Frane Selak (born 1929) is a Croatian music teacher who has escaped death seven times, and afterward won the lottery in 2003, prompting journalists to dub him "the world's luckiest man", and "world's luckiest unluckiest man". Brushes with death Selak's supposed brushes with death started in January 1962 when he was riding a train through a cold, rainy canyon and the train flipped off the tracks and crashed in a river. Someone pulled Selak to safety, while 17 other passengers drowned. Selak suffered a broken arm and hypothermia. The next year, during his first and only plane ride, he was blown out of a malfunctioning plane door and landed in a haystack; the plane crashed, killing 19 people. However, there is no report of any plane crash in Croatia in 1963.Three years after that, in 1966, a bus that he was riding skidded off the road and into a river, drowning four passengers. Selak swam to shore with a few cuts and bruises. In 1968 Selak was teaching his youngest son how to hold a gun when the safety trigger was accidentally off and Selak managed to shoot himself in one of his testicles. He was taken to hospital where the casing from the bullet was found, and his testicle had to be removed. In 1970 his car caught fire as he was driving and he managed to escape before the fuel tank blew up. Three years later, in another driving incident, the engine of his car was doused with hot oil from a malfunctioning fuel pump, causing flames to shoot through the air vents. Selak's hair was completely singed in this incident, but he was otherwise unharmed. In 1995, he was struck by a bus in Zagreb, but sustained only minor injuries. In 1996 he eluded a head-on collision with a United Nations truck on a mountain curve by swerving into a guardrail, which gave way under the force of his car; he was ejected from the car when the door flew open (he wasn't wearing a seatbelt) and watched his car plummet down 90 metres (300 ft) into a gorge. Lottery winner In 2003, two days after his 73rd birthday, Selak won €800,000 (US$1,110,000) in the lottery. At the time of his win, he also married for the fifth time. While he purchased two houses and a boat with his winnings, in 2010 he decided to give most of the remaining money away to relatives and friends after deciding to live a frugal lifestyle. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frane_Selak

The Presidency has revealed that nobody is currently under probe. The revelation was made by President Muhammadu Buhari's Senior Special Adviser on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu during an interview session with VANGUARD. He said, ''Let me say that officially, nobody is under probe even Dr. Jonathan. People should not make mistakes about the fact that what is going on are routine investigations. These are matters that the president has found on the table. ''So, there is nothing like a probe. If Jonathan will be probed, you would have heard of, may be, an administrative panel of enquiry or Judicial Panel of Enquiry. But it hasn’t come to that. These are matters of routine engagements of due process of law and order. On when the probes will begin, Shehu said,''I don’t know if there will be probe eventually. The president will determine that. I am not permitted to say that now. But as it is now, matters are rising from the briefings the president is getting, from handing over, matters he met on the table. The president has the right to ask questions and that is what he is doing''. http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/nobody-is-under-probe-even-dr-jonathan-presidency.116523/ |
azimibraun:Please swerve to the right how many people have died from eating snails in Nigeria?? Tell me The giant African land snail may fit in the palm of your hand, but it is posing a big threat to Florida residents. State officials are worried because the snails carry disease and eat most of the agricultural crops grown in the state, an official said. When the Florida Department of Agriculture first discovered the current outbreak in Miami-Dade County, they found "massive amounts of these snails at every property we visited," said Mark Fagan, a spokesman. Barely more than 18 months later, Fagan estimated officials have captured more than 120,000 snails. The largest had a 6.1 inch shell. "We have a staff of 50 that's dedicated to nothing but snail hunting," Fagan said. Giant African land snails carry rat lungworm, which the Centers for Disease Control said is the most common cause of human eosinophilic meningitis. The snails often contract the worms by eating rat feces. Florida's food supply is threatened too, said Fagan. "They eat 500 different plants," he said. Florida has more than 9 million acres of farmland. The Florida agriculture industry employs 750,000 people and contributes more than $100 billion to the state's economy. At least 20 neighborhoods are battling the snails. According to Fagan, the snails can produce 100 eggs per month and live more than 8 years. "It's a perfect environment for them here in South Florida," state entomologist Dr. Ian Stocks told ABC News station WPLG. Fagan said the giant African land snails first came to South Florida in the 1940s as overseas military equipment returned home. Even today, he added, "they're hitchhiking on cargo." That could mean they're coming in on something as small as a potted plant. "When they're really small, they're easily undetected," Fagan said. People usually spot giant African land snails in their backyards and on the sides of homes. In addition to leaves, the snails also eat stucco and concrete searching for calcium. "Last week, when it rained, I came out and I saw so many that I took a plastic bag and I had more than 40 of them," Reinaldo Rodriguez, a local resident, told WPLG in an April 2012 interview. It can be difficult to tell the giant African land snail apart for other kinds of snails. It gets easier as they grow larger. "The stripes on their shell are a dark, caramel brown, with vertical rather than horizontal stripes," Fagan said. "They have a definite spiral." According to WPLG, workers returned several times to leave bait and collect the snails. Agriculture officials are treating snail outbreaks with the same compounds found at home and garden supply stores. If you spot one in your backyard, Fagan said, don't smash or otherwise destroy it. Rather, he recommended calling an agricultural official to dispose of them. He added that officials are making headway in their battle against the giant African land snail. Harmless man supports his 91-year-old mother with his mouth and feet Chen Xingyin, a 48-year-old farmer from Chongqing, has been taking care of his mother for years even though he lost his arms in an accident at seven years old. “I have good feet even though I don’t have hands,” Chen told the Chongqing Evening News. Chen also angrily objected to some people who suggested that he become a beggar at the city’s railway station, since beggars can earn thousands of yuan a year. He explained to the newspaper that he makes enough supporting his mother and himself by raising pigs, chickens, and growing crops. “I can’t leave her alone at home since she is old now,” Chen said. Chen’s two sisters got married when he was 14. However, his father and older brother died before he was 22. In order to support his mother, Chen has learned how to cook, farm and perform housework chores with his feet. Chen can now easily cut food and light a fire by using his toes. Since Chen’s mother became ill last month, he has been feeding her and giving her medicines three times a day. Chen’s older sister offered to help him, but Chen told her that he’s a single man without too many burdens. #I_thank_God_for_my_life ![]()
