Klala man, I get you and I've also asked myself whether this is fair. But you need to understand that Ballon dor is not just about G/A.

During several of our matches this season, I honestly asked myself if Raphina was our best player but could never say so based on eye-test.

Yamal had no g/a vs Inter second leg. Raphina scored but Yamal was by far our most potent threat. Against Dortmund as well, Raphina pops up with 3 G/A unexpected, but it was Yamal that was devastating the opposition. He carries the team and enthralls fans not just in dribbling but also assist and passing quality. This is actually what being the best means.

This might be coming a bit late but bro, you captured my thoughts perfectly. At a point I was tempted to think maybe he's been compromised at the home front by his dad who is a Madrid and CR fan. I was that shocked.

The narrative of course was that Mendes pocketed him, but right from the first half, it seemed to me more like Yamal deliberately chose not to engage Mendes. There was an instance in the second half where he had acres of space unmarked 35 yards from center of goal and he chose to pass backwards. That was the point I gave up on expecting any impact from him.

Majority of the fans on this European football thread, built their fandom between 2004 and 2013, which coincided with the best of Barcelona, best of ManUtd and best of Chelsea, competing at the topmost level and consistently meeting each other at the biggest games in European football.

So the seed for the love-hate relationship were planted and nurtured during these wonderful times for the 3 clubs.

I also think why ManUtd and Chelsea fans would support Real Madrid over Barcelona, was because Real Madrid didn't compete during those budding period. They were not a threat to anyone, as they underwent one of their worst period.

So it was easy for these EPL fans to latch on to them as soon as they saw that Real Madrid was genuine competition for their nightmare FC Barcelona.

True. Let me add that during that period, Mourinho and Cristiano unified Chelsea and Man U fans to support Madrid vs Barca.

Messi hate, for the endless nightmare he caused them, further drove United fans against Barca.

Funny enough during Ronaldinho's reign at Barca circa 04 - 07, I saw many Madrid, Man U and Chelsea fans (in Uni then) that were sympathetic or even actually liked Barca.

Those 07-08 and 08-09 UCL semifinals really polarized several EPL fans against Barcelona.

Eric and FDJ have been the most improved this second half of the season under Flick.

I have a different theory about our goalie, yes I understand the clamour for him to make decisive saves in big games which he failed to do at the UCL semi final games and recently El Classico. However, I have also come to realize that the way we have played/set up this season is largely responsible for the lack of decisive/big saves in those games asides the goals conceded from corner kicks.

Barca plays an ultra highline defensive formation and that means that any team/player that beats the offside trap has a direct chance at goal/facing the goalie. If we think about it, our goalie was not protected by his back line for majority of the goals he conceded. Majority of the goals conceded are goals that no keeper can do anything about.

This is not an excuse to make Scezny look good or for Barca not to get a world class goalie but I am just saying that any goalie we get will most likely suffer same fate as long as we keep playing this ultra high line defense. Our team play has now evolved from not conceding goals to out scoring opponents.

Having said the above, I don’t think Barca would sign a goalie this summer. I think we will go into the next season with Stegen and Scezeny as our 1st and 2nd choice.
1. Flick doesn’t look like someone that would buy a goalie when he has two decent ball playing goalies at his disposal
2. Not sure we can afford to buy a LW,CF and Goalie in one transfer market due to lack of funds.

This right here echoes my position on the G.K as well.

Case in point, in the past one month, we have gifted different opponent strikers a whopping 4 hattricks against us. Ordinarily in a normal balanced set up these strikers wouldn't score that much, but our ultra high line makes it really easy for them once they break it, and in the same vein makes it difficult for any G.K to stop numerous 1 v 1s or square plays into the box 6.

Corrupt ref aside, this high line is lately giving free multiple goals to opponent strikers. The way we are leaking cheap goals isn't normal.

Perhaps the stress of the long season is affecting our defenders ability to maintain the tactical offside discipline.

I also think opponents are gradually figuring out how to break the high line. For now, our only escape route is to outscore the opposition but that is not sustainable.

Flick needs to find a way to add more steel to this highline system for next season so we don't get found out in high profile games.

This is just robbery by the ref. No penalty was given for Ferrans goal bound effort because it was deemed too close to toomuchmoney's hand. Why not apply the same logic to Fermin's case which was way more closer?
