Christianity Etc › Re: Nigerian Christians And The Gospel Of Self-service by texanomaly(f): 11:06pm On Sep 25, 2014 |
plaetton: Lol. There is almost no forthnight that a new self-service thread does not appear on this religilous section of Naira land.
There has been endless debates, scriptural quotations from nearly every chapter of the bible either supporting, Admonishing against or simply indifferent to what now may seem to be a favorite pastime of a lot of NL Christians.
Even Nigeria's flamboyant MOGs (men of guile) have thrown their overfed weights on this weighty matter. For example, pastor Oyaks seems to be for, while Pastor Adeboye seems to be against. Other well known MOGs are equally divided on this hot issue.
It appears that the only way to distinguish Nigerian Pentecostal churches and their pastors is whether they are for or against self-service.
No one knows for sure whether Jesus or apostle Paul would have been for or against considering that both men were suspiciously celibate.
As non believer myself, I do wonder why , upon all the wonderful lessons and acts of SELF-LESS virtues that Jesus supposedly performed in the gospels, the average Nigerian Christian is more concerned with scriptural pros and cons of SELF-SERVICE. @ the bolded Can you make a list? One side for those pastors who do support the practice, and the other for those who do not. It would be helpful for the brethren, and sisters, to know which church is in support of their particular opinion on the subject. It's important to make an "informed" decision on these matters. Don't you think? |

datalossvictim1: LIES!!!! Trust me that is totally false! If you tell me how you came up with your assumption, I may "trust" it. How did you come to believe it is all lies? What experience do you have that would convince me that I should take what you say as the truth? |

Kay17: It does sometimes. Fear is fear. As zeemoore, and others here have said, obeying out of fear only teaches you how to not get caught. Teaching a child to understand how his actions affect outcomes, produces a child with the tools needed to solve problems, not hide from them. |

Kay17: The child traces the pain to you and sees the attachment between your satisfaction and zero pain. Hence easily conforms to your modelling. See African parents for example, they are the most respected. You have to consider the child's immaturity and inability to reciprocate gratitude or endearment. Fear is not respect or love. |

Kay17: You are assuming kids are rational beings with adequate control over their emotions, and that they naturally respect others. I think spanking in a reasonable manner is always ideal. And the kids have to be aware of your authority. Did you read the article? There is a difference between having authority, and having a dictatorship. |
