The Nigerian Navy will start recruiting able bodied men and women into its organization. The application starts on 1st July, 2017 and ends 30th July, 2017. Interested applicants should read the following guidelines below to know the requirements to register for the Nigerian navy recruitment exercise for 2017.

According to Premiums Times, the naval chief of staff, Ibok Ete Ibas, said the 2017 recruitment exercise is free of charge for applicants, and that interested candidates are to apply once. He added that multiple online application will lead to disqualification of candidate.

His words: ”On submission, applicants are to print out the completed application form which must include; declaration and certification by parents/guardian, Local government area certificate form, Police certification form and guarantor form.‘’


The recruitment exercise will commence with an aptitude test and screening of certificates of candidates at designated centres for various States across the country on October 7.

“You are advised to carefully read the instruction page on the website or call support line 08159999011 from 9am to 4pm on working days."

Candidates are further advised in their own interest not to give any form of gratification or inducement to any person or group of persons to assist them on the recruitment exercise,” he added.

Some of the basic requirements for the 2017 exercise includes

Applicants Must:
1. Possess a minimum of five credits in not more than 2 sittings in WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB (English and Mathematics inclusive)

2. Candidates must be between 18-22 years old for O/level applicants while 24-26 are acceptable limits for those with ND, NCE, Nurses and Motor Transport Department, MTD respectively.

3. Applicants must be single and of Nigerian origin by birth.

4. Required height of 1.7m for male and 1.67m for female applicants.

Please note that the Nigerian Navy on Wednesday, June 14, warned prospective applicants seeking employment on the activities of fraudsters currently operating fake online recruitment sites.

The navy said it will make a public announcement whenever its recruitment process starts. Navy Capt. Suleiman Dahun, the director of information, in a statement issued in Abuja, said for the avoidance of doubt, the portal for registration of candidates for the 2017 Nigerian Navy recruitment exercise has not been opened.

It been a while since I pen recipes, so I decided to share this Simple recipe, with the help of 9jafoodie.

Plantain is lower in calories and carbohydrate however it’s significantly higher in sugar than cassava. If you are counting calories or on a low carb diet, plantain fufu is a much better option however if you are sugar sensitive, stick with cassava based fufu.

Ingredients
*. 1 large unripe plantain

*. 2/3 cup water

Directions for Cooking
*. Peel and cut the plantain into small pieces

*.Combine plantain and water in a blender. puree to a smooth paste.

*. Pour the plantain puree into a pot, set on high heat

*. Stir the mixture with a spatula until the puree begin to cuddle. Reduce the heat to medium and continue to stir until you have a stretchy dough

*. Serve the fufu and set aside to cool (this will harden the fufu a little more)

Enjoy with your choice of soup.

Note: If you will prefer a darker color similar to Amala, simply freeze the fresh plantain before use.

Solution to stop food waste in Nigeria is a recurring task for all as about 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted annually, which is the amount accounted for 33 percent of the food produced in the world.

Ironically, about 795 million people are hungry in the world. This lead to the question of why waste food when that which you waste is that which some can kill for? This figure only reflects the situation across all the countries of the world.

In Nigeria, it has been estimated that about 12 million people are hungry. This you will agree with me is an underestimation of the number of hungry people in Nigeria. Looking at all this, coupled with the environmental impact of food wastage such as pollution, it is in our own interest and that of the people around especially the hungry ones to stop food wastage.

CAUSES OF FOOD WASTAGE
The primary reason while food waste in Nigeria is due to the bad nature of our storage and transport facilities. This usually leads to food getting spoilt before reaching its destination in the case of perishable food and food not been able to be saved longer because of the bad storage habit, excessive cooking and buying more than enough.

All this are evils that can be fought so as to stop 33 percent of food produced from wasting.

HOW TO STOP FOOD WASTAGE IN NIGERIA
The best way to stop food from wasting in Nigeria is to provide and educate the farmers with the appropriate skills and tools needed to preserve and store food as this will lead to more food being saved during the harvest season thus, avoiding the excessive wastage that occur during this season.

