I'm earning above the minimum wage. You can earn above 30perhour on some jobs. Some students work above 20hrs per week but you are not suppose to work more than that during session. You can work for 40hrs/wk during semester and session breaks.
eclecticbaron:

Good to hear from someone currently residing in Tasmania. Thanks bro, your message is very encouraging. I'm glad to know that it's not all gloomy in Tasmania in terms of work. Please a few quick questions, are you working more than the required 20hrs/week? Or you are doing more, and are you earning the minimum wage or you are able to make more money? Thanks brotherly. God bless you.

Hello bro, glad to know you're coming to Tassie. I'm currently studying in Launceston Campus. Before i left naija, i heard all stuffs about Tasmania in terms of job. It's true that you can't compare Tasmania to other cities on the mainland as regards job. But i can tell u that irrespective of where you are in Aussie, you can get jobs. Its only based on your believe and intensity to look for one. I have barely spent 4months here and i can't even count the number of jobs I've been involved in. I currently have two stable jobs with all the rant about no jobs in Tassie. It's been God's grace so far tho but u also have to put in effort and explore all possible options without trying to be selective. Hobart is even far better than Launceston in all ramifications. So don't be worried , just go ahead and apply for your visa. I wish you all the best.

Greetings house. I have been following this thread for a while, and I must say that it is quite insightful. Thanks to everyone that has contributed in one way or the other, please keep up the good work.
Please I have a few questions, please is there anyone in the house that is familiar with Hobart, the University of Tasmania to be precise? I have an offer to do my PhD research in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on condition monitoring. If anyone is familiar with that area(i researched it, it's a little island state), please what are the job prospects like? I have a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering and an msc in Maintenance Engineering. Thanks.

I bought my car 800 aud with about 5months rego. Camry executive. Owner bought a new car. 9ja guy sef. So you see its not good to generalize. Car has been even healthier than range rover and speeds like die. Ticket wanted to kill me cos car movement na fire. Just 800 aud. I know a guy that bought 300 aud. No rego and no issues. Life no who you know. On a good day cathcist ga enye mass. [qquote author=bligs post=64834151]
I got my car for AUD1,300 with 4months registration left and had to pay around AUD400+ for the roadworthy, no single issue whatsoever since i have been using it, Ford fairmont 2001, the reason why the owner sold it was she acquired a brand new SUV and i have a friend that was lucky to get camry big daddy with 8months registration and roadworthy cert for AUD1800, the reason is the owner was moving overseas. If you are familiar with Gumtree and facebook market, you will see ppl selling cars for rediculous amount, some due to upgrade while some moving to overseas and wanna give there car out in exchange for token amount.

Wow.. Thanks! But what's the implication of that over there?
bligs:

Sure, even lesser but it may not come with roadworthy certificate and registration.

Bro, you've been very supportive on this thread. God bless you mahn. Please i would like to ask, can one get a ride for aud1500?
bligs:

Then you can't drive and if caught while driving without a license heavy fine and you may face a magistrate court.

There is no two ways about it, you apply for license and will be put through some test both driving and computer base, if you scale through a learners permit will be issue to you for a year with 12points, if you don't exhaust your points through penalties for the first years, your license will be upgraded for the second year and you get your full license in the third year.

I just arrived in sydney and I came in with good amount of Nigerian foods like ogbono, egusi, crayfish, dried pepper , maggi chicken and other stuffs . But I made sure everything was blended to powder form , avoid coming in with seeds, and fresh foods like fish and any other thing that is fresh cos they will be rejected.i even came in with some drugs for cold , catarrh and pain reliefs. everything passed through without any hassle.

visa grant October 11th.applied June 6th had to defer when resumption date passed.Course is Master of research western Sydney University.I called embassy last month to ascertain status and I was told since I deferred they will only attend to my application 4 months to resumption date which is November/December according to them but I made them understand 4 months is early October cos my new resumption date is Feb 5th.October 5th I sent a mail with all my details telling them it's over a 120days applied as per their decision turnaround time.I also told them i got an offer in Germany and my enrolment deadline is this october so I need to know my fate in order not to miss out on other opportunities. They replied saying February was far off and they decide 4 months prior .I replied telling them it is four months to my resumption already stating my need to know if I am going to Germany or not.I got a reply they were working on my application.Today I got the visa grant email from my agents pfl but the grant date is October 11th.wanted to share with others like me who were in limbo for months unend.Thank God that the labour was not in vain as right now I do not really know if I will be going to Australia or not cos during the Long wait I started other good stuff that may even be better off for my family and I.
