Nairaland GeneralRe: Remains Of Over 60 Infants And Fetuses Discovered In Detroit Funeral Home by TheOdd1sOut: 6:19pm On Oct 20, 2018
mikkywebs:
The remains of more than 60 infants and fetuses were found stashed in a Detroit funeral home, police said on Friday, calling the discovery “deeply disturbing.”

The incident comes about a week after the badly decomposed bodies of 11 babies were found hidden in a false ceiling at a different funeral home in the Michigan city.

No connection between the two cases has yet been established, Detroit’s police chief said. He added city, state and federal investigators were looking to form a task force to investigate the improper storage of human remains.

Unrefrigerated boxes containing about 36 sets of remains were recovered from the Perry Funeral Home along with another 27 sets of remains in a freezer, police said.

“This is deeply disturbing,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters on Friday.

“I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN MY 41-1/2 YEARS (ON THE FORCE), EVER.”

Investigators are working to establish ages and identities.

An official with Perry Funeral Home, which offers burial and cremation services, declined to comment on the incident.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement it revoked the funeral home’s license and shut down the facility after inspectors “found heinous conditions and negligent conduct at the home.”

Exterior of the former Cantrell Funeral Home building is seen on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 in Detroit. An anonymously written letter led Michigan inspectors to find badly decomposed remains of 11 infants hidden in a ceiling compartment of the shuttered Detroit funeral home.

Police have also launched an investigation into the now defunct Cantrell Funeral Home, where the remains of the 11 babies were uncovered last week after authorities received an anonymous letter leading them to the remains.

Its former operators have not commented to media.

In April, state regulators found “deplorable, unsanitary conditions” at the same premises, including embalmed bodies in an unrefrigerated garage and other badly decomposed remains, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement at the time.

The funeral home was also accused of several licensing and financial violations, the agency said.

CelebritiesRe: Eight Times Meghan Markle Proved She's Down-to-earth Even As A Royalty by TheOdd1sOut: 6:15pm On Oct 20, 2018
mazaguyh:
Meghan Markle never ceases to prove she is a down to earth kind of person
Back in May, when Meghan Markle stepped inside the flower-lined nave of St. George's Chapel on the grounds of Queen Elizabeth II's Berkshire residence, Windsor Castle, she was a retired actress with L.A. roots and a Toronto address.

An hour later, when she made her way out with new husband Prince Harry at her side, she was a fully-fledged member of the British monarch, with a shiny new title—the Duchess of Sussex—and an actual horse-drawn carriage to boot. But she held no airs about her presto change transformation into a royal and precisely what that meant for her future.

Take for instance, the exchange she had with longtime pal and Dior Beauty brand ambassador Daniel Martin as he applied neutral shadows to her lids and crafted the perfect pale pink lip to ensure she was ready for the bountiful cameras that awaited her in Windsor.

Admitting he wasn't entirely sure how to act once she became Her Royal Highness. "I asked her that. 'Do I bow to you? I don't want to disrespect you, but I've known for almost 10 years. What's up?'" he recalled to People. "She started laughing and she said, 'I'm always going to be Meg. Meg.'"

Because for all the required curtseying and her inability to wear dark hues on her nails, Meghan still sees herself as the Cali girl who loves a good green juice after a yoga session or a glass of red with friends. (You know, the ones that still call her Meg.) And in the months since she pledged to love and to cherish (but not obey) one Prince Henry Charles Albert David, she's shown she has no intention of changing no matter how many tiaras she wears or fancy-sounding properties she acquires.
Behold, all the times she's proven to be royally down-to-earth.

That time she served as Harry's personal umbrella holder.

The expectant couple took no less than 10 staffers along with them for their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Kingdom of Tonga, but it was Meghan who took on PUH duties Tuesday. As Harry gave a speech in Dubbo, Australia's Victoria Park (somewhat ironically about the area's recent drought issues), his wife helped steady the parasol above his head. And though rainy weather can make looking good for the ever-present cameras a bit tougher, the duchess came prepared, trading her signature perfectly messy bun for an easy, breezy pony.

