Politics / Boko Haram Kill At Least 43 People In One Day by TechWalker007: 8:08am On Jul 26, 2015
Boko Haram insurgents continue raiding the villages of the northeastern Nigeria. Only yesterday the attacks were launched in Maikadiri, Kopa, Maikadiri, Yaffa and Kwata Mai Tagarri.

Vanguard reports with reference to Maikadiri resident Simon Templer that the insurgents stormed the town in the morning of Friday, July 24, and started shooting sporadically.

Another witness, Markus Ali, said they had counted 21 corpses after the terrorists had fled.

Maina Ularamu, Madagali district head, disclosed that two other nearby villages were also attacked, with four people killed in Yaffa.

“The gunmen arrived on 10 motorbikes, two or three on each bike and attacked Kopa, Maikadiri and Yaffa… Now they have no limits and they are preying on their own community because of the pressure the army offensive has put on them… They attacked their community because they would not let them back when the army attacked their camps. Those who tried to come back were denounced and arrested by the authorities.”

Borno state police officer, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed the attacks.

According to Sahara Reporters, at least 18 people were killed in a yesterday’s return attack on a small Borno community bordering with Adamawa state.

The information was disclosed by local vigilante who said that Kwata Mai Tagarri near Lassa in Askira-Uba LGA was raided by the insurgents in two vehicles and on a motorbike.

Dauda Yusuf said:

“They came exactly 6:30 a.m. and continued their operations till around 10 a.m.,‎ without anyone to challenge them. They killed at least 18 people… It is just unfortunate that when we are supposed to be farming, we are chased out from our homes.”

Another vigilante source lamented that there was practically no military presence in their area:

“We don’t have military presence in our villages except for Askira Uba town. It makes us vulnerable to the attackers. They have succeeded in almost wiping out our people.”

Politics / Buhari Goofs Again: Says Chibok Girls Were Abducted From Their ‘hotels’ (video) by TechWalker007: 7:51am On Jul 26, 2015
The aftermath of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States recently would not be forgotten so soon as the President, while speaking to a group of Nigerians in Washington D.C, mistakenly mentioned that the school girls kidnapped last year in Chibok local government in Borno state, were abducted from “their hotels” instead of “their hostels”.

While speaking at the United States, National institute of Peace, Buhari said: In the face of abduction of innocent school girls from their hotels, indiscriminate bombings of civilians in markets and places of worship, our forces have remained largely impotent, because they do not possess the appropriate weapons and technology which we could have had.

Buhari has made several slips in the past, some of which include calling his own party, All Nigerian People’s Congress, referring to his vice as, Yemi Osibande instead of Yemi Osinbajo. Also during his trip to Germany, Nigerian president referred to the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel as President Mishelle and called her country West Germany.

It would be recalled that President of the United States, Barrack Obama also Goofed during the meeting with the Nigerian President, saying Nigeria is a country in East Africa.

Politics / Kano-port Harcourt Train Services Begin by TechWalker007: 7:33pm On Jul 24, 2015
Train services from northern Nigerian State, Kano, to Pot Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, have started, twelve years after the Nigerian government launched a revitalisation project of the railway.

The mixed service train will leave Kano to Port Harcourt every Thursday and from Port Harcourt to Kano every Tuesday.

At the commissioning ceremony of the new trains in Kano on Thursday, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Cooperation (NRC), Adesiyi Asijuwade, said train services in Nigeria was back on track.

The first Kano-Port Harcourt mixed train services was in 1914, technically carrying both passenger and goods from the north to southern part of Nigeria.

However, in view of the ongoing efforts by the NRC, train services are now being resuscitated in phases across Nigeria.

Two 68-seater air conditioned modern first class passenger couches had been put in place to traverse a rail distance of 1,139 kilometres, stretching from Kano to Port Harcourt, with stops at some cities across Kano, Kaduna and Benue among other states in the south.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by the Speaker State House of Assembly, Alhassan Doguwa, assured the corporation of the State government’s continued support and patronage.

