PoliticsLagos-ota-abeokuta Road: Ogun Ready To Take Over Project, Lauds FG by Thonyb(op): 6:34am On Oct 18, 2023
The Ogun State government on Tuesday declared its readiness to take over the construction of the LagosOta-Abeokuta road from the Federal Government and transform it into a world-class carriageway.

The road which runs through Lagos and Ogun states, has been in a deplorable condition for years, resulting in untold hardship for motorists, especially citizens of Ogun State.

The Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration has been providing palliatives on the road since 2019.

Efforts by Prince Abiodun, in conjunction with his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu were rebuffed by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the unrelenting efforts of Governor Abiodun finally yielded fruit on Monday when the federal government announced its approval for the Ogun State Government to embark on the reconstruction of the dilapidated road and toll it.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, spoke on the new federal government position after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Aso Villa, Abuja on Monday.

“On permission to build federal roads, when such requests are made, we give approval within 24 hours but then there are conditions to be met – they must have to use the Federal Ministry of Works standard designs,” Umahi said.

Appreciating the gesture of the federal government while commending Governor Abiodun for his resilience in pursuit of the approval, Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, declared that the state is ready to take on the project and end the many years of suffering of her people.

Akinsanya, who recalled that the struggle to get the approval from the federal government started immediately Governor Abiodun was sworn in in 2019, said the decision to allow Ogun take over the project is the best thing that can happen to the people of the state and other users of the road.

Saying the Governor never stopped decrying the decrepit state of the road, the Commissioner said: “Severally, Governor Abiodun and Governor Jide Sanwoolu of Lagos State wrote the presidency and the federal works ministry seeking the handover of among other roads, the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta road, Ikorodu-Ogijo-Sagamu road and Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin road.

“But the response then was that all the roads were under contracts at the time, so nothing happened. But our governor, determined to see and end to the hardship being experienced by our people, did not give up until he was able to seal the deal on Sunday.”

Explaining that the length of the road is roughly 70km with Ogun having about 61km and Lagos State, 9km, Akinsanya said even while waiting for the approval, the state administration kept doing all it can to make the road manageable for motorists.

“Ogun State has been rehabilitating the road since 2019. We kept doing palliative works because the governor is always concerned about the sufferings being experienced by the people. He remained concerned about the deplorable state of the road till he got what he wanted from the federal government.

“With the transfer done now, we are happy and ready to immediately take over the project and turn around the fortunes of the road. It’s what we’ve been looking for, praying for since we came on board. We will take over immediately, subject to paper works between us and the federal ministry,” he stated further.

Akinsanya added that the state is going to work with the federal ministry of works to meet the criteria of the federal government.

“We are working on how to fund the project. Aside from the road, we will have trailer parks and other infrastructure in place. It will be in partnership with some other stakeholders. It’s a PPP project and work will start as soon as possible

“The governor has done very well in securing this approval despite the delay. We will still work with Lagos State on a lot of modalities. This is why we are the Gateway.

“The work will be accelerated so that delivery will be swift. We will give the best standard in the shortest time possible. We appreciate the minister for supporting our quest all along. Governor Abiodun is still working hard for more of this,” he added.

PoliticsSenate In Emergency Executive Session As Chief Whip, Ndume Stages Walkout by Thonyb(op): 2:22pm On Oct 17, 2023
The crisis in the Nation’s red chamber worsened on Tuesday, with the Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume angrily staging a walkout.

To save the situation from escalating, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, suddenly called for an emergency closed session.

Ndume had raised a point of order, citing order 54 of the Senate Rule Book to draw the attention of the Senate President to his handling of affairs in the chambers which were against the rules.

He said: “Mr. President there are some things we do in this chamber that are against the rules. Sir, nobody is too big to learn.”

Akpabio had hardly allowed Ndume to end his speech, when he ruled him out of order.

Visibly enraged, Ndume then stormed out of the chamber and went straight to his office.

The Chief Whip shortly after, received a call from a colleague to return to the chamber for an executive session.

