A 16-year-old boy who hails from Ijero-Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti, Sunday Ojoko on Sunday won the 2nd Ikogosi Warm Spring Marathon Race.
Ojoko beat other 86 athletes who participated in the 7.5km competition to emerge the overall winner.
He finished the race in 27.18 secs, while the first runner-up, Ojo Ayobami finished on 28.38 secs.
The third placed winner, Samuel Sunday, completed the race in 29.52 secs.
The young lad won a cash prize of N50, 000 with several other gifts from telecommunications outfits such as MTN and Airtel Nigeria.
The runner-up and third place winner received cash prizes of N30, 000 and N20, 000 respectively with other gifts.
Ojoko, who also won the maiden edition of the competition last year, went home with the same cash prize of N50, 000 with several other gifts from the Ekiti government and individuals.
The General Manager of Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr Kayode Adewunmi, thanked the youth who participated in the competition.
He said the objective of the competition was to encourage and motivate youths to participate in grassroots sports.
Adewunmi said that the annual event was organised to discover talents who could represent the state in long distance races at National competitions.
Presenting a gift to the winner, the General Manager of the Ikogosi Resort Centre, Mr Tolu Ajeyomi, promised his continuous support to the sports council.
He said he was delighted with the successful completion of the competition and urged the participants not to relent in participating in grassroots sports.

The primary election to pick candidates who will fly the flag of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives election in 2015 have started producing very shocking results. As at last count, 13 House of Representatives members on APC platform will not return when the eighth Assembly convene in June, 2014 from Lagos state.
Six of them: Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Ikorodu Federal Constituency; Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1; Monsuru Owolabi, Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency; Dauda Kako-Are, Mushin Federal Constituency 1; Ganiyu Hamzat, Mushin Federal Constituency 2; and Rafeequat Onabamiro, Badagry Federal Constituency; all withdrew from the race. Seven of them were beaten in the primary conducted today, Sunday, 7th December, 2014.
The shock of the primary was the defeat of Deji Jakande in Mushin Federal Constituency 1. He was humiliated by immediate past Chairman of Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area, Taofeek Adeyemi Alli. Alli scored a whopping 235 delegate votes while Jakande was left with a paltry eight votes.
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu will not be smiling right now. His son, Fouad was beaten in the race to pick APC ticket for Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1 after the withdrawal of the incumbent, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas from the race. The ticket was won by current Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on Youths, Sports and Social Development, Dolapo Badru. To pour salt on the Akiolus’ injury, Fouad came a distant fourth in the race with 21 votes. Badru had 128 votes; Fatade, 67; and Ayo, 58.
On Friday the 5th of December 2014 would not be forgotten in a hurry as the 9th edition of The Experience Lagos took place at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). The event witnessed over 600,000 men, women and children who came en masse for what has come to be regarded the largest music concert in Africa and arguably the largest gospel music concert in the world!
Long before the event began, the publicity for the event had taken various forms of expression, little wonder the theme for the 2014 edition: 1 God 1 Voice was well circulated online and offline in the weeks leading up to the event.
Disclosing one of the reasons for the theme, the convener of The Experience Lagos and Founder of the House on The Rock church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin had stated that the land of Nigeria is crying for justice and peace coupled especially as the 2015 election is around the corner. He added that the event will serve as a time where people all over the globe will cry out one true God with one voice in petition.
The Lagos Metropolitan Gospel Community Choir opened the event alongside Sammie Okposo, and thereafter came ministrations from Freke Umoh, Onos Ariyo and Midnight Crew. There were also moments of prayers for Nigeria, the nation’s economy and other state matters led by several Christian leaders such as Pastor Taiwo Odukoya of the Fountain of Life Church, Rev Sam Adeyemi of the Daystar Christian Centre, Bishops Mike and Peace Okonkwo of the TREM church, amongst others intermittently.
One remarkable moment of the Experience 2014 was Nathaniel Bassey. Micah Stampley surprised the delighted audience when he joined the trumpet playing artiste on stage for a rendition of his popular song, Imela. Not long after, Grammy award winning singer, Donnie McClurkin joined the duo into what became an awesome trio as the Americans belted out Imela like it was sang in their native language.

Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, may be arrested by security agencies this week over an alleged criminal conduct.
Sunday Tribune reports that the finance expert is likely to be picked up on Wednesday for questioning and possible detention.
This follows a petition alleging perjury against Ambode authored by Lagos APC Integrity Group.
Copies were submitted to the police and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) last week.
Attached to the petition were documents to prove the alleged perjury against the governorship candidate.
The petitioners accused Ambode of lying on oath by claiming in his Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination form in 1981 that he was from Ilaje in Ondo State, only to claim in his APC nomination form, on oath again, to be from Epe in Lagos State, during the governorship primary contest.
The former Accountant-General of Lagos State is now said to be under security surveillance, to forestall his escape from the country.
He would be declared wanted if he manages to escape from the country before security agents get to him.
A member of the Integrity Group disclosed that the party members behind the petition decided to be open about it so that Ambode’s case would not be couched as impunity on the part of the Federal Government or harassment by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ambode, backed by the party’s national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, last Thursday, defeated 12 others to clinch the party’s ticket.
Most had opposed the process leading to the exercise and insisted on indirect primary, rather than direct primary that was conducted.
There are two cases at the Federal High Court in Lagos challenging the process and conduct of the exercise.
Ambode’s godfather, Tinubu also faced alleged perjury case after his emergence as the governorship candidate of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1999.
Late human rights lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, pursued the alleged perjury case against him to the Supreme Court.
The apex court however ruled that Tinubu, as governor, had immunity from investigation from the Inspector-General of Police as demanded by Fawehinmi.
The court held that the police could make discreet investigation, but it was not permitted to come in contact with the governor in any way in the course of the probe.
The governor must also not know that he was being investigated
A former Head of State and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2015 election, Muhammadu Buhari, has said he is confident of defeating President Goodluck Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, if INEC conducts free, fair and credible elections. He also stated that he is qualified to contest the election and urged those calling on him to step down due to his age, to go ahead and vote for whoever they consider to belong to the younger generation, arguing that the Constitution and Electoral Act did not put an age limit for anybody seeking elective office.
“For example, look at what happened in the Supreme Court in 2007. There were three justices of the Supreme Court who presided over the appeal from the Court of Appeal. And the justices, three of them, said there should be another election because the election was not conducted according to law. Three justices said well, there were flaws in the election, but all the same, the ruling party has won. And then, the Chief Justice, decided to cast his vote with the three justices that said that yes, there were flaws, but all the same, the ruling party could have won. So, if the Supreme Court justices can be split, that means the election was controversial. “We gave the evidence and the decision of the three justices that annulled the election arose from the facts. We collated them from the field and got them. That shows the contradiction with the Electoral Act. And that was why they annulled the election. The justices were led by retired Justice Oguntande; himself and the previous Chief Justice, Muktar, and one justice from Delta State,” Buhari said.

The popular musician was in his newly acquired 2014 Range Rover Evogue which was presented to him last week by his record label, Avatar.
It was gathered that Oritsefemi was returning from an event at about 3:30am at Ilupeju when he noticed a Toyota Camry car and another unidentified car on his trail.
On getting to Fadeyi, the suspected robbers pulled up behind him and gave him a chase, apparently to snatch the Range Rover car.
In the ensuing chase, Oritsefemi running for dear life was hit by a moving truck.
Incest by the accident, the robbers alighted and approached Oritsefemi and the other occupant of the car but had to make a retreat when sympathizers jumped out of their cars to rescue Oritsefemi from the damaged car.
"The suspected gunmen approached the driver.
They ordered him to stop. Pointing guns at him, but Danku refused to stop.
He accelerated trying to escape. While he was struggling with the robbers,a truck conveying loads of Cement hit the vehicle accidentally. The Range's driver’s side was smashed. Danku lost control. The truck hit him by the chest through the driver’s side. The airbag came out immediately”, Oritsefemi revealed.
