Two metres along the row and 2 metres between rows. Germination takes 6 to 7 days. On the 10th day, spray insecticide and apply fertilizer first dose. 20 days after planting weed the farm and spray insecticide again 35 days perform second weeding and apply second dose fertilizer this time urea. The first dose was N. P. K. 15. 15. 15. Then spray again with insecticide. By this time the melon has started flowering the vines covering the soil and the farm is beautiful like flower garden. 55 days after planting spray insecticide for the last time and expect your harvest on 75th day after planting. MATURITY is between 75 to 80 days . Pick the ripe melons and load inside motor direct to the market. HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY RIPE ONES? This is very technical follow carefully. IF the nearest leaf tendril to the cord of the fruit is dry then it is ripe. IF you sound it by thumbing and it gives dom dom sound it is ripe if it sound s k aka ka it is not ripe if it sounds pup u pu it is rotten inside and it is not yet manifest outside. For mass harvesting of large farm pick a sample of small size and test if it is ripe by cutting into two. If it is ripe then assume that all the melons of that size and bigger ones are all ripe. To sell it size by size pick the big ones exactly 70 days after planting they must all be ripe. Leave a gap of 8 days and harvest the medium size. Another 5 days gap harvest all the remaining ones. VARIETIES There are many varieties more than 200 varieties . The ones best adapted to Nigeria are as follows In the south SUGAR BABY AND CAOLAK. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MjblKGpK9xI/WOo5u6eTCaI/AAAAAAAABA0/VW_ucPY0AK8/s640/20170409142622.jpg The people of Jerusalem took palm branches and went out to meet the Son of God, praising Him and shouting, 'Hosanna!' Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus’ triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem. We find Jesus riding a borrowed donkey, escorted by unarmed disciples. His purpose is to demonstrate the kingdom of God and to show peace. Here are five things you should know about this significant biblical event: 1.) Jesus brought peace and salvation. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all recount the Palm Sunday story that took place shortly before Jesus was arrested, crucified on the cross and eventually rose from the dead. In chapter 19 of the Gospel of Luke, it is written: “[Jesus] sent two of his disciples, saying to them, ‘Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, Why are you untying it? say, ‘The Lord needs it." The story continues, as Luke 19: 35-38 tells us: “They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'” 2.) The Holy Day gets its name from scripture. In John 12:13, it is written: “They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!'” The Israelites believed Jesus was going to save them, as the people had awaited the arrival of a special king for hundreds of years. They had waited for a messiah to be an earthly military and political leader; instead, Jesus came as a heavenly spiritual leader and died for humanity’s sins. 3.) Jesus fulfilled an Old Testament prophecy. The minor prophet Zechariah foretold it hundreds of years earlier. “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey,” according to Zechariah 9:9. John 12:15 notes of the event: “At first [these] disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about Him and that these things had been done to him.” 4.) Jesus’ arrival on a donkey is very significant. This animal appears multiple times in the Bible. “There have been other donkeys with important roles mentioned in scripture,” Reverend Tim McConnell — assistant pastor of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina — wrote in Asheville, North Carolina’s Citizen-Times newspaper on Friday. “We remember Balaam's donkey that spoke and warned Balaam of danger. Of course, we know that it was God speaking through the donkey. We know about the donkey that carried Mary and the unborn Christ to Bethlehem, and later the donkey once again carried the family to Egypt to escape King Herod.” Rev. McConnell noted, “We find Jesus riding a borrowed donkey, escorted by unarmed disciples. His purpose is to demonstrate the kingdom of God and to show peace.” 5.) Jesus was not the first to ride through the crowds in parade fashion. An Old Testament story tells of a king triumphantly entering a town. Before his enthronement as king of Israel, Solomon rode into Gihon (a spring in the original site of Jerusalem) on a mule — with people praising him as he arrived.“ Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the sacred tent and anointed Solomon. Then the sounded the trumpet and all the people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!” And all the people went up after him, playing the pipes and rejoicing greatly, so that the ground shook with the sound,” 1 Kings 1:39-40 says. You would nееd tо employ thе ѕеrvісеѕ of рrоfеѕѕіоnаlѕ to іnѕtаll аnd operate thе vаrіоuѕ mасhіnеrу. CHALLENGES ASSOCIATED WITH THE BUSINESS • It іѕ capital-intensive. A раlm trее requires аt least fіvе уеаrѕ bеfоrе it matures аnd ѕtаrtѕ рrоduсіng. After it mаturеѕ іt рrоduсеѕ palm fruіtѕ уеаrlу. • Adequate storage fасіlіtіеѕ nееd to be рrоvіdеd fоr thе palm oil. Thіѕ саn be ѕоmеtіmеѕ сhаllеngіng еѕресіаllу when уоu hаvе lіmіtеd fundѕ. Thеrе аrе mаnу luсrаtіvе аgrісulturаl buѕіnеѕѕеѕ to invest in, раlm oil processing and рrоduсtіоn sits аt the tор for рrоfіtаbіlіtу. Yоu can gеt іnvоlvеd nо matter the lеvеl of capital at уоur disposal. There is always something уоu саn mаkе out оf іt. www.nairaland.com/attachments/5030210_20170320191423_jpegfc3d38587598638fd4ab1da2a3852ff3 Ila is the favorite Yoruba expression for Okra, and Asepo, this means 'Cooking together'. Ila alasepo formula allows you to cook blended okra soup. In keeping prep of ila alasepo, it is almost always dished up with stew. The truth is that the certain element, which normally switches into the stew, however now it switches into our soup and helps it be a 'less' soup for the favorite Yoruba folk food. Ila alasepo is also known as 'something you make when you yourself have no money'. The important factor of cooking a great okro soup is its level of viscosity (meaning how much it draws), that’s the reason why you add akaun. Among other Nigerian dishes, the nutrition scale of ila alasepo is very rich. Okra is very rich in protein, Fibre, Folate, Vitamins k/c, and also Magnesium. You can turn this soup into an extremely rich soup by using a huge variety of proteins. Ingredients required: *. 2 cubs of Precooked meat *. 1 piece of red bell pepper *. 2 pieces of Smoked fish *. 2 cups of chopped okro *. 1 cup of Fresh or dried prawns *. 3 cups of water or beef stock *. ½ teaspoon of Baking soda or cooking potash (Kaun) *. 1 cube of maggi (2 cubes if you use water) *. 1 teaspoon of good pepper powder *. 3 tablespoon of blended crayfish *. ¼ cup of palm oil *. Salt according to your taste Directions for cooking: 1. Put a pot on the medium heat, then pour in your meat stock (or water) and cover it. Then bring it to a boil. 2. Add your cooking potash if you use it. You should reduce heat to the medium level at this moment. Then put prepared crayfish powder, meat, maggi palm oil, fish, prawns, and also pepper into the pot. Mix. Leave it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes 3. Stir, taste it and add some salt and pepper if it’s necessary. 4. Add some chopped okra and also minced tatashe. Then stir everything well. Taste it and add some salt and pepper if it’s necessary. Simmer the mix for more 3-5 minutes. 5. Note: If you use baking soda, add it in 2 minutes before your preparation ends. 6. You can serve it with fufu, garri, Semolina or pounded yam. 7. Now you know how to prepare ila alasepo. Enjoy your meal! The 8th Nigerian Senate has been replete with political game-plays orchestrated by major actors popularly called ‘cabal.’ Below are 7 senators who constitute the ‘cabal’ in Nigerian Senate, as compiled by Nigerian Bulletin. 1. Senate President, Bukola Saraki – Bukola Saraki needs no introduction. He is the President of Nigeria’s 8th Assembly. The Kwara-born lawmaker is a strong man in both in home politics, and on the national level. Saraki is believed to be the Most powerful senate president that Nigeria has till date – he wields so much influence that any opposition attempt against him will fail. 2. Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu – Ike Ekweremadu is the Deputy Senate President. Though a PDP lawmaker, he pitches tent with the strong-men in the house – pushing various agenda. Anytime Ekweremadu assumes position as the Senate president in Saraki’s absence, the house always boils, with so many news items for journalists. He presided over the house that sent Customs Boss, Hameed Ali out of Red Chambers for non-appearance in uniform. He also presided over the sitting that failed to confirm Ibrahim Magu as substantive EFCC Chairman. 3. Dino Melaye – Coupled with the earlier mentioned duo, Dino Melaye constitute one of the cabal in the Red Chambers. The Kogi-West lawmaker is controversial for many reasons. He’s recently involved in a messy certificate scandal as alleged by Sahara Reporters that he didn’t graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Melaye is Senate President’s, Saraki’s godson. Melaye in 2016 declared that Saraki, despite the allegations of corruption hanging on him, must remain in office for four years. He had also drummed support for his becoming the Senate President, and faulted the APC leaders for attacking Saraki. This ‘godson’ truism also played out in his recent scandal, and how he was cleared alongside Saraki by the Senate Probe committee. 