The executive session was ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

PoliticsKogi Guber: Yahaya Bello Seeking Third Term Using APC Candidate – Dino Melaye by Thonyb(op): 8:34am On Oct 17, 2023
Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Kogi State, has accused the state governor, Yahaya Bello of seeking a third term.

Melaye alleged that Bello was seeking a third term hiding under the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Ahmed Ododo.

Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Melaye said Bello was using Ododo to achieve his term because he can’t be on the ballot.

He insisted that Ododo would be a figurehead if elected because the outgoing governor will still be calling the shots.

“Don’t be deceived that Yahaya Bello is not on the ballot. Ododo is physically on the ballot but Yahaya Bello is the one seeking a third term through a proxy.

“I will not want this debate to be about Yahaya Bello, rather I would like to market my political party and market what we have for Kogi State,” Melaye said.

PoliticsLeadership One Of Nigeria’s Problems – Wike by Thonyb(op): 8:16am On Oct 14, 2023
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has identified leadership as one of the problems facing Nigeria.

Wike disclosed this while noting that a law establishing a civil service commission for the FCT had been enacted but remained unimplemented.

The minister said he brought the law to Tinubu’s attention, and he approved its initiation.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Wike said Tinubu’s political will and capacity made him agree to work in the current administration.

He said: “One of the problems in this country is leadership, so many people don’t want to take action. There is no action that you take that everybody will be happy.

“In 2018, the National Assembly passed a bill into law which was assented to by the former Vice-President Osinbajo when he was acting as the president. [The law says] FCT should have a civil service commission. Everybody has been running away.

“Nobody wants to [implement it]. Nobody has the political will to implement it. Everybody is saying ‘it will reduce my power’. No. It is about the institution.

“The minister will come and go, so also the head of service will come and go. If the National Assembly passes a bill into law which is assented to by Mr President, what is wrong in implementing that law?”

PoliticsPresidency Holding Nnamdi Kanu, Not Supreme Court – IPOB Lawyer, Ejimakor by Thonyb(op): 3:03pm On Oct 13, 2023
Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Friday identified those behind the continued incarceration of the agitator.

Ejimakor claimed that the Presidency is holding the agitator and not the Supreme Court.

He disclosed this while stressing that the Federal Government cannot continue to detain Kanu with the release of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

Posting on X, Ejimakor alleged that Yoruba leaders facilitated Igboho’s release.

According to Ejimakor: “The persisting incarceration of MAZI NNAMDI KANU has become more unsustainable with the release of SUNDAY IGBOHO, especially as it was done with the support of Yoruba leaders & Tinubu (@officialABAT). To be sure, it’s the Presidency that is holding #MNK, not the Supreme Court.”

Recently, Igboho regained freedom after two years in Beniese prison after he fled Nigeria due to a declaration by the Department of State Service, DSS.

At about the same time Igboho was arrested, Kanu was also picked up in Kenya and subjected to extraordinary rendition.

Kanu has been detained by the DSS while he continued his trial since returning to Nigeria.

PoliticsVacate Guber Seat For Ombugado, He Won – PDP, Senator Jibrin Tells Gov Sule by Thonyb(op): 2:34pm On Oct 13, 2023
A Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain, Senator Walid Jibrin has expressed concerns over the political situation in Nasarawa State and called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to immediately hand over the mantle of leadership to David Ombugadu.

The former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees while noting that Islam does not approve of robbery, injustice or cheating; said it was shocking that Governor Sule has resorted to religion as a tool against his opponent, notwithstanding the glaring failure at the elections.

Speaking on behalf of the PDP at a press conference in Abuja, Senator Jibrin tasked both Muslims and Christians in the state to give their total support to Dr David Ombugadu as the Governor of Nasarawa State.

He said, ” I am a devout Muslim and elder of over 70 years, I am shocked by Sule’s attempt to blame his defeat on religion rather than the overwhelming facts before God and all Nigerians, which showed that he didn’t win the last governorship election in Nasarawa State and should therefore honourably vacate the seat for the winner Dr David Ombugadu of the PDP”.

Recalling incidents ahead of the 2023 electioneering campaign, Senator Jibrin said it was very clear that Nasarawa people were no longer with the incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule of the APC.