“I was at the back the back seat with my brother. I quickly cried for help before some Good Samaritans rushed out from unknown area in Surulere to rescue Danku who had already been in coma. He could neither talk nor see anyone at the point”.
He has been hospitalized in Ikeja where he is recuperating.
“I thank God for my life and manager. No life was lost. My fans should pray for me”, Oritsefemi Concluded.
The Russian government has denied that the aircraft, filled with military hardware, arrested in Nigeria Saturday has any link with Russia. The Eastern European country said through its embassy in Nigeria that the plane wasn’t Russian and had no link with Russia. “According to the information of the Embassy, the detained in Kano plane, allegedly carrying military hardware on board, is not Russian,” the Russia Embassy in Nigeria, tweeted via its handle @RusEmbNigeria late Saturday.
Media reports had suggested Saturday that the aircraft, now being detained at the Aminu Kano Airport in Kano, originated from Russia. The plane, loaded with arms, bullet proof vests and a chopper, is believed to be on its way to neighbouring Chad, when it was intercepted by Nigerian authorities. Although it confirmed the aircraft was being held and investigated, the military did not say where it originated from and where it was headed. “An Antonov Cargo aircraft carrying some military hardware was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in the early hours of Saturday 6th Dec. 2014,” the military tweeted via its handle [@DefenceInfoNG]. “Investigation is ongoing to determine the content and origin of the aircraft. Further details will be made as soon as the investigation is completed.”
Security operatives at the Kano Airport had seized the plane when it landed at the facility at about 2a.m. Saturday as a result of technical problems. Crew members of the airplane were immediately detained while investigations continued, officials said. “Security has since been beefed up at the airport in order to ensure proper investigation,” the officials added.
The General Manager, Communications, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Yakubu Datti, confirmed the seizure of the plane. He said the pilot sought permission to land at the airport after the plane developed problems. “The plane had a technical problem and the pilot sought (for) permission to land at the airport’’, he said. Mr. Datti said security agencies had since commenced investigation into the matter. Security sources told PREMIUM TIMES the plane was travelling to N’djamena, the capital of Chad. PR Nigeria, an agency known for distributing press statements on behalf of the Nigerian military, later circulated a statement saying the aircraft contained “a chopper tucked in it”. “… Intense investigation is ongoing including using diplomatic means to unravel the mission of the aircraft, its origin and destination,” the statement said.
This is the third time since 2009 that planes loaded with arms would be arrested in Kano, our correspondent says. The detained planes were later released after investigations.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has insisted that there is no feud or tussle between himself and current governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; contrary to widespread media reports on the perceived feud.
In a statement issued by his media office on Satturday, Tinubu said, “For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concocted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood.
“In this instance, I reference a recent story run by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt that political charlatans and enemies are at work, fueling unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship.
“My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development
“Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn’t the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe. We often debate, agree or disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page.
“The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements are part of every political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos.
“We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving stories aimed at destabilising the party and its leadership. The media must be wary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs”, the statement read.
“At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground where disagreements exist.
That is what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos state deserves as Nigeria’s pacesetter in terms of democracy and development”, Tinubu asserted.
Mrs. Juliana Godwin, a 42-year-old Junior Secondary School I (JSSI) student of Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Abuja, has become one of those persons with strong will to change her condition.
Mrs. Godwin, who hails from Riyom in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, had her education stalled by lack of sponsorship, a situation that made her to drop out, in 1983, of LEA Primary School, Riyom. “I had to leave for Jos in 1983, since my father could no longer sponsor my education to secondary school because he had no money. While I was with my cousin, I enrolled in a tailoring shop to learn dress making. I completed it within a year and six months”, she told Sunday Vanguard.
In 2001, she and her children left Jos to join her husband in Abuja, where they live at Gosa village, along Airport Road.
An industrious woman, Godwin became the bread-winner of her family. Since had skill in hair plaiting, that became a source of livelihood for her and the family. Later she ventured into hawking of water in a basin in Gosa market to boost the family’s income. “In 2003, I was able to save some money from water hawking. I started pepper and tomato business with N1,000 from the savings. I also went into corn roasting business, but my husband stopped me from the business in 2007,” she said.
