Hello everyone in the house...justwise, vicjustice et al I submitted my application along with that of my wife and 3 children on the 10th of March after clarifying all issues by way of "question posing" here. Exactly on Monday, the 23rd, I received the usual email... " Your visa has now been processed and ready for collection" Wifey went there today and to God be the glory, the whole family members were granted visas. My appreciation goes to everyone especially Justwise and Vicjustice for fielding my numerous questions that cumulated in the application's success. Thank you. |

Kindly avail me your thoughts on my dilemma as stated below: QUES 1. I and my wife 'playfully' (ie without any serious intention to immigrate) applied for DV 2012 and we didnt even bother to find out whether we won or not, though we didnt get any correspondence that we had been selected. Fastforward to 2015, myself, wify and 2 children are planning to apply for tourist visa to the US. Do you think that 'playful' DV application will not be our undoing now (cos I dont know whether our names will pop up in their system as people who have once applied for DV before(immigration visa) now applying for non-immigrant tourist visa) N/B: We have previously travelled as a family to the UK in 2013 and will be doing same this year. Thank you as I await your response. |

Vicjustice:Thank you VicJustice The total lodging bill is about GBP1350 for 6 nights and they totally deducted GBP200 from the account, that's the point. I dont have issues with them 'blocking' the amount inside my account (something like freezing that sum and making it unspendable but still in my account) but not deducting the sum out of the account, that was why I was a bit apprehensive and suspicious of that move as a scam. But so long and if I cancel the booking within time and they re-credited my account, we wont have issues but if 'story' wan enter their gist when i demand for a refund saying that they can't or won't refund, hmmmmm... Thanks bro. |
justwise:Thank you JustWise. Your perspective will be welcomed on the below also: On Ques 1 I have been able to address it based on your advice, Justwise and others after wide consultation. Thank you, God bless. On Ques 2 I eventually was able to book via my Mastercard Naira Debit Card after severally back and forth to my bank and calls to the hotel in Southwark. However, the funny twist was that the hotel debited my acct for GBP200 (A night's cost) (which totally exited my account) even though the terms of the booking is that I can cancel my booking at no charge to me on or before 20th July 2015. I called the hotel and the guy told me that when I come to the UK in July, I'll just pay the balance of my total lodging. I told him I hope I will be able to get a refund if I cancel my booking before July in the instance where I am not able to make my journey again. He said yes (but he did not sound convincing) The Hotel's area code SE17 3AN The issues now are; -Is this hotel trying to scam me? -Are they not just suppose to, in the extreme instance, block the amount in my account and not totally debit me pending JULY 21? -How will the hotel return my GBP200 to my card if I decide to cancel my booking? |

justwise:Thank you Justwise. I have initiated the process based on your thoughts which is also the general opinion but I'm a lil concerned about this new online form. There is no indication that my online form is linked to other memebers of my family that is applying alongside. How will our applications be recognised as linked and be treated as members of the same and one family. (Meanwhile on my wife's form...in the sections asking about: -Cost of the trip to you personally -cost of accomodation - available amount for the trip -cost of living expenses I filled "SPOUSE SPONSORED". I hope I am in the right path? NB: I am picking the bill for myself, wifey and 3 children for a 7-day trip, with an account statement balance of 3m with no lump sum lodgments. I dont know whether it will fly? Thank you. |
@JUSTWISE Good day to all the gurus in the house.I am back. Kindly help with your perspectives on the below ques. Q.1I want to apply for myself, my wife and childrenIn this VISA4UK form that they are currently testing- there is "Apply for myself', "Apply for someone Else", how do I apply for my wife and children?Being the sole sponsor and wanting the embassy to know that we are all applying as memebers of the same family, should I open different forms for her and the children one by one or use my log in and click 'applying for someone else' on my own application form page for each of them? Q.2 My GTbank ATM card successfully paid for my visa fees but I am having issues using it to comfirm my London hotel booking as the hotel kept saying they cannot charge the card. There is sufficient funds on the account to cover the hotel bill and the card has been used in the past to pay for online foreign purhases- both in the UK and US. What should I do considering the fact that I have keyed in this hotel details on my own application form which I have already paid for.Thank you all for your anticipated responses. TCann: |
earthrealm:Thanks for the response. I want to believe this a widely acceptable way to go! But going through this way of applying (using my log in page to create 'APPLY FOR SOMEONE ELSE' option for wifey and kids), how will our applications be linked and recognised as a members of the same and one family since my wifey is being spouse sponsored by me? |

