@ iice, Yay! I'm glad u liked the ones you've read so far. I really like Lisa Kleypas too (she's usually reliably good). . . Gaelen Foley's Knight series is like one of my favourite regency romance genre novels; the rest of her stuff, meh, not really "it" at all unfortunately. How do you feel about paranormal/fantasy romance- not the weird kind with alien kings with tentacles and 2 "y'know-whats"(don't ask) but like vampires, shapeshifters, dreamwalkers and things that generally go bump at night? Have you read anything by Sherrilyn Kenyon (she writes a Dark Hunter series that is really good) and Christine Feehan has a Carpathian (a.k.a. The Dark Series) series which is also really really good (well actually everything she writes is pretty good). . . @ topic, Comanche Heart- Catherine Anderson & Re-reading parts of North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell |
@ Montelik, I agree 150%. That's exactly it. Uti is too real for reality tv, and he lacks the sensitivity to edit himself and know what is and isn't appropriate for a conversation outside the privacy of ur closest friend's house. He talks anyhow and so u can see that's probably how he is in real life with his real friends. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate well to a large, cross-cultural audience. @ Blu Malam, I agree to a certain extent, but I think his major problem stems from insensitivity (not in a malicious way, just in an ignorant, immature way) and not always knowing what's appropriate to say and sometimes carrying a joke too far. He's loud and a little overbearing but I wouldn't say he's cocky or OVER-confident (confident yes, but not overly so). But I agree that he's not playing the game right. He's fine/ hot and pple were ready to like him, he should have just downplayed his need to stir things up just a bit and tried to be non-confrontational and he'd have pretty much had the 200k in the bag. But no he's setting himself up to be misunderstood instead and playing to type from last time. <sighs> Not at all a smart game. |
Uti is a spastic first of all. Everyone noticed that Uti was mimicking Kaone, even Code who most of the time walks around completely oblivious in a (I assume) codeine-induced stupor. This led to a showdown which as usual, Uti could have handled better, but given it IS Uti, he sha tried. Basically, Kaone had been feeling bothered by Uti's noticeably strange behaviour and so asked Yakob and Lerato for advice. Yakob advised Kaone to go have a clear-the-air talk with Uti, saying that Uti is a cool guy and a free spirit and very light-hearted, like after clearing the air with their talk they're really tight now. Lerato disagrees saying that Kaone should just leave matters be and that when the time is right to talk to Uti, he'll know it. Kaone chose to take Yakob's advice and approached Uti and was like why are you following me and mimicking me, I don't like it. Uti told Kaone he's paranoid and should ask for a shrink. And he wouldn't let Kaone land because he didn't know how to deal with the fact that he's failed his secret task. Instead of him to just let it go, throughout the conversation, he kept bringing up Kaone's "paranoia." He should have just let it get swept under the carpet especially when Kaone was willing to let it go after Uti jokingly blamed Lerato and other housemates (who's asked him what he was doing all evening) for feeding Kaone's "paranoia". Anyway, to bigger things. Uti and Kaone had a 2nd showdown from around 00:30. Here's how it went down: Kaone says that Uti has been harsh to him and cruel in his teasing (regarding monokini and headband). Uti says he's heard from multiple sources the smack that Kaone has been talking about him to his "little clique." Uti gets Kaone to inform him on the proper names for his traditional dress. Things can end at this point, but then Uti brings up Kaone's "paranoia" and "schizophrenia" and tells him to ask BB for a shrink. Kaone becomes a little offended and tells Uti that his joke is expensive and that the point of the whole conversation is to let Uti know that he doesn't appreciate Uti's jokes. Uti replies that he doesn't appreciate Kaone implying/saying that he's a bad example of a Nigerian (with the "Thank God I've met other Nigerians before Uti, they're not all like that comment" . Kaone was not really apologetic about the comment and so Uti tells him that the battle lines are drawn and the cold war has begun. Kaone disagrees and says that the point of the conversation was to clear the air. Uti tells Kaone that he has no right to say what he said earlier in the afternoon