naijababe:

now people u all need to lighten up as for nnenna1 and nferyn till kingdom u will continue to counter each other so just leave it, belief happen to be the most delicate and toughest theory anyone can try to prove. I mean i find it ludicrous that one system of belief or faith consider others superstitions or myth, xtians believe that Jesus walked on water but consider the concept of the Krishna with six arms stupid or myth. Please someone explain to me the difference to me because one sounds like the other, if u can believe one u shouldn't have a problem with the other. Don't get me wrong i do believe in God but that's it the rest i think is dogma.

You're right, naijababe. Both of them are equally silly.
But how about you? Believing in God isn't? What God and why? And where does dogma begin?

Intense prayers of committed Christians shall receive speedy replies.

As opposed to past years when they did not? Easy OUT clause i.e. if your prayers are not answered speedily then you are not committed.

The generous shall have many causes to smile.

See above.

Sacrifices shall be rewarded in more ways than one.

Yawn.

Breakthroughs are coming, but note that they are for the building of the kingdom of God. Beware of wasteful spending.

Is this just me, or are these prophecies really vague? Let's see what's going to happen to Nigeria.

Year 2006 is the make or break year, either you build it or you destroy it. The Lord said If we handle this year with care and with intense prayers, then the foundation of eternal greatness of Nigeria could be laid this year. But handled casually or carelessly the foundation for the disintegration of the nation could be laid this year. Thats why you need to pray brethren.

Considering, elections are coming up in 2007, this kinda makes sense. The country's in a delicate position politically what with Obasanjo's rumoured return and all that. Plus, nothing's really said here - "either make or break?" Which is it? How will we know, according to the Bible if this comes to pass or not. Can anybody lay specific criteria down? Then we'll see at the end of the year. For me, these prophecies so far seem particularly open to interpretation.

Aviation. Some of you will remember. (This is not part of the prophecy, I am just telling you history now} Last year, I asked you to fast for 49 days, if you check the 3 crashes that occurred, they happened within 49 days. I asked you to fast and pray, some of you did, some of you didnt. God honored those of us who prayed. The plan of the enemy was, that there was to be a crash per day for 49 days, and you prayed and God intervened.

God is saying we are not out of the woods yet and that the Minister is not to be blamed but that the forces contending for Nigeria are many, some of them are evil and vicious. It will take more than casual prayers to incapacitate and control them. Nigeria must pray this new year. If we pray we will laugh last.

Some people on this thread have handled this brilliantly, I believe. I think this is the typical Nigerian response of shirking responsibility and assigning blame to unseen forces. Yes, allowances can be made for "acts of God" but the truth is our aviation sector is in shambles. The buck stops at the Minister. That's HIS job. There's no one else to blame, except maybe OBJ for putting him there.

Crime, God said sincere effort of the police shall be rewarded, but He says the emphasis is on the word "sincere".

What a man (police force) sows, he will surely reap. If they try to catch criminals, they'll catch them? Amazing!
Nothing to see here, please move along...

... to the rest of the globe!

A major evil organization will suffer a major setback.

Did anyone else read "Al Qaeda"? Maybe bin Laden WILL be captured. Well, the U.S. IS trying to find him. Or maybe it's North Korea, Iran, Microsoft, who knows.
Hmm... I'm outta ideas. Could mean too many things. Or maybe it's a spiritual evil organization. You know, one we can't see. How will we know about the setback then? I guess someone'll tell us.

Intense prayers will be required to minimize natural disasters particularly in areas formerly considered safe.

Am I noticing a trend here? I suppose this means if we pray intensely, the natural disasters will be averted.
Or maybe it's the other way around. If the natural disasters do not occur, then we prayed intensely. If they do, then we didn't.
What if the natural disasters occur intensely? (Don't mind me o!)

Am I flirting with danger here? I'm a little worried, but I've got to say my mind. I don't think the man upstairs will mind, do you?
Religion / Re: Have Nigerian Youths Lost Confidence In Religious Leaders? by thekrafter(m): 7:14pm On Jan 10, 2006
ijebuman:

I never had any confidence in them in the first place. The earlier Nigerian youths free themselves from 'religious bondage' the better our society will be. If anything, this forum has shown how all logic is thrown out the window where religion is concerned.

How right you are, ijebuman, how right you are. If we apply critical analysis, logic and reason to everything we do, Nigeria would be a MUCH better place. Some responses on this forum leave me utterly bewildered. I do not think it only applies to Nigeria. Most rational human beings throw out reason whenever it comes to "spiritual matters". James Randi's site is an example of how intellectual darkness can be found all over the world. Thankfully, SOME people are pushing back the frontiers of this darkness every day.

gentleone:

God's ways are not our ways and we cannot question Him why bad things happen.
what will pastor adeboye gain by saying what God has not said?
as tammy said, prayers can change/avert some situations, now that God has sent His servant to tell us to pray, what have we to loose if we do pray
for those that want to pray, let us pray earnestly and for those that won't we will pray for u wink

The same thing everyone who makes prophecies stands to gain, credibility. Even the Bible says that is a sign a prophet is from God (actually the other way, but you know what I mean).
Religion / Re: Pentecostal/Catholic Marriages: Why the Disagreement? by thekrafter(m): 12:08pm On Jan 09, 2006
Otokx so you are finally settling down! Congratulations! As long as there's true love, that's all that really matters.
Religion / Re: Fornication or Homosexuality, Which is a Greater Sin? by thekrafter(m): 12:05pm On Jan 09, 2006
Personally, I don't see how what two adults do in the privacy of a room is hurtung anybody. Most people have sex because it feels good, homosexual or heterosexual.

By the way, do people feel the same way about female homosexuality as about male homosexuality? Most men will tell you the sight of two women getting it on is arousing but two men? "ewwww!"

It's time we realize our viewpoint might not be the only valid one.

About marriage, everybody has the right to be happy/unhappy a the partner of his/her choosing.
Religion / Re: Pastor Adeboye Says Satan Planned 49 Plane Crashes by thekrafter(m): 11:17am On Jan 09, 2006
Personally, I think these prophecies are a load of bull. They are so deliberately vague that they are almost impossible to go wrong, and they mostly have escape clauses. This disaster will happen unless we pray to avert it.

"Intense prayers will be required to minimize natural disasters particularly in areas formerly considered safe."

For instance, what exactly is the above prophecy saying? That natural disasters WILL occur? or that if we pray, they'll be minimized? No matter which way it goes, someone can hold it up and say "Ahh, the prophecy came true o!"

I was in church when I heard the 49 days story. All I could say was "Ah ah". I'm not really a Christian, but have a lot of respect for men of God, especially those I think are honest, including Pastor Adeboye. Now... I'm not so sure. This seems like exactly the same tactic psychics use.

Fantastic thread. Kudos to Nnenna1 and nferyn.

@Nnenna1. Faith is a choice, you're right there. However, most religions take extreme positions. OK maybe that's an extreme word (extreme) but what I'm trying to say is, they're mutually exclusive e.g. Christianity believes Jesus is the ONLY way. It's a feel-good thing to say as long as one lives a good life, one's fine, but your very choice of faith doesn't allow you say that (unless you pick and choose from the Bible and it doesnt allow that either). Only one religion can be right... or maybe they're all wrong.

[first post] Finally! Some Nigerians who ACTUALLY use their head when it comes to the "spiritual". allonym, your comments make my heart glad. As long as people ask critical questions about the world we live in and the opinions we hold, the world/Nigeria can only get better.
