Oga you're too theoretical when it comes to analysis, you don't normally face reality and you're always trying to tell us what to do in a situation when we cannot not do anything.... yesterday game was too obvious that we just need to soak Morocco pressures which we did for 120 minutes, common man Morocco defeated Portugal and Spain to reached World Cup semi final,do you think it was lucky, forget stories, they're the best in Africa, they play good football
When we met Spain in France 98, I remember the statement, Are you scared of Spain? Bora replied, Spain should be scared of us.

If I remember well, Spain had Raul, Morientes, Luis Enrique, Alphonso, Sergi, Hierro, Etxeberria, Zubizaretta and a host of stars.

Men we gave them hell. To the point they lost it. We played with fire.

I prefer we go for glory than lose than play as a chicken, hoping for luck to win.

Why is it that Victor Osimhem always fizzles out when Nigeria plays good teams but scores plenty goals against weak teams?

I am asking for referee Daniel Laryea
You can't blame Osimhen yesterday. There was no service. He is a striker. His game is as good as the services he gets.

When we met Argentina in Atlanta Argentina had Ariel Ortega, one of the best dribbling attackers to grace football. Hernan Crespo was a World Star. Claudio Lopez was a super star of the series a. I think Gallardo was also there. Javier Zanetti and a host of stars. We played them with guts and bravery.

I prefer we give them hell and lose than play like a chicken and hope to win. I have never known Nigeria for fear. How it is has become a norm baffles me.

On normal scale, could we compete in anyway with Brazil at Atlanta?

We were facing the likes of Ronaldo De Lima, one of the greatest players in football history. Roberto Carlos, who finished the next year as the second best player in the world. Rivaldo became world best player. Bebeto needs no introduction. Juninho was an EPL superstar at that time. I think Dunga was there. Sergi Concecao was on his way to Brazil. Brazil was a gulf in class ahead of us.

But we played them with bravery. We believed on ourselves and did the impossible. One of the most memorable victories in world football.

When did this fear approach to football enter Nigeria?

Please, I am not disrespecting you in any way. Please do not see my post as that. I respect you so much to do that but this is exactly what I feel and I have preached about it a long time.

That is why the likes of Kanu Nwankwo and Ikpeba did the impossible against Brazil. They did not have this chicken mentality that the other side is better.

We should start growing balls or let us have peace. Tired of this our chicken mentality that we are mediocre.

We are not.

That is why people believed we could not even pass the ball and build from the back.

There is no way we were going to do that with Morocco. They are a good side. In the second half when we tried thrice, twice they lost-played the ball for throw-in. Once they transitioned well and almost scored from the counter. With Ndidi probably, it would have been different because he would have given better cover.
That was our way to win and yes, we can achieve it with a proper set up. The fact is that we prepared to let the Moroccans have the ball.

the ref spoilt this, when you press your aim is to win and turn over possession, but ref gave all the calls to the host, lookman, akor o, he gave 9/10 to them, then what are you pressing when you can’t win the ball, the ref blows against you…

The ref ruin todays game, people don’t get, he literally was the mvp, he tactically with whistle spoilt Nigeria tactics.

Crowing it by given Bassey a yellow card for just holding ball, Bruno pressed won the ball he blew, this was rubbish today
Example of a high press. Did you see us press like this today?

With such poor officiating, I did not see the referee giving fouls to the Moroccans in their defense area. That is because we were not pressing with intensity.

That is the point. We let them build with ease.

That's why I said you didn't watch the match. We did exactly what you said but they found a way to play out of it. What were you expecting?
We did not press the defense with intensity. They could beat it because our press was poor.

You no watch the match. How can SE sit back and still had more possession and passes?
The point is breaking play.

The Moroccans were not the side to play the possession game and keep the ball. If not they would have easily dominated possession. They were direct with their play.

The point is us not going to stop them from building from the back.

We sat back and let them do that. Just that when they came, we broke them down. Unfortunately, when we broke them down, we were too far to cause problems.

Gerrit?

The Moroccans didn’t score because our defence and keeper was top notch!

The middle was where we lost the game as we couldn’t progress the ball much. Nididi does both defensive and attacking duties flawlessly allowing Iwobi to roam as he like but onyedika was slow in decision making that he has to be passing backwards most of the time
Onyedika to me was not the problem. To me the problem was us not causing problems in the opposition areas. I believe with intensity and aggressiveness in our attack area, we would have excelled. That is where we would have created chances.

You are trying too hard to force his pre match presser into the outcome of the game.

We pressed them with Osimhen, Lookman and Akor what game were you watching?
Systematic press is not with three players. In a back four, three players are totally outnumbered with a goal keeper.

And, the defenders of Morocco had a field day. I never saw any of them troubled during build up. It was towards the end we saw some pressing life.

Onyedika couldn't carry out Ndidis defensive responsibilities

I don't think that was the problem. The Moroccans didn't score.

The problem was us not given ourselves chance to win the game by putting the Moroccans under pressure when they had the ball.

This is indefensible.

Fold up? I disagree! Could we have done better?Yes
But bear in mind the environment and I am still baffled on some overlooked yellow cards against the Moroccans
This is entirely different from our 2nd half upward performance against Dr Congo where we folded
The poor officiating does not stop us for pressing and disrupting the play of the Moroccans. The environment does not stop us from playing our game.

That was a decision the coach took and prepared the team for before the match. Chelle messed things up.

Had to check back in to see the vibes after the loss.

This loss is probably more painful to me than the one against DR Congo. And the reason is because we actually played well, not just in this game but throughout.

For starters, the officiating was a massive fraud. Yes, Morocco figured us out tactically, but if the referee has just let us flow into the game and not display his obvious bias with his incessant interjections and fraudulent free kick calls, we'd have been at least 1 goal up. It was obvious that his constant whistleblowing psychologically dampened the boys and they started second guessing whether to engage in certain fuels or not. And this happened right until extra time where we were fatigued.

I'm not here to rail on the boys. They did their absolute best. Whatever happens in the 3rd place game, I still consider our run from the group stage to the quarter final to be arguably the finest football we've played in nearly 20 years. Eric Chelle is a fine coach. However, it's undeniable at this point that in-game management is his biggest challenge, and so far it's looking to be a constant with him. At any rate, he stays. There's obviously progress in the team with him at the helm. Plus we need him to prosecute the next couple of AFCON qualifiers and the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers... that is of course, if the NFF will let him.

I knew we'd lose this game if it went to penalties. We simply don't have penalty takers and there's only so much Nwabali can do to help the squad. That first save should have put us in the driver's seat for the next 3-4 penalty takes but we fluffed it.

As for Chukwueze, I have no words. In my humble opinion however, I'd had preferred he had come in during the time Moses or Dele Bashiru was subbed in. He couldn't have been worse than Moses Simon by any means in my book.

Thankfully, the Women's AFCON is around the corner. Hopefully the girls will right the wrongs done here and come out on top again.

Alright then, back to Twitter.

I disagree, we didn't play well in this game. Any other thing can fly, but play well. We didn't. Let us not massage our deflated egos.

Nigerians complain too much. The boys did well given everything they faced today from the referee. Morocco should be ashamed of themselves for being unable to score a goal in 120 minutes despite all the shenanigans from the referee.
We did not do well in today's game. So we should dance about that and not look at what we missed and learn from it.
