OlowoB:yep Olowo B exactly what I mean..I paid for the first 6 months in sept (through GTb form A) and when it was about to expire I approached GT and they said they could not do it..but my other acct officer in fidelity said she would do it so I paid the rest via form A. Like you said it is RISKY but thankfully I had someone here who helped me inspect before I paid. I looked for ads on sites like rightmove and when I saw anything interesting I would ask my friend to see it physically to be sure it was like the pictures. I also paid directly to the pty agent. When I used form A for the second round of rent I did it from the UK (you can fill the forms and send to your account officer once you are sure of the details)...so there is also that option so you do not take the risk of paying for a place you have not seen. Just talk to your account officer and see if they are willing to assist...evey naira saved counts. All the best |
Just came to peep at this thread as it helped me alot when I was planning to come to the UK. Now im almost done with my studies and on my way home in about a month. The exchange rate has not been helpful but one of the best things I did was paying my rent (private accomo) 6 months ahead using form A. If you have a helpful account officer then whether private or school owned your accomodation while you are in school falls under form A. My gtb people refused to help so I transfered my funds to Fidelity and they did it for me. My case is unique as I am here with young children but once you are steadfast God will make a way. It took me a while to get a job as I was being picky (beacuse of child care I wanted a job I could do from home)...eventually I got one through the university that allows me work from my laptop...(an IT company so alot of things they do are done remotely). I have been very fortunate as I found someone through a friend who helped me househunt before I came to Exeter and I paid before I even got here...fortunate cus UI dont adbvise people to pay for what they have not seen but I thank God the person who helped was very picky and I got a lovely place. I live in a very white town but its been cool so far and no regrets. All the best for those making plans |
Like Home of me mentioned planting is one way forward . I have attached a pic of tomatoes I grew in my compound last year, I am planting more now. Also try Ofe Akwu, Gravy and other alternatives to stew . There's a simple recipe for Ofe Akwu on this site as well http://www.chiomah.net/2016/05/my-palmnut-stew-recipe-ofe-akwu.html?m=1

You probably went through something that affected your confidence. I read two very helpful articles on this subject matter. https://www.bellanaija.com/2016/05/chiomah-momah-let-your-voice-be-heard-5-tips-to-help-you-deal-with-stuttering/ http://www.chiomah.net/2016/05/feel-fear-and-go-ahead.html The first one especially had some good tips. all the best |
I think the poster put this here as there are other wives who may be jostling to be recognised as first lady. I agree no need to bring such a campaign here as the first wife then she is the first lady already. only in naija! |
Just seeing this.. You have to apply with their dad ( unless you are not together) there is also a certain amount of money you need to have in your account for them all ( as dependants) before you apply. All the info on visa is on one thread called UK students visa and procedures ( or something like that). All the best and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to contact me. |
@redcliff,thanks for ur advice [/quote Hello? Curious if you still went ahead to study. |
I don't know if I am overstepping my boundaries here but I wrote an article for my school's blog and I wanted to share. It contains tips on how to get a scholarship. @justwise if i am out of line, please let me know.... Happy reading and please comment on the blog and share with others... Https://blogs.nottingham.ac.uk/internationalstudentlife/2015/10/08/a-scholarship-winner- shares-her-tips-for-making-a-successful-application/ Happy Sunday...
Nice! I blog for my school as wel and will definitely be reading this. If anyone needs tips on coping with young children while studying feel free to ask me. It's been quite an adventure and what helped me was my insistence on coming to the UK a couple of weeks before classes started . It really helped me sort out my child care issues and all solidly before hand. Try and do as much as you can before you get to the UK.there are very Few Africans where I am but everyone is super friendly and helpful. So glad I decided to come to Exeter. All the best everyone. Petite diva I will send you a message. |
Bidosko don't allow anyone make u loose focus.. All the best.. I carried a lot of food as well and the customs peeps were nice but removed my frozen Palm oil... Really the palm oil here is not bad so I don't think anyone should bother bringing in such All the best everyone |

