Pope Benedict expresses shame for Christian violence in history

REUTERS/Giampiero Sposito)

Pope Benedict, leading a global inter-religious meeting, has acknowledged “with great shame” that Christianity had used force in its long history but said violence in God’s name had no place in the world today. Benedict spoke as he hosted some 300 religious leaders from around the world – including Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Taoists, Shintoists and Buddhists – in an inter-faith prayer gathering for peace in the city of St Francis.

“As a Christian I want to say at this point: yes, it is true, in the course of history, force has also been used in the name of the Christian faith,” he said in his address to the delegations in an Assisi basilica on Thursday. “We acknowledge it with great shame. But it is utterly clear that this was an abuse of the Christian faith, one that evidently contradicts its true nature,” he said.

It was one of the few times that a pope has apologised for events such as the Crusades or the use of force to spread the faith in the New World. The late Pope John Paul apologised in 2000 for Christianity’s historical failures.

Benedict, who in his address condemned terrorism, said history had also shown that the denial of God could bring about “a degree of violence that knows no bounds”. He said the concentration camps of World War Two revealed “with utter clarity the consequences of God’s absence”.

The Assisi gathering, held on the 25th anniversary of a historic initiative in favor of peace hosted by John Paul in 1986, this time did not include common prayer among the delegates.

FG to deploy Yoruba teachers to Brazil

March 21, 2015

Abuja – Aminu Nabegu, Director monitoring evaluation and research in the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps, on Friday said that Federal Government would soon deploy teachers to teach Yoruba Language in Brazil.

Aminu said that the countries were already discussing the modalities for the implementation of the programme.

He said once the agreement was reached the government would deploy the teachers and some cultural experts to Brazil.

“The Yoruba-speaking communities, which reside in the Bahie region of Brazil, are the major target for this programme.

“That is where we have large numbers of people believed to be the descendant of the Oduduwa,” he said.

Aminu said a centre for the study of Yoruba culture and language had been opened in Brazil.

The Director also said a similar programme had been extended to Yoruba-speaking communities in Benin Republic. (NAN)

Noble Drew Ali was dealing with fckuery beyond a certain point - plenty of it.
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad ran with Drew Ali's baton for a long time but also came unstuck due to the limitations of his own ideas and not treachery.

Huey P Newton (a brother I admire a lot) succumbed to the twin contradiction of gangsterism and drugs.
Spin it however you like, but there is no point dressing mutton up as lamb.

Khalid Muhammad died of brain aneurysm. Unless there is proof to suggest otherwise, what you have up there is 'conjecture'.

Dr. Malaki York needs to be taken off your list. There is nothing noble about this brother.

Jamil Abdula Amin (formely H.Rap Brown), sadly, went the way of Huey; as a result of a descent into petty crime.

Coscharis, represented by the company’s Chairman Mr Cosmos Maduka, alleged that the NCAA demanded an increase in the prices of the controversial vehicles over what the company had submitted earlier.

“NCAA told us that the initial price is not proper,” Maduka, said.

He also said the cars were sold to NCAA as used vehicles following the delay encountered when the company sought clearance from the office of the NSA.

While the committee insisted that the current price of the vehicle shouldn’t have ordinarily exceeded 50 million Naira each, Coscharis out rightly rejected it, saying it that could never be the case with BMW B 7 series anywhere in the world.

But in a bid to state the fact, Coscharis revealed that the NCAA demanded a jerk up of the prices of the controversial vehicles from what the company had submitted earlier.

According to the Chairman of the company, Mr. Cosmos Maduka “NCAA told us that the initial price is not proper”.

The hearing further revealed that the controversial cars were originally purchased on behalf of the Lagos State Government for the 2012 18th National Sports Festival and later sold to NCAA

Okonjo-Iweala denies appointing PWC to audit NNPC account

April 30, 2015

The Minister of Finance Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Thursday denied appointing Price WaterHouse Coopers (PWC) to conduct the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) audit.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, in Abuja.

According to the statement, a group of three accounting firms filed a suit against the minister before a Lagos High Court with the allegation.

“The group is alleging that she appointed the global audit firm PWC to conduct the recently concluded forensic audit of the NNPC against the provisions of the Local Content Act.