and has been saying since. Kaone then has the audacity to instruct Uti about the Nigerian dynamic. He asks Uti if he realizes that he's from a very small minority tribe in Nigeria and that when he's making comments and acting the way he does, he should make it clear that he's only representing his small part of Nigeria not the whole of Nigeria. (I almost died when he said this. I was like Uti's drama is totally stressing me out. LIke on the one hand, where does Kaone get off, but on the other hand, Uti is playing a game that will get him evicted really quickly, he is not a good liar or pretender, which in real life is good, but for the purposes of the game is not ideal. He dealt with kaone's insults well, though, only he didn't have to let things escalate to the point where insults came into it. Ah well. . . We shall see the implications soon enough. |
^^^^ Thanks sooo much!!! That's exactly what I wanted to know. It's strange. Jen is slowly growing on me. I kind of like her; she's playing her game in a smart way. This is the time to be quiet with occasional bursts of interesting-ness. Even Meryl, I like her; once you accept that she's not one to close her legs, she seems nice enough. I think these are probably the two that I am the least bothered by. I'd add Sheila, but sometimes she doesn't know when to shut up and listen; and Lerato, she seems alright but I don't trust something about her. Uti to me, needs a scoop of maturity because he's not playing his game properly at all. |
Wait, does anyone know what Uti and Kaone's fight was about? And what was said by whom? And what brought Paloma into the matter? |
The Young Victoria It was a really good movie, I don't know why I didn't watch it since!!! |
Uti was tipsy to drunk and you can totally see how he would be a loud and obnoxious drunk. . . He kept telling everyone SHATTUP. . . Anyway, he seems like he was having a good time and everyone gave him a good day. He's crashed now. . . before dinner, and is just lying down and sleeping in the couch outside . Hopefully he'll get up when it's time to eat. Ok, he's gotten up for a task now, albeit reluctantly. |
minotaur:No I know all about stubborn chins, it's one of those things one reads and wonders WTF and then moves on. I did also read mallory towers, st. clares, the naughtiest girl in school, famous five, secret seven and more. Good memories. I know how life gets in the way of reading for fun, although, reading is kind of my getaway, so I always make time for it. . . for the sake of sanity. I'll check out the Catherdral of the Sea also. @ topic, After a bit of thought, some that come readily to mind are: The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons The Good Earth by Paul S. Buck A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel The Red Tent by Kate Furnivall The Stieg Larsson Millenium Trilogy Of course all the Jane Austens |
Marina Gasolina- Bonde Do Role |
Tourniquet- Evanescence |
You're Not Alone- Home Grown |
Numb- Linkin Park |
Funhouse- Pink |
minotaur:Ummmm. . . Noooo!!!!!!! But major LOL, in fact ROTFL. No soft brown eyes, stubborn chins (btw what exactly is that? how can a chin be stubborn?), or faux hero-hatred. They still put the coupon and the opportunity to win a gift in the middle though, right with the hottest sex scene. I still like them though! That's funny you brought that up and put it like that o, though. Anyway, I wouldn't call Janet Evanovich's books "great" in a general sense, but for what they are, they're pretty good. If you're going to try one, try her Stephanie Plum series, the first book of which is "One For the Money;" it's definitely one of my favourite series to read. What about you? Any other "great book" suggestions other than Pillars? |
Yes I've read both Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. I liked them both but agree definitely that Pillars was better. It started a little slowly in my opinion, but it really picked up and you become obsessed with it and before you know it, you're finished. I do read a lot of novels (I'm not big into poetry, plays and non-fiction). When I was younger, I read more widely (in terms of more genres), now I tend to stick to what I like, although I'm open to trying new things. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is not by Janet Evanovich. It's part of a really excellent thriller/suspense trilogy by an author called Stieg Larsson (the books in the trilogy are The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, & The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest). Janet Evanovich is a totally different author who writes light-hearted romantic comedy suspense. So not at all related to the Stieg Larsson books. I just like her and her stuff is light and unserious fluff and sometimes it's nice to have that in a book, too. |