I took a national express bus straight to Exeter where my school is n called a can to my apartment... Cus I'm here with children I got a two bedroom flat n it's quite nice: . I went to my school th day after I got in and did my clearance n all. Looking forward to starting my classes. All the best everyone. |

chenn:Thats the rule with most banks...u must run an acct for 3 months before asking for PTA.. dont u have an acct with any othet bank that does PTA? if u have a dormant acct witg any other bank that does PTA u can reactivate. |
rotimilax:airlines will do one year return tickets...however they usuallt cant book for more than 9 months ahead so book the furthest date they offer and when its close to that date n u have a better idea of when ur wish to return u can then change it..make sure u change it before the return date or u will have to buy another ticket. |
pet01:I paid my deposit using my card, i believe there was a charge from my bank but notging crazy..but used form A for the bulk of the tuition. |
b33mbor:Maybe you should contact them for clarification...i doubt it though...cus my friend was just denied cus she used her dads company account. |
Well let me not put it solely on ur acct office cus CBN has made the procedure a bit more stressful. |
TinukeOlu:Hmm infact i think its just a matter of how effective your account officer is. Mine took exactly two weeks. When they were wasting time i went to reactivate my Fidelity account and they were ready to do it but said it would take between 1 to 2 weeks cus they need to bid for forex. I had to speak to a few people n pray. So if you want to pay deposit to get your cas its better u find someone in the UK to assist or use one of these bureau de changes ..they will pay the school same day. You can use the Forn A for the rest of your tuition. |
bidosko:Gt is giving 2500 pounds so i guess since CBN is silent on pound banks are giving diff amounts in other currencys. |
Mubarak39:Mubarak39 Usqoh understands ur scenario just do as he has advised and get a new CAS |
@tinukeOlu.. yep i agree with others the probably wont accept that. You could try sending them an email before you apply |
ZainabOO:Nope its not compulsory at all! ..its just for people like me who are trying to save some money here and there. Ive had an account in the UK for about 20 years now and I think most people who have admission would have been informed by theor respective schools on the ease of opening bank accounts in the UK. |
ebakwest:You are right! I disturbed my Gtbank people yesterday and this eveving and i prayed about it and found that they have done my transfers via form A . Yipee! Its annoying that u have to get cross for stuff to be done but im glad they came thru ...cus the black market exchange rate aint funny. So pls if your bank is being reluctant about making your paymenta via form A pls pray and insist if they value your business they will do it. |
bidosko:Yep GTB is mising forex ive just left them...wish i had firstbank acct would have used them...tbh they r the most serious bank when it comes to procedures.years ago when i tried to xlose my late mums accts it was only firstbank that knew what they wrte doing..the othet banks were all so terrible esp UBA... I am paying to the Landlord...n yes its covered by Form A as long as u have proof that your a student. |
Dafemnent...i also made mistakes on mine..what i did was write a letter explaining my mistakes signed it and put among my supporting docs. One of the mistakes was putting a diff hotel address from the one i actually booked.. another one was wrong date of birth of one of my children ( dont judge me i was tired) . And since we all gpt our visa I guess they were fine with my letter. |
Kai Gtbank is something else! Ive been trying to get my tuition and accomodation paid via Form A and they are just so disorganised. First they said accomodation could only be to the school ( i argued this out and they agreed to do it) ..next they said i should change something and then today ( after 10 working days) they said the admission letter i gave them was unacceptable ( email) and they need one on a letter head ( why didnt they just say so from the beginning). Also after going to look for form A myslef ( i had to go to CBN) they refused to give me PTA cus my visa had a 30 day validity. In anger i went to reactivate my fidelity acct and they said they will do the accomodation without any storys and give me my pta as well once i bring the letter showing my visas validity.. they also said that a one way ticket is fine. Gtbank should get their act together |
Just go and check , its probably there. |
tinuosadeyi:I doubt if you will have any problem...its not a job interview and like everyine has said its just to be sure your genuine. If u have the right funds as per their recommendations your good to go. The fact that you got a good school also helps. |
justwise:Nope i NEVER use my middle name on my tickets.Miele you have no problem. |
Petitediva14:Pls who knows more about this "compulsory" csm shot... Need to know if its really mandatory as i have never heard about it. |
Justwise, many thanks |