GAZZUZZ:If I have N7m in my control here in Nigeria, honestly and sincerely speaking, I wont be posting less than 200k per month in profit and that's conservatively speaking. Am not joking or exaggerating...and I'll still retain my daytime job. As a young couple with just an issue on the way (with my experience of living and working in Las gidi in the last 8 yrs), you can survive pretty comfortably on 200k every month and lead an above average lag standard of living lifestyle. NB. I will never understand this "I want to relocate" frenzy, I just wont. I have taken my young family for summer vacation abroad and I wasnt too impressed. I dont know what will make me wanna go settle there when there is all these money to make in Las gidi, maka why!!.I just wont understand! |
sammily:Sammily, Please which bank are you using and how do you go about placing bid with your banch for primary market TB bidding? Thank you as I await your response. |
@Feelamong Please, can you help me with the details of your account officer? I have been frustrated enough by my account officer in one of the GTbank's branches, it's either most of these branch bank staff are ignorant of the workings of Treasury bills or they are just ready to frustrate one to accept the secondary market at their own rate. Pls advice me, concerning TBs, (since most of these branch bank staff seems ignorant of the workings of TBs), can I go to the Head office to initiate my TB primary market bidding by transferring my account to the Head Office branch or how do get a bank in Nigeria that will accept primary market bid from me and communicate my bid outcome through a formal email correspondence and receipting? Pls name the bank here and the branch to go. @Desanta Which bank are you using? I need to exit GTB for this investment purpose. Please, help me with all and every information that I need, to move this fund lying fallow in my current acct in GTB...send details to toni.cann@gmail.com |
Fredique:You will not be penalised. Given: 1. You intend to budget your trip on N1million (out of your N1.2million) 2. You are applying in April for a trip in August and naturally you will spend out of the money in your account for usual daily living and other credit inflows will enter your account also, say from April to the August trip date (Salaries) Summary Be truthful about the genuineness of the amount in your account and submit a conservative budget for your visa application. You never can tell, you may be checked up at your bank! Dont spend below your trip budget line (i.e following our example, at least, 150k can be spent btw April and August with a corresponding inflows too btw that period, leaving N1,050,000 at every point in time in your account) The objective of the financial status check in the visa application is to ascertain that you have an healthy inflows and outflows of transactions on your account (indicating that you have the present ability to bankroll your trip) and also to ascertain that your bank account transactions are void of fraud or terrorism financing issues.(hence why they frown at unusually huge money lodgement that cant be explained) I hope this helps. |

Good day Justwise, VicJustice and every other helpful soul in the house. Happy new year. God bless you all for the good work. My question: I intend to re-apply for the UK visas for myself, wify, 3 children. Visited in 2013 on 6 month visas as a family. My leave is mid-July, 2015 and intend to reapply by February ending or mid-March, 2015 (meaning I will have 4 months before our journey is embarked upon- Mid-March 2015 to Mid-July, 2015) I think I saw it somewhere here on this thread in 2013 that you can apply for a visa maximum of 3 MONTHS PRECEEDING the date of one's intended journey but am not really sure again and wouldn't know what the current rule says. 1. Kindly help me confirm when earliest I can reapply for the visas for a July journey 2. Kindly tutor me whether it's possible to state in the application specifically when you desire your visa to start counting from and whether such request can be entertained. 3. I intend to apply for my 3rd baby (1 yr old) who wasn't born when we travelled in 2013. Can 2 yr visa be applied for the baby too (irrespective of the fact that she's the only first timer on the crew) Thank you all. Vicjustice:Thank you VicJustice, God bless. Buh really, I'm not asking with the objective of wanting to know whether I'll be refused or not, if I apply 4 months preceeding my journey date. I just want to know whether home office policy supports it administratively. Kindly help do a lil research into it. Thank you. NB: I will appreciate further comments on the issue. @Justwise et al |