When She and Harry took public transportation.

After a day spent playing netball at September's Coach Core Awards in an Oscar de la Renta top and not-unsubstantial stilettos, Meghan and her man skipped the car-and-driver on the way back, opting to ride the two hours to London on a public train. "Bizarrely sharing my train with Harry & Meghan today," one fellow straphanger tweeted. NBD.

Her decision to sweetly break royal protocol.

Since enlisting in The Firm, Meghan has carefully abided by the no selfies edict, but she simply couldn't help herself when she spotted her mini me—complete with a "Girls Can Do Anything" message tee—in the throngs waiting outside of the Sydney Opera House Monday. After one fan told the royal, "We feel she looks a bit like you," Meghan replied, "I was literally about to say the same thing!" before gamely agreeing to a pic.

And when she womaned up through her first months of pregnancy.
By all accounts, Meghan isn't suffering from the same intense morning sickness that plagued sister-in-law Kate Middleton through all three of her pregnancies. But chances are, at roughly three months along, she's experiencing some exhaustion, soreness or that uniquely unpleasant combination of feeling both queasy and hungry. So plowing through some 76 engagements in 16 days while remaining perfectly camera-ready at all times is no small feat. Admitting to reporters Tuesday that she was "running on adrenaline" and feeling "a bit tired," Meghan nonetheless confirmed her commitment to stick to the packed schedule, adding she was doing "pretty well so far." As it turns out, girls really can do anything.

When she refused to show up empty-handed.

At this point, we'd anticipate that hosts don't expect Meghan to turn up with much more than her presence as present. Still, when the couple arrived at the Woodley family's Mountain View Farm in Dubbo Tuesday, the self-described foodie came armed with a tin of Fortnum & Mason Royal Blend tea and a banana bread she had baked herself in the kitchen of Admiralty House, their Sydney accommodations. She added chocolate chip and ginger to her blend, an ingredient also heavily featured in the ginger berry crumble she once whipped up for the Suits hair and makeup department. "I love baking that lets you play and experiment," she told Cooking Light of her more adventurous approach to cooking, "the less precise stuff is right up my alley!"

bukifemi1:
1967-70: WE WERE SURROUNDED

THEY FOUGHT FOR OUR OIL, WE WERE HUNTED FROM EVERY ANGLE AND WE HAD TO CHOOSE A SIDE, WE HAD NO CHOICE

We are Ijaws, Ogonis, Ikwerres (coastal Igbo), Efik, Ibibios.

They came for our lands and waters. We were students, teachers, workers, farmers, fishermen, old men, old women and children.

We had no guns to defend ourselves, yet the treasure in our lands is the reason the Nigerians would not give up and the Biafran military government would not succumb.

Nigeria needed our oil for themselves and needed our lands and waters to incapacitate the Biafran military. The Biafran government needed to protect our lands and oceans from the Nigeria forces so they will not be rounded up.

The Biafran government lacked enough men to combat Nigeria forces. Nigeria needed to use Biafrans against Biafrans in order to preserve Nigerian lives.

They came after us from every angle. The Biafran government took our young men to battle sometimes against their wish and the Nigerian forces destroyed our communities, kill our young ones, rape our women when they capture a community loyal to the Biafran government and her young men actively fighting for the Biafran military.

We were like in the midst of the ocean and the deep blue sea. Either way we are caught in the net.

Many of us were forced to break camp of the Biafran military and go to join the enemy Nigerian forces, not because we liked it so much but because that's the only way to preserve our communities from extinction.

We were forced to denounce every affinity with Igbo (the largest and leading Biafran ethnic group) and those of us who were really Igbo were forced to drop the Igbo identity and adopt the identity of our sub-tribes.

We had to change our former Igbo names given to us by our parents as a result of close friendship with the Igbo and expression of love shown by one Igbo friend or the other.