In 2008, Godwin decided to go into vocational training with a non-governmental organisation called Refocusing Nigerian Talents Organisation, RENITO, where she was trained in soap (liquid, medicated and bar), pomade and disinfectants production. “Now I can produce and sell the products I was trained on, and I started with N1,500”, Mrs. Godwin narrated. “I came to realise that the business was lucrative and helpful to me and my family. I decided to make savings towards going back to school after I dropped out in 1983. “My husband was against my decision and quarrelled seriously with me. But I didn’t give up on my decision. In 2013, I went on to enrol at Junior Secondary School, Gosa, Airport Road, Abuja, where I started in JSS I F. I was able to raise N10, 000 to pay for admission expenses. “Why I decided to start from JSSI was because I had never in my life stepped into the four walls of a secondary school. I told myself I will start from JSS I, as it will help me to have the foundation of secondary school education and to understand what I would be taught.
Security agents have uncovered a new strategy by Boko Haram to launch terror attacks as the insurgents have now resorted to the use of cows for bombings. The Federal Government yesterday said with this new strategy, Boko Haram strapped bombs to cows and herded the cows to human settlements before detonating the explosives. However, the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, who doubles as the Coordinator of the National Information Centre (NIC),who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja, did not give details on where the insurgents had employed this terror tactic.
Omeri also spoke on Monday’s attack on Damaturu by the insurgents, who launched another attack on Ashaka and Bajoga, in Gombe yesterday, raiding banks and bombing government buildings, including a police station. According to him, normalcy has since returned to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, and Konduga in Borno State, which the insurgents attacked on Monday.
He said: “The situation in Yobe and Maiduguri is calm… The situation has returned to normal. “Like Maiduguri, the insurgents have resorted to other means of invading society, and that is why they now use bombs; they strap bombs around human beings. “Sometimes, they strap bombs around cows, and push them to settlements. “That is why we have been calling for more vigilance and total collaboration and cooperation among citizens. “We urge all citizens to be patient, when you are subjected to searches and checks; it is something that we have to live with.

German kit manufacturers Adidas has decided not to renew its deal with Nigeria and the Super Eagles. Futaa.com reports early today that in August, Adidas had written to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, notifying them of their decision not to renew the current contract, which expires this month.
The global merchandise outfit signed a new contract with the NFF on March 6, 2010 and did not state specific reason for pulling out. Aside this, Adidas also complained that Nigeria’s coach and some players violated contractual obligations by wearing a rival’s kit at major events. With Adidas not renew the contract, Nigeria has lost a deal worth $7m-a-year, which will increase the problems for the cash-strapped national teams. The NFF admitted finding a new sponsor is proving hard.
The Super Eagles have endured a difficult year, with problems both on and off the pitch damaging their reputation and their results. Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the visit of five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as unwarranted, unnecessary and uncalled for.
The governor said PDP as a party must stop condoning indiscipline, saying; “nobody should be treated as being bigger than the party.”
He said further that Obasanjo, who does not appreciate others deserves no respect, adding that “no amount of mudslinging from him will stop President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.”
The governor said visiting Obasanjo to plead with him to rescind his decision not to participate in the party’s activities was capable of encouraging other members of the party to openly disrespect the office of President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria as being done by Obasanjo.
Governor Fayose, who called for the immediate suspension of the former president from the PDP, said; “A man who has refused to respect the office of the President of Nigeria that he once occupied does not also deserve respect from anyone.”
He urged the party to set a panel to probe Obasanjo’s anti-party activities.
The governor, who described Obasanjo as one of the major problems of Nigeria, added that the former president’s open castigation of President Goodluck Jonathan was unbecoming of someone who led the country for 11 years and wasted billions of Naira in his attempt to perpetuate himself in office beyond the constitutionally recognized two-terms.
He said: “Have you ever heard a former president of the United States of America, USA openly abusing a sitting president of the country?
