TO ALL
good people of NL autos!!

When one buys a car registered and used in Nig from its Nigerian owner, what are the proper contractual and legal papers to make out, to legitimize the purchase for the new owner and to authenticate the change of ownership in the car.
Pls help me to specify clearly the papers to get from Govt agencies and the ones to sign btw the seller and buyer.(where necessary)

thank you as I await your responses.

Pls i need enlightenment on this ''10-YEAR RULE'' for cars shipped into Nigeria.
what's the effect of breaching the rule for someone that drives a just recently acquired tokunboh, not meeting this rule?

@inspired
Is it really true and possible for one to have his car brought in legitimately through the Nigerian Lagos port, properly cleared, genuine papers collected and all, today, and decided to drive it to Kaduna the next day, without any harassment and fear of the car been taken from him by any agency- customs, MOPOL, Fed Highway (barring any 'collection' by the big bros on our roads wink grin grin ), what needs to be properly done and acquired for such an harassment-free journey??

Honda have always made better deals and they make better vehicles than Nissan,

When it comes to Japanese Mobiles, Toyota and Honda have always taken the lead, Its not unusual to see more Honda and Toyota than Nissan.

Nissan Altima are not bad Vehicles at all, The Altima has always been a "compensation" for the flaws and/or Problems on the Maxima over the years

The Honda Accord is better rated to the Nissan Altima, On the Ranking on Mid Size cars, Honda Accord Takes the Lead.

YES , I do Cars Below 1 Million Naira, but realistically, the Higher the Budget, The Better You get.

The Nissan Almera is a European spec Vehicle, With 650,000 Naira, you'll get a good Nissan Almera Manual Trans With AC.

I don't Understand the traded Crossover part for the CR-V or Rav4. However, With 2m You can get a 2004 Toyota RAV 4 and a 2004 Honda CR-V.

Ds-advantages of Buying from Cotonou are if Customs Duties are not Paid, You risk your car Being Seized, If Customs duties are paid, You're good to go.

You need to Buy a good car With proper Duties paid and complete Registration papers , have all accessories, C- Caution, Fire extinguishers, Road Worthiness, etc.

For further enquiries, You can reach me on 08023050886, 08098900889 or email via enquiries@BLOCKED

Good Luck.

Thank you for the inspiring responses to my questions. smiley
As per the bold area, what i mean is the situation where Naija used CRV or RAV4 want to be sold thru you- how much can one probably land a neatly used one?

I'll soon call you up for proper discussion.

@INSPIRED
hmm, how lovely!! i guess in my 3 yrs on NL, i ve only breezed in and out of Autos section for say 3 times.
now that am actively shopping for a ride, i took my time to read all d pages from PAGE 1 till last!!! WOW, what a journey!!!
Inspired, you have come a long way and your reputation is what we lawyers say----'' RES IPSA LOQUITUR'', translated to mean ''the thing speaks for itself''
Your good deeds and biz delivery since 2008 (d starting year for this thread) speaks good volumes for themselves!!!

Now,on my case, i ve realized that in life, its only things you consciously seek to know about that you really at the end of the day get to have a mastery on and knowledge about. Since i ve decided to shop for a car, in the last 2 months, things that i ve come to know about autos amazes even my humble self!!

Am a 'long-b4-execution' planner, and this is reflecting in me beginning to joggle so many of d chioces available within d range of my budget and even see d limit to which i can stretch my budget to get d best of d best my budget can afford me, tho i intend to purchase it by mid-year, 2011. Lagos accommodation don drain me for this year o!! grin grin.

Somewhere in the earlier posts, i got d info that your auto office is not far from my crib- Surulere by Barraks axis, hence, i will give you a call and schedule a meeting.

@everyone
Sorry jare!!!! what is it wiv us lawyers sef?, talk, talk, talk wink grin
pardon my long epistle, it's my FIRST RIDE to be bought wiv ma kish grin, you will all feel me shey cos y'all av been down this road b4,, d emotions and all that goes wiv one's 1st ride. wink grin grin

Back to Inspired_m
tho, we will gist more over the phone and thru email, i ve a few ques to ask here!!!!

