The whole triumphant squad really needs to show gratitude to Emiliano/ the goalkeeper. That last minute save actually won them the trophy

That is the greatest save in WC history. Without that save Argentina cannot be champions.

It's good for Nairaland to be back though. Was on twitter throughout the blackout, I noticed many Twitterians have serious beef for Nairaland and hoped that the site crashed permanently.

Lesson for Seun to clamp down on abuse incidences and also diversify his hosting sources.

Phew! it's like Nairaland has become a subconscious part of my existence.

I wanted to vent here yesterday when we were struggling against a team that has not won a single match all season long, but as the site wasnt back up yet, it felt like my thoughts were being strangled inside.

I was on Twitter throughout the three-day blackout but just didn't feel the genuineness of the interactions there.

I then realized how much value I was getting from the community here. You guys rock!

Kounde is the weakest link and this puts pressure on Araujo. Why is Christensen not playing instead?

Sports / Re: Salah Over Osimhen: Amuneke Responds Strongly Amidst Barrage Of Criticisms by ThierryJay: 11:14am On Dec 13, 2023
I find this difficult to believe from Amunike. It looks like damage limitation.

Yes he didnt vote, but vocally choosing Salah already gives the impression that he's against Osihmen.

In the video, the three options including Osihmen were placed on screen when Amunike responded "Salah". Also, other people in the same bus as Amunike actually responded "Osihmen" when the question was put to them so it's difficult to believe that the interviewer excluded Osihmen from the options when engaging Amunike and included him when engaging the others.

So it's either the fault of CAF's video editor or Amunike is lying.

Anyway, his choice, his life.

It might be that your mum’s family have base in Lagos up to the third generation, or other parts of yorubaland.

And also the extreme western parts of Bini also share borders with Ondo state. Ask your mum if she is from Usen or any other extreme western Bini villages, these are the only parts that have these Yoruba ability. 90% of Binis don’t know speak Yoruba and don’t have any need for it.

My mum's extended family are from Benin City itself. They do not have any family base in Lagos or Yorubaland though one or two of her cousin sisters married from Yoruba, but the core of the family tree is purely Benin.

Let's even leave the speaking part. Why do so many people from Edo/Benin bear Yoruba names or surnames? I have seen this quite a lot and most of them have to voice out openly to clear misinterpretations that they are not Yoruba but from Edo State. I think this is an even stronger proof of preexisting ties.

Your thoughts?

Dont come and write something erroneous and say you don’t need to argue with me, this is my state, i will not allow it.

It's not about whether it's your state and what you allow or shouting aggressively. What is important is what is observable and factual.

And what is obvious is that there is some sort of close relationship between some parts of Edo State like Benin, Akoko-Edo etc and the Yoruba. I have come across so many Edo persons bearing Yoruba names and these are not only from the fringes with Ondo State. Surely this didn't just happen by coincidence and clearly lends some credence to the close relationship between Edo State and the Yoruba.

My mum is from Edo State by the way. Benin to be precise. All my mum's family side living in Benin are able to speak Yoruba fluently.

So explain.

Aston Villa may yet gas out cos of stiff competition but Girona has way too large points cushion from 5th place club to throw away just like that.

Meanwhile Barca seriously need some consistency in our play and not these yo-yo performances of winning today losing next game. We currently lack ruthlessness just like 2002/2003 Barca.

Kounde is just a terrible defender, these days he's always got a calamitous error in him almost every darn game.

Our attacking play is too inefficient. We had over 30 shots and scored just 2 goals. That embarrassing free header missed by Lewa for the equalizer was so shocking. He's lost the mojo and should just leave.

Next year UCL getting ready for Girona and Aston Villa. Sometimes these things are just written in the stars. The stars just align and decide to pick one low profile club that suddenly goes on a logic defying winning run. It's always a great plot.

Business / Re: How Procter & Gamble Was Crippled By Her Staff by ThierryJay: 2:19pm On Dec 10, 2023
P&G is a very big and strong brand. It's one of the global brands that you'd be proud to have any form of association with. So their exit is painful and a really big loss to 9ja.