You are very right. Some people are just Naive. Do they know the cost of a bullet proof SUV?

Let them just tell us the worth of Fashola and Ameachi's SUVs. I can bet they are far more than 100 million Naira each.

I know some people will start saying that the cost of bullet proof SUV is less than 50 million Naira, forgetting the model and make of the car.

And for those saying that he doesn't need such cars, they have forgotten the assassination attempt made on the governor, killing his personal aides and members of his family.

The car might look expensive, but from the knowledge I got when I jokingly priced a fairly used bullet proof BMW X5 from a car dealer in Abuja. The response I got shows me that buying a new for bullet proof SUV for 90 million is fair and in some cases very cheap.

Let the Governor be abeg. May 29th isn't far. If the next governor likes let him be using open roof convertible car or power bike as his official vehicle in other to save cost, na him sabi. We will only be praying for him to see another May 29th after 4 years in one piece.

Missing $20 billion: Okonjo-Iweala denies appointing PriceWaterHouseCoopers

April 30, 2015

The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Thursday denied appointing PriceWaterHouse Coopers to audit the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over the allegation the company diverted $20 billion oil money.

This claim was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Paul Nwabuikwu, Thursday.

According to Mr. Nwabuikwu, the statement came in response to a lawsuit filed by a group of three accounting firms before a Lagos High Court, accusing Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala of violating the local content law by appointing PwC.

“The group is alleging that she appointed the global audit firm PWC to conduct the recently concluded forensic audit of the NNPC against the provisions of the Local Content Act,” he said.

As finance minister and coordinator of the economy, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala played a leading role in 2014 as the government tried to debunk allegation by a former governor of Central Bank, Lamido Sanusi, that $20 billion oil money had been stolen.

After efforts to reconcile the accounts at a Senate hearing failed, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala announced that an independent forensic audit would be conducted.

The government later announced the hiring of PriceWatersHouseCoopers.

Despite completing its work in September, the government only released the report on Monday.

The report, which indicted the NNPC and has asked the corporation to refund over at least $1.48billion to the federal government, has however been discredited after PwC affirmed it could not vouch for its content and overall quality of its work.(NAN)

Adamawa governor, Ngilari, Buys Two Lexus SUVs For N180million

APR 30, 2015

The decision of the Adamawa state governor, Bala Ngilari to buy two Lexus SUVs for N180million, about $900,000 and two Hilux pick up vans at N400million have triggered outrage from members of the state House of Assembly.

Armored Lexus SUV
On Wednesday, the members passed a resolution calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the purchases.

The House, now split into factions, further called on the state government to re-instate the sacked Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau, Malam Bello Umar, who it said was sacked by the executive for querying the purchase and for not following due process.

At its plenary presided over by the Speaker, Ahmadu Fintiri, the House also recommended a national honour for Umar for querying the purchase and other executive excesses that cost his sack.

According to the resolutions which came under Matters of Urgent Public Importance raised by the Deputy Speaker, Kwamoti Laori, told the house that the state government had sacked the Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau after whistle-blowing on the executive recklessness.

Laori also claimed the Lexus cars were used ones. While a used Lexus armoured car can go for about $120,000, a new one usually sells for less than $200,000, online research shows.

The session also witnessed the declaration of three seats as vacant.

The affected members, Umar Abdulkarim (PDM-Nasarawo/Binyeri), Hamman Tukur (PDM-Jada/Mbulo) and Adamu Usman (APC-Toungo) where elected to the House under PDP but they defected to other parties to contest in the last general election.

The House unanimously condemned the purported impeachment of the speaker and his deputy by nine law makers at the Conference Hall of the Government House and announced a panel that will probe the action of the ‘Gang of nine’.

The Gang of Nine also met today and declared as illegal all the actions taken by the Fintiri led HOuse. The Gang has Jerry Kundisi (PDP-Gombi) as Speaker and it enjoys the backing of Governor Ngilari.

The conflict has made the police tighten security around the asembly complex.

cramjones:
Anyone wondered what it will profit GEJ to hire and fire when he just has a few weeks to hand over the baton? Here is why.

