Career / IFRS For Smes Workshop by Teejay07(m): 5:00am On Nov 18, 2014
The national Roadmap to the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Nigeria commenced on January 1, 2012. According to the roadmap, Small and Medium-sized Entities are to prepare their financial statements in line with the provisions of the IFRS for SMEs effective 2014.

As part of activities aimed at ensuring seamless transition by SMEs, the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria, in collaboration with the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation (IFRS Foundation) and the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA), is organising a three-day regional workshop entitled, “Train-the-Trainer” workshop on International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs).

The workshop is scheduled for November 25 – 27, 2014 at the Intercontinental Hotel and Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A key objective of the workshop is to develop the capacity of regional trainers to provide subsequent training on the IFRS for SMEs in their own jurisdictions and equip participants with requisite skills in the use of IFRS Foundation training materials. Such trainers are typically drawn from the academia, auditing and accounting firms amongst others.

Politics / How Do We Resolve This Logjam? Senate and FEC At Loggerheads by Teejay07(m): 12:11am On Jan 28, 2010
I am stil wondering how we got to be in this kind of situation. Well, OBJ seem to want to rewrite history given his recent utterances. As if that was not enough we have different court rulings to contend with. Now on top of everything Senate says YARADUA should cede power to Jonathan, and FEC says UMARU is not incapable of ruling the nation. Incidentally, both decisions were taken today.

Things seem to be unravelling pretty fast. However, we don't seem to be anywhere near finding a credible solution.

My question is, "How do we resolve this situation?"

Crime / Re: Popular Masqurade Charged With Theft. by Teejay07(m): 5:53am On Jul 02, 2009
Unfortunately, some street urchins must have employed the opportunity of the annual masquerade festival to carry out their dastardly acts. In those days, I remember staying somewhere in my great grandfather's house in Ibadan just watching the colourful passage of these masquerades. It was like a carnival, similar to the Eyo Festival in Lagos and (though not comparable with) the popular Rio de Janeiro of Brazil. Then, to us the essence of the masquerade march past was to showcase the Ibadan culture and heritage. I remember one popular song about this same masquerade, Alalpansanpa, and goes thus:

Alapansanpa o de'le Olubadan, Ibadan o fara ro. (Until Alapansanpa gets to the Olubadan's palace to pay obeisance, there would be no peace.)

It was just plain fun.

You just need to see their inticately woven and colourful costumes. However, these 'sacred' institutions have been desecrated. I guess, it is a reflection of the general decay in the society. Too bad.

Methinks, if Ara Orun Kinkin has committed a crime he should be taken to court like anyone else. However, who should be prosecuted - the Masquerade Alapansanpa or the Individual in the Costume. To my mind, it should be the Individual in the costume o.
Celebrities / Re: Farrah Fawcett Dies At 62 by Teejay07(m): 5:12am On Jul 02, 2009
The death of Farrah Fawcett, the original poster girl turned Charlie's Angel would have been saddening on its own. However, MJ's death on the same day as hers totally eclipsed the news of her death.

For me Farrah Fawcett TOWERED over the other two angels. And, she has earned her place in history. May her soul rest in peace.

Celebrities / Re: This Low Life Admits He Lied On Michael Jackson by Teejay07(m): 9:29pm On Jun 29, 2009
People,

MJ is dead and no more here to defend himself. He has gone to answer to a HIGHER AUTHORITY. Why don't we just let the fellow rest in peace. One thing that comes from all these discussions is that MJ is as controversial in death as he was in life.

Whichever way you look at it, methinks he was a blessing to mankind. Though in some ways he had challenges with the kind of life he lived. However, I will just say that he/she without blemish should raise up his/ her hand.

Like I said somewhere else on NL with regards to MJ. If we had been in his shoes/ gloves/ skin/ bed we might have even fared worse. Think!
Celebrities / Re: "my Fans Have Fish Brains" - Timaya by Teejay07(m): 10:26pm On Jun 27, 2009
Well, I dont know whether I am a fan or not. But, I do enjoy the guy's music all the same. However, rather than feel 'righteous anger'at this brash and uncouth fellow we should pity him.

Please remember the saying, "those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad".

No sweat, Timaya has had his say. Come five years from now, let's see whether he go still dey 'kokoroko.'.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, wonders shall never cease. Timaya? Na wa o. Wetin eye no go see or ear no go hear sef.

O ma se o. No be him fault o, na we wey dey 'gbadun' him music. Fish Brains ke! A whole me? Timaya, o seun o. Thank you o, you hear? Now i just realised i was a fan, and i need to have my head examined to know whether I truly have fish brain.

Fish brain or no fish brain, I enjoy his music. Especially, the one with Empress.
Celebrities / Re: Michael Jackson Died: Cardiac Arrest by Teejay07(m): 9:09pm On Jun 27, 2009
Upon learning that Michael Jackson was dead the first thought that came to my mind was his enormous talent and gift. He's been a star for decades. I practically grew up on his music. Another thought occurred to me, about life. Here today, gone 2moro. When MJ is remembered, I hope people will overlook all his human frailities and foibles. And, focus on his contribution to the world - entertainment, joy, pleasure and generally his contributions to the world (not just the world of entertainment only). He was immensely talented and gifted.

However, let's be wary of passing judgement on his various failings and foibles. I have learnt never to say 'never'. So, don't let's say Í could never have done that! If we had been in his shoes, could we have done any better? Mind you, Michael was already a star when most of us were still learning to tie our own shoe laces. He never really grew up, the way normal children did. He had stardom thrusted upon him right from a precocious age, as a child.

Michael, you were a blessing to this world, may your soul find the rest it never really had here on earth.
Family / Re: Please Help by Teejay07(m): 5:05am On Jun 19, 2009
@poster,

sure you are right to feel so cheated. However, you have to consider all the options open to you. Before you make your next move I advise you sort out in your mind what you actually hope to gain - vengeance or just your money back. If it is vengeance, forget it (Cause even when you have exacted your wrath on him, you will never be satisfied. Moreso, vengeance is mine - so says the LORD). If it is your money back, then you can go ahead.

If you dont have the funds to personally pursue the matter, I am sure the Public Defenders' Office in Lagos or other such alternative dispute settlement entities that abound in the country will gladly assist you pursue the matter.

Best of luck.

@fotodaddy,

first let me apologise for disappointing you guys on that day. My wife was to travel out on Friday, but missed her flight due to my fault I must say. And, we now had to reschedule the flight for Saturday and check in time was from 11 am while the flight was for 2.30pm. My punishment was to run around to re-confirm the ticket and ensure that she makes that flight. Else, I would have been in okro soup. Thank GOD she made the flight and the trip o.

Also, I have been out if town myself for some time now. Just got back now and saw your post. Once again, my apologies.