He said, ”From the 1st APC campaign outing in Toto Local Government, the Governor was greeted by street protests from women and youths. They told him clearly that they were tired of his lack of performance and empty promises.

”In fact, Toto had been without electricity for almost ten years of APC governorship in our state. Governor Sule was out of touch with the needs and aspirations of the people of Nasarawa State.

”The Presidential election on February 25 was the foretaste of things to come. In Nasarawa State, the ruling party, the APC came last!

”In the governorship election, Governor Sule suffered a crippling defeat as voters in his Local Government of Akwanga overwhelmingly rejected him and voted massively for the PDP governorship candidate Dr. David Ombugadu.

”In Sule’s senatorial zone, he suffered crushing defeat after four years in office.

”The situation in the Southern Zone was even worse, the Governor was defeated flatly in Lafia the state capital and in Doma Local Govt where His Deputy Dr Akabe hails from!

”Obi Local Government also rejected him and voted massively for Dr David Ombugadu of the PDP! These are the most populous LGAs in the Southern zone!

”In the West Senatorial zone, only Keffi gave Sule any real votes. He was defeated in Kokona where the state Chairman of APC hails from and in Karu which has the highest numbers of registered voters in our state.

”Recall that by Sunday morning, Dr Ombugadu from all the uploads on the INEC IREV platform, had already won the governorship election by a comfortable margin.

”This is because by Sunday 19th March, 99.67 percent of all polling unit results had been uploaded, including the results of all polling units in Gayam and Ciroma Wards in Lafia town, where INEC later shamelessly manipulated by adding magic votes at the Local Government collation centre just to declare the loser as the winner to the shock of all Nigerians!

”We were all shocked by what happened because up to this day, the results from polling units from Nasarawa state on the INEC IREV platform show that Engr. Sule lost to Dr Ombugadu of the PDP.”

PoliticsIfeanyi Ubah's Defection: APC Senators Become 60 by Thonyb(op): 6:44am On Oct 13, 2023
The number of the All Progressives Congress, APC Senators in the National Assembly on Thursday increased to 60 following the defection of Ifeanyi Ubah, lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District, who was elected on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, YPP to the ruling party.

Ubah’s defection to APC on the floor of the Red Chamber reduced the number of lawmakers elected on the platforms of minority parties from 50 to 49.

In his letter of defection read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio before the day’s plenary was suspended in honour of Jelani Danbuga from Sokoto State, a member of the House of Representatives, who died on Wednesday, Ubah cited irreconcilable differences between him and leadership of YPP for his exist from the party.

He explained that his choice of APC as his new political platform, was borne out of the commitment to good governance, economic development and social progress which the ruling party has demonstrated.

The letter reads: “I am willing to formally notify and inform the Distinguished Senate President and our colleagues of inconsiderable differences between me and the leadership of my party (YPP).

“I therefore resolve to move from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the most important party in Africa, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As a dedicated politician and representative of my people, this has become exigent at this period of my political career and public service.

“After thorough evaluation of the political landscape in Nigeria particularly, the good works being done by the All Progressives Congress since the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the president of Nigeria, I have come to realization and conclusion that the All Progressives Congress is better suited to champion the ideals and principles that can move Nigeria forward.

“The APC’s commitment to good governance, economic development and social progress resonate deeply to my own conviction and the alignment of each member on key national issues for achieving the promises of any decent politician and particularly the promises that I made to my constituents to better the lot of all of them.

“I am particularly impressed by the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu and I have found it necessary to join the trend so as to integrate my senatorial district into the laudable mission of my President.”

PoliticsBayelsa Guber Poll: APC Stakeholders Tackle Sylva For Naming Self Campaign DG by Thonyb(op): 8:59am On Oct 12, 2023
Ahead of the November 11 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, some stakeholders in the State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have mocked the party’s governorship standard-bearer, Chief Timipre Sylva, for naming himself the Director General of the Campaign Council.

Reacting to the constitution and inauguration of the campaign council, the stakeholders and chieftains of the party under the auspices of Bayelsa APC Integrity Group, said the development has vindicated the group which had accused the party Sylva of running a one-man show in the party.