takedat: ...cant be better said! |
I have carefully read this thread from the 1st page to the last and it amuses me the points of view which everyone who has commented is viewing the issue from. Moreso as a father whom someone will come and ask for my daughter's hand one day(and I'm working at being very financially comfortable and giving my daughter the best training-home&schooling) There are 2 major points of view. 1. The 'wife's family is poor and wants to burden me' point of view Understandably so, any guy averagely doing well- earnings wise (and even the not-so-doing-well but having his manly ego in his throat) will want to run and cast all manner of aspertions at their lowly status. 2. The 'wife's family is rich and unnecessarily haughty and rude' point of view. This point of view's proponents have their valid points too- you cant ask me such a direct question as touching on my earnings and I wont feel uncomfortable and even such question as been rude. Now, to the issue at hand. It's a very tricky situation. Aligning my position to the 2nd point of view (Cos i intend to be rich and bring up my daughter as a well mannered girl from a comfortable home - no apologies pls.) People have marshalled this point that as a man who have laboured geniunely to build a business empire for himself, he will not sit idly back and have one irresponsible opportunist come from nowhere and treat their girl anyhow by not providing for his family or as a son-in-law, who may take over the management of some part of the family business with time, not being driven enough and given to vanities-partying, womanizing etc, I certainly wouldnt!. Take it or leave it, it is not fair and this is the real hard life for you! However, be that as it may, I wish the issue is that simple but it isn't. As a rich dad wanting to guide against my daughter running home frequently for rent, shl fees, etc support (I hate this part as I will rather want to support them voluntarily knowing fully well that they are capable & dont even need it as against something that I must do if I want to shield my grandchildren from some embrassing situations I couldnt envisaged for my own children), I have to look beyond what the guy is earning in the now and look out for the potential, drive, genuine love for my daughter, the 'drive to continually improve' attributes in him because as it has been reiterated on this topic that surely, he wont continually earn 20k. That is not the case in all the sitautions but there is a big BUT to that...he must be well positioned (educationally or other vocations-wise) and brimming with the can-do potential and drive to succeed before I will approve the position that 'a 20k of today is not a permanent one o'! Quickly, my cousin's story: We are close. He started dating his fiancee then (wife now) whilst just finishing his NYSC as at 2007 (mark the datelines) and working with an NGO on a salary of 15k per month. 2008, we went to visit the uncle of the my cousin's wife here in Lag (she lives with him & he's like the dad in Lag), (the man is doing fine, has his own company, stays in a lovely estate in Lekki bla bla). Very frank man, he asked my cousin what he was doing, what are his plans and said he was asking because he doesnt want his niece to suffer at all. The oko iyawo and myself kinda went through a mini interview drill for the few hours of our visitation but he wasnt too harsh but was frank and blunt.(In restropect, I learnt some things during that visitation) As at then, my cousin was on 50k/mth and he didnt have a car nor an apartment of his own and as 2009/2010 that they would eventually marry, his total was almost N3m per annum. He did his wedding without overly leaning for family support. 2014 (Tho, he had changed jobs about 2 times since 2009), he is on a N10m per annum now (I'm not kidding, he showed me his letter). The wife's uncle so regards him, not because he desires anything from him(cos he's a big man on his own and he doesnt know what my cousin was worth as as 2008 and what he worths now in 2015, but he knows my cousin is taking care of his family as a responsible guy- bought a car for his wife, family UK vac, decent neighbourhood apartment etc, so he could deduce). So its not about the 15k of now but the drive and God's grace to prosper you that matters. Last bullet to the proponents of both points of view: The issue is not as straight forward as you may wish it to be. Remember that you are a father or will be a father that will have a daughter one day. How do you ultimatley wish your daughter's quality of life to be in her own nuclear home, you being rich or not?