At the event, the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sunusi II, urged the management of the NRC to ensure continuity of the train services at an affordable price in order to allow free flow of economic exchange between the south and northern parts of Nigeria.

“We are indeed happy that train services from Kano to Port Harcourt have returned and we pray that Allah will ensure the continuity of the program and may it be a source of our economic strength,” the Emir prayed.

During the British colonial era, train services were regular and one of the best means of transportation in Nigeria, but lack of maintenance of the infrastructure led to a huge setback in that sector, forcing business owners to rely solely on the use of trucks for the movement of goods from one part of the nation to the other.

The dearth in the sector further affected the movement of agricultural produce from farm settlements that were located in towns where the rail line traverse.

The resuscitation of the train services will no doubt bring succour to farmers that may need to move produce from Kano to states along the rail line and in southern Nigeria.

ThisDay is totally shameless in this reporting.
This is too amateurish to have come from a newspaper with trained journalists.
The right statement and which other papers correctly reported is that the governors said "5 LGA were still being occupied by BH".
In other words, these 5 LGA had not been liberated from the grips of BH out of the total number they previously held, not that they were newly captured or recaptured by the insurgents.
This kind of childish opposition news reporting self!

Some of you have no shame. And you didn't read that it was security report from NEC meeting?
Is it because pro-APC media is silent on it?
Anyway, news filtering in is that our troops recaptured one town today.

Boko Haram Captures Five LGs in Yobe, Borno, Targets VIPs

The National Economic Council (NEC) has warned that Boko Haram insurgents are waxing stronger in the North-east, adding that the terror group has captured five local government areas in Yobe and Borno States.

Briefing State House correspondents after its meeting yesterday in Abuja, the council said the occupation of the five local government councils was confirmed by the Governors of Yobe and Borno States — Ibrahim Gaidam and Kashim Shettima — respectively.

They also informed the NEC that the insurgents were still hiding in Sambisa forest, the stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents, and called for increased military deployment and provision of sophisticated military equipment in those areas.

The disclosure was a disappointing departure from the accomplishments of the Nigerian military and the neighbouring armies of Chad, Cameroun and Niger, which recaptured all the territories occupied by the sect and had the insurgents on the run before former President Goodluck Jonathan handed over to President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29.

Since Buhari, a retired military general who has sworn to defeat Boko Haram assumed office, the sect has stepped up attacks in the North-east and is estimated to have killed more than 600 people in less than two months.

Also at the NEC meeting, which was presided over by its chairman, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, the vice-president disclosed that security reports had revealed that garbage scavengers were being recruited by the sect to dump refuse laden with bombs at the residences of very important persons (VIPs).

He however did not disclose which homes or the names of the important personalities that were being targeted.

Also, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode while briefing journalists after the NEC meeting, said that the state governors had been advised to reduce the cost of governance in their respective states.

He said NEC agreed that the current cost of running government was not sustainable.

The council said it received a presentation from the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on the update of restructuring of bank loans for the states and payment of salary arrears.

The governor informed the council that following meetings with banks, it was agreed that existing commercial loans should be restructured to a minimum of 20 years.

He added that states could opt for either of two options: the bond option which will attract a market rate; and the debt restructuring option which will attract a single digit rate of interest.

At the end, the council resolved that a four-man team made up of the governors of Bauchi, Rivers, Ondo and Osun States should follow up with the CBN to ensure that the issues of Excess Crude Account (ECA) collateral for the states is sorted out by next Tuesday.

The council also received a presentation from the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance on the status of the ECA.
The permanent secretary took the council through the summary of inflow and outflow of excess crude savings from January 2011 to July 21, 2015, and informed it that the account currently stands at $2.078 billion.

The council directed the Committee on ECA to work with the accountant general's office to resolve the gaps observed in the presentation.

At the meeting, governors from the North-east and North-west presented updates on the insurgency in the North-east and other criminal activities like cattle rustling and banditry in the North-west.

Governors of Yobe, Borno, Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Plateau and Bauchi States took turns to inform the council of security concerns in those states.

