Factually, there was a slight reduction in inflation when the MPR was increased to 22.75% about 2 weeks ago (as seen with commodity prices) and I guess this is what encouraged the committee to tighten the rates further.

I also used to think like you wrote up there up till 2022 that all inflation in Nigeria is cost push and always wondered why there was talk of further suffocation by mopping up money from the economy. But later from certain data I came across, I discovered the CBN had a more holistic overview of the direction of money flow in the country and that there was also a parallel overly liquid portion of the economy that was impacting inflation dominated by the biggest boys.

So there are two sides to the matter and it'll be interesting to see how the interplay will play out.

However what you should note is that those few Nigerians (politicians, high network business owners/Ceos, multinational directors & senior management, tech investors, etc) hold a significant portion of the total liquidity in the economy.

These interest rate measures will significantly impact this particular group and being a relatively financially aware segment, they tend to react rationally to the changes to maximize their value which is why Government securities are currently oversubscribed despite the apparent poverty in the land. The reaction of this group will have visible macroeconomic impact in the various markets.

Remember couple of years ago when Yahoo boys were the major drivers of sharp house rent increases due to excess cash available in their hands. Now imagine if some investment scheme was available to suck cash from them, then they wouldnt spend so lavishly and of course rental rates would be lower even though Yahoo boys only constitute a small segment of the totality of Nigerians.

The difference is that while most Yahoo boys rarely react rationally to stimulatory measures, investors and HNIs do.

It's a double edged sword. It also means that you stand to receive a higher interest rate gain from Banks and other financial institutions when you save or invest your money with them i.e from fixed deposits, Tbills, bonds etc. This encourages investment and savings which will help to mop up more money in circulation and reduce inflation.

Side note, May be it's just me but I just don't like back 3. You need to be very tactically sound to execute it at the highest level.

The formation usually morphed into a back 5 when defending meaning you'll lose midfield control then shapes into a proper 3-2-4-1 when attacking. if you lose possession while attacking with men forward, a pacy attacker will finish you off if given the right pass.

I think you need lots of experience at the highest level to get it right. It exist in grassroot level but very rarely used. If you're watching December league, it's difficult to spot this formation, NPL, very rare. It's mostly 4 at the back because it's the basics of football and easy to learn and execute.

I think it's not a formation for rookie managers. As such, If Kounde is injured, I hope not, I'll rather we continue with 4 at the back even if it means playing Faye or Inigo at left back with Cancelo RB or Fort at RB with Cancelo at LB, or Araujo at RB with Curbasi & Inigo in the center. Your proposals make sense. I wasnt really referring to the crude arrests in my comment but the raising of bdc seed capital, ban of access to Binance & other platforms where manipulations were going on, etc.

So a quick fix was needed which is the stringent regulation of Bdc activities to stabilise the rate first and weed out fx saboteurs. Subsequently Govt can focus on the C2P measures for long term improvement.

So far, the clampdown on the BDCs is working as the rate has gone back to around 1.5k/usd. If nothing was done that last week, we'd be talking of close to 3k/dollar by now at the rate it was plummeting and most of the drivers were artificial.

I have worked in a big 4 firm here and we were trained that you can be implicated on account of negligence where you dont exercise enough due care especially as it relates to spouses and close family members.

Employees involved in sensitive deals are trained to be aware of their environment where they discuss confidential info and if there's risk of breach, they are advised to postpone or use another location. So the excuse of the wife not knowing holds no water.

Also, the excuse that the man could have gotten the info from another source is laughable in court in light of overwhelming evidence of closeness to the wife involved in the deal.