As a result, the Biafran military described our actions as acts of betrayal. No, but it wasn't betrayal, neither was it out of hatred for the Igbo. It was for survival.

In order to survive, you must submit to the superior powers and Nigeria appeared to be the superior power between the two sides. BIAFRA had no weapons, no international support, no food. Whereas, Nigeria had all the world powers supplying them with weapons, Nigeria had foot in abundance and had the media to deceive us as much as they could.

Because BIAFRA military considered us saboteurs, when they over power the Nigerian forces and get a hold of our communities, they don't spare those of our young men who have jumped over to the other side and many were buried alive because BIAFRA couldn't afford prisoners of war because it is far too expensive to keep a prisoner when you have no food for your loyal soldiers.

We were never at peace as we were ran over by the two sides and each time a new side takes over, we suffer a new tragedy.

For thirty months of 1967-70, we were in the worse nightmare a people could ever be subjected to.

We hated Nigeria for starting the war but we hated the Biafrans the most for not understanding with us. Even though we were Biafrans ourselves, we tagged Igbo Biafra and blamed the ills of the war on the Igbos who didn't reject their identity.

I couldn't blame us, it is painful to see your brother killing you by himself when all you were trying to do was to survive.

And

I couldn't blame the Biafran military instead because it grieves to see your brother jump out of your camp to join the same enemies you were protecting him from.

We were separated by the war.

The battles continued, Nigeria continued with their hate propaganda against Igbo, using every advantage to destroy Igbo image among the coast and the experiences of the war were cementing the lies told by Nigerian media.

They didn't stop there, before the war was over, they ensured they killed our foremost combatants that fought on their sides. They kept killing our people in the army even after the war secretly and openly until they ensured that the high ranking Biafran Nigeria military officers that knew their secrets had been wiped off.

They didn't stop at the military, they also waited for the civilians that had guts to show it and they chopped off their heads in secret and in the open before the world and the world did nothing.

This is our story. We are no saboteurs, we only wanted to save our race from extinction and our brothers in the hinterland doesn't hate us either, they only wanted to win the war and to win a war you must show no mercy to saboteurs; that's what they were taught in the military.

We are to blame those who spreaded propaganda across our lands.

We should blame those who set brothers against themselves to kill themselves.

We should blame those who invaded our lands and started a war of genocide against our people.

We should blame the international community that saw the genocide but rather turned a blind eye and cheered the terrorist (Nigeria) army because of the treasures beneath our lands and waters.

Blame those who after many years have killed more people in our region, left our lands polluted and turned our young ladies to prostitutes and our young men to political thugs, armed robbers and kidnappers.

Car TalkRe: Volkswagen Unveils Intelligent Head And Taillights That Communicates Road Info by TheOdd1sOut: 5:57pm On Oct 20, 2018

Volkswagen, just like Daimler's Mercedes-Benz , has revealed a new headlights and taillights that will do more than just lighting up the road.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img921/3323/z3RFbA.jpg

The new lighting systems includes micro-pixel HD headlights with up to 30,000 light points and high-performance LED headlights that can actually create patterns on the road to communicate road information to the driver , which will further improve safety.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img921/9634/xYAT3W.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img924/1729/ztlwrH.jpg

The rear matrix taillights can also display warning messages to other drivers like path projections while parking or maneuvering.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img923/5326/8Ucf3w.jpg

Personalized messages like the vehicle’s charge level and traffic situations ahead can also be displayed.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img921/8755/TgcSoP.jpg

The IQ.Light currently available as an option on the new Touareg sports has a total of 256 LEDs that can light up the road for a range of up to 500 meters.

The "Optical Lane Assist” function project lanes in front of the Touareg to give the driver precise information about the width of the SUV and the distance to the road lane markings.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img922/7474/EqOnMX.jpg

Other concepts from Volkswagen includes panels placed on the front, side and rear of cars that displays alerts such as braking and accidents ahead.

These intelligent headlights are similar to what Mercedes-Benz revealed few months ago.

What do you think?