The reaction by the group is contained in a statement signed and sent to newsmen, on Thursday by its coordinator, Chief Ebipadeowei Oyinkuro.

The group recalled that only a few years ago, APC was not only in the heart and mouth of the people of Bayelsa State but was also at the commanding height of goodwill in the State, regretting that weeks to the forthcoming election, all that had evaporated.

The statement read: “The party not only appears to be going into battle with its flanks wide open, but it is deep in tatters and also showing signs that it requires oxygen.

“Well-regarded and influential members of the party in the state who could rightly be described as the first and best 11 have all turned their backs against Chief Sylva.

“Many other party stalwarts who never set out from the onset to be dissidents are also openly pitching their tent with the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen. Douye Diri.

“They are angry over the high-handedness of Chief Sylva and for conducting himself as if the APC in the state is his personal estate.

“His governorship ambition comes across to them like an entitled birthright. Nothing better tells the story other than the fact that Chief Sylva is both a Gubernatorial Candidate and Chairman of his own campaign.

“His cousin, Chief Dennis Otiotio, who is the state Chairman of the Party is Alternate-Chairman, while the running mate, Joshua Macaiver is the co-chairman. The majority of the rest of the campaign council are from Sylva’s circle.”

CrimeAlleged Genital Disappearance: Police Arraign Man For Raising False Alarm by Thonyb(op): 4:41pm On Oct 10, 2023
The Police on Tuesday, arraigned a 20-year-old man, Onoja Kingsley, in a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raising false claims that his genitals have “disappeared”.

Kingsley of no fixed address is charged with joint act, causing grievous hurt, attempted culpable homicide, theft and giving fake information to members of the public.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against him by the police.

The prosecuting counsel, E.A Inegbenoise, told the court that the case was reported by one Ndifreke Ebong of Gaduwa Estate, Abuja, in Oct. 7.

Inegbenoise said the complainant in the company of some of his church members, were sharing flyers in preparation for its Sunday service within the FCT.

He said the complainant innocently handed a copy of the flyer to the defendant with other members of his gang, now at large, around AP Filling Station at about 6:30 pm.

According to him, the offences he is charged with contravened the provision of sections 80, 248, 229, 287 and 178 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor also objected to the bail of the defendant stating that the defendant has no traceable address.

He added that granting him bail would affect further police investigation and the arrest of his other members who were still at large.

But the magistrate, Abba Bello, said “bail is at the discretion of the court and shall be exercised judiciously.”

The Magistrate admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with a surety in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He ordered that the surety addresses be verified by both the prosecutor and court’s registrar before he should be released.

PoliticsBayelsa Guber: Court Sacks APC Candidate, Sylva by Thonyb(op): 7:32am On Oct 10, 2023
The Federal High Court in Abuja has disqualified the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, from contesting the November 11 election in Bayelsa State.

The ruling was delivered on Monday by Justice Donatus Okorowo.

Okorowo ruled that Sylva, having been sworn in twice and ruled for five years as governor of the state, would breach the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to contest again.

The judge stated that Sylva was not qualified to run in the forthcoming November poll because he would have spent more than eight years in office as governor of the state if he wins and is sworn in.

While citing the case of Marwa vs Nyako at the Supreme Court, Okorowo maintained that the drafters of the country’s constitution stated that nobody should be voted for as governor more than two times and that the parties to the suit agreed that Sylva was voted into office two times.

According to the judge, the Supreme Court has also ruled in the case of Marwa vs Nyako that nobody can expand the constitution or its scope.

It held that if Sylva was allowed to contest the next election, it meant a person could contest as many times as he wanted.

PoliticsBayelsa Guber: Those Plotting My Suspension Failed, I Won't Leave APC – Daumiebi by Thonyb(op): 12:45pm On Oct 07, 2023
A guber aspirant in the last primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, Festus Daumiebi, has described plots by some politicians in his party to suspend him for no reason as an exercise in futility, noting that he remains a member of the party.

.ng, gathered that Daumiebi is being accused of secretly aligning with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the November 11 gubernatorial election in the state.

