly need money. What if the precious time we spend on the internet is converted to cash in our wallets? What if we learn how to utilize the different forums like Nairaland and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter for optimum financial benefits, wouldn’t that be a great thing?

Well, the advantages of working online are that anyone can do it. Introverts are the luckiest of all because you can stay indoors, making your money while the whole world is busy walking up and down on daily basis. You are automatically your own boss and can be making as much as you can hustle on a monthly basis.
These tips I’m sharing are worth a lot of cash. Yea, people pay me to learn them and they are available in my e-books, but I have decided to share them here too. If you follow them carefully, then you’d have a great next month, but if you disvalue it, just as people disvalue freebies, then you continue the way you are. If you are one of the lazy types, forget about all these because we have kept so many sleepless nights to get this far.

1. Blogging: This is my favorite method of making money online. I simply define it as monetizing your hobby. You write on anything you find fun and make money from that. The issue is that many new bloggers don’t make quick money from their blogs, and then they quit. My twin and I manage three blogs together. Info Guide Africa, Reporter 247 and Afra Tales are all our blogs. We started blogging in 2016 but didn’t make a dime until early 2017. We didn’t quit during those periods and now we have our stars to thank. If you want to quit blogging, persist for a little while. Your breakthrough is coming.
There are so many ways to make money from your blog. The most popular is Google AdSense but it’s the most frustrating. My best are sponsored posts and affiliate marketing. They have made us a lot of money from our blogs. You can join Valued Voice, Izea and Blog Dash for sponsored posts. You can also join Amazon and Konga Affiliate to stop this Nigerian addiction to AdSense. All you need is a little budget to host your blog on Whogohost or even go for the free blogger hosting. Be hard working and you will make it faster than you can ever imagine.

2. Freelancing: This is also another great source of income. It’s my next favorite after blogging. I have written many things concerning it and it’s a great source of revenue. You can even make a lot of money landing clients on Facebook or join sites like Fiverr. I write for Blasting News and it’s my favorite freelancing site. I have made some good amount of money writing for them and I believe you too can. You can join them too by clicking here. They'd pay you for almost anything you can write! If you sign up and publish five posts within your first month of working there, you get a bonus of $25.

3. Making Money From Social Networking Sites: Of course, I make some good amount of money monthly from my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even YouTube handles. If you are a good user of Pinterest, then you can also monetize it. You can join Valued Voice for that.

4. Affiliate Marketing: I really love this because it can in 24 hours do the wonders your AdSense cannot do in three months. Imaging generating the sale for a $1500 ware at the rate of 10% to the affiliate, you are automatically credited $150. That’s a good amount of money for you, but it will not really matter to the company. There are many sites that can help you generate sales for commissions and a good example of them in Nigeria is Konga. Other sites like Whogohost can also pay you for sales you generate.

5. Graphics Designs: This isn’t for all, but for the talented ones. You can create a graphics design for prices ranging from $5 to $50 and even more. I get my clients on Facebook mostly but you can still land clients from Fiverr, infact that’s the hottest.
Apart from these five, there are so many other things that can pay you off right from the comfort of your room. You can even quit your job when you have gotten a good ground in them, or combine both. In cases like blogging, you have to invest your cash, time or even both for maximum profit. In ones like freelancing and graphics designing, you only invest in software which you’d use such as article spinners or graphics design software. Affiliate marketing will need sponsored posts and ads like Facebook and Twitter ads.

Nigeria’s music icon Tubaba has revealed a part of his side which most of his fans knew nothing of.

The living music legend Innocent Idibia graced cover for Guardian Life Magazine and the musician in a snippet of his interview has revealed that if life had not led him to the path of music, he would have ended up being a goalkeeper.

When asked what he would have done with his life if he wasn’t musician, Tubaba had promptly replied that he would have become a goalkeeper.

The choice of career came as a surprise to the interviewer who went ahead to ask why ‘goalkeeping’, Tubaba had only laughed.

Going further in the interview, the singer had revealed the three things he does early in the morning when he wakes up.

And a friend just bought a domain name from NIRA and they refused to release the domain name, claiming that it was "specially for the sports organisation in Nigeria" and "they can need it anytime..."

How can they seize it after purchase?

Two Female Nigerians Appointed By BBC To Serve As Heads Of Language Service For East And West Africa

As part of the BBC World Service’s further expansion in Africa, two Nigerian women have been appointed the heads of language services for Eastand West Africa respectively.

Based in Nairobi, Rachael Akidi Okwir, the Head of East Africa Languages, will be managing services in Afaan Oromo, Amharic, Somali, Swahili and Tigrinya.