On cattle rustling and banditry, Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai told the council that most of the cattle rustlers were in the Kumuku National Park, adding that if not properly handled could result in another Sambisa forest.

The Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola suggested that socio-economic angle should be introduced in addition to the military intervention to deal with the Boko Haram problem.

Osinbajo, in his remarks, regretted that the insurgency had affected the economic life of the North-east and the country as a whole.
He called on the council to speak as a team and put pressure on the service chiefs to increase their effort in fighting the insurgency.
“There should also be increased sensitisation and education using channels like radio, television,” he added.

Meanwhile, the 36 state governors have resolved to hold discussions with Buhari to seek a lasting solution to the worsening macroeconomic challenges confronting the nation, especially on how to achieve foreign exchange stability.
In addition, the state governors, under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), have said that no state has received bailout funds from the federal government.

“The value of our national currency, the naira, has since the beginning of the year persistently plummeted against other international currencies, especially the US dollar, thereby causing inflation,” the governors said at the end of their meeting Wednesday night.

Addressing journalists, the Chairman of NGF and governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, said the governors resolved to meet Buhari to find ways of addressing the worsening economy situation in the country and also to create a clear policy direction for the country in order to stimulate domestic production.

While clarifying the situation on the bailout for the states, the governor explained that the money shared by the states was their normal statutory allocation from the tax paid to the federation by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) company and the Federation Account allocation through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

“This is to inform the media that the federal government has not given any bailout to any of the states. What was shared last time was monies from NLNG and FAAC, and as we have been saying, we have not been looking for a bailout.

“Instead, we have been looking for all monies that are in the coffers of the federation, most especially, we are talking about some of the monies that have been in the coffers of government that need to be brought together for the purpose of sharing by the states,” he said.

The NGF chairman further explained that based on concerns raised by the CBN governor that “taking the monies from the Excess Crude Account, most especially as our (foreign) reserves are going down and will affect the exchange rate, putting the naira under pressure, the government decided to make a special intervention fund available so that this can be accessed as loans by states for us to pay salaries”.

Yari said: “We are not taking any bailout from the federal government and the federal government did not give us any bailout. But we are talking about how best the intervention fund will happen within the next few days, so that we will be able to settle the issue of salaries and other operations in the states.”

The resolutions of the governors after the meeting read: “To discuss with Mr. President to seek lasting solutions to the worsening macroeconomic challenges confronting the nation, especially on foreign exchange stability.

“To work with Mr. President to ensure coherent policy actions that will create a clear policy direction for the country and stimulate domestic production.

“To collaborate with the federal government to ensure that the National Health Act is operational and the one per cent funding for primary health care is provided for in the budget.

“Sequel to the presentation made by the country representative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the forum agreed to aggressively support the total eradication of polio in the country.”

What Buhari said is enough to start a war.
It's like saying, don't vote for me and you won't get FG presence.
If this is not bigotry, i wonder what else is.

This also explains the selection of his team that went to USA.
It also explains his recent employment and the imbalance with regards to Federal Character.
It explains the $2.1b he has borrowed to develop North East without going through NASS.

Politics / VIDEO: Buhari Suggests Regions That Voted For Him Will Be Treated More Fairly. by TechWalker007: 11:58pm On Jul 23, 2015
President Buhari's asked a simple question about inclusive development, Nigeria Delta, Amnesty, he went on talking about regions and the percentage that supported him.

This is shocking as one can remember Buhari won Northern votes overwhelmingly in 2011 yet his predecessor didn't marginalize his region.
In fact, the North saw more development under Jonathan than Bayelsa State.

Another example would be to hear Obama talking about being favorable to those who constantly vote for Democrats over states that are persistently voting for Republican Party.

This is shocking to say the least. Not to mention that the anchor had to explain what inclusive govt is to him before he could understand the simple question.

Buhari's handlers must do more. We cannot keep having this kind of embarrassing outing.

@eggheader: At noon in Voting Point 'A' of PU 25/07/10/003 (Agaba PU, Garaku Ward, Kokona LG), 88 voters came out with 56 having finger print issues.

Now imagine if this was election day.
