raumdeuter:Yes, but not the only big games. Give me an international/continental final where Haaland absolutely made his mark. |
raumdeuter:Euro 2000 final - he didn't choke as proven in the sources I showed you. That he didn't score does not mean he choked based on his performance in that game. Did Totti choke? I wish I can share his Euro 2000 final highlight to show how terrific he was, but I go likely chop ban. You cannot take away or belittle his Confed final goal record with whataboutism just as you cannot take away saves from Courtois or decision making from De Bruyne per your own previous logic which I agree with by the way. Please give me a final where Haaland has not choked. |
raumdeuter:Your so-called facts have limited scope sprinkled with biases here and there as well. Finals are not the only big games in football. That right there is a fact. And refer to my previous comment. |
raumdeuter:Then all you would have said is that Henry tends to choke in most finals, not big games because there are way more big games than only finals. That said, Henry definitely didn't choke in Euro 2000 final and in the Confederations cup final. Haaland meanwhile has choked in all his finals played. |
raumdeuter:And I just broke it down to you in detail that that assertion is false when compared to Haaland at similar age. But you keep spewing unvalidated conclusions. Repeating it does not make you right. |
andrewbaba44:As in ehn, he argues with a tunnel vision. |
raumdeuter:The argument isn't about nominations, it's about big game choking. |
Tonight, the Eiffel Tower will be covered in a sea of blue and red! |
raumdeuter:There is a difference between Henry choking in most of the finals he played and saying he always choked in big games. There are many players that haven't played a WC or UCL final but that does not mean they didn't play in any big games. Henry had several magical big game performances across UCL and EPL but truly seemed to have a problem with scoring in finals, (at least though he scored in a Confed cup final). He was carried to the CL in Barca just like Haaland who also did not score in SF and final. Henry still had 6 UCL goals in that campaign and scored crucial goals and assists vs Bayern and Lyon in the QF and SR stages. If you had presented it as the above I wouldn't argue with you. |
raumdeuter:Henry lost the world best twice to Zidane and Ronaldinho. Without those 2 GOAT candidates, Henry would have won the best player multiple times. So your statement that he never got that close is clearly wrong. Haaland choked in the UCL final. If Ederson and Rodri had choked likewise, then UCL otilor for Erling. Henry did not have similar luxury despite at least recording a very good assist in the final with 10 men which bettered Haaland's performance vs Inter. And in the run up to the UCL final, Henry absolutely destroyed both Madrid and Juventus with a performance that also bettered Erling's vs Bayern. So the logical conclusion is clear. If you say Henry is a choker, then Haaland is a super choker. |
raumdeuter:A fuggy response. The devil is in the detail. Haaland has played Madrid 3 times anonymously. Meanwhile in his first 3 games vs Madrid, Henry scored 2 beautiful goals. Pls how is Henry a choker and Haaland isnt? Henry scored great goals against Juve, Bayern, Madrid, Atletico, Inter, Roma, Valencia, Manutd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Dortmund & Lyon. Only Barca (once) and AC Milan (didnt play them in his prime) are the big teams that escaped his scoring magic. So how is he a serial big game choker based on facts and not some generic biased perception that people had carried unobjectively since their undergraduate days? Hindsight is a great asset. Use it well. |
raumdeuter:Your agenda lacks substance. Whilst Zidane was the protagonist for France and rightly so, Henry's contributions to France's success between 1998 - 2003 were also crucial. That Zidane was France's best did not mean Henry was useless, in fact he was second best to Zizou in that era. In 2002, Henry played one game and 15 minutes of the second before his red card, so putting the entire 3-game collapse on him is ridiculous. My main point of argument in my previous post on Haaland, you conveniently ignored. That is what I want you to really respond to. |
Jodera:Nah, you are mixing it up. Benzema won the 2022 Ballon Dor for 21/22 season. Messi won 2023 Ballon dor for 22/23 season which is when WC held and Haaland also won UCL. Fifa best is what Messi won twice using the same WC. Haaland deserved the 2023 Fifa best. |
raumdeuter:Henry scored the crucial sublime only goal for France in the must win game vs Ireland to qualify for WC 2006, so your belittling of his contribution has no basis. Note that I didn't say Zidane had no impact unlike you that brings down one to elevate another. Since you say Haaland is just starting his career and it will be unfair to compare him with Henry's whole career and I agree with you on this. At 23, Henry also had already a string of big game performances. He had scored against Bayern, Juventus, Valencia in UCL and Portugal in Euro 2000 semi whilst putting in a very good showing vs Italy in the final. At 23, Henry was not known as a big game choker even if he failed to perform well in few big games. But Haaland is already garnering that reputation. The question is on what objective basis did you conclude that Henry was a choker while Haaland is not, at the current same age of 23? |
Jodera:Jodera, how will Haaland win Ballon D'or for a season where Messi won the World cup as its best player? What Haaland deserved to win last season was Fifa Best, not B'dor. |
popizaino:No he didn't, it was the right back that crossed to Delvecchio who scored. Totti gave the pre-assist which was like Messi's contribution to Di Maria's goal in WC 2022 final. |
raumdeuter:But it is a big game regardless. You insinuated Haaland is not a big game choker like Henry and I'm calling that out. In 3 games vs Madrid, Haaland is yet to score. Meanwhile Henry scored a sensational solo goal in his first game vs Madrid. Haaland is yet to score in a UCL final. So how is he a better big game player than Henry who at least assisted a goal in his first UCL final? |
raumdeuter:Totti was Uefa awarded MOTM. Post-match, Henry was voted MOTM. The point is how would you say he flopped when numerous sources cited his electric performance in that final. Did Totti score or assist in the same final? Yet he isn't a flop.