GTay:Wait, why did Jen vote Sheila? I thought she, Sheila and Lerato were like new BFFs. naijagal:I don't think she'll put in Uti. She seems to be cool with him now, plus she seems to dislike Lerato more. Probably she'll put in Lerato. Munya is such a major drama queen. His diary session is like he's on drugs or he's having a nervous breakdown. He's not really making sense. He says things and then contradicts himself in the next sentence. Big Brother asked Munya if he still wants to be in the house, after thinking for like a year (ok maybe 45 seconds), he says yes. And then all of a sudden, he's re-found his respect for Africa and our votes. Basically, as to the reason for last night's breakdown, it's because he didn't like the person he was becoming, and he's been trying to change and the house was changing him back to his old ways. . . or something. <rolls eyes> |
minotaur:I second this recommendation. I'm thinking about re-reading Pillars of the Earth at some point this month or in September so if you decide that you want to read it too, I'd be happy to share thoughts with you here. |
My choice is completely frivolous and not necessarily my favourite author in the world (although I do really like her). I'd pick Janet Evanovich. I don't think I have that much to learn from her, but it would be a totally fun night, and she seems like someone who doesn't take herself too seriously and would be funny and witty and just show you a good time and give you a light-hearted evening. However, if I wanted a serious conversation with an author, living or dead, then i'd totally pick Jane Austen, because she was witty and smart and insightful and wonderful at social commentary, but yet realized that we're all ridiculous and a bit pretentious even the best of us. So it would be good to discuss society and humanity with her. It's a hard question and there are other authors I could have picked, but just because I like someone's books, doesn't mean I want to have to sit and talk with them for hours. You don't have to like the artist to appreciate the art. |
Yakob is trying to alienate his people or something. If he's not doing Mr. America, he's talking down his country. Earlier this evening, he was telling Lerato how Ethiopian women, although they're very fine, don't have anything to say for themselves, don't know how to express themselves, are too downtrodden, try to hard to cater for their man, aren't strong and opinionated etc etc. And that that's why he's attracted to Lerato, because she's a strong, opinionated woman unlike women from his country. Everyone else is talking up their country or at least, trying not to yab them. Yakob is not. Does he think that it's Ethiopian MEN that will sit and be watching big brother to vote for him. Doesn't he know he should try to soften the way he says things: e.g. he could just have said "I like strong, opinionated women" without saying the women in his country are basically doormats. |
Some product reviews of some stuff I find amazing: Clinique 3-Step (No.2) 5/5 I know I'm jumping on to this bandwagon late, but this stuff is wonderful. I'm usually a Neutrogena or Body Shop girl for face care (I have used Clarins face stuff too, when it was gifted to me, and it was ok, but I returned to Neutrogena), and whilst my skin is not bad by any definition, it's not perfect either. I've seen people using Clinique 3-step for a while and I just always thought it was overhyped and overpriced. However, I was in an airport and I saw a special offer on the 3-step and decided on a whim to get it and try it. Let me just say I've found my HG. This stuff is amazing. I have dry-combination skin which means it's really hard to find products that are just right. . . The products for oily skin are over dry my dry areas and give me visible dry scaly patches and the products for dry skin turn my T-Zone into an oil slick. Like honestly, within days, my skin was completely on point. I've never had such smooth skin on my face. . . ever! It also does nice things like reduces the appearance of pores and prevents blemishes. So all in all, it's pretty perfect. I'll reb Clarins Moisture-Rich Body Lotion with Shea Butter (4.5/5- it loses 0.5 because it smells good, but a little too strong for my tastes Again, I've used and like Vaseline Cocoa Butter for years, and I still do. But I recently re-bought (a few bottles of) this (on sale), and