olarich30:
good day Nairaland peeps i was denied my student visa on thursday 22nd of june in lagos by the guy in window 4 around 8 am , the guy was just giving out refusals like someone giving kids candy . i believe i answered all the questions asked by the VO properly but i was refused for reasons best known to him .

i got an admission to study master's in game design at full sail university in florida and it's a nationally accredited private university . i wrote TOEFL and i studied computer science for my bachelor's degree , i intend to apply again for an interview at the embassy .

my questions are do i stand a chance ? is the school credible enough for a student visa ? please note full sail university is one of the best schools for the course i put in for in the states and it's ranked number 11 and 12 respectively on several educational sites

i am 30 years old , single but i have ties to my country through work ( i work with Bet9ja and KC gaming networks ) and i have also traveled out of the country on 4 different occasions , i even went to south Africa this February .

do i still stand a chance this time around ? i want people's candid opinion
Post a full transcript of what transpired between you and the VO. Then bosses in the house will be able to pinpoint where you went wrong and proffer helpful suggestions for your next try. How will anyone give you any advice when no one knows how you replied the VO? It's not for you to say you answered well. As a matter of fact, in majority of cases, only a white slip proves anyone answered well. For all we know, you may have told the VO the reason you chose the school is because you like the painting lipsrsealed

Do post your transcript and get well-informed replies. All the best.

Huh? Anyone? Pretty please? Lol. Please I need a response o.

Hello house, I plan to book my interview today. Please at what point would I be required to pay the visa fee and what payment option is advised?

I would also appreciate any useful tips in filling my online visa application. I'm applying for masters.

Another thing is, I finished national youth service late 2015 and since then till now, I haven't been "officially" employed. Been job hunting and pursuing some entrepreneurial interests. I fear these VOs may not understand why and it may pose a problem? Thoughts on how best to navigate this, please?

Some part of your analysis makes sense, however, one is tempted to ask - "what happened to the first come first serve" clause?

One would have thought that those who met the benchmark required to progress to stage 2, would have received their invites to do so.

If Mr. A meets the benchmark (let's say 80/100 4 d BM) to proceed to d nxt stage and he's not progressed to continue his 2nd stage assessment, but gets served the love letter because Mr. B's 1st stage assessment was relatively better, then the "first come first serve" clause would have become invalid.

The only logically acceptable explanation why Mr. A got served d love letter, should be because he didn't meet d benchmark, otherwise, they might have to put up an explanation on what they meant by "first come first serve "

Abi na first come first collect ur love letter grin

Still on this case scenario, don't you think if A had known it would be a comparative assessment against all d applicants and not an assessment to beat d benchmark , he could have taken his time to gather information -including tips from those who went ahead- to stay ahead of the competition?

Just my thoughts sha grin
Her analysis makes complete sense to me. It is one of the two scenarios I believe we may be dealing with, of which the other is still the fixed benchmark hypothesis.

Variable benchmark

First come, first served means the applications will be reviewed on that basis. Let's say Mr. A applies for the program 5 days before Ms. B but completes his assessment 10 days later, whereas Ms. B completes hers within the first 3 days, then Ms. B's application will be reviewed first. Her candidacy would be considered before Mr. A's.

In addition to what deepwater already explained, keep in mind that these positions have limited slots. If Mr. A and Ms. B have identical aggregates for, say, trainee production engr, and they happen to be the last candidates in the review process, with both their scores beating the last best score on the trainee production engr. list, then Ms. B would be considered and Mr. A regretted (together with Dr. "last best score" [PhD], maybe) because Ms. B completed her assessments first; despite the fact that Mr. A applied first. First come, first served.

As for taking time to gather info, Shell expects all applicants to take the process seriously enough to do their due diligence on how to stand out in the assessments. Everyone is supposed to "take their time to gather information". They also do not expect other candidates to be silly enough to let out their competitive advantage, but they know it would happen. And it did happen. It is still happening. Has that boosted anyone's chances? Maybe. Significantly? No.

