Bossoflife25: Oga rest abeg! What rubbish mindset! The same Osimhen scored a hattrick from scrap. Scored two mavellous goal today again. What else do you want? Go watch your so-called Zlatan misses and come back here to apologize to Osimhen. The same Osimhen scored the 1v1 versus Rwanda away that brought you here yet you dey yarn dust. Enter pitch go play am. Nonsense!
It is not by abuse. Unless you believe Osimhen is the finished article, a call for him to keep improving is actually a good thing.

It is not about being negative but Osimhen being better. If Osimhen had that mindset, he won't have improved as he has. There is always room for improvement. Even Haaland has shown a lot of improvement in the game this season.
One thing I like about Zlatan is how quickly he makes up his mind when he is attacking and Osimhen can get deadlier if he works on it. See the second goal he scored. He did not spend time thinking what to do. He already has the quality to achieve it.
lbrichman2: I will cut Osimhen some slack today He redeemed himself beautifully On any other day, he would get 5 or6
I don't think we should carry that mindset. In another instance, against a more clinical side, the game won't go that long to give him room to redeem himself.
Osimhen has the quality. With a bit of polishing, he will shine bright. The code is keep improving and without flaws seriously, we can miss the room for improvement.
lexyman: They should all go and rewatch the match , and see their errors , make corrections and do better come sunday ..... i couldn't find a fault all through . if you find one , please share . IT QUALIFIES TO BE A CLASSICAL MATCH
Seriously, we resorted to long balls a lot of times when we could not break through. Keep in mind, our first goal came from an error from the Gabon side.
Osimhen needs to study Zlatan Ibrahimovic a lot to understand elite level finishing. In tougher games, it will be criminal to miss such chances. The key lies in making early decisions.
A sweet win but I still see the Eric Chelle is still sorting out his set up. We still have lots of work to do with our transition from midfield to attack, especially when dealing with a compact midfield.
I give him props with what he is doing with Ndidi but he needs to really work hard in building a more fluid midfield players.
I hope with time he switches to a more rich midfield set up.
I hope and pray we win tomorrow but I feel it is right for me to make my stance on this matter.
I don't have the full details but from the few I have, I have to point this out.
I feel the timing was wrong. Our players had enough room to make their stance and fight for their allowances. Any Super Eagles game would have gained traction and yielded results.
In such a crucial game, I don't think the dues and owed allowances should be a priority.
Kog45: Jay Jay Okocha will continue to make eagles all time XI in the next 100 years, only minus in his career was his club career, imagine such a talented player played for Bolton
When I was making the Mikel Obi over Okocha list, I had you in mind because I was sure you will never agree. You really like the classics.
As I pointed out, my preference is from the offensive and defensive package. No doubt, no one can argue a list with Jay Jay Okocha. Mine is a tactical preference.
chrisooblog: JJ i admire him but if I was the coach when he did that nonsense around the 3 minute mark in that video I for shoot am double barrel.
This is hilarious. Keep in mind Jay Jay was really young at that time and youthful exuberance will always play a part. Either way his quality is undeniable.
lbrichman2: Go watch any highlights of okocha, anyone at all, after you notice all the tricks and flicks, the next things you will notice is a lot of misplaced passes.. Unfortunately he only began to mature towards the end of his career.. Post any of his highlights here and prove me wrong
Contrary to your take, Jay Jay Okocha was up there in talent and understanding with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. Just that he did not play in the right system to bring the best out of him.
This clip below, will give you an idea. As much as I prefer Mikel Obi's approach to the game, no denying Okocha is the greatest footballing talent to play for the Super Eagles.
TheSuperNerd: Exactly. It is the tactical needs of the RW for each coach that matters. Both have equal shouts for that role but Finidi is my take coz I need one who will supply the 9 constantly, while taking the occasional strike at goal (1995 UCL Semis vs Bayern) and not one who go dey drag top scorer with am. Lol
This is funny because my mind went to Okocha behind Osimhen.
semid4lyfe: Onazi? Apart from AFCON 2013 and the World Cup 2014 run, Onazi was not a mainstay in our team. But I admit he was phenomenal in those competitions. Arguably our most important midfielder in those competitions, and our midfield crumbled when he was substituted against France in the second round.
I know I picked Celestine Babayaro as my Left back but upon reflection I'll go with Taiye Taiwo instead. TT had more caps and tournament appearances than CB, and was more impactful.
CB didn't play many matches for the Super Eagles, and his best performance for Nigeria was at Atlanta 96, and that's technically not the Super Eagles. So I'll replace Celestine Babayaro with Taiye Taiwo in Left back.
Based on also prime form, I think Onazi deserves a spot.