But in a Press Statement sent to .ng, on Saturday, the party chieftain said an intelligence report before him shows some members of his party, the APC in Abuja are orchestrating to induce his Southern Ijaw ward 12 executives to announce his illegal suspension from the party.

The party man noted that his initial thoughts were not to dignify them with a response but was moved to clear the air and set the record straight so unsuspecting members of the public could be aware.

The statement read in parts, “I, Bayelsa State Governorship Aspirant of the APC, 2023 and also the APC Senatorial Candidate for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the 2019 General Elections hereby make this press release.

”Intelligence report before me shows that some members of my party, the APC are in Abuja orchestrating to induce my Southern Ijaw ward 12 executives to announce my illegal suspension from the All Progressives Congress.

”The mischief makers and their co-conspirators after several failed fishing expeditions have resorted to concocting all sorts of fallacious, malicious, misleading and smear campaigns against me in order to find justification for their planned satanic suspension.

”My initial thought was not to dignify them with a response but on a second consideration, I am moved to make this statement on account of unsuspecting members of the public and to set the records straight.

”For the avoidance of doubt, I state categorically that the allegations which they are raising against me in certain quarters and planning to make public are not only spurious and fictitious, they are the product of the figment of the imagination of haters. I hereby challenge them to the strictest proof.

”It is on record that I am a founding and committed member of the APC who has worked assiduously for the growth of the Party in Bayelsa State and beyond.

”I have not in private or in the open communicated to anyone my intention to leave our great Party, the All Progressives Congress for any other party, however, described. I have also not conducted myself in breach of the constitution of the party.

”I therefore have no intentions whatsoever of leaving the party I have worked so hard to contribute to its pillars in Bayelsa State.

”Let it be known that I cannot also be forced out of the party by any individual or group of persons no matter how highly placed as the APC is a party founded on the principle of the rule of law and democratic ethos.

”The Bayelsa State APC has already suffered so many divisions. No well-meaning member of the party in the state should take any step that will further cause disaffection in the state chapter, especially as we draw closer to the November 11 gubernatorial elections.

”I am, therefore, advising all those behind the cheap blackmail and demonic agenda to desist forthwith as the plot will not only end up in futility but will be a chase after the wind.

”This is also to serve as notice to the national executive of the party that I, Barr. Festus Daumiebi Sunday and my teaming support base across the Bayelsa State are committed to the APC and we shall remain resolute to the ideals of the party”, he said.

CrimeEx-Convict Bags 12 Years Jail Term For $1.4 Million Fraud by Thonyb(op): 6:59am On Oct 07, 2023
The Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has convicted and sentenced one Kolawole Erinle, Managing Director of Rinde-Remdex Nigeria Limited, to 12 years imprisonment for defrauding Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, (KCUMB), United States, of about $1.4 million.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Head, Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale.

The statement revealed that Erinle was convicted by Justice R.A Oshodi on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct and obtaining money under false pretence.

According to the statement, two of the charges read, “Kolawole Adedayo Erinle and Edward Dada (still at large), sometime in 2019, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, conspired to falsely represent yourselves as J.E. Dunn, a local construction company in America, with intent to gain monetary advantage in the sum of $1,410,000 (One Million Four-Hundred and Ten Thousand United States Dollars) by creating a fake domain name jedunn.org and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act No 14, 2006.

“Kolawole Adedayo Erinle, Rinde-Remdex Nigeria Limited and Edward Dada (still at large) on or about the 3rd day of May 2019, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, retain the control of $1,410,000 (One Million Four-Hundred and Ten Thousand United States Dollars) in your Access Bank account, which sum you knew to be proceeds of various internet and cybercrime.”

In the course of the trial, prosecution counsel, T.J. Banjo, presented evidence to prove that Erinle was an ex-convict in the US for bank fraud.

Erinle earlier pleaded “not guilty” to the charges, although he admitted that he was indeed an ex-convict in the US, and spent 23 months in prison.

He also expressed a readiness to pay restitution to his victim, saying, “I am sorry.”

Delivering judgment, Justice Oshodi declared the defendant and his company guilty as charged, and also held that the prosecution effectively proved the case against them beyond every reasonable doubt.

