yousouph:Seeing that the match contains the German ladies, I suppose I'm watching both. And that German girl was just offside. |
I'm a little concerned that at this point in the game we're not really going forward that much and that if anything we're kind of really under pressure. |
We've not really settled down completely into this half. The end of the 1st half we were more organized. The Germans are also challenging us a bit more. We can do it sha. Our goalkeeper has her moments, but on the whole, practically every goal we've conceded this tournament has been her fault in one way or another. I think Oparanozie is our best player. The girl is good! On a non-footballing note, these German girls really made up for this match, they're not playing. See the thick black eyeliner and mascara many of them are wearing. Some even painted their nails sef. Na wa o! Anyway, Come on Falconets!!!!!!!!! |
Sagamite:<Sighs> Ok. Fine. Go team go! |
T@meD0:God bless you! This is exactly what the Nigeria vs. USA thread turned into. Like soon there will be no space at all to be happy that we are at least succeeding in football in a little way, with our little team. |
asha 80:Oh I agree. because women's U20 football is just that, football. But there are those that feel it is linked in a very deep and meaningful way to ( /and is a reflection of) our general socio-political razzness in Nigeria. So I was extending that line of thought for that purpose. |
mama-gee:Ok, firstly, it's really patronizing to start anything with "let me educate you." Second, how did Hitler and Pol Pot enter the matter of Nigeria vs. Colombia in a women's u20 world cup match? Like honestly speaking, how? Aren't we just taking this a touch too seriously? I mean nothing in football, and i take football seriously, is even distantly related to mass genocide, ok? That's crazy talk to bring that into this little match. Also, anyone with an inch of sense, knows that most country stereotypes are at best outdated, and at worst offensive and mostly untrue. Apart from the German efficiency (although one could also quickly be brought to mind of "uptight nazis," but I know better), I don't really know anyone that still thinks of English gentleman (except maybe Americans who are still in awe of the British accent but are too provincial to actually go and see England for themselves) when they think of England, I know I think of Jeremy Kyle-types and WAG culture and people who used to be on Big Brother being ersatz A-Listers; Japanese people I thought lived singly in tiny cubicle-like apartments in Tokyo and never got married or had children, so I had no idea they were such collectivists, but there you go. More to the point. I doubt anyone's first thought of Nigeria is "o dem age cheats in women's U20 football!" And if it was, it would still be a step up from "o dem advance-fee fraudsters." I'm Nigerian, I would never not celebrate my team's win, never! As long as the match held, and FIFA okay'ed the players, what is my own. And who cares what anyone else is saying, if their team had beaten my team, would they talk age talk? As for friends and cousins, and building houses, the world has moved on a lot since the olden days. I'm trying to think of friends anywhere in the world who would sight unseen send their friends money to build them a house. Everyone everywhere knows that friends and money and business don't mix. It's unfortunate that people are untrustworthy, but I don't blame it on the U20 team. And not that I truly think they're all U20 (I suspect 2-3 are), but in their defense, I was at a local government secondary school last week for something, and many of those 14, 15, 16 yr olds looked like men and women who had seen life, because they kind of have. . . I'm still very much at a loss as to why it matters sooooo much how old these girls are. If only our politicians would lie about their age BUT STILL get the job done! If only they would lie, cheat and steal from the world FOR our benefit. I'd be a happy camper. There are sooooo many more things to be up in arms about in Nigeria than girls FIFA agrees are U20 (whether or not they truly are) winning a match. I don't really think it's that big a deal. It's certainly not worth all these pages on these threads. |
Sagamite:1.) It's just football. U20 Womens football. I don't think its the cause of Nigeria's ruination, and if it is indeed a symptom, then it's certainly one of the more innocuous and harmless, no? 2.) I think we've faced our shame and not rejoiced in our fraud extensively in the other thread. You aren't going to be convinced that they're U20, and the others aren't willing to be convinced/ don't care that they're not. It's pretty much been a few days. Do we have to start up the exact same thing here too?! |
Has the age argument come to this thread too?! Like ok they're overaged, it's been discussed to death, whatever! Can we move on and enjoy the fact that we're in the finals, and that age or no age, FIFA has approved that we're actually there?! Goodness!! Please people, let's just let it go, or at least keep it to the Nigeria-USA thread. |
Yayy!!!!! We win!!! |
alekside:Our no. 9 is fine. And no. 10 is also not bad. |