1) what's your opinion on 03/04/05 models of Nissan Altima? is there any significant reason why these models re few on naija roads? (have been observing closely of late- for every 5 EODs that pulls up on besides you, you get only 1 03/05 Altima or none at all!!)

2)what's your opinion on the drive feel of 2005 Altima and 2005 Honda Accord-EOD and other comparative points btw these 2 cars?

3) Someone once asked you in earlier posts, whether you do rides below a 1 million naira, i doubt it you answered. PLS DO YOU DO THEM?

4) Pls, what is the price for a Nissan Almera, hatch back, A/C, manual, 4 doors, very clean one? (this is not my ride o, a female colleague needs it as a beginner car to learn manual driving experience) (I dont know whether it has multiple-year models too, enlighten me pls!)

5) Is it possible to buy a traded crossover (CRV or RAV4) for less than 2m or earlier models of them (tokunbo) for 2m?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE, GOD BLESS YOU ALL!! grin grin grin

EducationRe: Mathematics Versus Law by TCann(m): 1:58pm On Nov 28, 2009
(Law may be difficult but not in the league of mathematics at all.
(whether its maths in general or the various aspects like Engring maths)

Growing up, all the people i know who went on to do courses like law just could not handle maths.)

Putting the issue in perspective- talking about studying maths in general in comparison with law vis-a-vis their level of toughness, dont partake in following the ignorants in preaching the sterotypical message we 've always heard since secondary shls days-''i didnt go to science class cos i couldnt pass maths'', things are changing though still slowly.my point? i know of lawyers (law as their 1st degrees) who while studying law blasted ICAN and ACCA with ease(meanwhile they had C6,D7 in maths) and qualified as they were graduating from LAW,ask around in Lagos and some other places and u'll marvel at the numbers of Lawyers who are ACA,ACCA qualified,-b4 u crucify me about the relationship btw ACCA and maths, ask around and let them inform you about the mathematical and applied maths contents of those prof exams(at least that's maths-in-general).Still talking sterotypes; I kinda need more explanations about this left and right hemisphere brain thingy,if u ask me?its crap. You cannot pin anybody down to a particular field and anybody can be anything and everything, no matter the percieved difficulty level, no be God?-lol

busybody20:
I must be getting old! Your post seems to be so full of acronyms that one might need a thesaurus to understand it. What do you mean by MNC and CF?

Back to your question, I think it depends on what you'll like to do in future and where you are in your career trajectory. Where do you see yourself, say in the next 10 years?

This is what I'll do if I were in the same situation:

I'll choose auditing in a big 4 (not Dafinone or FH what?) if I don't want to specialise in any industry now and I want to specialise in Audit or Financial mgt. Someone starting from financial audit can end up as a CEO,a Finance Director, a Chief Accountant, a Chief Internal Auditor, A partner in an audit firm, a business unit manager. All the foregoing are endpoints for the purpose of illustration. It does not mean all auditors will end up that way. A good number of auditors will end up just as auditors!

I'll choose Vetiva or Greenwich if I want a career in investment banking (which is actually very good). It actually depends on what role you're being offered there! If you're being offer roles say; dealer, analyst, research, etc. I can go on but you can start here. http://www.wikijob.co.uk/wiki/investment-banking. Like my example in audit above, you can end up as a CEO of a bank, a head of Treasury of a company or you might end up in the role you started with.

Everything depends n your ambition and your drive and how well you prepare yourself for higher responsibilities. While it is good to look at economic climate in choosing a career, you certainly don’t look at short time climate in arriving at your decision.
Busybee, you re not getting rusty, those were just basic finance acros-CF=corporate finance; MNC=multinational coys, IB=investment banking etc as the case maybe. thanks tho for your insightful response.

Looking forward to more responses.

Hi all,
Av been away from the house for quite a while, story plenty, will come to that l8a.
This ques goes esp to the experienced, humane and truthful-with-d-answer persons in the house (eg TOS)
For an ambitious guy trying to ascend to higher realms later in his career, esp MNCs; will a job offering/audit experience (say some 3yrs and abv) in a medium size audit firm like Dafinone or some name like FH audit you ve probably not heard of, get him to progress on to MNCs or a path of say some IBs like Vetiva, Greenwich(doing research or CF) and some other known stockbrokerage firms, considering the economic weather and its unlikely nature to clear soon,as a consideration yardstick for both senarios.Which path will you advise and pls give concrete reasons.

