I was in your shoes last year researching on the same topic. I have an Upwork account of 5 years old with over $20K total earnings and lots of clients. I abandoned it in 2020 and wanted to resume using it for side hustle when planning my UK journey last year. But all my findings indicated that doing so is against my student visa rule as freelancing/self-employment isn't allowed. And your UK-based client might want to do their findings to be sure they aren't breaking the law by maintaining a freelancer-client work relationship with you when you are already in the UK on a student visa. I might be wrong, though, but the last time I checked, my understanding was that it has to be an "employment" not a contract or freelance role.

Yes if your former employer is a Nigerian company. If foreign then you need to get a tax ID and report your earnings for self assessment.

If your income is liable to tax only in the UK, the answer is no. If there are other jurisdictions where your income is liable to tax, then yes.

So I’m trying to open a traditional bank account (banks with physical locations that I can go to).

In the “Are you tax resident outside the UK” , what do I answer to? “Yes/no” ?

I’ve never made a tax payment in Nigeria before. I just get paid my salary and that’s all 🫠; I also asked my previous employer if he had any tax history I could maybe use since my salary apparently came with tax deductions, he said no (this one ehn 💀).

Based on my research, you will. You’ll only have to fulfill the licensing requirements of the other country, not get other degrees.

It’s quite dicey wrt practicing in the US with a UK nursing degree as I’ve recently learnt (something to do with different curriculums). But even this is not so much of an issue depending on how holistic your school presents your transcript and passing your NCLEX.
