Hello, Good People Of NL;

I need help with some information;

- Are there good courses and good schools i can get admitted into if i apply with 2'2 (second class lower), Actuarial Science, University Of Lagos (2018 set).

- I don't want to take the IELTS, i believe i am proficient enough. I read somewhere some schools exempt Nigerians (But if it is compulsory, i definitely will take it).

- I am skilled in Data Analytics, Public & Media Relations, Insurance and Music Business. I have few works and internships to prove some.
I had previously travelled to UAE for 3 Months.

- I am sponsoring myself. No parents, no relatives. I don't earn salary. I am self-employed, i have 2 startups in Nigeria registered with CAC under my name. (A Music Agency and a Business intelligence Outfit).

What is the minimum i have to build in my account for how many months to enable my chances?

I read it's possible to get scholarships up to 70% or more sometimes. I really wouldn't mind getting one to assist me else i will have to sort for low fees courses and Programmes.

Will i be eligible for scholarship, considering i have 2'2?
Which scholarships can i apply for and how? Or make i no just waste my time?
Which relatively low-fee institution can i apply for?

I wish to apply for student Visa for Masters or Post Graduate Degree or any other. I don't mind another undergraduate degree, say; a course of 2-3 years.

I hope the right people sees this and i get help.

Thank You.
If you would want to continue with the Actuarial science/Mathematics line, you need to take some professional exams, at least, Exam P.

The Actuarial science program is highly coveted in the US, not more than 25 schools offer it at the master's level, believe me, I searched and surveyed all of them. I applied to about 2, Middle Tennessee State University and Illinois State University, but because I was coming with an engineering undergrad, no professional exam, and even with my GRE I didn't get any admission. So, be ready if you want to continue with it.

And of course, yes, you can always get funding, but it depends on the strength of your application; work experience in the field, GPA, GRE, professional exams if applicable and research interests and God's favour too.

Lastly, for the English requirement, I applied to at least 14 schools, all waived the TOEFL/IELTS for me. Sometimes it will be stated in their website that you need it, but a simple email to the grad coordinator can get this waived for you, while others state it categorically that if you are from Nigeria that you don't need it.

If you need any further information, just holla. Goodluck.

I don't think you're not late. Many Fall 2022 applications would begin next month and end in December (for funding consideration). Prepping for GRE and TOEFL could average 4 months. You've just got a tight window, but it's possible.
End December for priority funding consideration? No naw, not all schools. Some school's priority deadline is Feb 15th, others April 1st. The person should check with the schools he intend to apply for. Goodluck.

Fayetteville, sir. But I wouldn't mind little rock as well or any other suggested school.
Little Rock doesn't have industrial engineering. Just mechanical, systems and elect/electronics. Then mechanical and materials for PhD

My interview was slated for 9:30PM. I came at the exact time, the security men were asking me why I was late, I told them I came at my exact time.

Completed my check-ins, realized I'm the second to last on the queue, no matter.

Me: Good morning

VO (Huge white lady): Good morning, place your fingers there for me.

Me: Alright.

VO: Pass me your i-20, passport and DS-160.

Me: Here they are. Please, I stutter, if you would be so kind to me patient with me.

VO: Of course (she had time, I was the last person she was to attend to) So, I see you are going to the University of Arkansas for your masters.

Me: Yes, masters in Mechanical Engineering.

VO: Alright, what did you study in your undergrad?

Me: Same Mechanical Engineering, here in Nigeria.

VO: Alright. What will this program for your you?

Me: This degree from the US will place me in a very competitive position in the Engineering Design industry....

VO: cuts in...will you be going back to your previous job?

Me: Yes.

VO: Did you have a talk with them you will be returning to the company after your studies?

Me: Yes, my supervisor especially was in full support, he even paid for my Visa fee to show his support.

VO: Alright. Will you be returning to the same position?

Me: Of course not, a more challenging and managerial position.

VO: Pointing at my i-20, who is *****?....

Me: He is my older brother.

VO: Where does he live?

Me: ******, here in Nigeria.

VO: Starts typing furiously.... alright, I will be granting you this visa, you will get your passport after.. blah blah... COVID-19 blah blah.... She was just speaking so fast, I couldn't even comprehend anymore.

Me: Thank you.

Know what you filled in your DS-160, look them straight in the eye, even though you stutter or cannot speak fluently. God that did mine will do yours for you. Thank you once again.

