Franknetter, there's a lot of misconceptions about Africa. Most of the time, i'm always irritated by the ignorance of some people but with time, i got used to it.

I've seen people who thinks africa is a country, people who think all African live in the desert with a dung hut. I have a Cameroonian male friend who told me about someone asking him if he has wild animals like tiger or gorilla as pet before coming to the states.

I think the media has been a real disaster when it comes to Africa bevause they only show the deserts, people starving and animals everywhere. I have a friend who think Africa looks just exactly as what was shown in French Montana's Unforgettable video. It's just too funny

Exactly what I was talking about the other day and one slowpoke came out saying shit. Ignorance is a great disease, the media misinformed most people overseas.

So the Jamaican didn't know Nigeria is in Africa till you showed her right?

Oh sorry, she knows Africa is a continent but thought African is our language, she could as well think European is the language of the people in Europe

Maybe I was over thinking the whole thing.

Cool

I'm out smiley

You just trying to complicate this. If she knew Nigeria was in Africa or Africa was a continent she would she have made that blunder? You don't get it they see Africa as a continent not a country, which is because of lack of information. When you encounter such you'd understand.

I read your post and I am just trying to let you know what is.

They know we don't live on trees and they know Africa is a continent.

Just like some Nigerians when they are going to Germany or Italy, they will say they are going to Europe.

That doesn't mean they don't know Europe is a continent.

They are not ignorant, they just want to let you know that Africa is behind in so many ways.

That's why they ask you silly questions.

The guy asking you can he call you Africa, is probably a racist nobody is that dumb.

So, my point is they are not ignorant. They are trying to tell you something in a twisted way cool

You're the ignorant one for not seeing my point and their own.

I shouldn't reply this but why is it that people just like to complicate life?
Concerning Nigerians saying they are going to Europe whose fault is that? not like they were not taught at school besides a Nigerian wouldn't ask "Can you speak European?" Am talking about people being ignorant you bringing racism into it. This has nothing to with being black or white, but lack of knowledge or information. Just so you know the guy who asked is from china we are a bit close now and in his words "i was being ignorant at first" and i said "ikr" and for the Jamaican girl who asked if i can speak African .I showed her a map of Africa and explained a few things and she accepted. In her words "i'd love to go to Nigeria or possibly visit major countries in Africa to get to know more about the culture, i admire it".
It's now left to you to decide who is being ignorant here.

The way you paint it is not the way they mean it.

They are referring to the fact that most African countries are very behind.

I have seen an American make jokes like, "the energy he has can light the whole of Africa".

We are behind and we have to accept it.

That's the way we can move forward.

Did you just quote my post without reading? Did any line in my post say Africa is heaven? Does the fact that Africa is behind have to do with people being ignorant ? Get what am saying don't just come up an avenue for unnecessary argument.

@ FrankNetter i read where you said, people over there, don't know much about Africa, that they refer must people from Africa, no matter your country in Africa, they just term you *He is from Africa *

i like to know, don't they learn History over there in High school?Atleast get to know African countries by their names.

If i can answer this i would say most people over here are just ignorant. Before the internet came they thought we live on trees and all. Imagine this Chinese guy at my school saying "Can i call you Africa?" and i was like "Can i call you asia?".

Well you can't blame them, you should blame the media they've painted Africa black and ignored valuable information.

The one that makes me mad is when they ask you "can you speak African?" or say "i'd love to travel to Africa" and am like wtf Africa is a continent with 54 countries you need to be more specific.

Those guys that were arguing about culture... Say Oyinbo people no get culture . I have something from a whiteman in London for this is talking about Nigerians in London...

“But the trouble is that many Nigerian living in the area have neglected to pass their traditions to their children. A few insist on the languages being spoken at home, but many have given up the struggle of teaching them to unenthusiastic children, and English Language has become the family language.

“True, they take their children home on holidays, but their culture and language, as known in Nigeria, are on a steep decline. Dubi Imevbore, an expert on language, said if a language dies, so does the human spirit. A people without a culture will lose their self respect.

All said.

Hi guys...please don't be annoyed with my question. I will be traveling to the USA for my masters in criminology/criminal justice ... I have been seeing so many threads about getting into medical line such as nursing because it pays very well over there according to what they say...my fear now is, with my master of criminology/criminal justice, does it mean that I can't get a decent job with good pay unless I have a degree in nursing?

A lot of people's careers have been destroyed because of wrong advices. Are you after the pay or the passion? do not do what you do not love. America is a land of opportunities.

I've read it countless times online how mechanics in the US make alot of money and I keep wondering why 60 person of Naija mechanics are earning a little income. At times I used to think maybe those guys over there are magicians, well ... like I've once said on this thread that car users in Nigeria don't mind using expensive car, buy costly spare parts but pay just a little for the service rendered by the mechanic to fix their car's problems... on the other hand I won't blame the car users.. I blame the mechanics e.g my master that has refused to package his workshop despite the fact that he owns the plot land he's using.. em no get package at all.. we're still using whining jack.. hydraulic jacks.. we work on sand .. we look so dirty self. but that one no mean say we no sabi work oo.

For example there was this day one Military officer in a nearby Cantonment came to our workshop in a convoy, I believe someone prolly his colleagues recommended my master to him but he was disappointed when he got to our workshop cos it didn't look like the way he expected it to be.. he told his men to make a U-turn and take him out of that vicinity.. lol.

As OGA come wey we tell am wetin happen.. he said.. "leave the foolish man alone!!! na motor em con do abi na Workshop em con look!!!".. lol.. I no fit laugh.

in fact.. d tin taya me.

lol that's it you can't eat your cake and have it. nothing goes for nothing you could have the skills and all but when your business is not presentable, your skills would suffer. back home some people just want to make money whereas they can make more money it all depends on the way you present your self to the public.

You don't get my point

There is nobody, or sub group without its distinct culture.

The black Americans have their distinct culture, the Hispanics have their own, and the whites have theirs too.

Culture is your way of life, and how can you say that a group has no way of life?

That is the dumb statement many Africans say, that a group have no culture undecided

yea i catch you. Culture is the total way of life of people the way they live, interact they have their own beliefs and ways of life fine but don't forget the akatas(black americans) originally were africans who were brought to the u.s during the slavery era. Their culture is rooted in West and Central Africa. Slavery greatly restricted the ability of African-Americans to practice their original cultural traditions, many practices, values and beliefs survived, but over time they've been modified or blended into with European cultures such as that of the Native americans. so what's that? where's the culture if it's been modified?