Thank you in anticipation of your kind and well thought through replies.

NB
the guy is qualified for both senarios-ie for stkbrokerage, nigerian CIS and Auditing, ICAN ACA.

CIS ANNOUNCES NEW EXAMINATION STRUCTURE
- June 17, 2009

EXAMINATION SCHEME

The new CIS examination program cover all the important topics related to securities and investment, stockbrokerage and portfolio management. The broad areas in which the body of knowledge is developed and the candidates will be examined, are divided into Two Levels.

Level 1: The Level 1 examination will have 4 Papers of 3 hours duration each. The Level 1 Exam format will consist of multiple choice, calculation, and discursive and short essay questions. This examination will test the basic knowledge and understanding of the areas of study.

Level 2: The Level 2 examination will have 4 Papers of 3 hours duration each. This examination will test in depth, knowledge and practical application of all subjects covered.

After meeting the conditions for admission as Associates, successful graduates will be admitted to full membership of the Institute as Associates.

After successful completion of the Level 2, the CIS candidates will be eligible to sit for the final examination of ACIIA if they wish to do so when CIS is admitted as a member by ACIIA.

The areas to be covered under all the 2 levels of the National Examination Program, with different degree of depth and coverage are as follows:

• Financial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis

• Economics and Financial markets

• Quantitative Techniques

• Corporate Finance

• Equity Valuation and Analysis

• Fixed Income Valuation and Analysis

• Derivative Valuation Analysis

• Portfolio Management

• Commodity Trading and Futures

• Ethics and Professional Standards

• Law relating to securities and investments

• Regulation of Securities and Corporate Finance

(NB-the new syllabus will be flagged off by the 2010 sept diet)

CIS INTRODUCES CREDIT SYSTEM

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has issued the results of the last sitting of the March Professional exams, saying that the pass rate was not encouraging in Level 2 but was fair in Levels 1 and 3. Level 1 exam consists of 5 papers while Levels 2 and 3 have 4 papers each. The general poor performance was attributed to inadequate preparations on the part of the candidates.

To ease the burden of performance due to the rigorous nature and the high standards CIS demands, in their meeting of Thursday, May 14, 2009, the Governing Council approved the introduction of the credit system for its professional examinations starting from September 2009 diet after considering the positive effects it would have on performances of the students taking the examinations.

The credit system will allow candidates to retain any examination paper passed in the professional examination levels of the CIS qualification. Candidates are required to complete an examination level before attempting the next examination level. They are not allowed to combine two levels of the examination at any sitting.

A candidate will be required to enter for all the examination papers in each examination level. No candidate will be allowed to apply to sit for one examination paper unless the other examination papers have been previously passed or exempted.

Under the referral system which was operated till March 2009, students were referred in not more than two subjects provided they achieved certain minimum marks. They were also required to pass the referred examination papers in the following two examination diets otherwise they had to repeat the entire examination subjects.

The new policy now makes it possible for the students to keep those papers they pass and write the remaining papers at their own convenient time subject to passing the entire exam within a period of eight years. This is a welcome relief for students given the rigorous nature of the examination. It will also go a long way in improving the pass rate in the examination.
CareerRe: Which Are The Top 10 Law Firms In Nigeria? by TCann(m): 6:53pm On Jul 03, 2009
Banwo and Ighodalo
Punuka Law Firms
Matrix Solicitors
AELEX
Taiwo & Abdullahi
Jacksonetti&edu
Udo Udoma
Aluko and Oyebode

This are hardcore full service commercial Law firms.
It is going to be  most unlikely that as an investment banker on IPO & M&A deals in Nig some yrs ago, one have not worked with these ffg law firms
Most of them featured prominently on those major deals as Solicitors to the offer, or as legal advisers to those coys and banks.

Though,it is difficult to rate them on a top 10 list basis, since most of them av their clients and markets, it depends to a large extent, which circus in the financial arena the law firm partners are romancing with in relation to what deals their firms grap.

Just my little obsevation.

Cheers y'all.