VISA APPROVED
TIME: 8.30 2nd July, 2021. Abuja

COA = $35k
Funding = $13k
Deficit= 22k

Arrived early, just to get myself acquainted with the environment. Did all the documentation and stuffs. And it was time for the interview.

I was so reluctant to when the VO called for next, and I was asked to go there, (she denied the last 2 applicants)...I almost went for the other window that jus got opened...Anyways sha I proceeded. Did my Biometrics and stuffs. The interview was as follows

Me: Good morning ma'am
VO: Good morning, pass me your documents.
I passed her everything....i20, sevis, passport etc.

VO: oooh, you're going for a Master's in this Construction Engineering and Management, that's nice.

Me: yes, that's correct.

*she stares at the I20, starts typing....

VO: what will you do after you complete the program

Me: where I work at the moment, **** Construction. The Research and Development department has just been opened, I interviewed for a position in the department and I was recommended, all that is left is to get the minimum requirements of an msc. The position triples my current pay. In the long term, I plan to start my own construction firm, where I will focus majorly on "Digital Construction".

She stopped typing and started at me, saying,

VO; What is Digital Construction?.

In my mind I was like, yes, I don get am

Me: Digital Construction is an application of the emerging trends in technology to Construction. Emerging trends includes Internet of Things, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, etc. Its very rare in Africa and I want to be one of its pioneers over here.

She continues typing for a while....

VO; who is your sponsor

Me; mentions the name

VO; yes, so??

Me; He is my uncle

She looked like She wanted more information and I picked it, so I continued talking

Me; He has been an ever present figure in my life, he actually sponsored my first degree. In my 3rd year as an undergraduate, he told me, "if you can graduate with a first class, I will sponsor your international masters", and here we are.

VO; when did you complete your Bachelors Degree

Me: 2016 ma

VO: how long have you worked at **** construction. (Almost like she wanted to confirm the information on the DS160)

Me; this is my fourth year, I have been there since the beginning of year 2018

Vo; nods her head and continues typing for a while, then she asked what does your sponsor do

Me; He is into large scale mechanised cocoa farming. He exports cocoa from Nigeria to Cameroon and Benin republic.

She nods her head and picked up the white paper....all the things wey she talk after, na she know o....lol.

Thanks to everyone on the platform, I learnt a lot, in all honesty. Although I haven't been long on this portal, but I took time to read a lot from the previous pages and I really learnt. God bless you all.

My advice; If you can get a relevant working experience to your intended study plan, it's a big plus.

See you all at the top.
Bro, I was with you at the embassy, the guy you were speaking with before you went in for your interview. I sent you a PM. Congrats bro.

Good morning... I had already scheduled an appointment for November and requested for an emergency appointment in lagos and I haven't gotten any response. About 5 min ago I saw Lagos has a slot for July 6 and I didn't know if to cancel my previous date and reschedule. So I refreshed the page to be sure am seeing the right thing, the date disappeared and the site blocked me from viewing the page today till tomorrow..
Next time, when you see a favourable date, quickly select it. Slots are limited especially for Lagos. When you select a new date, it will automatically overwrite your previous appointment. Goodluck.

So I heard it is possible to get a PhD admission with just a bachelors degree...

I am in doubt so I came here to the USA forum to confirm if it really is true?

About to graduate from a university in belgium and considering my options. Thanks.
Yes, it's possible. Popularly dubbed "Direct PhD", but your profile has to be strong to land one. Goodluck.

Not all schools in USA accept it. He will have to make research and check out schools that accepts Wes evaluation for admission but there are many school that does.
Yes, there are hundreds of universities in the US, there are more schools that accepts than those that doesn't. He needs to sit down and start sending emails to grad schools.

Me too. I plan on making payment for both GRE and Toefl next week. Have you written the exam before? I don’t know what to expect.

About Funding, that’s not exactly true. Early Decision is usually 1st December or 1st January. For Fall 2022, hardly will any school starts admitting in September.

Edit: I just went through your posts, you intend applying to schools in Canada, I have an HND so I’m restricted to a few countries.
No! Don't let your HND restrict you, simply do a WES paid evaluation. WES evaluates HND like they would a B.Sc, you can get whatever a bachelor's holder can get, funding, scholarship, anything. Goodluck