Justice Oshodi held that, as argued by the prosecution, Erinle, “spoofed the email address of the financial controller of J.E. Dunn, by faking the domain name of jedunn.com to jedunn.org“, an act which was “premeditated”, so that “when KCUMB was about to pay J.E. Dunn, you provided Bank of America details in the name of E. Dada Autos, and after the wire transfer of $1,412,509.40 into it, in March 2019, you caused the money to be transferred in tranches of $850,000 and $460,000 into the second convict’s account, which you also control”.

The trial judge further hels: “The evidence shows that you transferred the proceeds of your crime to your nominees, including your mother, and your wife, and also acquired vehicles and other properties captured in exhibit P to P1.

“I have considered the prosecution’s submissions that you have a prior conviction for bank fraud in the United States of America, US.

“I have considered the fact that notwithstanding your prison term, which you have confirmed to me as sentencing for 23 months, you have not changed.”

Thereafter, Justice Oshodi sentenced Erinle to five years on count two, and 12 years on count three.

The sentences are to run concurrently from February 10, 2023, when he was remanded by the court.

The company, Rinde-Remdex Nigeria Limited, was fined N50 million, and also ordered to be wound up by the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, with the proceeds forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The convicts were also ordered to make restitution to the victim.

The judge further ordered that all the properties and vehicles recovered from them by the EFCC be sold and applied as restitution to the victim through the FBI.

The funds standing to his credit as recovered by the EFCC, and the company, the court added, “shall be applied as restitution for the victim by the FBI; this is without prejudice for the prosecution and the victim to secure a full restitution”.

The tribunal which delivered the Judgement at about 1:20 pm, dismissed Ahaiwe’s case for lack of merit.

Ahaiwe had challenged the declaration of Otti as the duly elected governor by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In his prayers through his Lawyer, Paul Ananaba, SAN, Ahaiwe had urged the court to remove Otti and declare him the winner.

The PDP candidate said the electoral victory of Otti did not confirm with Section 77 of the Electoral Act, among other prayers.

However, the tribunal threw away all the requests, for lacking in merit.

.ng reports that the victory threw thousands of LP supporters who came from different parts of the State into spontaneous jubilation, as they danced in joy and celebration outside the Federal High Court complex.

PoliticsTinubu’s Lawyer Opens Up On Wrong Gender In CSU Certificate, Other Discrepancies by Thonyb(op): 12:15pm On Oct 06, 2023
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyer, Wole Afolabi, blamed a mixup at Chicago State University for his client’s certificate indicating female.

Afolabi made the explanation when he appeared on Channels Television on Friday morning.

“The transcript that was provided by Southwest College indicated F. It was clear. All of the other particulars did match information of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February election, during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, highlighted reasons he insisted that Tinubu’s Chicago State University, CSU, certificate was forged.

“Now, the registrar was interviewed on why the discrepancies. He said the person applying for the school ticked the box of a male not a female and when the admission letter was issued it was issued to Mr Tinubu,” Afolabi added.

“When the question was put to Dr West Brown, he said it is not unusual for universities to mix up. He (West Brown) has been to several universities. It is possible.”

On the discrepancies in the signatures on the certificate, Afolabi said that certificates were not issued at the time of graduation until one applied for them.

He added that the person who issued the certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC might not have been in the university in 1979.

CrimeMan Stabs Brothel Manager In Lagos by Thonyb(op): 4:40am On Oct 06, 2023
An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday granted bail in the sum of N200,000 to a messenger who allegedly stabbed a brothel manager.

The 24-year-old messenger, Huzairu Shehu, who resides in the Gengere area of Mile 12 Ketu, Lagos State, is charged with causing grievous harm.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, also ordered that the defendant produce two sureties who must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court.

She adjourned the matter until Octobe 18 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Donjiur Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 26 at Gengere.

He said that the defendant attacked the manager, Mr Abdulfatai Olasukanmi, after he reprimanded him for sleeping in one of the rooms in the brothel and occasionally collecting money from customers without remitting same.