To further make this effective, good transport facility should be provided so as to give farmers the assurance that they can produce more since their goods can reach their target market without getting spoilt.

It is important on the part of the buyers to plan themselves, know the quantity of food they need for use as a particular period and them buy that amount of food. This will even save the buyer some money while allowing others have access to the food at a reasonable price as opposed to the inflated price due to shortage.

While all talk and shout about recycling, nobody talks about food recycling and reuse in Nigeria and this method can go a long way in stopping food from wasting. Some people only eat meal ones and dispose the remnant.


Why not recycle it into another food, warm it or better still, give it out to the needy. I bet you, a thousand and one persons out there are ever ready to eat what you just dump in the waste bin. An example of food reuse/recycle is fruit remnant been transformed into juice and preserved in fridge for future use. Ingredients can be added to a food to turn it taste into something enticing. In worse case, the food can be used as manure to grow food in your garden.

The government should provide storage facilities such as silos, this will enable food been saved for later use.

In conclusion, if there’s one thing I have always and will always fight against, it is the “not in my backyard attitude”. People don’t see problems as problems simply because it not affecting them and that is a wrong attitude. If we can all join hands together, hunger can be eradicated in Nigeria if not totally, to a larger extent!

Chinaza Onwuasoanya has been the Special Armed Robbery Squad(SARS) of the Anambra State Police Command, for allegedly selling 20 stolen babies.

Onwuasoanya was impregnated by her boyfriend in Lagos and returned to Anambra State in October, 2013, to have the baby but was too ashamed to go back home to her parents.

After giving birth to a baby girl, a friend introduced her to 45-year-old Goodness, who runs an orphanage, which the police alleged was a cover for a baby-trafficking operation.

Onwuasoanya handed over the baby girl in exchange for the sum of N150,000. The money she made opened her eyes to the possibility of earning more from the same source.

Without batting an eyelid, she moved into child-trafficking. Recounting her journey into child-trafficking, Onwuasoanya told Sunday Sun: “I got into child trafficking two years ago.

I have sold 20 children to Madam Goodness who operates the orphanage. She paid me between N150,000 and N200,000 for each baby I sold to her. I was kidnapping children coming back from school or getting them in the streets.

But I was arrested on May 1, 2017, when I stole a set of twins at an estate in Onitsha.” Onwuasoanya hails from Ebenebe, Awka North LGA of Anambra State.

She also confessed to being a member of the gang of robbers who killed two policemen, Inspector Shuaibu Usman and Sergeant Julius Matthew, of Police Mobile Force 29 in February, 2017 at Nkpor fly-over, Onitsha and took their AK-47 rifles, which were later used to commit robberies.

She also assisted the SARS operatives to arrest three members of the gang; Ifeanyi Onwukwe a.k.a Nger, 22; Chidubem Osita a.k.a Kabaka, 23, and Chijioke Obi a.k.a Abababa, 23, while the other six members escaped.She disclosed that she was always given her own share of the money made during robbery operations, saying that she got between N50,000 and N80,000.

“I have regretted what I did. My parents are alive. It was my friend who introduced to child trafficking and which led me to armed robbery today,”

Onwuasoanya added.

Therefore, I decided to gather list of Ingredient required and Preparation procedure; then I have this Recipe pen down. It's just a simple direction, just read on.

REQUIREMENTS
- 225g beans

- 225g corn (picked from the cob)

- 1 onion (sliced)

- 3 fresh tomatoes (sliced)

- 2 tablespoons ground crayfish

- 2 Sawa (smoked dry fish)

- 1 litre water

- 3 tablespoons palm-oil

- Salt to taste.


DIRECTIONS FOR COOKING
1. Pick over the beans and sweet corn, throwing out any stones or pieces of grit.

2. Wash and cook the corn in water till soft, add the beans and salt to taste.

3. Cook until soft and pulpy approximately 40 minutes adding more water if necessary.

5. Add the sliced peppers, onions and tomatoes, stirring frequently to avoid burning.


6. Remove skin and bones from sawa and flake into small pieces.

7. Add to the beans together with the ground crayfish and palm oil. Check seasoning and stir well. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve with fried pepper sauce.
