TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f):
Are you telling me what you just drove past? 🤭

You’re very welcome to discuss that.

At least, I won’t come poking at your throat for “positivity” when you express displeasure at the unsanitary environment you see every time you drive home from work, because:

1.) UK is not a ‘family-member’ where I’ll unnecessarily start getting in my feelings every time people narrate the occasional unpleasantness of living in it.

2.) I know not to invalidate the saliency of your day-to-day bin encounter, just because I want you to acknowledge the positives even when you’ll still see that overflowing bin on your drive to work tomorrow.
🫶🏾
Zahra29:
It's okay Nancy, let's draw a line under this. I don't want to keep you from the negative agenda that I'm sure you've got lined up this evening.

Did you see an overflowing bin on your way to work today and you're so disgusted that the UK is filthy and is now worse than 3rd world?

Anyways, have a good evening whatever you're complaining about.

Exactly that. First-hand, day-to-day encounters with actual people currently living the sad consequences. Not “balanced” talk-points meant to serve comfortable parlor talk. 👍🏾

Google didn’t tell you it’s *I have ? 🤭

Zahra29:
Ha ha 😂

Negative Nancy is a known term used to describe someone who is always complaining and basically very negative. Verified by Google.

Have never heard of Positive Prisca before. Maybe Nancy came about it the same way she obtained her NHS views lipsrsealed

Okay, I need to stop before I become Petty Patricia 🙈😂

That’s an amazing feat! Well done and congratulations! 🎉

I have a full-time job which I have not mentioned the salary. But on the average we paid 4000 pounds per month for 4 months. We had no rent to pay in those 4 months because we had paid 4 months in advance in December.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Thewritingnerd(f): 4:30pm On May 14, 2024
Please correct me if I’m wrong, were you the one that got a circa-50k paying law-related job that had to keep calling recruitment cos they went silent for a few weeks after confirming you got the job?

Apologies, I can’t remember the clear details
EPEAKS:
I just want to encourage someone. My husband had half school fees, but because of a sudden development in the church we were running we had to divert the funds for a long term lease. So that the church can continue to run while we were away, and there was no other alternative. We ended up coming in with zero kobo and the school is a Russel Group, and students who are self paying can come in without school fees deposit.

Total school fees was 27,100 and even though we had housing challenges. I ended up with a good job in 4 weeks.

Long story cut short, in December we got a house with 4 months advance rent. We started paying school fees in January after the first 2000 deposit we made in October I.e. after so much pressure from the School.

Please note that we came in September 2023, and by end of May we will be having about 2300 left to pay as school fees.

My advice is, if you are sure that relocating is God's divine plan. Please relocate.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 3:32pm On May 14, 2024
I don’t owe anybody a balanced viewpoint because I’m not on a panel or a conference trying to present shiny talk-points for people to clink glasses over. I am saying what currently holds, day-in, day-out.

We have you and others to present the balanced view, and there’s me for the “negatives” like you put it.

What’s more “balanced” than that? 🤷🏾‍♀️
Zahra29:
Lol, no one asked you to spray confetti. I and others have pointed out flaws in the NHS and are advocating and voting for improvements.

However we can point out the flaws and also be honest to see the numerous good points about the NHS, something you appear unable to do. Your view isn't balanced, it's just negative.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 3:14pm On May 14, 2024
I can bash the NHS even if it’s not much better elsewhere. Two things can hold true at the same time. That things are worse in other places doesn’t mean I should spray confetti at something that’s obviously dilapidated to a considerable extent.

And true, we definitely don’t have to agree.
Zahra29:
Dupyshoo, Goodenoch and others have also shared data and personal stories of the dire state of healthcare/healthcare system in the US and Nigeria. Ticha has also previously provided insights on Canada and NZ to provide a balanced view.

Point is you don't have to bash the NHS like it's much better or perfect elsewhere. You're entitled to your opinion obviously, but we don't have to agree.

I can’t even lie that the things I’ve seen, almost made me understand why their citizens clamour for a peg to immigration. It’s really frustrating and I hate to say that I understand why most are anti-immigration even though most times their anti-immigrant views stem from misinformation.

dupyshoo:
It is well. I hope something is done about it soon.

The evidence would be divulging private patient records, which I unfortunately cannot do. 🫠
missjekyll:
Is it possible to evidence this? There is a wait list but that is too long .
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 2:46pm On May 14, 2024
In both cases. There are two really standout sad cases I really wish I could discuss to highlight the dire state of things but will be unable to.
dupyshoo:
Is it to diagnosis or to access treatment after diagnosis?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 2:38pm On May 14, 2024
I’m not parroting hearsay, I am telling you what is currently obtainable from where I work.
Zahra29:
That's certainly not the case anywhere I've seen or heard in the UK, but you're entitled to think what you think.

“The graduate route is a key part of the offer that we make to international students to come and study in the UK. The fees that these students pay helps universities to cover the losses they make in teaching British students and doing research. Without those students, many universities would need to shrink and less research would be done.”

Interesting statement.

From the article:

Tim Bradshaw, the chief executive of the Russell Group of leading research universities, said: “The overall message from the MAC is that the graduate route is achieving its objectives as set out by the government. We would therefore urge ministers to end the uncertainty and confirm as soon as possible that the route will continue in its entirety.”

I wonder why Mr Tim wants prompt confirmation if Russel Group of schools would adjust fine without feeling the financial brunt of these policies, like many immigrants claim 🤔🤭

Way too many sad cases like that cancer one. Too many.
kwakudtraveller:
Bro, I truly empathise with you. Having to wait that long to be treated must have really upset you, and rightfully so, and I know that Africans typically do not go to the hospital unless they believe that it’s a serious issue.