While Toyosi Ogunseye, who is based in Lagos as the Head of West Africa Languages, will be managing Afrique, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin and Yoruba.Rachael was the Editor of the flagship radio programme Focus on Africa.

She joined the BBC World Service as a producer in 2002 and has worked across various platforms and programmes including Network Africa, The World Today, Focus On Africa TV and the website, bbcafrica.com In recognition of her leadership qualities and potential, Rachael was selected for the inaugural BBC News Leadership Programme.

Born in Uganda, her career in journalism started as a freelance contributor to Ugandan newspapers and radio stations whilst a student at Makerere University.

Toyosi Ogunseye was the Editor of the Sunday Punch, one of Nigeria’s most widely read newspapers. She was the first female editor in the 45 year history of the company.

An award winning journalist with a passion for investigative reporting, she has won over 30 awards and was the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Knight International Journalism award.

Toyosi is a fellow of President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative and currently sits on the board of the World Editors Forum. She holds an MSc in Media and Communication and is currently studying for a PhD in Politics and International Relations at the University of Leicester.

Toronto billionaire and philanthropist Barry Sherman and his wife were found dead in their mansion Friday, and police said they were investigating the deaths as suspicious.

Const. David Hopkinson would not identify the two bodies found at the home of Apotex founder Bernard "Barry" Sherman and his wife, Honey. But Ontario's health minister said the couple had been discovered dead.

Hopkinson noted that it was early in the police investigation

"The circumstances of their death appear suspicious and we are treating it that way," Hopkinson said at a news conference held outside the couple's home. "Our investigators are inside investigating and taking apart the scene."

Hopkinson said police were called to the Shermans' home in an upscale neighbourhood of north Toronto just before noon on Friday in response to a "medical complaint."

He declined to say whether the bodies showed signs of trauma and did not provide details on the time or cause of death.

Hopkinson said the deaths are not currently being treated as homicides, adding that more investigation will be necessary.

"There may be suspicious circumstances. It's an investigative tool," he said. "Until we know exactly how they died, we treat it as suspicious. Once a determination has been made by the pathologist and the coroner, then we move forward from there."

Police said later Friday evening that they are not currently seeking any suspects but are keeping an open mind on all possibilities.

"We did not observe any signs of forced entry into the building and so at this point indications are that we have no outstanding suspect to be going after," Det. Brandon Price told reporters.

"We will be getting a lot more answers tomorrow (Saturday) following the post-mortem examinations."

Ontario Health Minister Eric Hoskins sent a tweet expressing shock at the death of his "dear friends," who he described as "wonderful human beings."

"I am beyond words right now," Hoskins wrote in his tweet. "Incredible philanthropists, great leaders in health care. A very, very sad day."

Police Reports
In a statement Friday night, Hoskins added that the Shermans will be deeply missed.

"They were generous philanthropists, kind and compassionate individuals, devoted to their family, their friends, their community, this province and this country," he said. "Their leadership and investments in health care leave a legacy we are all better for."

Barry Sherman founded Toronto-based Apotex Inc. in 1974 with two employees and gradually turned it into the largest Canadian-owned pharmaceutical company.

Along the way he amassed a vast fortune, recently estimated by Canadian Business magazine at $4.77 billion, making him the 15th richest person in the country.

Sherman faced legal action from family members alleging they had been cut out of the company over the years.

As a producer of more than 300 generic pharmaceutical products, Apotex has itself seen a fair number of litigation issues, as companies have pushed back on its efforts to sell cheaper no-name options.

One of the most high-profile of those clashes occurred when pharma giant Bristol-Myers Squibb sued Apotex in 2006 to try and stop it from selling the first generic form of the heart-disease treatment Plavix.

Today, the company has more than 10,000 people in research, development, manufacturing and distribution facilities world-wide, with more than 6,000 employees at its Canadian operations. Those include manufacturing and research facilities concentrated in the Toronto area as well as in Winnipeg.


Filling more than 89 million prescriptions in a year and exporting to 115 countries, the privately held company says its worldwide sales exceed $2 billion a year.

Sherman's wife, Honey, was a member of the board of the Baycrest Foundation and the York University Foundation. She also served on the boards of Mount Sinai's Women's Auxiliary, the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the International American Joint Distribution Committee.

The Shermans were among Canada's most generous philanthropists and also organized funding of charitable causes through the Apotex Foundation. The couple made numerous multimillion-dollar donations to hospitals, schools and charities and had buildings named in their honour.

A University of Toronto website lists the Apotex Foundation and the Shermans as donors in the range of $10 million to $25 million during 1995 and 2003. They also donated roughly $50 million to the United Jewish Appeal.

In a statement on the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto's website, the Shermans expressed their particular "obligation" to support the Jewish community.