Prior to now, I knew they had been struggling with low sales of their high-quality but expensive products which led to the shut down of their Agbara plant and retrenchment of hundreds of staff back in 2018.

What I didnt know before that this piece exposed was the impact of internal saboteurs. Though, all big manufacturing corporates always have cases of internal sabotage but apparently in P&G's case it was significant.

So P&G had, until this administration, been teetering on the brink of collapse but the forex hike back in July killed them off once and for all.

The outlook doesnt look good. The FG needs to get a hold of the fx fiasco cos it's killing many corporates.

Another striker coming would make it three, And either him or Roque would suffer well in terms of game time
But you might be indeed right about Roque, though we have high hopes for him, the pressure on the kid's shoulder has gradually increased because of lewa's foolishness in front of goal, he was meant to be an understudy so he'll gain experience but when that agbaya is constantly fluffing his lines what do we expect the kid to pick? I just hope Roque shines almost everytime he plays so lewa'll use that competition to step up

Aren't we being too hard on Baba Lewy like this? Dont you think his struggles are simply down to his age at 35yrs? With a first touch as heavy as ten hippos, it will be hard for him to improve against increasingly agile La liga defenders.

Make Barca reap some handsome profits and send him to Saudi jejely to play retirement football where even if you spend 2 minutes to control ball, the defenders still never catch up with you.

It's ironic that Lewandowski's messianic complex towards Barca never materialized which he had thought would bring him the Ballon D'or. Harry Kane is now making us to understand the context of his Bayern exploits better.

How much do you think is enough to erect just one manufacturing plant? If any of those calling themselves billionaires in Nigeria should have just one of the P&G plants, he'd go bankrupt in a matter of months. They're worth billions of dollars. P&G is one of the topmost multinationals with branches in several countries of the world. Go to Oluyole Estate in Ibadan and see things.

When the raw materials sourced locally aren't there and are more expensive where available, what would they do? Those farmers supplying them the lemon used in producing vicks lemon plus according to my cousin who's one of their ogas, farmers were complaining that the chemical used in keeping the lemon green and control pests were too expensive cos of high fx rates. This complaint was constantly coming from farmers cos P&G always rejected their poor yields and the lemon was still very expensive despite this complaint. Now I believe what he said with this news. If P&G is getting their lemon cheaper and fresher from South Africa, why won't they go there? If they should embark on this course, many wouid lose their jobs and many local farmers would pack up and also send many out of jobs on their farmland

You have a good point, but apart from the fx spike impact, P&G had been having market share problems for some years now and they downsized significantly back in 2017 as a result.

Due to the higher quality of their products and resulting higher pricing, many consumers drifted to their cheaper competitors e.g Ariel vs Waw, Zip, Viva; Huggies vs molfix and other cheaper pampas; Gillette vs other cheaper blades etc.

So P&G's problem is two-pronged; a longstanding dwindling sales issue and the fx devaluation impact was the death knell. So unfortunate for Nigeria to lose such a strong brand.

It seems the homecare business in Nigeria thrives with mid-range average quality products that are affordably priced. Unilever has a similar problem with P&G in this area.

It's a silicate mineral called Quartz which is one of the sheet silicate rocks. You will notice the lines in the picture that look like compacted layers of flat transparent crystals. That's vintage Quartz. Not so much value I'm afraid.

Nowadays they use it in chandeliers to enhance light refraction and in some house decor like fancy clocks.

GZI is significantly bigger in capacity than the other one you mentioned. GZI produces almost all the cans for the canned drinks produced by NBC Coca Cola, 7up bottling company (Pepsi), Guinness & Nigerian breweries ( malt and canned beers). You are looking at billions of cans every year.

They all rate in your dreams ? If by experts you're talking about EPL journalists or merchant why not. Otherwise you're completely delusional. When you ask that question to Gio Van Bronckorst, Sylvinho, Messi etc what is the answer ? The guy who scored more, with better goals per game, with a lot of clutch goals, who shined in many teams, benched the other one then threw him on the side and played entertaining football is the best one. Simple.

Shey na only EPL pundits dey vote World best or Ballon Dor or even operate renowned sports tabloid? How are you even thinking

You are just farting your subjective opinion all over this thread. Will Messi or other Barca players give you an answer based on Henry's time before joining Barca? How would you even know their response? Through yet more subjective drivel??