Although, not up to 2tn naira as was used to fund the elections, but I can tell you for sure that the presidency spent over $1 billion for elections. You can check my previous postings to show you the break down on what that money was spent on. Asides dipping hands in the nation's treasury all Ministries and MDA's where required to contribute various amounts from their ministries and perform certain tasks in their areas of strong holds. This involved funding youth groups, bribing voters on the day of elections etc. Many of these ministers and heads of MDAs agreed to this, but we all know that 90% of that money went to their pockets with the crumbs used for the election.

Now that GEJ's eyes is open to the deceit of OPC, state governors and others that promised heaven and earth after receiving billions. He definitely will view him self as stupid to let them retain their various positions. Hence the firing and hiring. Including the Nigerian police who could not deliver.

It is sad, but come May 29th, the rest that were not fired by GEJ will be fired by GMB and the ones appointed by GEJ if not a good fit will still be fired. Not only that sensitive ministries and MDAs will be probed and corrupt officials brought to book. Hopefully a jail term starting anywhere from 10 years to a 100 years.

Long live GMB and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

N7billion CAN bribe: Pastor threatens legal action against SSS

April 29, 2015

A pastor, Kallamu Dikwa, on Tuesday threatened to sue the State Security Service for alleged violation of his fundamental human rights.

Mr. Dikwa lamented that his ordeal at the SSS started at the beginning of the year when he publicly alleged that the Christian Association of Nigeria received N7 billion from the Goodluck Jonathan administration to garner support among the Christian community for the re-election of Mr. Jonathan.

The Borno pastor petitioned the SSS Director General, Ita Ekpenyong, through his lawyers from the Right And Democracy Volunteers.

He reminded Mr. Ekpenyong of how SSS officials stripped him and forced him to make statement under duress.

“On the 16th March, 2015, Pastor Dikwa returned to the DSS headquarter with his lawyers in Abuja under their invitation through one Mr. Paul,” the petition stated. “The lawyer was denied being present during the chat. The interrogation officers, Felix and Tony stripped the pastor naked and ordered him to make a statement under duress when they ordered him to copy verbatim a statement scripted by the DSS.”

A copy of the petition, made available to journalists in Kaduna, informed the SSS that the constitution of Nigeria guaranteed Mr. Dikwa’s inalienable rights, including the right to freedom of expression, respect to the dignity of his person, and right to liberty which were conveniently violated by the SSS.

The lawyers demanded an apology and compensation as enshrined in Chapter 4 of the constitution.

“In this circumstances, we believe that Pastor Dikwa is entitled to N300 million compensation and a guarantee that he would no more be intimidated or harassed by operatives of the SSS without regard to the laws of this country,” the petition said.

“Having regard to the exigency of the situation, we have instructed our legal team to proceed to file a court action to protect the fundamental rights of Pastor Dikwa if after seven days hereof the SSS in its wisdom fails to remediate the matter in compliance with the petition.

” Pastor Dikwa may be a lone victim of circumstances, but he shall not be alone in fighting this violation of his rights.”

As other commentators have suggested, since the emasculation of that rogue media outfit has already been set in motion, the Buhari campaign organisation should simply have left well alone. AIT will amount to nothing without its preferred government patronage, and even dog on the street knows this.

Other luxury cars, like the BMW 730Ld and the Range Rover, all armoured, are used. The President travels in a motorcade of 30 cars and ten escort motorcycles, along with police cars and 6 Mercedes S-550 of SSS surrounding the presidents car

==========================================================================

Canada
The Prime Minister of Canada is driven in a motorcade of five cars or more. The motorcade is adjusted for certain public events, as seen fit by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Colombia
The motorcade is made up of 3 BMWs plus 5 Toyota 100s all armored plus a Prado armored level IIIA for Police Escort and an ambulance and no less than 8 motorcycles. All the vehicles have presidential tags.

India
The president's motorcade also always consists of the former presidential car, a black Mercedes-Benz W140 armored limousine, which is used as a spare vehicle. Along with it is a white Mercedes Benz ambulance, black Tata Safari SUVs whose number vary from 5 to more and a few black sedans. The presidential car displays the emblem of India instead of the number plates.

Kuwait
His motorcade consists of three identical cars escorted by Chevrolet Suburbans and marked police vehicles.

The President traveled in a motorcade of four Hummer H3 and eight escort motorcycles, along with police cars.