"We are fortunate in being able to contribute," the couple is quoted as saying. "You can't take it with you, so the best alternative is to put it to good use while you are here."

The chair of the Sinai Health System's board said the Shermans' deaths was a big loss.

"Their visible leadership on our hospital and foundation board of directors was infused with warmth, passion and a fierce intelligence," Brent Belzberg said in a statement. "Their loss will be felt by our organization, our community, and our country."

Apotex called news of the deaths "tragic."

"All of us at Apotex are deeply shocked and saddened by this news and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time," the company said in a statement.

The address where the bodies were found was recently listed for sale for $6.9 million. Neighbours confirmed that the property was the couple's home.

As she was dying from gunshot wounds, a Brooklyn, N.Y., teen used her last breaths to identify the man who shot her because she refused to date him, police testified Monday.

According to the New York Daily News, 16-year-old Shemel Mercurius struggled through a painful 20-minute wait for an ambulance, but in that time, she told authorities about a 25-year-old man who wanted to date her and would not take no for an answer, the police said.

Taariq Stephens is the 25-year-old facing charges that he murdered Shemel, a junior at Edward R. Murrow High School. Shemel was babysitting her 3-year-old cousin in May 2016 when authorities say Stephens forced his way into the apartment in the New York City borough and shot her three times with a submachine gun.

During Stephens’ trial Monday inside the state Supreme Court in Brooklyn, responding officers detailed the scene to which they arrived on May 31, 2016.

“There was a 3-year-old male child … covered in blood crying next to the victim,” Police Sgt. Ryan Habermehl testified, adding that he immediately called EMS. “It took about 20 minutes for EMS to arrive.”

Police Officer Kyle Thomas Daly was the one who found Shemel bleeding, seated on a toy car and slumped against the wall.

“I put on gloves, took her off the car and laid her down and began rendering aid … she regained consciousness, gave me her name and date of birth,”

Daly, who has since left the New York City Police Department to join the Suffolk County, N.Y., Police Department, told the courtroom.

He also confirmed that it took about 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

Shemel went in and out of consciousness, but in that time, she was able to tell another detective that Stephens wanted them to be a couple but she wasn’t interested, Daly testified.

Shemel and Stephens had met at a day care center about a week before the slaying and exchanged numbers, according to authorities.

Shortly before she was shot, Shemel had buzzed a friend, Lona Junien, into the building where she was babysitting. Junien, 18, also testified what she saw when she approached the apartment.

“The person pushed her. The person said, ‘Don’t ever lie to me.’ She was screaming; he took out the gun and shot her,”

Junien said.
However, when she was being questioned by Stephens’ lawyer, Junien did acknowledge that a detective had identified Stephens as the shooter before she had a chance to identify him for herself.

A 23-year-old third year university student identified as Valerie Apondi, was on Saturday murdered by her boyfriend who accused her of being unfaithful.
The incident took place in the wee hours of the morning in a guest house in Bondo town. Apondi, who was pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, was found dead in a pool of blood in the room they had booked. .

The caretaker of the guest house said the two booked the room on Friday at around 8pm. The suspect, Collins Oluoch Ogweno, 25, a nurse at Nightingale Hospital in Kisumu is said to have killed Apondi with a machete. .

The deceased’s friend who spoke on condition of anonymity said Oluoch persuaded Valerie to move out of school even though she did not want to. This is not the first time the two have had a heated argument. The couple also have a child together.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said that in 2018, Nigeria will emerge better and stronger from the present condition of hopelessness and cynicism which prevails across the country.

He stated this yesterday while delivering his message during the 2017 Service of Nine Lessons and Christmas Carol jointly organised the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and Voice of Nigeria (VON) in Abuja.

The service of nine lessons which is basically the rendition of nine short lessons from Genesis and the Gospels, tells the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the messiah and the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Vice-President, who was represented by the Aso Villa Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Malomo, said just like the story of Christmas speaks of the birth of the messiah, there is a palpable feeling that something new is about to emerge; that Nigeria is about to be reborn and transformed in the coming year..

He said: “Often, the transformation of the country begins with hopelessness and cynicism. It may be that the nation has labored under oppressive and divisive circumstances such as poverty, inequality, bitter ethnic and religious division, and hate.

“But in the midst of poverty, corruption, ethnic and religious divisions, hope begins to be built in the heart of some people.

“A new vision is birth in the heart of these people that Nigeria can be reborn from the furnace of despair.

“In 2018, Nigeria will emerge better and stronger from its current state of hopelessness and cynicism,” he prophetically declared.

A 23-year-old mother from India had doctors in total shock when she gave birth to the country’s second ‘Mermaid baby’ whose gender was impossible to be determined but lost it just four hours later.