So far I've enjoyed Hannington's, Paloma's and Mwisho's presentations the most. Sammy tried hard to be funny, and he was but he's shoved that stick so far up his uptight bottom that even when he's a little relaxed and trying to be fun like now, it's not really gelling well. |

Isn't January kind of short notice? I mean since we don't even know the candidates (or really all the eligible political parties) yet, when will they campaign. . . or is there no longer a need to at least pretend to make nice with the constituents, having already long since dispensed with bothering with candidates or parties having an actual agenda (chop money doesn't count!)?? What about voter registration? And all the training and logistical aspects of actually running an election? Ah well. . . let them do as they like. . . |
@ Rheinmetal, Your commentary pieces are soooooo on point. Really great job with them. They're insightful and funny and all round excellent!!! As for Uti, his problem is his inability to shut up for a second. He needs to learn to think before he speaks. He can be sooooooo obnoxious. I was cringing with embarrassment because it was so inappropriate that he wouldn't let his joke about Yakob go. And it was the same thing with his defense of Ofunneka the night before. It's like you've stated your point just let it go. But honestly, I doubt Yakob was crying himself to sleep about it, he was just playing the game, and he's sooo transparent. It WAS unfair though of Big Brother to single Uti out to repeat the rules, but hey, Uti put himself in that position. He needs to learn some sensitivity and develop some maturity. As far as the housemates, obviously I support Uti because he's a Nigerian (although if he wasn't, I would be kind put off). . . but I haven't really picked a favourite. You all seem to like Mwisho. Honestly speaking, I'm not at all a fan of his. . . Something about him is off-putting to me. I'm still trying to find a fave though . . . |
mama-gee:They played well and all, but it was actually 1-1 and then 4-2 on penalties. The US, to be fair to them, wasn't actually "gbeaten" that badly. Our falconets sha are awesome and a joy to watch and hopefully go all the way! Go Falconets! |
ScreenDiva:Yes o. . . they were cooking fish and discussing girls. Re: Uti voting for Sammy. I would vote for Sammy too. He adds nothing to the house. And he DOES take himself too seriously. AND I would be quite happy never to hear him sing again! Really though, Uti is kind of obnoxious many times, and like I like that he's a cool guy, but he needs to tone it down a bit, and shut up a little more sometimes. |
^^^ I agree TOTALLY with you! The dress to me looks really cheap, like a trash bag challenge on Project Runway or something. . . I like and dislike the way the two divas wore it. I like J-Lo's use of the belt but don't like the necklace with the dress and I like that Rihanna kept her neck bare but I think she needed an accessory on the dress (like a belt). But I think I'll give this one to J-Lo. Rihanna's lack of belt makes the dress look even less together and more trashbaggy. |
What was going on with the stick and the Nigerian player and the FIFA officials? |
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! We win!!!!!!!! |
Jonathan ehhhnnn thank you o |
Penalties. . . Can we do it ![]() SSaemoenl:That's what I was just saying! |
naijagal:Is it the improvised ragga or the dry voice with which he sings that is the problem. I know he said he really wants to promote his album and music career in SA but mehn, what one has heard so far is not at all a recommendation for his music. . . |
I feel bad for hitv really I do, and hopefully they can bounce back from this. But they really need to step up their quality. Their EPL broadcasts were fine but it's like they didn't really bother with quality control on other stations is poor poor poor! Hi Nolly the sound and picture quality is sooooo bad. Like everyone know that production quality on home videos is bad, but on HiTv it's even worse than vcd and certainly wayyyyyy worse than Africa magic. With channels like BBC world where even when I went to their office the screen resolution is off (so it's not just my tv at home which by the way shows the dstv BBC world properly) little things like that show whether or not ur interested in quality or not. People keep saying that dstv had 15yrs to grow ok yes but there's alsobeen 15yrs of technology since dstv started, if you want to compete, u have to either scale down ur ambitions OR offerr something comparable. I mean it would be nice if in 2010 I could know what was showing when I turn on your service (especially since quite a few channels show some random programs and series with no particular order) without having to unearth my hi magazine (it would also cut costs from the necessity of mailing me the magazine). I agree that there are some nice Magazine programs on nigezie and hi nolly, however, they are mixed in with so much randomness that you seem to just randomly happen on them. I realize that SuperSport had wc rights but couldn't hitv at least have gotten local rights to just Nigeria matches from them like some local channels did? It is ridiculous to be showing a 2008 epl match when ur country is playing wc. Ok what about even something cheap and random like the on-going womens wc or even qualifications for the