@coi,

thanks for your concern about the need for HR Professionals to close ranks on this forum. Well, you have thrown the challenge, lets see how best we can share knowledge here and be the better for it.

With regards to the issue of HR as a 'Non-Profit centre' My response goes as thus:

Yes, Personnel Management (the percussor to HR) started out (more) as an administrative function. But, over the years HR/ Human Capital Management has grown to be bigger and beyond being just an appendage to the organisation. (I wonder if I am not beginning to sound like a teacher here. If i do, my apologies please.)

According to a renowned scholar, an organisation can confer competitive (Strategic? I wonder which it is now!) and sustainable advantage on itself through focus on four key areas: Strategy, Processes, Technology and People. If this be true then, it means those obsolete and purely administrative approaches hitherto employed will not suffice in the current day and age. Thus, in the transformation into HR/ Human Capital Management, HR's role has since become (as stated in Ulrich's Model) that of Strategic Business Partner, Change Agent, Administrative Expert and Employee Champion.

The challenge from the foregoing is for the HR Professional to review the four domains of Ulrich. Thereafter, we as professionals should design, deploy, continually monitor, evaluate and adapt various HR Programmes tailored to meet the (ever changing) needs of our different organisations. Though HR has the arduous task of 'managing people'. However, don't forget that the line managers are actually managers of people too, alongside their responsibility for managing resources and the bottom-line.

Our ability to manage people as HR  Professionals should go beyond the 'casino'/ administrative side of the 'business of the organisation Foremost on our minds should be the need to truly understand our organisation's business then find means of partnering with the organisation to design and deploy programmes that would result in better leadership, improved performance management, excellent reward and motivation (within the context of the organisation's ability to sustain this), resourcing e.t.c., e.t.c. among others.

I guess I need to pause here. I hope I have made sense, though. If there is need for further cclarification let me know, I would gladly do this.

Thank you.

PS. @yemmight, i said this in my earlier post on this thread, and i am going to repeat it again - You have indeed tried to sustain this thread. Well done, and best wishes.

Hi saujee/ sly,

could you kindly help me check this VIN out. 4T1BE46K57UO15912.

Please your VIN is not correct. - The letters "I", "O", and "Q" never appear in a VIN.

I believe the I is (one), O is (Zero) and there is no Q therein. The vehicle is actually a Toyota Camry 07, imported form Canada.

Saujee/ sly, please give it another try. I am indeed very grateful.

Religion / Re: Whats So Bad About Celestial Church Of Christ by Teejay07(m): 6:24am On Jun 20, 2008
@poster,

The controversy over Celestial Church of Christ is legendary. There have been several misconceptions about the church as well. And, stories have been circulated about several 'negative activities' of CCC members.

Oh, before I go further, I attend the Celestial Church and have been a member of the Church for over 28 years now. I started out at about the age of 18 along with my Dad (though late now). I was already in higher institution then and old enough to chose where to worship, though with the guidance of my father grin.

Now to the point, the 'hood does not the monk make'. The church you worship in does not have anything to do with your standing with GOD. Each and every one of us has his/ her 'PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD'. So, wherever we chose to worship (at least in a BIBLE BELIEVING CHURCH) we should endeavour to 'MAKE OUR WAYS STRAIGHT'. We should always try to foster an appropriate relationship with GOD.

There are several issues about the actions of a few 'bad eggs' in the Celestial fold. I will not argue about this, since I have not worshipped in more than a few parishes (both in Nigeria and abroad) throughout my earthly journey. As to the issue of practices in churches (use of red candle, green e.t.c.) - no self respecting Celestian will engage in this as it is not part of our doctrine. Also, there have been several practices that were introduced along the line by various interests in the Church that have now been outlawed over time. However, as GOD does not regulate the thoughts of man. So can no church regulate the actions of its members or even its leadership.

The only thing that can be achieved through this forum is to try and clear up any misconceptions. And, the best way to do this is just to ask questions. So, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS YOU WISH TO ASK, ISSUES BOTHERING YOU OR ANY FORM OF CONFUSION IN UR MIND ABOUT CCC - JUST GO AHEAD AND ASK. I am sure CCC members on this forum and others on Nairaland would be kind enough to provide clarifications/ answers e.t.c.

However, I will just like us all to ponder over this CCC song:

CCC Hymn 526

"Ona ti Olorun gba soro                                                                       "The ways of God are mysterious
Lati se ise re                                                                                          To accomplish His works
Ona re enikan ko mo                                                                              His ways no man can determine
Awamaridi ni ,  "                                                                    Unsearchable they are , "

Dear brothers and sisters, it is not the church you attend or the Church leader you follow on earth that determines your standing with GOD. It is your own personal actions (and inactions) that do this. Our churches are just vehicles for our believe and faith, they are not really why we worship. Going to church is an avenue to congregate, grow and develop spiritually.

Car Talk / Re: Traffic Violations In Lagos State Attract Ridiculous Fines by Teejay07(m): 6:38am On Jun 14, 2008
I do agree Lagos is peculiar. And, the chaotic traffic situation in Lagos could really get messier when you have people driving against traffic (One-Way).

However, the 250,000 naira fine will not solve the problems here. First, we need to realise that it is the responsibility of the Government to provide good roads, maintain such roads and ensure law and order on the roads (and within the society, at large). Unfortunately, one discovers that the issues here go beyond the point of just fines alone. The roads are no good, maintenance is virtually non-existent, whilst law and order has broken down.