The assessment is designed to test one's intellect and soft skills. No one can ace it by cramming someone else's replies. It's one thing to know what you may be asked in the video interview. It's another thing to comport yourself and give a coherent, intelligent reply in 2.59 minutes, besides the other things they look out for in a video interview. Some tell flowery tales that are off-point or barely scratches the point, etc. There are just certain things that can't be faked.

My point is, soliciting info from others who have completed their tests so as to "stay ahead" has been done and is still being done by people here. It hasn't been proven to be a guarantee for anyone. And Shell will only send invites for the next stage when they are done regretting all who didn't meet up. Till then, nothing is certain. It's all hopes and prayers. The people one is asking tips from may still be regretted. What does that say for those prized tips?

If there was a fixed benchmark and those who didn't meet up were regretted based on that, then the love mails should have been coming in way sooner than some durations we have witnessed here, and the duration should have been + or - 2 days for everyone regretted, counting from the day the assessments were completed. This is the argument against the fixed benchmark hypothesis.

Fixed benchmark

Despite the foregoing, it could still be a fixed benchmark and volume of applications may be the variable with respect to love letter duration. Maybe the volume of applications has been growing exponentially with each passing day, hence they are taking more time to process applications and send the mails. So we see 4 days, then 7 days, then 10 days... Etc.

But then some get theirs after 7 days of completing the assessments the same day that some got theirs after 11 days of the same. So, maybe, a particular review group is faster or slower than some other review groups, hence some candidates get those regret mails sooner than others, or later.

These are all conjectures mehn, more subjective than objective. And I doubt the staffs viewing this thread occasionally would provide any objective insight. So let those still standing just keep hoping and praying.

The mail acknowledging the receipt of application and the one that was sent for the online assessment was from enterprise@trm.brassring.com not recruitment@shell.com (This is just the name given to the mail). The one sent for the video was sent by interviews@hirevue.com (Shell Graduate Recruitment is the name). I want to agree there is a recruitment ongoing because it is on their official website, but the mails thou. Let us keep our fingers crossed.
You are implying the mails could be fake? Waris dis?

D luv leta is 1 tin u shud knw u did ur very part bt not 2 standard requird by shell but shell nigeria knws hw we graduates roll here jst lik our accents cant b likened 2 that of foreigners'. This period, is when d real mail/cal comes in 4rm shell nigeria. Jst prepare, cos it may tak u unknowing. I rest my case! Lekwa lee gi.
I really hope you are joking. That will be the only category in which this your "analysis" will make some sense. Shell vs Shell Nigeria. "Shell" will reject, then "Shell Nigeria" will say "Don't mind those guys jare, they don't know how we roll! Everybody oya come back... ". Then "Shell Port Harcourt" will say, in fact, from now henceforth, no more assessments! That's how we roll in Ph city!! Abi? This is good comic relief, I hope you mentioned that as one of your strengths. As for the 10,000 vacant positions, I still doubt that number. Do you know what is 10,000? That's over a thousand per advertised position. To put it in perspective, the entire staff of Weatherford International or Baker Hughes in Port Harcourt isn't up to 1000.

Calling a spade a spade: posting your test questions here isnt appropriate. It is unethical. It's like organizing malpractice for waec or jamb students and term it "helping the students".

Being a politician: You don't have the right to judge what anyone posts here. They are exercising their fundamental right to freedom of expression.

Religiously calling a spade a shovel: How dare you say people should not show kindness? Many of us have been helped by Nairaland. This is part of giving back to the community and God shall bless the poster. God bless you op, you are a cheerful giver!

Johnny just come ("TL; DR" disciple): What is happening here? Why the argument??

This is not risky. It is downright wrong and extremely illegal. Have you explained that to her? What next, she will also come later asking for your transcripts to doctor? Then your NYSC Discharge Cert? Where will it end? How much do you trust her? What if she snitches on you when caught, if caught? What if she spoils your certificate in the process? What if she takes it somewhere and claims your name? What if this is the beginning of an elaborate personality theft and you are the blind mouse? Don't say she is an old friend o, humans can do and undo especially when desperate. Jesus is the only true friend o. My dear lady, please be advised. If you decide to go ahead and help her, please be extremely careful and take all precautions, but my advice is that you don't. Naija is already hard as it is, do not add to yours by yourself.