honestly as much as I like the Vaseline CB, this is farrrr superior. It smooths your skin and makes it soooooo soft that you surprise yourself when you rub your hand along your skin sometimes. It's also really good at softening traditionally rougher areas like elbows, knees, and heels. It's really been helping me maintain my pedicure somehow. . . the soles of my feet are sooooo soft. Unfortunately, it's a bit too rich for my pocket, and as much as I love this and would love to use this forever, I don't know if it's a habit I can sustain in Nigeria right now. But if I could, I definiely would because it's worth it!!! YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils I love this Mascara. I used to use Neutrogena (Healthy Volume) and I really liked that. It is the first mascara I've used that doesn't leave clumps and actually separates and lengthens and thickens without smudging at all. It actually makes a visible difference. Most days I just use this with a bit of pencil eyeliner and that's it, and it looks pretty good. However, cost-wise, I don't know how feasible it is for me to keep using this as it's kind of pricy. But it's the absolute best mascara I've ever used! Revlon ColorBurst in Crimson (5/5)( I'm a red lipstick kind of girl, I admit. I don't wear a lot of make up (usually just eyeliner, mascara, powder and lipstick) so I like a red lipstick because it gives a bit of a boost and also the pop of color makes it look a little like I made an effort. However, it's really hard to find the perfect red lipstick in the right shade. I used to use Almay but haven't been able to find it in a while. And believe me I have like maybe 6-7 tubes of red lipsticks that I've bought and used only once because they weren't right. I recently saw Jessica Alba wearing the Revlon ColorBurst in Crimson in an ad, and I thought it was perfect (even though she's shades lighter than me). I managed to get a hold of a tube and it's absolutely perfect. It's the exact right shade of red (not too orange, not too purple) and I can see how it would fit a variety of skin tones. You can put on a light layer so it comes out kind of like a well-tinted lip balm (the way I use it) or you can build it up to a dramatic red for a striking night look. It also glides on really easily and doesn't make the lips look or feel dry or sticky and is pretty moisturizing. It does fade a bit as the hours go by, but it's pretty long-lasting and it gives a tint all-day (well from morning till when I wash my face at night). It's better than the almay, not expensive and really good. jovi:I'm relaxed but my mom is natural. She's mostly in braids all the time now, but when she wore her hair out, she used to go to this salon in V/I called Lolami (sp?) whose owner specialized in dealing with natural hair. They're located at LSDPC flats on Adeola Odeku (shop E5, she thinks), my mom hasn't gone in a while but she thinks they still exist. |
Tatiana, after breaking Munya down completely, and then having the strength of mind to go "play" with the other housemates audibly (from Munya's perspective), comes out and tries to Before she's out of earshot however, i.e. she's still outside, she playfully shouts Uti's name. Tati has real bipolar disorder. One second she's crying over Hannington leaving, the next she's dancing that she's the HOH again. Now one second, she's comforting Munya and acting like she cares and is concerned about him, the next she's singing "how low can you go?" She's a fun girl. . . but I'm beginning not to know what to make of her. |
After Tatiana told Munya the story of his life, he went to the garden when everyone was hanging out in the kitchen and started crying/ hyperventilating/ having an anxiety attack. Reality or Fiction?! He's making it look pretty real, and I'm feeling a bit bad for him. Basically, Tatiana told him that she thinks he's a bit 2-faced (from his season where he talked smack about his best friends in the house, Rico and Sheila. She also thinks he's playing a game, not a good friend, not trustworthy, too judgmental, and not trying to fit in/ get along with people in the house. It started off as a friendly conversation then kind of escalated. He tried to turn things on her and basically said that if she's as real and caring as she says, then she wouldn't have switched Hannington in for herself. That she too is playing a game. But our Tati is too clever for that, she re-iterated everything she said and basically gave proof for why she was saying so. Anyway, end result, Munya is lying in the grass in the garden, crying like his heart is broken, alone. And meanwhile the housemates (including Sheila) are playing and singing audibly from inside the house, oblivious to his breakdown. . Eya! In other news, what on earth is Kaone cooking this late at night?!?! Does he ever stop?!?! |