“He converts some of the money to his own use, and whenever the complainant (manager) asked him about it, he could not give any satisfactory account of it.

“This act usually causes misunderstandings between the complainant and the owner of the brothel,” Perezi told the court.

He alleged that, on Sept. 26, the manager discovered that the defendant stole an air conditioner compressor belonging to the brothel and valued at N10,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendant sold the compressor.

“With this development, the complainant was not happy, and a misunderstanding ensued, which made them start fighting.

“In the process, the defendant used a knife to stab the complainant on the upper abdomen.

“Blood started gushing out, and he was immediately rushed to a hospital, while the defendant ran away but was later caught and beaten by a mob.

“The complainant had to undergo a blood transfusion and is currently on drips, while the defendant was taken to the Isheri Health Centre for treatment after he was beaten by the mob,” the prosecutor said.

The alleged offence contravenes Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The section states that anyone who unlawfully causes grievous harm to another is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

Applauding the minister for placing premium on women inclusion, the First Lady said the efforts by the FCT administration to also develop agriculture, one of the priority areas for the Renewed Hope Initiative, was a cheering development with a lot of prospects to be exploited.

“Just this morning, I saw a newsflash that the FCT Minister is collaborating with Israel on agriculture and I said I would love to discuss agriculture with the honorable minister.

“Although women and children is what we do, but it is not just women. We went as far as Belarus to study what they are doing. They have so much to offer in different areas and they are willing to assist, going as far as offering us scholarships at the Renewed Hope Initiative.

“What you have done today has really brought a lot of ease to our work because once you have the directorate there, we would know how to reach them. That is why I think that God has a hand in what we are doing. You have really lightened my burden.”

Senator Tinubu stressed that a broad based implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of “must not only include strategic development of the agricultural sector, but must also recognize the role of women and create an atmosphere that empowers them.”

BusinessYou Better Pray For Refineries Not To Work – Tinubu’s Appointee Tells Nigerians by Thonyb(op): 10:06am On Oct 03, 2023
Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele has told Nigerians to pray that refineries in the country do no work.

According to him, a litre of petrol in Nigeria could be the most expensive in the world.

Oyedele spoke at The Platform’s Independence Anniversary event, held in Lagos on Monday.

He said inefficiencies in the management of the refineries might bring about the worst situation should Nigerian refineries produce petroleum.

“Nigerians would say if only our refineries were working, then we’ll be fine. Nothing can be farther from the truth than that.

“In fact, Nigerians should come together and say please make sure that our refineries don’t work. We should sell them.

“If Nigerian refineries process crude oil, unless we deal with our inefficiency, one litre of petrol will be the most expensive in the world.

“You would have succeeded in replacing the subsidy at the pump with subsidy of the refineries,” he added.

“The National Assembly said we have spent over N10tn maintaining our refineries even when they have not produced anything,” he said.

CrimeNAF Airstrikes Neutralise Terrorists In Lake Chad by Thonyb(op): 7:49am On Oct 03, 2023
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday said it neutralized several Boko Haram/Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in air strikes in the Tumbuns on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno.

The Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Gabkwet said the air strikes obliterated the terrorists’ hideouts, destroyed their structures and strategic logistics’ base in the region.

He said that Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu were struck between Sept. 27 and Sept. 30 after confirmation of the terrorists’ activities which constituted a threat to military formations and law-abiding Nigerians residing within the locations.

At Tumbun Fulani, terrorists were observed loading jerricans in two guntrucks concealed under shrubs.

Subsequently, NAF aircraft were scrambled to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base.

According to him, after the strike, Battle Damage Assessment revealed several terrorists were neutralised and the guntrucks destroyed.

He said that similar strikes were also undertaken at Tumbun Shitu after structures believed to be terrorists’ hideout were observed tucked under thick foliage.

NAF spokesman said that three gun trucks with terrorists were sighted moving into the location, adding that the need to strike the location thus became imperative.

He said the aftermath of the air strike revealed that several terrorists were neutralised and the trucks destroyed.

“The determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and indeed other parts of Nigeria remains on course.

“Operational gains by the AFN are indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians,” he said.
