Oluh: Please I need you guys to advise me on this. I just got a graduate assistantship in a school I applied to last year and I have an interview for another school in Abuja next week which I was only offered a scholarship of 18k which was splitted into 9k each for the 2years. I’m confused on what to do. For me, I'd reschedule my appointment and update my DS-160. Summer/Fall no far again, and going for your interview with a GA gives you confidence and improves your chances. Reason am comrade. Cheers!!! |

bukhety: Oga, so English is Nigeria's native language? I'm currently studying in UALR, and English Language requirement was waived for me because I completed my first degree in English language. Just email the graduate school, they will waive it for you. |

There’s a code on the site to waive off application fee Did you apply to UALR too? |

ayenika1: I saw a good course that fits into my job description, course and disability but it's 23credit units (certificate) for 10K in a state University which is affordable to me and sponsor
Is it advisable to apply for such course putting into consideration the credit units (2yrs course I think), the cost and the certificate issued?
Advise, please Try and avoid anything graduate certificate. It's hard enough to get a visa with an associate admission, talk more of graduate cert. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the odds are not encouraging. Goodluck. |

I only have intake stats of the BISA program, and I can tell you it is high, irrespective of your undergrad background, but you will need to take some prerequisites though. A lot of people are going for the BISA because of its IT advantage like Data Analytics. One can secure GA if you are in ANY program, but you just have to get here first for that. Tinyemeka: Hello bro.
Thanks for all your insightful posts.
Can the bolded be said for the MBA program? I am torn between applying for the BISA (STEM advantage) or the MBA program. I am concerned about which one has a higher acceptance rate because my CGPA is a 2:2, above 3.0.
My B.Sc is in Microbiology with enough years of only banking work experience.
Also, can one secure a GA position in the MBA program?
Would gladly appreciate your prompt response as I wish to complete the application between today and tomorrow.
Thanks a lot. |

Please do you have an idea if I’d need to submit a POF to get an I-20 form? If you have any form or deficit, even if it's $50, you will need to submit POF. |

I got into the US with a passport with less than 6months validity. COVID altered alot of things. MiamiePizza: You can not use that passport to apply. It must be valid for the next 6months. For applying to get a new passport, be ready to pay highly for this to get it ASAP. When applying for passport, avoid Ibadan like a plague. Even some who applied since last year haven't gotten theirs and they have not even started this year's job.
If you have your money like 100k, you can get your passport same day in Akure. Don't ask me questions concerning this though cos I don't know who can run it for you in Ak.
My friend did his around October and he's already in Dubai now |

Visa is only for entrance into a country. If your visa expires in-country, it means if you come back to Nigeria, you will have to first apply for a new visa. But if you remain in the US, the duration in your I-20 should cover you, so, you won't go out of status. sbot: Wow.
Appreciate your kindness, boss.
But should the new school go beyond the time your visa expires, what’s to be done, please? |

Technically, you can. But some schools are stubborn, you might not be able to transfer out immediately. They will mandate you to do one semester with them. sbot: Boss,
Can one change to another school on getting to the US? Like accept another admission offer after Visa had been granted, please?
Thank you. |

It is possible they will ask for those documents when you submit the application. Just saying though, because that is how some schools does it. Yhasf: Good evening guys ,
For those applying to TAMUK for fall 22,please is this a normal occurrence on the Applytexas platform as aLL the credentials filling spaces keep saying "the school doesn't ask applicants to fill out this ". |

Chances are you might not get the passport before you leave Nigeria. When I left in August, my passport was to expire Dec this year. I didn't mind. I applied for a new passport, I captured and zoomed off. The customs officer there told me an authorized 3rd party can pick up my passport for me, but I cannot collect it until my current passport expires as I cannot have 2 valid passports in circulation. So, as soon as Dec runs out, my wife will pickup my new passport and waybill it to me. MelaninGemstone: Hey guys, my passport is expiring in April 2022
Can I still use it to apply for Visa ?
My school resumes in January and I wanna start applying for another passport today, but I don’t know when it will be out |

Being passionate is good and commendable, but it might not help in the short run. Not to speak ill of your chances, getting a Visa with a graduate program without funding is difficult enough, now you add grad cert. What people do is this....They come in with a program they have the best shot at getting a Visa, when they get here, after one semester, they switch. If you are for fall, it's not too late, reapply to another program and defer your grad cert program. When you land, you can hustle for GA on campus BoiGrammz: I applied for data analysis bro, it's what I have passions for. I have been admitted. I'm just hoping I won't get a visa denial because it's a graduate certificate course. |

The BISA program has a huge intake and being a Management related course, even though they are trying to fuse it with IT, they don't really have RAs and TAs. The only available funding is GA which you can only get when you arrive. Jerulo: I got admission into UALR to study BISA. I have been trying to get a GA but it’s not been easy. Still applying and hoping too |

BoiGrammz: Little Rock, what abbbout you? I'm already in Little Rock, came in fall 2021. Goodluck with your interview. But what did you apply for the certificate program? You should have applied to the BISA (Business, Information and Systems Analytics) it's a STEM program and admission rate is high. |

Themaths: Nothing is impossible. I submitted my application for Fall 2021 by February 15th. Got admission and funding (TA) by June 14th 2021.
Just look for schools with extended priority deadlines for funding consideration.
And yes, you can get funding without GRE, but the GRE improves your chances especially if you are going for STEM courses. Goodluck |

Thanks a lot to those that have been contributing to this thread. I must confess, I've learnt so much after going through the thread.
Please I wanted to ask if it's possible to start my application on January and still get access to funding/GA; would it be too late by then? I could start this month but I've not written GRE yet. Core research Engineering programs are more funded. Your only chance is you coming here with assistantship and hustle for an administrative GA. Goodluck |

Bond4141: MS.c Accounting. Non thesis course.
Do I really need to write a prof in the department to get scholarship? I have gotten one admission with little funding though, I’m still thinking of applying to better schools and aiming for better tuition waiver or scholarship but I don’t know how to go about it. Almost no school will fund a non-thesis MSc, whether in the form of GTA or GRA. But you can get a certain percentage off of tuition and maybe a GA position when you land. All the best. |
Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Themaths(m): 3:32am On Nov 21, 2021 |
Gerrard59: To be honest, most schools have deadlines around early or early mid December. You will have to begin a search for schools that have deadlines in January or February so you can prepare adequately - LORs, sending test scores, SOP etc. Also, you need to search for schools where prospective professors have similar research themes as you do. Preferably check those that can accept your profile because that's a competitive program where Indians and Chinese don't joke with. This information is not entirely true, bro. using the words "Most Schools" is kinda too strong. Countless schools have priority deadlines of up to February ending and March, but early application is always welcomed, especially when the applicant needs to be funded. |