It was on this same thread that I read about someone having gastric cancer, and they kept telling them to go home because they didn’t conduct proper checks until it was too late, and they ended up in hospice.

A friend had partial stroke and he was seen almost immediately by the nurses but he still had to wait close to 4 hours to be seen by a doctor. How is that person supposed to yell and demand that he be attended to immediately by a Doctor? When even the Doctor is probably exhausted from seeing hundreds of people in a short amount of time.

I think, in general, the NHS has a lot of misplaced priorities. I see them hiring for a lot of mid-level roles that they do not need, and a lot of these managerial staff have duplicate roles.

They need more skilled medical staff with better pay and not some of these new roles that have yet to add any value to the NHS. A major audit needs to be done at each trust so they can get their shit together.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 12:30pm On May 14, 2024
Yes, there’s a waiting list for even cancer patients. Spanning as long as 44 weeks.
Zahra29:
The bolded is one of the reasons the Tories will lose the election - because many people remember how much better the NHS was 15/20 years ago before the Tories came in and started defunding public services.

One of Labour's key pledges is to improve/transform the NHS ,including waiting lists, so no-one is saying we settle for things remaining as they are.

Cases are usually triaged and urgent/life threatening cases (and minors) are not left waiting in A&E or on 2 year waiting lists. Anyone here been diagnosed with cancer or diabetes or hepatitis or sickle cell or heart disease etc etc and had to wait 2 years to start treatment?

The NHS isn't perfect, I completely agree, and there is an element of post code lottery that determines the quality of treatment some areas receive, which isn't fair.

However, on the whole it is very good considering the limited resources and increasing pressures it is faced with.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 11:59am On May 14, 2024
Truly experience is the best teacher because I’ve seen a patient who had to wait 53 weeks to get surgery, only for them to come in on said day, starve for more than 12 hours, and have the surgeon call in in the evening to say her surgery has to unfortunately be canceled because of unexpected complications with the ongoing one. After waiting for a whole 53 weeks! 🫠

What people who parrot this “free healthcare” thing don’t mention is that your US employment can also come with healthcare insurance. They’ll yap about taxes too like you don’t already pay cut-throat tax here in the UK. They’ll yap about gun violence but guess who UK tabloids are disrespectfully calling “sword boy”?

When you weigh the pros and cons, it DOESN’T balance out. It very gently tilts towards one end. People only argue an obvious advantage when they want to feed themselves copium because they can’t do much to change where life has put them. 😶

Zahra29:
Lol, experience is the best teacher as they say...

Would advise anyone dreaming of the US to hurry and relocate in the next few months before Trump gets in and blocks/restricts certain countries again.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Thewritingnerd(f): 7:17am On May 13, 2024

With the current state of NHS, please if you can afford private health care, do it for yourself and family.

There is just no way to fast track, despite the urgency of his situation 😕 😢

Personally I feel like if people want to come ask for information under the guise of “my friend” , “my bro”, it shouldn’t be a problem.

After all, we see when people use ad-hominem attacks and other personal digs at people based on their past posts just because they don’t agree on a topic.

Most times, you don’t even have an answer to their question, you just want to specifically pick on the “my friend”, “my bro” part of the quote.

Knowing who a particular question is about, doesn’t remove or add anything to the quality of the response they get, so I don’t understand the fixation. 🥴

Eh God!! OP please stick to that ABSN ohh!! The opportunities in nursing in the US for you are BOUNDLESS omg. It’s a full door opener!!

Let me give you a cheat code if you’re interested in Anaesthesia >>>
Do your ABSN >> maintain a very high GP >> Do extra science classes if you need to make up for your eventual GP and maintain high grades >>> Apply to work in an ICU position >>> work there for at least 2 years (I recommend 3 yrs so you can save for CRNA school ) >> Apply to CRNA school >>> finish that and earn a Doctorate in nursing and an AMAZING career that pays well over 250k-400k dollars a year!!!

Hey 🤠

**** How i which to see you physically and give you 7 spankings on your butt .

1. You scaled through being labelled a correspondence degree (NOUN) holder by a reputable University in the USA and got admitted to full MSc Public health and decline
it for a lesser course of study .

2. Why are you in a haste ? Do you want to disappear and appear in the USA just like that ? Accelerated nursing programs allow you to earn a BSN degree quickly and you thought the University might decline your Public Health and went for the lesser one .

3. My friend , no matter how far you have gone on a wrong way turn back now . If it's possible change back to Public Health . It's not about just receiving form I 20 and memorize possible answers to questions .

4. MSc Public Health is your way . Scholarship is not 100% compulsory for MSc applicants if your family can show the embassy that they will fund your study . Don't go there and waste your SEVIS fee and MRV in a twinkle of an eye.

*** Hit me back if you are die hard in attending the interview .

Best Wishes 🙏

The economic reality right now is different from those times. How will the UK government subsidize uni education to ensure absolutely free costs right now?

In Germany, income tax is higher than in the UK, on top of that income tax, they still pay statutory solidarity surcharge tax. How many people in the UK will happily pay this when they’re already groaning about how much tax they currently pay?

So if UK is to model Germany’s way, who will bear the brunt?
Zahra29:
As I've mentioned a few times, this was the status quo until the Tory government increased the fee cap as soon as they came into government.

I agree that it would be very difficult as the increased fee cap has been in place now for about 12 years I think - however it's not impossible. If Germany and others can manage it then it's just a case of whether it's seen as a big enough priority.
