If your interview is a physical one, then you’re not dropping your passport with OIS, you will only need it when your visa is approved, you’d use this website; https://appointment.oisservices.com/ to track your passport and schedule an appointment to pick it up.

If your interview is Dropbox, then you’d need to book an appointment for drop off using the above website, the date you pick on OIS has to tally with your AVITS one, then when the appointment date comes, you go to the location you picked and drop off your passport.

I need someone to kindly explain to me the necessary steps to take after filling DS-160 and paying application fee. What I'm mostly confused about is OIS. I read something about dropping passport with OIS..i just need clarity on what exactly the OIS is for and at what point are they needed in this whole process.
