Kog45:We were leading 3-0 against Mozambique when Bruno failed to pass to Osimhen in space. Bruno did not sabotage the team but he sabotaged play. Finito. |
What I expect tomorrow from Chelle is very simple. Aggressive Man to Man marking game and quick transitions. We are going against a side that is tactically drilled and knows how to keep the ball. With aggressive Man Marking and quick transitions, we can not only win but demolish the Algerians. |
akwesenana:No. It is not an intentional act. Choosing not to pass to a player in space is intentional. |
Kog45:I think you are looking at it as a grave context, like wanting the team to fail. Not in that light. I am talking about sabotaging play. Not sabotaging the team. I used the Iceland game to highlight my point. Iheanacho was in position to score. Ahmed Musa, instead of giving the ball to Iheanacho, he chose to dribble the keeper and score a wonder goal. I for one critiqued it. Ahmed Musa did not sabotage the team but he sabotaged the play. |
Kog45:I don't know how else to explain it to you. The point is too simple. When a player is in space to score and a player prefers to go the harder route, he is sabotaging play. It's so simple. Unless you are saying it did not happen, I wonder what you want again. Tell me that all the time players were in the right position, they chose to play to the players in space, then we have a debate. |
Kog45:Twisting facts. The point was that we were leading 3-0 and players felt they can deviate from the system. The point is that we should have a long term view. No matter the score line, we should keep plugging into the system. |
ThunderFireAgba:. I have already put my hopes very high. |
Odunayaw:Happy Birthday. Many blessed years ahead. Congratulations. |
Kog45:You first have to say that all the time Osimhen was in space, the ball was gotten to him. If you can't concur, you have your answer. Deviating from the system is seeking personal glory and not the team's glory. Finito. |
Mujtahida: I don't think this answers the point I am trying to make. The point is there are instances Osimhen will be in good positions and the players don't release the ball. This has built into what we saw yesterday. I believe the solution is for Chelle to ensure the application of the requirements of the system. More strict adherence to choosing getting the ball to the man in space than looking for goal. |
minfelix:I still know martial arts. 😂😂😂 I am a sensitive guy and I am just reflecting Osimhen's pain. 😏 |
Mybettingtips:The system is king. That is what is principal. The players should stick to the system. When there is a player in space in the offensive third, get the ball to him as fast as possible. That is all. Anything different from that is sabotaging the system. I understand Osimhen's perspective. Knowing his teammates can see him in position and not utilize will feel like heartbreak. They will learn from it, get over it and unite stronger. Las Las, they are brothers with common goal. |
Kog45:Tell us Osimhen was not in space and the players didn't pass to him. |
Kog45:When you abandon the system for individual glory, you are sabotaging the system. The system is king. |
Kog45:It is about continuous improvement and mastery of the system. It is the system that will carry us in the long run. It takes a lot of work to perfect it. So abandoning it because we feel we have done enough is not the way. |
chrisooblog:The system is king. Not the fans, not Osimhen, not Lookman or Chelle. Not the fans. The system. When the players are abandoning the game plan they are betraying the team in the long run. Whether we are winning 10-0 or not. |
Chelle needs to also discuss with Osimhen regarding the optics of the team. Yes, he was heartbroken and felt betrayed but he needs to always put the team first. He could sort this out in the locker room by having a private discussion with the faulting players and the manager. Exploding on the pitch, creates a bad light of him and the team. Osimhen should know he is now a world star and should carry himself as such. I wish Chelle the best of sorting things out and I hope all parties put this behind them. They should always remember that the system is king. |
I agree that Osimhen comes out as arrogant. However, I don't see arrogance but fire for perfection. Osimhen is a player ready to run into the fire for his team and he wants that for everyone. The optics does not look good but if you understand that this is the fuel that drives him to keep performing at a high level, you will take it with a spoon full of sugar. |
Osimhen feels betrayed and hurt by people he considers brothers. Chelle needs to get slides and let them understand Osimhen scoring in line with the tactics is a team goal. The players must change their attitude. We are still a long way to go. Let us not ruin a good position. |
chrisooblog:The point is simple. It is not a game thing but a long term goal. You need to keep oiling the tactics. Anything less is sabotage. |
We have a nice system the coach is building and refusing to pass us like refusing to keep greasing the engine. We also need Osimhen's confidence and this attitude of refusing to pass to him will not help. It shows seeds of disunity, mistrust and disharmony. |
We are in a critical phase. We have the quality and tactics to pick this cup. Time for players to drop their ego and think of the boss. If Chelle wins the AFCON, it gives us a chance for tactical continuity. Let the players not deceive themselves. Second place will not be respected. They need to kick off their negativity and pick up a team mentality. |
The system is king. This is what Eric Chelle needs to hammer to the players. It is a team sport. If the tactics favour Osimhen, not getting the ball to him is not only sabotaging Osimhen but sabotaging the growth of the team. . Tactical growth is long term and it takes lots of practicing the right things until it becomes second nature. Thinking Osimhen has two goals and I must score two, betrayal the team and the manager. We need to continue getting things right. |
I hope Eric Chelle handles this with wisdom. I remember pointing this kind of thing out in the Nigerian match against Iceland, where Ahmed Musa scored two goals. In his second goal, Iheanacho was in space but Musa chose to skin the keeper and score a solo goal. It was an eye candy goal but tactically an eye sore. It is not just a Lookman thing. I saw one of Bright and I just shook my head. |
I have to comment about this Osimhen attitude issue. I am one never to hold back pointing out when a player is wrong but in this case, I understand Osimhen. When a player is in space and the team fails to pass to him repeatedly, it turns to sabotage. The bond in the National team is like brotherhood, so it is clear why Osimhen feels bitter. |
For those defending Chelle, continue least he should have given Chelle credit for the way he got the team playing. Yes, the team imploded but we can't take away the good work done. He will learn from it. Some times these things take time. |
Goke7:Thank you for the info and I hope Chelle learns from this. |
safarigirl:Wow. I missed you like crazy. Welcome back. I hope all is good. TheSuperNerd, thank you for drawing my attention. |
At 3-0 I thought the match was over and stepped out to do something, only to come back to see penalty. What went wrong? |
COOL10:Ndidi is not much of a distributor. So transition from defense to midfield will suffer without Iwobi. What is making it look poor is Iwobi not distributing properly and I expect Chelle to sort him out on that. |
TheSuperNerd:I agree. There is a big improvement in maintaining our shape. One that caught my eyes was when Calvin Bassey was off position and how we maintained a tidy shape. If we can nail midfield long range distribution, we will be fire. In all, I am impressed. |
semid4lyfe:Iwobi is pulling a brilliant shift with his running but he needs to increase his long passing level. If he can keep falling deep to the deep lying playmaker role and get his long passes right, we will rip these Tunisians to shreds. A lot lies on Iwobi. Iwobi should scan for spaces and stop trying to thread tight passes. In the words of Tuchel, there is always space. Iwobi needs to spend more time finding spaces. |