Animal print. I loathe it, be it leopard, zebra, tiger- whatever. No no no!!! And fur/ faux fur. Even if it's just a little embellishment or accent, I would never spend my money on that. |
BlueDiva:Ayyyy, I don't read a lot of straight crime fiction or suspense. . . most stuff I read has at least a bit of a romantic element to it. . . So I don't really have any recommendations, but I like Ken Follet (Apart from Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, Night Over Water is my favourite), and I recently acquired The Rembrandt Affair by Daniel Silva which a friend of mine who likes thriller/suspense recommended VERY strongly (haven't read it yet though, but it's supposed to be really good!) |
naijagal:After her crocodile tears and pretending to feel bad that she nominated Hannington just now. . . Ha! Tatiana!!! Stop showing your hand like this. Did you feel bad or not! Fakety Fake! It wasn't by force to like him! Munya is happy because he and Tatiana are tight, so he feels safe. |
Project Runway is back!!!!! Top Chef Season 7 |
Be Mine- Skales |
GTay:Wait "he" who? Sammy? Ehnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!! emmadinoyi:Paloma (on Thursday whilst gossiping with Tatiana) was like she thinks "Sheiluti's" chemistry is real because they're friends even outside the house. She also said that she thinks Hannington and Sheila and Meryl and Mwisho (well she could have meant Meryl& Munya but I doubt she'd talk smack about Munya to Tatiana who she meant because she said M&M so really. . .) are just for tv, like they're just trying to be interesting. Can't wait for the eviction show. I suspect that maybe 2 people or even all 3 sef will be evicted but will probably be sent over to the other "rustic" big brother house. . . or something . . . we'll sha see! |
Ay ok . . . those two are good ones. They're like book 2 and book 5 in her Knight series but the good thing is that like they make sense by themselves so don't have to be read in order! (I like Lucien too, but it's a little too close in sound to Lucifer for my personal taste )Catherine Anderson is totally wack but kind of addictive. All her heroines have like serious issues like blindness, deafness, muteness, paralysis, mental retardation, history of abuse, naivety to the point of not living on planet earth. . . and I mean this in every literal sense. It's kind of startling to the point of being a little disturbing at first, but then you totally get used to it, and then want to read more. Leave Betty Neels alone! (before I do my own Cris Crocker-esque vid on YouTube attacking you!) ![]() |
BlueDiva:Yay! I'm glad you liked them overall! iice:Which ones did you get? Speaking of my beloved Betty, I should read one. . . lol Hater!!! Betty Neels is awesome, she had me at dutch doctor (read her and you'll know what I mean). @ topic, I just acquired Catherine Anderson's entire collection of books so I've been on a reading binge of her stuff. Currently reading: Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson and on the side, re-reading: Mr Knightley's Diary by Amanda Grange |
I'm still proud of you, Falconets! Well done, ladies!!! Dis Guy:Well obviously on the day, they won the match. But we also had lots of opportunities to score and we could have wrapped this match up easily in the 1st half. I wouldn't say they were better in the sense that "oh we were sooooo outplayed and out of our league." The match was winnable. |
2-0! The commentator even had to say how slow we were moving. Like no urgency! This is what comes from sitting at the back for so long. Mistakes happen because no one can sustain pressure for that long. Even sef if we were like Inter (vs. Barcelona), we've sat at the back too long. At least we were not shamed. We also came to the party. We can still be proud and hold our heads high. Dis Guy:I disagree. We've put on a good show and could have equalized loads of time. Ok it's 2-0 now. But over the 2 halves, this has not really been a 2-0 match. |
. Kaone was not really apologetic about the comment and so Uti tells him that the battle lines are drawn and the cold war has begun. Kaone disagrees and says that the point of the conversation was to clear the air. Uti tells Kaone that he has no right to say what he said earlier in the afternoon and has been saying since.
then its a munya and uti showdown!

I saw a Betty Neels and thought of you