Fair point.
Taiye Taiwo was certainly good but I also put in offensive and defensive contributions. When we compare both, I believe Celestine Babayaro was miles a better defender than Taiye Taiwo. Although Taiwo comes with an explosive offensive game. Celestine Babayaro is more balanced from my take.
Also I think the debate is centered on in their prime. Not in longevity or commitment to the Super Eagles. So CB takes it for me.
TheSuperNerd: A Nigerian All time XI without Jay Jay Okocha is incomplete. Absolutely incomplete.
I rewatched a game on Youtube via my TV in my spare time few weeks back. Nigeria vs Senegal Afcon 2000. Pls, Okocha still showed up in that game despite the red card and was missed vs SA. You know SA would have been roasted beyond 2 goals if Okocha had played.
I am also putting in defensive rigidity in the midfield triangle. A midfield made of Oliseh, Onazi and Mikel Obi will be so balanced. Think of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves.
Okocha as an offensive midfielder will certainly blaze but I prefer a more controlled midfield.
GMBOFASIA: Football game can still be single-handedly won by a player if you have an elite player let not go far take a look at our Benin game it was osimhen heroics and unbelievable display that kept us to play off assuming it was boniface or sodiq umar starting that game we probably would have played goalless so sometimes don’t over rules some players singlehandedly doing something extra ordinary to win games
That was good performance by Osimhen but definitely not single handedly.
Goke7: It was when onazi came into eagles we started seeing the best of mikel as he did all the dirty work to make Mikel more creative in his role. In fact onazi injury was a serious problem and miss for the team at confederation cup and in the World Cup when he got injured before we played France. Onazi and Moses were key in our 2013 Afcon win.
They played well in that Afcon. Even Mikel Obi and Ambrose.
If my memory serves right, the French team also injured Ambrose in that game.
semid4lyfe: Assuming players were at their prime, my Super Eagles All-Time Best Starting 11 would be:
🔸Goal Keeper - Vincent Enyeama (1) 🔸Right Back - Joseph Yobo (2) 🔸Left Back - Celestine Babayaro (3) 🔸Centre Back - Uche Okechukwu (5) 🔸Centre Back - Taribo West (6) 🔸Defensive Midfield - Sunday Oliseh (4) 🔸Box to Box Midfield - Mikel Obi (8.) 🔸Attacking Midfield - JayJay Okocha (10) 🔸Right Wing Forward - Finidi George (7) 🔸Left Wing Forward - Emmanuel Ammuneke (11) 🔸Centre Forward - Victor Osimhen (9)
Nice list. Very difficult to debate against. However, I will pick Ambrose over Yobo. Not taking away the choice. Yobo had the quality, tactical depth and versatility. These will easily make him an easier pick.
Ambrose runs just makes me prefer him but in terms of overall quality you are right with Yobo.
Amunike vs Ikpeba is also a tough one but Amunike takes it for me.
A player that misses out but really delivered quality to the Super Eagles is Onazi.
Mujtahida: Celestine firmly belonged to the 94 set. By 94 set, it is not about those who played in 94. If that is the case, we'd extract all Rashidi's goals and stay with those he scored from 94 onwards.
94 set is a metaphor for an era. That glorious era of Nigerian football that began its incipience in the 90s and peaked from 94-2002.
94 set is very clear. That World Cup team. If anyone wants to talk of era, he won't say 94 set.
jihday: Oliseh already negates the need for Mikel plus the main reason why it’s so easy for Okocha to be in the team ahead of Mikel is that Okocha can single handedly win you games, freekick, goals, shots, can play corners, have long throws, can cause chaos if opposition decide to park bus. Abeg no talk this thing again o 😤
Football today is no longer a single handed thing. It is more about who makes the whole team perform better and Mikel Obi rules in that.

Not true. The need for double pivots has been there. That is why Man City had Gundogs band Rodri. Barcelona had Xavi and Busquets. Arsenal had Rice and Partey and now Rice and Zubimendi.
The demand for midfielders being good defensively is in high demand now.
kennysville: Can you beat your chest and say if we take a poll on your choices above, it will then be a popular choice? There lies your answer
Unfortunately, this is not about a popular choice thing but actual quality.
Ambrose was unbelievable. Never in my life seen a right back with such driving force. He literally used to drive Keshi's conquering Super Eagles from the right flank. A spectacle to behold. Popular vote will not change that quality fact.
Celestine Babayaro was tactically insane. He did it at the highest level. There was this game he had against AC Milan that was just madness.
Celestine Babayaro at Chelsea was a very brilliant player. Iroha can never scrape such level of performance.
Taribo, that is not even a debate.
Mikel Obi, he was a creative midfielder that also comes with a full defensive package. When it comes to creativity, Okocha edges. When it comes with the full package, offensive, defensive and controlling the midfield, Mikel tops and it is not even a debate.
Being the best player on the pitch in the Champions League finals against a Super Bayern Munich says it all.