The baby born with fused legs was born with a rare condition known as ‘Mermaid Syndrome’ or Sirenomelia. It was the second such case in the country and fifth in the world.

Muskura Bibi had given its natural birth on Wednesday morning at the government-run Chittaranjan Deva Sadan Hospital in Kolkata, India.

Bibi, for whom it was the first pregnancy, had not undergone sonography and only learned about the baby’s condition when she first saw it after birth.

Dr. Sudip Saha, a child specialist at the hospital said:

“The baby had a normal formation in upper part of the body but below the waist, its legs were fused together.

The lower part was not developed completely. The parents are a labour couple and had not sought proper medication during pregnancy due to lack of money.

Due to lack of proper nutrition and improper blood circulation to the baby from mother can create this kind of abnormality in foetus. Unfortunately, such babies do not survive.”

A new twist has emerged in the succession drama currently playing out in Imo State. Henry Ezediaro representing Oguta state Constituency had last week claimed that the Imo state house of assembly had unanimously endorsed Rochas Okorocha's son in law and chief of staff, Uche Nwosu as next governor but the legislative body through its Speaker, Dr. Acho Ihim has distanced itself from the claim.
The Speaker, who reacted through a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Marcel Ekwezuo, said: “I am constrained to debunk the news making the rounds that the lmo State House of Assembly has unanimously endorsed Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as the next governor of lmo State come 2019. Uche Nwosu is one of our own and is eminently qualified to contest the governorship of our dear state.

“No doubt, he is a member of the APC and a citizen of lmo State and these therefore give him the right to vote and be voted for. However, it needs be made clear that at no time did the members of the lmo State House of Assembly which comprises elected members of the APC and the PDP meet and endorse Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as our preferred governorship candidate or any person for that matter.

“The job of elected members of the House of Assembly is to make laws and make resolutions at the plenary that will impact positively on the lives of the people of lmo State. Endorsement of candidates for whatever position is not part of it.

“Each member is at liberty to have preference for any aspirant of their choice but certainly not a House matter. Its therefore mind-boggling that a distinguished honourable member is quoted to have granted a press interview declaring that the 27 honourable members have endorsed Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.

“Yes, power comes from God and He gives it to whosoever He wills and if Ugwumba is favoured by God for this job then so be it. It is the duty of the APC as a party to produce a candidate and if that candidate is Ugwumba Uche Nwosu then the Honourable members of the APC extraction are duty bound to support the candidate.

“In the light of the foregoing, l want to believe that Hon Henry Ezediaro who is at liberty to personally support whoever he wants to support was quoted out of context by saying the entire 27 members have endorsed Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and even donated 27 buses.
“The entire lmolites are, therefore, advised to discountenance the said publication as that of course is the figment of imagination of the writer and has no bearing with the lmo State House of Assembly and her revered members.”

In reaction, Ezediaro remained adamant on the controversial endorsement, insisting that, “if the House leadership says it is not in support of the endorsement does it reduce the fact that majority of the House members met and endorsed Nwosu as the next governor? We are standing on our decision and very soon I am going to make the names of the said members public.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has declared the end to the country's war against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group.

"Our forces are in complete control of the Iraqi-Syrian border and I therefore announce the end of the war against Daesh," al-Abadi told a conference in Baghdad on Saturday, using the Arabic acronym for ISIL.

The announcement followed the recapture of Rawa, one of the last remaining ISIL-held towns, in November.

Since then, Iraqi forces had been fighting to retake the small pockets in the border area that were still under ISIL control.

Earlier on Saturday, senior military commander Lt General Abdul Ameer Rasheed Yarallah had announced the end of the fight against ISIL saying that "all Iraqi lands are liberated from terrorist Daesh gangs and our forces completely control the international Iraqi-Syrian borders".

Just six months ago, ISIL still controlled vast expanses of territory, including major cities, on both sides of the Iraq-Syria border.

The quick advance by ISIL in Iraq began in 2014.

The group captured important cities like Mosul, Ramadi and Fallujah.

But over the last year, ISIL has been driven out of much of Iraq and its self-declared capital Raqqa and Deir Az Zor in Syria.

In early November, Iraqi forces announced the recapture of al-Qaim, ISIL's last border stronghold in the country.

Saturday's announcement marks the end of the three-year war to drive ISIL out of Iraq.

Brett McGurk, US special envoy for the coalition against ISIL, congratulated Iraq on Twitter.

"We congratulate the prime minister and all the Iraqi people on this significant achievement, which many though impossible," McGurk said.

The Global Coalition, which as been supporting Iraqi forces in their fighter against ISIL, added that it will continue to "stand by them [Iraqis] as they set the conditions for a secure and prosperous future [in] Iraq".

Last month, al-Abadi said that the losses from the war against ISIL had cost $100bn.