|
Android17:Ok we'll watch and see. |
Android17:Pls dont ever compare Messi to that tapin padder. Wasnt it Messi that assisted David Villa for his goal against Aluminium? Did you not see the several long shots Alumni had to parry from the GOAT? Messi scores more than Haaland. Can Haaland play like Messi? |
oliverano:No Henry was awarded MOTM after the match.
|
raumdeuter:Henry was MOTM vs Italy in Euro 2000 final. You said he flopped in that match. Make it make sense.
|
raumdeuter:Someone got the man off the match in an European cup final, you said he choke. This coming from same you that was hyping Boateng's Motm award in WC final. How can someone be rated best player on the pitch and you are saying was only terrorizing side netting, that's just your personal bias. Didnt it occur to you that Henry stretching the Italian defence time and time again contributed to their fatigue and subsequent capitulation towards the game end. And are finals the only big games in football? Henry has scored countless goals against top sides in UCL including multiple times against Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Roma, Valencia, Dortmund and in the EPL, Man Utd, Mourinho's Chelsea & Liverpool. Only top club he faced in his prime without scoring was Barca but he had a good assist in that final. So it was not like a completely useless Haaland when he doesn't score. We are talking about Haaland's performance today vs Madrid as a big game. Is the match a final? But you must agend. |
There are 2 angles to this issue that peeps are mixing up. Whether the child belongs to Mercy's husband or not is a private matter. It is criminal for third parties (bloggers and co) to defame or cause harm publicly to another person's reputation on a private family matter regardless of whether the allegations are true or not. This is why Mercy and Bassey are completely right in suing the busybloggies. The paternity of the child is a different issue that would be resolved in-house. Realistically, it will be hard for Pastor Blessed not to second-guess the child's paternity even if he has to show public solidarity with his wife. |
raumdeuter:Ok I hear you. Point is he cannot change a style that's made him successful. |
raumdeuter:Person wey use yansh almost collect Ballon dor, you now want him to change your style, ko le werk nau. |
raumdeuter:Alright, if that makes you sleep well. Point already made. |
raumdeuter:VVD singlehandedly dumped Bayern out of the UCL with a goal, a defensive masterclass and an assist. He then went on to lead his team to win the UCL. VVD was the best defender in Europe, in the world. Without VVD, Liverpool would not win the UCL. Boateng could not even make WC team defence of the tournament. Has he ever been the best defender in any European or international stage? Conclusion, Boateng has never reached VVD's elite heights. This is incontrovertible and any argument from you at this point will be purely academic. |
raumdeuter:His "immenseness" that day does not measure up to VVD's masterclass vs Bayern. That's the point. VVD has been head and shoulders above him. Not even sure Boateng has ever made Ballon D'or top twenty before when VVD made top two. He is simply not elite. |
raumdeuter:If Higuain scored that blatant 1 v 1, the dynamics would change and we wouldn't be talking about Boateng being MoM. UCL and WC knockout/final stages are as high profile as any can be. We've had defenders who have outstandingly bossed these stages. Boateng isnt one of them. |
raumdeuter:He had a good game which explains the commendation from Ferdinand and BBC, but that does not make his performance a standout memorable one. In your shots, Schweinsteigger and Neuer were also mentioned as potential Motms. The match was a cagey boring game with few quality attacking moves. Obviously a defender's delight and easy for a defender to shine. |