Another point is the enforcement of the said law and imposition of fines. At what point is it conclusive that an  'accused' person is really guilty and should be fined, jailed, given options of either or be made to 'enjoy both options'. Is it right on  the spot he/ she is apprehended or where. And, what is to stop a malicious enforcement official from just falsely accusing a motorist. And, what recourse (in law) does an aggrieved party have if he feels he has been unfairly dealt with (or, done in  grin). Or, what structures are in place to ensure that sharp enforcement officials do not use the opportunity to line their own pockets.

Also, i hope the government has provision for parking lots (large ones - at that) to accommodate  the avalanche of abandoned cars. Since, some cars are not worth the fines to be imposed, the owners might just decide to abandon them. And, given the 'uncompleted ID Card' scheme in Nigeria coupled with the difficulty of sometimes tracing actual owners of vehicles - the whole situation might just become a nightmare. And, it may give room for additional issues here- Crushing abandoned and 'un-usable' cars.

The attempt to reduce lawlessness on Lagos roads, though admirable, is fraught with problems. Hope this will not be the same thing that happened upon the dedication of BRT lanes and the imposition of 50, 000 fines - when eventually the Govt had to back pedal.

As someone said earlier, it is a good development for the polity. By the time the law is subjected to real tests and stuff like that our society will be the better for it.

@ Nobleman,

you might want to start your professional training with the CIPM itself. You canvisit their office at Alausa, behind Elephant Cement House. Alternatively, go to their website and check out what they have. You may also use the opportunity to call them up.

Meanwhile, you did not state whether you are professionally qualified. If not, you might also use the opportunity to start your professional qualification too.

Best of luck.

@ yemmight, well done. Good job. smiley

Senator (alias anastbabe) aka poetikalz,

obviously you are a young man in a hurry to make money. Also, it strikes me that you a student of Machiaveli (as in the end justifying the means). You don't need to resort to foul language to force your point.

You seem not to understand what we have all been trying to tell you. Its all about personality and character. You are quick to lampoon others and insult them without checking out whether the points they have raised are genuine or not. You are quick to take up arms in defence of a personality you don't have. Your personality is the interface between you and others - the you that people really see. Whilst, your character relates to the kind of values you hold as being true. You cannot move ahead in life if you lack either of the two.

If you've got a terrific personality (vivacious, energetic e.t.c.) but your character is terrible (you lie, you are unreliable, proud e.t.c.) then people will not take you seriously. However, if you have both a terrific personality and positive character to go with it - people will want to be around you. Do business with you. And, they can vouch for you.

What you have tried to do to Emmanuel (I do know him) is character assasination. From my dealings with Inspired he strikes me as a positive character. And, I am sure given his savvy in dealing with customers he will be a terrific personality. As for you, given your antecedents here your character leaves so much to be desired. Why? You see, all positive attributes that make for a good character appear to have taken flight from you.

You keep coming back insulting everybody. Why dont you pause awhile and review the situation, then tactfully offer an unreserved apology to all those whose sensibilities you have assaulted with your brashness.

Meanhile, happy democracy day in advance. grin

been on nairaland a while now. However, just came across this forum today. I have found a lot of nice stuff to read up in here. Well done to all you people that have kept the HR flag flying.

Once again, well done everyone.

i would have loved it if doyin said some church activities are very boring and lifeless, that would have been a lot better.there are churches nowadays that are practically empty in everything,i would say that you have made a good decision  by not going there, look out for churches backed up with signs and wonders ,a church whereby you can  make the miracle happen for yourself, not allowing some jerry-curled pastor to lay hands on you, thereby putting you in some more inexplicable and mysterious bondage, there are a couple of them in nigeria now, well if you are really looking for a church which every service you miss would mean a lot ,you can find churches where practical christainity is being practised, not grammatical or theoretical christainity, try MFM or REDEEMED and your life will never remain the same again.

TO KAYODE MY LOVE!

As the sun retires from the day
and darkness fills the sky,
I close my eyes and drift away
and dream of you and I.

In my dreams, I take your hand
and slowly guide your way
up the stairs to Heaven,
in the clouds is where we lie.

You take your hand and touch my face
as you look into my eyes.
My body begins to shake
and my stomach feels with butterflies.

I look up at you and you look at me,
your eyes are wide and bright.
I arch my back and guide you in
and you make love to me all night.

Suddenly I wake up,
the sun is up by then.
But I can't wait until the night
so I can see you once again.

Autos / Re: Looking For A Good Lagos Car Dealer To Colab With Here In Abuja! by Teejay07(m): 10:39am On May 27, 2008
@ anastbabe,

I read your post and smiled. First, because you really don't know what you are talking about. I have not said you were answerable to anyone. But, you need to clear the air about the uproar generated on another thread about your offer of jobs to people. I wonder if you ever went back to review the various comments made by different contributors on that thread.

Obviously, you fail to see the link between business, life, livelihood and character. I will let you in on something that a lot of people on Nairaland, myself inclusive, do in determining the character and personality of people to take seriously or not. We review your various contributions in the past. This reveals to us the kind of individual at the other end. More often than not, over a period of time, people reveal tiny bits of their persona and person through their various contributions. Through this, one is able to glean the kind of person you are.

Really, you do not put much stock by your identity and that is why you can come at me with that hurt pride of yours. I am not trying to get at you. I am just saying ' a good name (identity) is better than gold and silver'. By now you should be able to link what I said earlier about the link between business, life, livelihood and character.

Meanwhile, as for getting me a job. That would be in your dreams. PLEASE REVIEW MY VARIOUS CONTRIBUTIONS IN HERE, THEN COME BACK AND TELL ME WHETHER I NEED A JOB. I hate bandying words with people or getting into uncessary arguments over nothing. So, I will just drop the matter.

And, like I siad in my initial post - I wish you luck and hope this new venture turns out right in the end.