4. Ahmed Lawan – Ahmed Lawan is the new Majority Leader in Nigerian Senate. He replaced Ali Ndume with 39 of the party’s 63 senators approval. Ndume’s removal from the Senate was believed to have been facilitated by some ‘forces’ in the parliament ‘APC Caucus’ Ndume was removed for insisting that the Senate did not follow the proper procedure before declaring that it had rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. 5. Godswill Akpabio – Akpabio is the Minority Leader of Nigeria’s Senate. In November 2016, he led a staged-walk out of PDP Senators from the chamber, following uproar that trailed the defection of Yele Omogunwa to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He raised a point of order saying there was no division in the PDP, leading to a shouting match between the opposition senators and their APC colleagues who stood to welcome Mr. Omogunwa to their fold. 6. Olusola Adeyeye – Adeyeye is an APC Senator from Osun state. Adeyeye is one of Nigeria’s hilarious senators. In 2016, during the debate on the 2016 Budget, Adeyeye made the call for government to tax ‘sin behaviors’ if the country must make progress. Also on March 15, 2017, Senator Adeyeye, caused drama in the house when he withdrew his support for motion mandating the Customs boss Hammed Ali to appear before the Senate in his uniform. 7. Senator Olujimi – A female lawmaker, Senator Olujimi was among the Senators that stood grounds on Customs CG, Hammed Ali's refusal to wear uniform to the chamber. She also lashed out at the President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping mum on the face-off between the Senate and the legislative arm. Mrs Riley who works as a catering assistant at Nottingham High School, approached the school’s senior string teacher Derek Williams who set Matthew up with an old violin. Instinctively, Matthew placed his fingers in the correct place on the instrument and a star was born. Mr Williams said that Matthew had ‘music coming out of his pores’. He said the boy had ‘an inherent natural ability the like of which I have not seen for 30 years’. Mrs Riley, who is divorced from Matthew’s father Cordova Smith and has since remarried, said that she had no idea where Matthew gets his musical ability from, although his father does play the saxophone. According to information obtained from our reporter, the lad led a 75-strong orchestra through a faultless rendition of the overture to Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. Daily Mail further informs that he conducted the nine-minute piece entirely from memory and wasn't fazed by the 1,300 crowd at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham. Proud mum, Beverlyn Riley, 40 was all smiles as she watched her son. His genius was unlocked four years ago when he saw two violinists performing at the Pentecostal church he attends with his mother and told her that he wanted to be ‘just like them’. She added: ‘I’m so proud of what Matthew has done.’ Source: http://www.thistrend.com.ng/2017/04/meet-11-year-old-boy-who-has-broken.html?m=1 lalasticlala, Mynd44, Seun

German Engineering Federation has today ranked Nigeria as the fourth country with the most sales of soft drinks globally. The fact was revealed by Mrs Martina Claus, Head of Market Development, while speaking at the ongoing Third International Trade Exhibition on Agrofood, Plastics, Printing and Packaging in Lagos, reports NAN. She said that the statistics on soft drinks sales were sourced from the Euromonitor International, a global market intelligence publisher. The market developer said the statistics showed that 38.68 million litres of soft drinks were sold in Nigeria in 2016. “This puts Nigeria behind only the United States (114.75), China (88.18) and Mexico (45.30) in the top markets ranking. “Also, 1.98 million litres of alcohol was sold in Nigeria in 2016, while the total volume of milk products sold was 147 tons. “Nigeria’s fast-growing population brings with it a continuing demand for soft drinks, especially as the climate is quite hot. “Urbanisation also drives demand for ready to drink soft drinks amongst busy, on-the-go consumers. “Lack of potable water is largely responsible for the consumption of 36.08 million litres of bottle water in 2016,’’ Claus explained. According to her, the Nigerian food and beverage market remains viable for investment in spite of the challenges of high energy cost and volatile raw material prices.