African womens football championship/womens world cup qualifiers which are just starting, I mean show us something current in the off-season. As for the other sports channels. . . At least show live or ok barest minimum recent athletics meets, not random old IAAF athletics from an undisclosed period where it's December but the sun is blazing high and hot in a Germany or Denmark meet. Show Nigerian athletics tryouts or championships or whatever, support local sports and make it accessible to Nigerian pple. What stops hitv from doing it's own fantasy league for Nigerian sports or something. Like I said, other than premiership, program quality is not it at all. On pricing, I feel like they were conducively priced for what they were offering, but in that case, they obviously paid too much for the epl rights to start with. And knowing this, they should have been raising money to develop more/ better content as opposed to trying to raise money to overpay for the premiership again. I hope this will be an opportunity for them to focus on improving their overall service now that their epl safety Suit has been taken away. Yes ok obviously they're a young company etc, but if u want customers to stick with u, u can't be making excuses like that in 2010 for poor quality, I'm sorry a customer can only be so sympathetic. There are models in Nigeria, africa and worldwide of what to do and what not to do. You've seen how dstv came and overran the Nigerian market (admittedly with bucketloads of financial support from their sa parent company) but still didn't the company start somewhere? When Glo came in, weren't mtn and econet already there? it's not the saMe but it's an example of how u have to keep coming up with new ways to grow ur brand to catch up with bigger players in ur market, otherwise be ready to settle for being 2nd class. We as nigerians (and I love those about us even as I realize it does us no favours) always have big ideas and plans and like to talk big talk and we're really good at that, but when it comes to actually matching up quality and product with the talk, there are always excuses. I really want to support our local enterprise but at the same time, when a customer is working for their money, it's hard to put up with a lesser quality product for sentimental or patriotic reasons particularly when u're not seeing any improvement. This is a big blow for hitv but it doesn't have to be the end. It might be a blessing in disguise and a good opportunity to step up the rest of their service and grow their brand without the heavy financial burden of the epl. |
I agree that Lerato's was the best. I also liked yakob's and sheila's. Hannington's was a bit funny in my opinion but he and everyone sha tried. naijagal: I agree o. I'd find it inappropriate and a little ill-mannered to in that setting to be like my country is the giant of Africa. It's like u can big up where ur from abroad without resorting to cliches that are only accepted in your country. |
I felt bad for Jen. She shouldn't have stopped, walked off, and restarted. She should have just kept on. Well, at least she finished. |
What was up with uti's accent/presentation style for his presentation. Was it like documentary-stylee?? Also, he addressed a lot of negative issues like the "civilian" war, and how the rest of the world perceive us as scam artists and bad people? Why didn't he say the things that are in Nigeria like geographical diversity and why pple should come?? If it's beaches, forests and mountains, we too have nah. . . He tried-ish sha but he came across a little crazy/ possessed or something. |
BlueDiva:Ok I'm glad u've gotten sucked in too. It keeps getting better from here. |
Is it just me or is jen's strategy to just disappear so that the other housemates forget to nominate her. To be fair, I don't watch 24jhrs but I NEVER see her saying anything, just nodding and smiling, and those are the few times I actually see her. Her English is good so I don't think it's a language barrier. I don't think pple (outside her country) are going to remember to vote for her so she might be in danger this week. Lerato has really chilled out from her season. It's strange and I don't know what to make of it at all. She is burned in my mind as a bit-ch so it's hard for me to like her even tho so far I kind of do. Is it just me or do the mics pic up yakob's voice in a really strange way, like almost sounds muffled or like his voice is too deep to be picked up clearly. |
Realize- Colbie Caillat |
Tatiana is really likeable but she gets too up close and personal with too many guys. Like before her head was in Yacob's lap and now she's pretty much lying down on code. Like can't she just talk to a guy without having to be like his blanket. It's beginning to be a bit annoying. . . especially since it's not letting me decipher who she's really after. ![]() |
T@meD0:I'm not doubting them as such. I mean bigger upsets have happened. And it's fine, it's not really so much better to have to face Korea Rep. We can do it. But out of the 4 editions of the competition that have held, the US has won 2, and they ARE the current defending champions. However, that being said, they are beatable if the team doesn't psych themselves out like I have. It's doable. I pray. ![]() |
