Editor’s note: In many ways, 2015 was a defining year for Nigeria and millions of Nigerians. A number of happenings proved pivotal — positively and otherwise — over the course of the year for Nigeria. ‘TERYFIK, the Nairaland columnist, selects five of such game-changing events to talk about. Elections Given how things work in Nigeria, elections have always been cautiously anticipated, as more often than not violence and malpractice mar them. This year, with the margins as close as they have ever been in all of Nigeria’s democratic history, tensions were even higher. The rise of the APC, driven by the merger of major opposition parties, had set the tone for the general elections, as Nigerians, previously showing high levels of apathy towards getting involved in the electoral process, showed desire to participate. The Independent National Electoral Commission also played a major role with critical reforms and changes which arguably altered the common trend of electoral fraud with previous elections. New security features played immense roles in limiting electoral fraud. Crucially, Nigerians went to great lengths to monitor and track results at various polling booths. Social media once again proved to be vital as it was an important tool throughout the electoral period not just for quick dissemination of results but also for verification of voting results despite a few anomalies. In the end, the APC emerged victorious at the polls and very surprisingly, for most who had anticipated significant breakout of violence, those fears turned were not validated.Handover Just like the elections were crucial, so was what came after. While the APC’s win at the polls ensured new dispensation in charge of Nigeria for the first time in 16 years, silent fears surfaced as to whether or not the transition from one democratic government to another was going to be seamless. Perhaps, it is a measure of Nigeria’s volatility and frail unity that politically epochal events such as these are dreaded. While it remains debatable and highly politicized, a big part reason for the smooth transition was President Jonathan’s concession call to the victor, Muhammadu Buhari, in the aftermath of the elections. While his tenure in office was vastly underwhelming, his concession, on a continent where self-perpetuation in power is usually the preferable option even at the risk of violence, deserves some measure of commendation. In the end, the handover ceremony came and went as Nigeria ushered in a new ruling party. #DasukiGate One big feature of Nigeria’s recent reality has been the existence of Boko Haram in the North-East. The sect’s reign of terror has devastated the economy in the region and led to the deaths of thousands of people and displacement of millions. In part, one of the reasons for the extended endurance of Boko Haram’s capability was the relative failure of the military to stop the sect. Now, we know why. Evidence and various accounts suggest that funds earmarked for the procurement of arms and upgrading military equipment were embezzled and illegally diverted by the erstwhile national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki. With Dasuki in custody and facing multiple counts which could end with a significant prison term, the scandal has been tagged #DasukiGate. The scale of the theft runs into billions of dollars and highlights the level of financial recklessness under the previous administration. Anti-Boko Haram multi-national task force While the #DasukiGate occurred in the latter half of the year, a key decision made midway through to year was crucial to changing the dynamics of the fight against Boko Haram. Long proposed, a multi-national task force materialized as neighboring countries joined |

CAMPAIGN IS OVER We want to make a passionate appeal to this administration that Nigerians do not want to be reminded of the disastrous 16yrs of PDP rule, which caused Nigerians so much pain and misery. Hence, Nigerians refused to vote back PDP and voted for this administration. Therefore we do not want this administration to continue to remind us and making continuous reference to those disastrous years as a form of cover. By the way, most players of this present administration are part of the disaster for the past 16yrs. The Nigeria people want this administration to be focus on purposeful leadership, making things work by tackling the problems head-on rather than complaining. We are no longer in the past. The campaign period where it was appropriate and normal to complain is over. We repeat, the campaign is over! Stop keeping Nigerians busy with empty press statements. Action speaks louder than words! Nigerians are aware that it takes more time to build than to destroy. What the Nigeria people will not tolerate from this administration is spurious lies to lead and deceive Nigerians or flip flop policies. Even though most of the Nigeria people are docile and prefer to glorify those that have enslaved them for many years. We will break this chain of slavery and wake them up from their deep sleep to enable them abandon this career of sycophancy. It is the responsibility and duty of any government to provide roads, security, water, housing, healthcare, electricity, pay salaries, etc. This is the reason Nigerians elected them in order to put these basic amenities in place. Lets make it clear. A call to service is not a call to enslave the Nigeria people. Nigerians will not accept such characters any longer from any governments. The fact that a few provided some of these things is not by any means to be glorifying them because this is what they are meant to do. It is not an achievement whatsoever. It is only a visionary leader that provides extra ordinary things for the Nigeria people that we can glorify as a people, which we are yet to see. Change Organisation Nigeria is here to give actionable voice to the Nigeria people and return power back to the people where power truly resides. All patriotic Nigerians should take advantage of the platform and tool we have created by setting the agenda for government in their communities, local governments and states. Governance is for the people and by the people. This is a clarion call to all well meaning Nigerians to sign up on our website www.changengr.o rg, follow our activities and key into our vision for a new Nigeria. This is the least we are asking from Nigerians. Angels will not come down from heaven to fix our problems and the Elites that have enslaved the Nigeria people are not willing to let go of power. Na our hand e dey! God bless Nigeria Signed Change Organisation Nigeria |

SHAMEFUL HABITS SOME LADIES POSSESS THAT WILL MAKE THEIR BOYFRIEND DUMP THEM!! Now let's analyze these shameful habits 1. Untidiness, Laziness, And Looking Unkempt It's very evident that some ladies can soak their towels, underwear and clothes for days without worrying about the smell emanating from it. However, many of them only manage to tidy up and arrange their rooms properly especially when they are expecting male visitor but when you see these same ladies on the streets or mobile network, they look better than Beyonce on social network. I trust the larger percentage of guys can only tolerate that. 2. Begging For Money And Recharge Card The notion that men are made to provide for them turned many ladies into developing gold digging habits. Some beg for recharge card, mobile phones and all sort of perishable parameters from every Tom, Dick and Harry. When the boyfriends cannot cope with that disgusting habit and dump them, they willkeep saying most men don't appreciate good ladies. 3. Double Dating There's only a slight difference between some so called girlfriend and prostitutes. However, many of them are so covetous that they keep many species of guys for financial assistance despite the fact that the innocent dude is everything his best to ensure she's satisfied yet still keeps many magas under the cloak of not keeping all her eggs in one basket. 4. Lack of Vision, Goal and Objectives In Life An average Nigerian lady wants to get married to a man living in a mansion with so many cars and maids but the question is, what will be her own contribution? Many of them are so dumb that If you give them a million naira, the next thing they think of is fixing of eyes lashes, Brazilian hair which costs about N120,000, buy bleaching and toning cream which costs about N 20,000 or more, buying of Iphone6: N180,000 so as to make other ladies see them as fashionable ladies, Instead of investing into something that will add value to their resume and personal life. 5. Low Sense Of Reasoning. Some ladies are so dumb that they can barely give meaningful contribution to practical issues. All they think of is how to get married and place financial burden on their husbands. 6. Bad cooks Some ladies are bad cook but the most annoying thing is that they are not ready to learn. Helping their mothers in the kitchen is a difficult task for them. They can't prepare common noodles let alone eba. This is a turn off for many guys. 7.Add urz... |