You think football started in 2006? when some of us have been following the sport avidly more than a decade earlier?

Your claim about Etoo is ten kobo a dime which anyone can make. But the harder part is to infuse sense into it which is sadly lacking in your submissions. Imagine calling Eto'o Barca's main man in 2006 when it was obviously Dinho. By 2007 Messi had become Barca's main man.

Henry is more decorated than Eto'o both collectively and individually. He scored more beautiful goals than Eto and was rated higher than Eto'o in ALL global sports tabloid lists of the best ever. So, sorry an uninformed fan's opinion don't count.

It's obviously a waste of precious time continuing this discourse with you. You can continue to bray afterwards but I will no longer respond.

You know what ? Keep your opinion if you like but even in dreams Henry can't match Eto'o technically and his solo goal is clear, he didn't push anybody and dribbled at least 3 players to score against Madrid. He did it week after week consistently. It isn't my fault if you were just watching Henry who was more a sprinter than a technical beast. To be the number 9 of Barcelona back then you had to be fast and technical, nobody matched Eto'o back then, and surely not Henry. Go and youtube Barcelona's Eto'o and you'll find the classicos. Take your time to watch it especially Etoo's game cos you seem completely lost.
Eto'o better anyday that's the reason he scored in 2006 vs Arsenal + MVP and in 2009 vs United Henry always being on the pitch. Eto'o benched Henry too so no debate.

You've got no point man. Grasping at straws with all talks of dreams and subjective what have you. Your defence lacks a substantive punch.

Anyway, the mainstream football pundits and experts all rate Henry way above Etoo in the greatest players of all times lists with objective metrics. So I'll stick with that rather than with some lame incomplete assertions that lack a verifiable basis. It doesnt matter how many times or how long you repeat your exaggerated opinion of Eto'o, it will still remain an inaccurate one.

What the hell shocked shocked ? Henry better technically than Samuel Eto'o ? Eto'os class is Drogba, Torres, Raùl, Van Nistelrooy ? I want you to remove it very fast because you can put Lewandowski and Haaland on the same class than those players but Eto'o was just on R9 and Romario level in terms of style of play. You can't compare his dribbling abilities to Henry because Henry needed space while Eto'o could kill u in very tight spaces. They were similar in terms of pace but when it came to dribbling, link up and combinations, Eto'o was his dad don't be ridiculous there is a reason Henry didn't fit with Barça : he wasn't on the technical level of Eto'o, Messi and Iniesta. And yes Eto'o scored a more beautiful solo goal than the one Henry banged against Madrid.

And I notice except 1997/98 with Monaco, Henry never reached 7 CL goals, his max was 5 and I don't need to remind you the UCL changed in 2003/04, before that Season it wasn't the same format because there was 2 group stages.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siVz6jHnxUg?feature=shared

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXD66Cua280?feature=shared

It's simple. Lewandowski better than Eto'o ? What a joke. And the ballon d'or Suarez wasn't a striker, he was a midfielder. The reality is when it comes to FC Barcelona, Eto'o is the best 9 ever, Ronaldo Romario and Luis Suarez are below. There isn't even a debate about it.

The only joke here is your skewed exagerrated opinions of an excellent striker who's no more than that.

You like arguing blindly. I said Henry also scored 7 ucl goals in 01/02 and 02/03 and instead of you to verify you are still twisting facts on its head. There is a reason Henry is among top 10 UCL goalscorers of all time and Etoo isnt.

You call a solo goal where Etoo dribbled 2 and half people better than one where Henry dribbled 4 Madrid defenders to score?

And who told you Henry doesnt dribble in tight spaces? His solo goal of season contender against liverpool defence in 04 was with almost the entire Liverpool team behind him when he started the move.

Henry in Barca was already past his prime. Still in 08/09 he gelled well with the team and had individual success. His legacy however had already been sealed before he came to Barca.

You cant even defend several other points I raised previously and the ones you cherry picked came with a weak comeback.

Henry above Eto anyday any time and for majority of knowledgeable football enthusiasts.