“Does it mean that former US president, Bill Clinton agreed with all the policies of George W. Bush and the incumbent president, Barack Obama?
“Obasanjo is behaving un-presidential and he must be told to respect himself.”
Speaking further, Fayose said Obasanjo was already a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and that he was pushing for one of his loyalists to be the party’s Vice presidential candidate.
He said; “Obasanjo is a man who can never be pleased. His principle of life is; if it is not his way, it must not be another person’s way.
“Even if President Jonathan gives Obasanjo his blood today, he (Obasanjo) cannot change because he is already neck deep in the APC agenda, with his eyes on the vice presidential ticket of the party.
“Therefore, no amount of visits by PDP governors can make him change his mind about President Jonathan, whom he hates not because he has not performed, but because he (Jonathan) did not hand over his presidency to him.
This period seems not favourable to the career and personality of music star, Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj. In recent weeks, the entertainer has been bugged by various allegations of debts and decline in his creative talent. For a 32-year-old Ogun State born building engineer, Tijani Lateef, the devil that pushed him into raping a 12-year-old primary school pupil, needs to be exorcised while he is in prison custody, after the police in Lagos arrested him for the indecent act.

The young girl was said to have visited Lateef's his house around 7pm on the fateful day as he celebrated his birthday, where she met a group of boys at the party, to felicitate with him. It was learnt that upon her request, she was served an alcoholic drink, identified as McDowells, which was said to have intoxicated her and she lost consciousness in the process.
Punch Newspaper reports that seeing the condition of the girl, Lateef allegedly took advantage of her condition and raped her repeatedly. It was gathered that the victim’s father, Peter Adebayo, on getting wind of what happened to his daughter, barged into the suspect’s room and destroyed some of his property in fury.
The matter was later reported at the Oke-Odo Police Division and the suspect was arrested for the offence. A medical test conducted on the victim at the General Hospital, Ile Epo, where she was admitted for five days, confirmed a case of sexual assault.
A frustrated governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Sokoto state, Senator Umaru Dahiru Tambuwal vented his anger on a delegate and member of the House of Representatives, at the primary that produced Speaker Aminu Tambuwal as the candidate last night. Senator Dahiru slapped Isah Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni representing Tangaza/ Gudu federal constituency. It was not clear what led to the slap. Some said Dahiru had sensed defeat and was looking for an object to transfer his frustration.
But witnesses said Dahiru was on the queue to vote when he saw Bashar and dashed out to give Bashar the dirty slap. Security men rushed to separate the men and calm them down at the Giginya Memorial stadium,venue of the exercise that drew over 3,000 delegates from across the 23 local governments with 244 wards. In the primary election, Dahiru scored only 23 votes, while Speaker Aminu Tambuwal ran away with victory,by polling 3,462 votes out of the 3,513 cast by the delegates.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, proved his dominance in Lagos politics this morning as his anointed candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode floored 12 other aspirants to emerge as APC flag bearer in the February 28, 2015 governorship election.
Ambode, a former Accountant-General of Lagos State, was declared this morning as winner of the Lagos State governorship primaries by the chairman of the state gubernatorial primaries committee, Revd. Peter Obadan. According to the result announced by Obadan, Ambode won by landslide scoring 3, 735 out of 5,724 valid votes cast, while Lagos State Commissioner for Works, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, came a distant second with 1,201 votes. The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Ganiyu Solomon and House Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji scored 272 and 182 votes to place third and fourth respectively.
“I hereby certify that Akinwunmi Ambode having scored the highest number of votes cast is hereby declared winner,” Revd. Peter Obadan said. Obadan also commended the aspirants for displaying high level of maturity and understanding during the primaries, and told whoever that is not satisfied with the outcome of the primaries to approach the party’s governorship primaries appeal committee.
In other results, Governor Babatunde Fashola’s anointed candidate and former Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Sashore polled 121 votes, while former Lagos State Commissioner for Health and Education, Dr. Leke Pitan and former Commissioner for Rural Development, Dr. Tola Kasali polled 112 and 69 votes respectively.
